| I'm not much of a shounen-action guy, but here's an anime that fits all the stereotypes of a typical anime but excels at delivering entertainment without breaking apart at any seam. The protagonist, Muto Kazuki, is your typical full-of-confidence all-powerful never-give-up hero who, despite all the negative connotations associated with this type of personality, will put a smile on your face as he carries half the show on his back and shows off his mundane yet kick-ass abilities with his Sunlight Heart. The other half of this show is carried by the main antagonist Papillon, whose highly-gay antics are some of the best laughs of the show (in the OP, he cracks me up every time as he opens his wings in a FABULOUS way). You will find a bit of everything in its fabulous story: action, morality, adventure, and romance. The opening theme is very epic and its worth listening to every time you start an episode; ending theme one is a great uplifting song; ending theme two is hilarious in its own gay way! So if you think shounen is all Naruto and Bleach, don't - take a look at Busou Renkin to see what good anime is suppose to be.

| Well you could say Buso Renkin has some similarities to Fullmetal Alchemist. Such as the Alchemy and Homunculus. Except they use a different way of alchemy. They use this weird hexagon device called Arms Alchemy(Kagugane) . And this is the part i said, this is stupid and has nothing to do with alchemy. They didn't even explain anything about homunculus in Buso Renkin. That was so weird. All they mentioned was that humans or someone had this device to implant something on a living object. If that was connected to its brain or core it would then become a homunculus. Okay so basically if people didn't create them their would be no homunculus. Well that's how I recieved the info from watching this. I really think that they shouldn't relate this to alchemy at all. And basically fighting normal homunculus we get to fight off with perfect human homuncules that is capable of using alchemy. They went straight to the main thing i guess. Then after that we get to fight Victor. Black Kagugane. Ooh how evil. Hey let's just kill someone that we gave life to. Then we got the hero saying he wants to stop this and find a different solution. Yeah your typical naive justice person. I didn't find the story really that great. I will say this though the beginning of the series is bad. But if you keep watching it to the end it gets better.
Now what made this even worse was their corny lines. I fight for justice yes of course the naive hero. And then we got the somewhat hotheaded lonely heroine. And some pervert who wears a perverted outfit with a butterfly mask. Well that's one special characteristic about Buso Renkin i suppose. What's weird is that the Kagugane takes form into a weapon that fits best for the user. I may have gotten this wrong. It really doesn't matter what kagugane you get, because it'll just result with the same weapon. Well not really alchemy, but alchemy in Buso Renkin style i suppose. Oh well what's good about Buso Renkin is the fighting animation. Own unique style except some fighting battles just get pathetic because of the users alchemy power.
Overall Buso Renkin gets shaky at the beginning, but still isn't completely stable at the end. However the fights get you entertained at least since they couldn't really tell the story that well or make it go smoothly. So basically this is your typical shounen type anime. If you love action, then yeah this is your anime.

| This is based on the first episode of BR. I am aware of the lack of forgiveness towards this anime as I could not bring myself to follow up even to the next episode, pardon me for that.
Animation is average, not fantastic, but not too bad either. Sound, pretty similar to FMA and maybe chrno crusade.
Enjoyment? Hmm let's just say I was too busy getting annoyed with the lack of creativity to enjoy this very much. Reason being the obvious replication of bleach. Male lead meets female lead. Female lead is some sort of "fighter" at battle. Female lead gives male lead powers. Male lead joins female lead in the fight. Isn't that EXACTLY THE SAME AS BLEACH? Not to mention the use of "alchemy" did give me hopes about an anime as good as FMA. I simply can't help but compare this. Is it just me, or is the logo-style similar to FMA too? Not even close people.
Characters are alright, the male lead looks decently attractive, but the female lead? Scar on the face? Is Watsuki Nobuhiro trying to bring some "rurouni kenshin mojo" into this too? I expected more substance from the famous RK writer and unfortunately was very VERY disappointed. I'll try to give this another go in a few days or so, it does look like it has potential. Hopefully I would be proven wrong. As for other hopeful watchers out there, beware of the first episode. Oh and for those of you who are LOOKING for something like bleach, fma or even naruto, you could give this a go!
------------------------------------------------
After watching the next few episodes, I realise that there was more to it then just killing monsters and random grabbing ideas from other animes. It was ep15 BEFORE I realised I was hooked. Villians do things for a reason, they're not just "psychotic" like how some writers like to use when they've run out of ideas. There is some creativity in this deceptively typical anime. Kazuki's kakugane (arms alchemy, like their ability) changes form and SPOILER (though if you watch the first episode you'd already know this) his live depends on it, literally. The kakugane serves as his life support. Which is kind of cool in another sense about the fact that he can't exactly die with a "fatal injury". In addition, he grows stronger by his increased will that he gets from the support his friends give him. How neat is that? If you don't get it, just watch it already.
Like the other reviewers, humour is a plus here to make BR more enjoyable. I shalln't elaborate on what the other reviewers already have. Besides humour, there are sweet and touching moments too. So it isn't just a bish-bash-laugh-kill-slash show either. On the other hand, character development seems to be lacking, sometimes it seems like the supporting cast have more “background” than the main characters.
I'm glad I gave it another go in the end. Though like I said, you'd have to put up with the blatant similarities in the first episode and appreciate the rest of it later (:

| OVERVIEW
Busou Renkin is an enjoyable anime as long as you take into account that it's a typical B grade action show aimed at kids in their early teens. There is humor, horror, action, and even a little emotion. It has pretty much everything except nudity and gore, which is fine. While the overall plot seems bland and typical, there are times when the writing is very unique and unpredictable.
COMPARISONS
While your first comparison is likely to be Full Metal Alchemist because it's about people fighting homunculi with alchemy, Busou Renkin is nothing like FMA in any other way. This is your typical high school students fighting supernatural monsters. It is closer related to Bleach than anything. I would almost call this show a 2nd rate Bleach but it does have its moments that make it shine as something unique and original here and there.
STORY STRUCTURE
While this show isn't episodic and follows one large story arc, it does feel a bit repetitive near the beginning. Fight a monster, kill it, fight a monster, kill it. But the show gets better. After the first evil alchemist is defeated, it opens up into a larger story arc. If you can put up with the first 6 or so episodes you will be rewarded. The show is especially good towards the middle.
CHARACTERS
While the main hero, Kazuki, and the main villain, Victor, are very typical, they serve their purpose. The more interesting characters are the other characters. Tokiko, the female lead, is cold, cute, and serious. She's a little badass in a school girl outfit, a scar across her face, and 4 metal death scythe limbs that make her look like a spider in battle. Chono, the magnificently fruity villain in a weird fetish outfit and a butterfly mask, is just hilarious. He adds a lot to the story as an unconventional character that you despise yet love for his comic relief. He's also a pretty complex character that is evil, weird, goofy, sad, friendly, funny and creepy all at the same time. He's mostly fruity, though. There are several other minor characters that are interesting without the need for character building, such as Moon Face, Captain Bravo, and Gota.
ENJOYMENT
It didn't always have that addictive quality I look for in an anime, but there were a few times where I was hooked and couldn't stop watching for 4-5 episode stretches. Eventually the excitement would die down, though. The most tedious part is near the beginning. The first episode is okay, but during the second and third I started to wonder if the anime was going to go anywhere. I was pleased that I continued with it.
ENDING
The ending has a satisfactory resolution that ties up everything nicely. You won't be left hanging. The last couple episodes are bit unconventional which was a surprise considering how conventional the plot was throughout. I was happy I watched the whole show in the end.
SUMMATION
This anime won't make your top 10 list but you won't be disappointed you started it either. It's enjoyable but nothing brilliant. For a B grade anime I give it a B+. I especially recommend this to fans of Bleach .

| Busou Renkin is your typical shounen anime with a very predictable plotline. However, it has a strong dose of humor and some really good character interactions. Its action is mediocre, with some fights engaging while others being lackluster at best. Although this anime is primarily watched for the action, its humor really shines and makes the anime entertaining for me. Furthermore, Busou Renkin is not an anime that takes itself seriously. Much of the series is silly and ridiculous. People will wear tightsuits with butterfly wings attached to them or run around in a large silver jacket.
Its characters are given ridiculous names and outfits like Doctor Butterfly or Captain Bravo. Yet, these characters are so funny since they act so seriously while in these ridiculous outfits in public. Moreover, the main character, Mutou Kazuki, is not your typical brooding and angsty teenager. In fact, he gets over his problems very quickly, and that is very refreshing to see in a shounen anime. Busou Renkin’s humor is also very random. A character may be serious for one second and then completely over-the-top the next. This makes the characters very unpredictable and interesting to watch.

| Deliciously generic, Busou Renkin doesn't pull any special moves but it will still astound you.
First off, Busou Renkin IS your generic action show, right down from the goody-goody teenage main character, down to the almighty villain who can only die via the strength and determination of the main character. The whole process of start to finish is done in a manner where it doesn't excel at anything while keeping the momentum of an entertaining and interesting storyline and characters.
But how? Let's take a look back at Flame of Recca, that was pure generic anime there but it was entertaining. Busou Renkin is not any different, it isn't anythign new or special but it still entertains with its action and characters. The thing with Busou Renkin is that the story goes in a direction where you expect it to go, evil critics will hate it, personally it was fine, as i said, Busou Renkin doesn't pull anything special, everythign you expect from an action show is here.
Certainly, Busou Renkin could be better, more episodes to flesh out the characters, more time with the action sequences for a few fights would be great and maybe try to break away form the generic angle a bit to make this show more interesting for viewers. In fact, it could be said that Busuou Renkin's strengths of being an action show, is it's weakpoint. It's just an action show, like in anyway, a B-movie action film is just another action film.
And with that, Busou Renkin is enetertaining but very generic.
*damn, isn't there another word to use apart from generic lol*
Overall: 7.5/10
Grade: B

| Viewed up to the ep 26 (the end)
Animation : neat drawing, bright colors, up to the standards of a 2006 anime. good image transition, animation is relatevely fluid although some progress could be made. Easy to watch. graphics comparable to bleach
Sound : pretty entertaining, can help maintain some drama. a fair support to the anime.
Story : altough there are some predictable elements, all is not linear. this story is pretty interesting and original in its kind. there are some elements taken from bleach and FMA, but not up to be a wannabe. The frontier between the good and bad is moving back and forth. that's refreshing from an eternal combat of good against evil
Character : strong willed main character is single minded, which is OK with me but may displease others. It is true we lack background information, but this saves us the potentially boring historical flashbacks that ruin other anime's pace.
Side characters could be deeper dug into, but this is already fair for an anime of this kind.
Value : an overall quality anime that deserves its place in my library and deserves to be rewatched once at least
Enjoyment : Very fair. evey coming up episode was like a piece of good news to me. entertaining, no brainer and sometimes addicting. its 26 eps did not let me down.
As a conclusion, this anime deserves a healthy spot in my top 50 and is a contender for the top 20. for those who like action and shounen style anime, if you apprecited Bleach, then you may give this one a fair try.
fairly recommanded.

| Action packed, funny and very emotional.
Who will like this anime? I think people who watch(ed): bleach, naruto, hxh, rurouni kenshin, yu yu hakusho etc will like this anime. It's a slow starter, but one should give it a serious chance, or you're really missing something :D
Personally I see Busou Renkin as the best anime out of all I've seen, based upon watching the whole show.
Pros:
Character development - this is the most important thing about this anime
The plot (it really kicks in around episode 14)
The animation and the fights
The ending
The music - both the opening theme and the "soundtrack"
The mix of comedy, action, drama and romance
Cons:
Way too short. hopefully they'll make a second season, but I doubt it.
10/10 I think is a fair score. Definitely a must watch! :)

| This show is trying capitalize at the success of shounen titles like Bleach and Naruto, but it forgot just a few things;
-Originality; this show is a complete mesh of several shounen titles, forexample they stole Homuculus and alchemy concept from FMA and managed to kill anything cool about them, w/ their cheesy characters, that will put u to sleep quickly!
Characters; Cannot emphasize enough about how terrible character originality is; forexample main character we know nothing about him besides that all he wants is justice, justice this justice that... Why justice?? Everything about them is cookie cutter...
Animation; its very Bleachish and not that bad.
Story; Bleak, open-ended, half of the time u won't know whats goin on, it'll be, they usually start eps at the school or dorm and crack a few jokes, and then b4 u know it the main character is in a fight for life against a humuculus for no apparent reason...
Enjoyment; I would rather watch any shounen but this...

| This is an entertaining anime, and therefore worth watching, so I don't mind suggesting it to you.
The battle scenes are well presented for the most part, though the amount of cheesy dialogue is overwhelming and unfortunately does not only occur in the battles.
The story is original in the sense that everything in it was originally in Bleach, FMA, Naruto, and pretty much any other action-oriented anime that you can name.
The plagiarism does have its positive side, as one of my favorite characters from Bleach, Inoue Orihime, is cloned in Buso Renkin. Unfortunately she's the main character's sister in this anime, so there's no possibility of a romance, but she's not as busty here, so it's ok.
To wit, Buso Renkin is a decent and entertaining anime, but far from a masterpiece.

| I have divided feelings about this anime. Yes, it is about "Full Metal Alchemist" type of alchemy. Yes it has good action scenes. But it is so unoriginal and cheesy and corny as hell.
Animation and sound are decent. Good design and colors. Decent OP/ED songs and character voices.
Story is very unoriginal and the plot development makes it look like I'm watching an American animated series.
Characters... cliche upon cliche, but this time it has two main characters that are more like robots trying to act. The main character is just all about "justice this, justice that, honor this, honor that, doing good blah blah blah", except that he says those kinds of things in a robotic way. Ever heard of those weird as hell Real Life Role Players who say big yet corny and cheesy speeches and dialogues? That is how I view this character. And worse, this high school kid who has just acquired alchemy powers and has been pushed into the unknown world of alchemy warriors and humonculus in a sudden shocking way, accepts it in 1 second and already knows what to do (ie- how to use his powers 1 second after he gets them). Yeah... pathetic. Only bright thing is the rest of the side characters who are funny and add color to this otherwise worthless cast.
This series barely qualifies to the category of if-you-have-nothing-to-watch-or-are-bored-to-hell-then-watch-this-anime-to-kill-time type of series.

| Get your regular dosage of Bleach including a brownish red Orihime, mix in a little bit of Ed Elric's crazy alchemy and you've spawned yourself a Buso Renkin. As similar as these two series seem to fill BR, its quite enjoyable to see a new use of alchemy and homunculi (sp) in this tale. Though some of the content seem a bit TOO familiar, and brings down its originality; its still moreover worth a pickup.
