| You might say that this goes by the pattern. And yes, you're not very far.Actually you might expect the ending from the very begining. But I'm telling ypu, that did not bother me at all.Not even a bit. What I wanted to know was how the situation was going to be handled. The relationship between Karada-chan and Amino-kun and the one between Shoko-san and Hiro.
I enjoyed it very much. They made it short, but there's everything in it that makes a good drama anime.

| Even though the the idea of a little girl suddenly all grown-up seems straight off a hentai game and the premise could easily be a stage for a harem comedy, rest assured, Asatte no Houkou is far from what people would call snappy or wacky entertainment.
The main point of the story in Asatte no Houkou is that Hiro's little sister Karada things she's a burden to her brother as after their parents died Hiro has taken care of her. So she wants to grow up quickly and be independent. When Hiro came to take care of her, he left his girlfriend Shouko behind. Now Shouko has moved to the same town and she's not quite over Hiro yet. When they encounter some nifty summer magic, suddenly Karada notices that she's the grown-up she wanted to be and to her horror Shouko realizes she's a little girl again. As the three spend time together, certain things from past are revealed and things are getting ready to blow.
Things are ready to blow but they never quite make it that far. Asatte no Houkou is a very slow, moody piece where even highest passion is smooth and soft. The summer atmosphere of a small town with its open space and nature is quite captivating and kept me hooked in the series. The other reason for Asatte no Houkou's appeal is Karada, who's irresistibly cute both when child and adult. As the series is slow, there isn't much happening. Actually, you can count the sudden dramatic moments in the series with two fingers. Otherwise, the series concentrates slowly unravelling the consequences of these two happenings. As the character's notice that their change hasn't maybe been for the better, there's of course some development but honestly, they could have handled the simple changes in a couple of episodes. But the way to beautiful mood of the series wraps around the slow realization of things that happened in the past and how that will affect the characters already in a uncomfortable situation, is quite fascinating. There are many nice and heartfelt scenes between the characters as hidden emotions surface. As the reviews below state also, the main trio is the carrying force of the series. There are a couple of side characters, the boy who has crush on Karada and his sister, but nothing interesting comes from them. The former is too obsessed with Karada and has no real development and the latter albeit being cute and energetic doesn't fit the otherwise peaceful series. To be honest, the main characters are quite one dimensional too, but the thorough examination the series gives to them makes them real and likeable.
The animation itself is at par with current standards but I really like how the backgrounds bring out the small town atmosphere and the hazy, hot mood of the summer. Character designs are varying. Karada for example could win any cuteness award. Hiro on the other hadn looks a bit too much like hentai game main character with his hair hanging in front of his eyes. As for the sounds, I liked the opening and ending songs, both fittingly slow for the series. The background music follows the careful, fragile mood of the series and doesn't try to impress anyone.
Asatte no Houkou is a series for the patient viewer. Things take time to happen and the drama is not so intensive. But for those who can sit down and concentrate on the subtle mood of the series, it's a very good way of spending a few hours of summer somewhere far away. It's a series that sort of tells you don't have to hurry and in the end things will work out happily.

| With its premise of a 12 year-old girl and an adult woman switching ages could've easily made this series yet another anime comedy with a wacky premise, Asatte no Houkou insteads decides to go in a different direction with it and make it a drama. Usually I don't like dramas: they're often slow, uneventful, and give the excuse of filling up screentime with angst and long shots of scenery with no music or acting present. Fortuantely, Asatte no Houkou is surprisingly charming and realistic with its setup: who hasn't wish to be an adult when they are a child? And who wouldn't react to it in the same way Karada would (frightened and worried about what others will think of her)?
Like many dramas, this is a very character driven series, so a bad cast of characters usually can make even the best stories and setup suck (Inuyasha, Fushigi Yugi after the TV series, etc.). Asatte no Houkou DOES feature quite a couple of annoying side characters (oh boy, violent, angry older sister! Oh boy, carefree female friend of one of the main male characters! Never seen these stereotypes before), but the prinicipal cast of Karada, her older brother Hiro, and his ex-lover Shouko are not among these. This series truly is at its best when it deals with the story of these three characters and how their lives change not just because of the age swap, but of events in the past, all of which are done beautifully and timely as the series goes by. Just when I thought I knew as much as I thought I could about the cast..BAM! Something new came up.
If there's one gripe I have with the series, it's the running away scenarios. You see, sitting still in Asatte in Houkou is apparently some sort of law breaking action: Karada is always on the move, always worrying, always selfless. The last couple of episode especially turn into one big chase scene involving nearly every character in the series: it gets a little out of hand after a while. The ending is also predictable as well.
Still, even though the last couple of episodes pissed me off, Asatte no Houkou is a drama that does it right. With a great main cast, good art, cute, comedic scenes now and again, pretty, laidback music, and a great story that unfolds its principal cast's past slowly but assuringly, this ranks as one of the best series I've seen in 2006. I hope that it gets licensed soon.

| Asatte no Houkou is a drama anime that isn't all the drama to begin with. It starts off with a good episode and keeps you hooked, but then gets slower with each passing episode. If I were to make a graph of the intensity of the anime then the beginning episodes would be really high and the last episodes would be really low.
Animations are decent. I thought this anime would have good animations, because it's a drama anime. But it was really plain and had a lot of bland colors. The background also tends to have a lot of white in it and that makes the anime look dull and lifeless.
OP is slow, but fits the mood. Maybe a little too slow and I don't really like the slow OP of this anime or the super slow ED songs. After I heard them the first time, I just skipped through them the next eleven episodes. Background music is nice, but again the songs are slow and peaceful.
+ Peaceful music
- A little too slow for my taste
The story starts off promising then it kind of gets boring and really slow. Ending got a bit rushed and I felt the plot twist wasn't really exciting. And dramas are supposed to have good plot twists and strong emotions, but instead the story is more light hearted. Light hearted isn't bad, but I was looking forward for some real drama and some real intense emotions/feelings. The story is about a young girl who switches ages with an older women. But the older women had a boyfriend a long time ago and we find out her boyfriend is really the younger girl's brother. Sounds intense, but actually it's really slow. I don't think there was a single funny part in this anime or any real sad part. I think I just watched this anime with a blank look on my face, except I smiled a few times at the good parts and stuff.
Asatte no Hoko is a good anime. (Reminds me of Aishiteruze Baby with the animations, slow music, and little children) Asatte no Hoko has a slow paced story though. So if you think you can get through 12 episodes of a dragging story then go ahead. For those who want things intense now, maybe you should skip this anime and watch a different drama.

| Asatte no Houkou is a 12 episode long anime drama with a high degree of realism.
The character designs in Asatte no Houkou are excellent. All the characters look stunning and attractive, and their expressions are brilliant to look at. On the other hand, some of the backgrounds lack focus and sharpness, and are a bit too static at times. The quality of animation is usually high, but drops quite significantly in certain scenes. This gives me the impression that some scenes were rushed in simply to make the show a few seconds longer.
I found the opening theme to be enchanting, and the background music throughout the anime to be brilliant. There isn't much to complain about in the sound department, other than the fact that the constant screeching of the cicadas might give you permanent brain damage.
The storyline of Asatte no Houkou is not overly interesting in my opinion, and the ending felt a bit rushed. Then again, a drama isn't exactly about plot twists and unforeseen events.
The characters in Asatte no Houkou not only look good, but seem very real as well. The actions they take are mostly believable and their thoughts and decisions are mostly rational. This gives the storyline a feeling of realism, which is what makes this anime interesting in my point of view.
Asatte no Houkou is a very good drama, and will most likely be very enjoyable for drama fans. For non-drama fans, the character designs, music, and degree of realism might arouse your enjoyment in this anime, like is has done to me.

| Asatte no Houkou (The Day After Tomorrow) is a pleasant surprise drama anime by the kings of drama anime, J.C. Staff. If you didn't read any descriptions prior to watching (which I recommend), then you'll be pleasantly surprised by the end of the first episode. AnH keeps the relaxed and calm summeresque mood throughout the series as the characters deal with the problems they face and the causes to their bent relationships. Light humor and medium drama makes Asatte no Houkou a hidden gem that aired in the wrong season.
Spoilers are discussed (I don't want you to know what happens in the first episode ;P). Click to read.

The premise is very surprising if you don't read the description beforehand (which I didn't). You just don't expect it.
This anime goes a little slow, but it's enjoyable nonetheless, so you have time to think about the characters and what they might be thinking.
Overall, I'm willing to give this anime a shot. Asatte no Hokou looks very promising.
