| This one is up there with Kimi ga nozomu eien as the best romantic drama anime I have seen this far. It is funny, cute, heartwarming, sad and, best of all, realistic.

| Like some other reviewers have said, I started out with high hopes for this anime. It seemed like it would have good character development and good storyline. But after about four episodes I thought I was ready for it to be over.
I can applaud this anime for its attempt to create realistic characters with real problems and anything but glamorous lives. Yet I think they went too far with this. I found myself disliking the two main characters the longer it went on. The plot also dragged and started to resemble a teenage soap opera with all the break-ups, secrets of the past, and emotions. Nana, the main character consistently recycles the same emotion and impressions and her excessive introspection becomes boring. If you're a fan of sappy teenage dramas, then you'll probable like this show, but I was rather disappointed that it didn't have much more to offer.

| A lot of Red Bull and Nos kept me awake for the most part... the middle is really boring, but was it worth it...?
DEFIANTLY
I just adore the characters, not for their attributes, but their defects. Their personalities, insecurities, and infinite affections towards each other molds their dilemmas that seem so life-like. you have to dead to not understand what they are feeling.

| The weight of your past affects your ability to live within the present-at least that seems to be one of the running themes within Bokura Ga Ita, a slice of life, shoujo romance that portrays itself as life-like as an actual J-drama. It follows in the footsteps of many shoujo romance series such as Marmalade Boy, Kare Kano, Honey and Clover, and even Hana Yori Dango.
Meet Nanami Takahashi, affectionately called Nana-chan, an entering high school student who proclaims even before the series really kicks off "I loved him before I even knew his name", a phrase directed towards Yano Motoharu-who seems to be the target of affection for many girls within the class. The series targets itself around developing the ups and downs of the relationship between these two characters.
In the beginning, it's quite a sweet series with many opportunities for laughs and romantic scenes that come close to allowing tears to well up in your eyes. Yet...the way this series progresses doesn't amount to much outside the realm of shoujo cliches-and its a fairly predictable story save for the ending, at least up until a certain point.
Bearing with some parts of the story progression takes a bit of patience, as is required when watching any slice of life, romantic drama. I felt in step with Bokura ga Ita, even wanted to name it as one of my favorite shoujo romances...until episode 21. It may be a point of just utter frustration in me rooting for the two main characters, but I think it's more or less that the last six episodes was where I fell off the series bandwagon-at least at first. I felt terribly disappointed after watching the collective series the first time through. It's so melodramatic that it makes you want to pull your hair out (or, if you're a softie at heart, cry) at the events, and the ending....doesn't bring a collective sense of closure for the characters, though it does provide a rather conclusive close for our two heroes.
Watching it again with a calmer mindset about the ending, my opinion somewhat let up-as it really did warm up on me-yet I couldn't get past the fact that many minor insecurities on the parts of each of the characters were, at times, too bloated by series end-yet one could also say that none of the characters in this series were intended to be "ideal"-their glaring insecurities and imperfections are what compose the heart of the series. Depending on how this rubs on you, it can make or break your enjoyment of the series.
I really did like Bokura ga Ita on several levels, but for me, the story progression is not developed well enough for some to maintain interest in the series. The characters are well rounded, fleshed out, and identifiable save for a few (who have a sense of mystery for good reason- example Yuri Yamamoto). The animation is a bit tricky, the manga-like art works in the same way that Aishiteruze Baby and Honey and Clover are, yet I think some areas could have been improved within it. Music is quite good, I loved the OP theme to the series and the various ED themes that transitioned in different episodes.
Overall, a lukewarm recommendation for Bokura ga Ita. I really liked it-enough to watch it again and buy the series when it comes to the states. Still, there were parts of the series that disappointed me in the overall spectrum.

| Bokura ga Ita starts out as a sweet, romantic anime between two people - both very cute. You are motivated to watch it because you want to see them happily together, despite the guy's horrible past. You also want to cheer Nana on, because she's so naive and innocent. As the story moves on, things rise and fall, emotions sway back and forth, jealousy, INSECURITIES (sigh), situations get ugly and then improve - but then it keeps going on and on and on. I really got tired with the slow pacing and the never ending dramatic characters. Sure, I admit it, there were times when I was very happy for them, but in the end... I never got attached to the characters. Perhaps it was my insensitivity or just my lack of patience, but since I didn't care, I knew that ALL of this wouldn't matter later.
I don't really recommend watching this, there are plenty of better romance animes out there. But if you really want to try this romance out for some reason, my suggestion is to watch the first 8 or so episodes, read some blog for the episode summaries, and then watch the last few episodes. Bokura ga Ita's main downfall is that it takes too long to watch and requires a lot of patience. There just isn't enough tension to continue on watching the 'drama' unfold. It's just a constant ping-ponging of emotions and 'should I do this or that'. Sure, it's kind of similar to the indecisiveness and pain that teenagers go through, but come on now... "teenage love"????
p.s. i recommend reading: http://that.animeblogger.net/category/finished/bokura-ga-ita/
good summaries and thoughts for both those who want to watch it and those who don't want to watch it.

| The anime is dramatic but it's good dramatic, you'll cry many times.
Very shoujo and it's (almost) only about love and what love can do to you.
About what how much you can realize you can need someone.
How it is to miss someone you love.

| I found this series to be very A-typical of most romance anime. New high-school student who meets boy, falls in love at first sight and excuses him of all his faults because of said "love at first sight".
Not only was the plot predictable, and the music non-existant, the background design for the anime was horrendous.
The excessive use of white in the background caused the characters to lose their somewhat-decent-design and, instead, they look washed out. To me it looked as if the producers and more importantly the artists could care less about the enviroment the charcters were in and worried more about the characters themselves.
When you first what an anime you notice two things even beofre you understand what the characters are like or even the plot: Animation, and sound. So since the animation was so poor, I simply could not feel like I was part of this anime and did not enjoy it. It was a shame really since this seemed like such a promising anime when I viewed the first episode.

| Everyone knows the universal plot pattern for love stories: they meet, they fall in love, something separates them, and then they either get back together (happy ending) or they don’t (sad or tragic ending). Bokura ga Ita warps this pattern. Sure they meet, and yes they fall in love, then lo and behold something separates them, but before the happy/sad/tragic ending (I won’t tell you which) occurs, I got unintentionally hit with a question. Are they really in love?
For the first maybe slightly less than half of the show, I was willing to buy into this love story. They really seemed to be in love and I was captivated by every moment of their budding relationship. But nearing the middle of the series, the characters began feeling and acting and in ways that made their love questionable. Don’t get me wrong; a relationship doesn’t have to come up smelling like roses in order for the romance to be credible. It’s perfectly alright for a relationship to have tensions, and conflicts, and obstacles, the characters themselves can question the relationship and even doubt their own feelings. But when the viewer begins to have misgivings, the romance loses its magic.

| This anime started off well in my opinion. The animation was bad, there was always this bright light covering half the face of the characters, and they always seemed to only have one eye. I couldn't get used to this style, though I have to say that the characters were well-based.
After it got to about episode 18, I got quite bored of it as it started getting too draggy. The story isn't too bad. There were quite a few parts that I felt that could've been left out to make this anime a little less tedious, but it was alright overall.
Although it's not the type of anime I would've waited for a week for it to air the next episode, it's definitely worth trying out if you enjoy romance animes.

| I heard a few good things about it so I gave it a shot. I have to admit though at first it I had a little trouble getting into it, but once the story really got going it was good enough to get me hooked in for the remainder of the series.

| Okay, There are sooo Many things to say about this anime. So Where do i Start? Okay, Bokura ga Ita just reminds me of Honey & Clover, though there's a chance some people might call Bokura ga Ita a Copycat of Honey & Clover, I disagree. The bright, nicely-coloured animation style, the story-telling style, the genres of romance, drama, slice-of-life & Comedy, those might be alike, but then, the contents of the story is what Seperates them... =)
Okay, animation. hmm... Like i said, the animation style is similar to Honey & Clover's. The bright-coloured and those kind of tones and colours that you see as if you're looking at a dream or a flashback, that somehow blurry but still smooth and beautiful animation style. However, there is a flaw of the animation which i will mention below...
Now, the sounds? No Problem at aLL!!! It has a very nice OP theme, nothing can beat pop-rock music about love to show the happiness & light-heartedness of love. & what i found unique about this anime is the variation of Ending themes. The ending themes rotate around about 5 different songs? Not too sure about the number, but at least there is a variation, so it's rare to hear the same ending theme in the next consecutive episode. =) & the Insert Songs were GreaT As Well!!! It's like the songs they played really brought out the emotions of the scenes, as the characters continued their dialogue and reminicising their very memorable moments & flashbacks.
And The Seiyuus? Oh My Gosh, The seiyuus Couldn't have Done a Better Job! It Was One of the Best Voice Acting EVER!!! Well, their dialogues are quite close to perfect, & the emotions that came with it, together with the nice animation, The Seiyuus Definitely Did a Very Good Job! So there are no Flaws about the Sounds... =)
Okay, now Story... I Definitely think the Story of Bokura ga Ita is really Well Made & Well planned. All the flashbacks and emotions that came with it, the history and the connection with all the different people, from the past and present, it was ReaLLy Well Planned & Well Presented, at the right time. Not too soon, not too late. The Story pace was considerably fast for a shojo, drama anime. Yes. Many Things happened in just 1 episode. It's like as if I watched 1 episode of Bokura ga Ita, & when the Ending theme comes along, and showing the scenes of what happened in that episode. I just felt Amazed & kinda shocked that sooo Many Scenes & Events happened in Just that 25 Minutes of Show?! & the Story-telling style from the eyes of the main character(usually) & rotating around the other supporting characters, it was Really Good.
These all were traits of Honey & Clover, about how the story too is well planned and contains a lot of connections & really amazing stories & flashbacks. & also the pace of the anime was slightly faster than normal shojo animes, but H&C was slightly paced slower than Bokura ga Ita, in my opinion. & the Story-telling style which rotates around the characters. They are similar to Honey & Clover, but then, it was all right with me because the contents, story & Background History of Bokura ga Ita is different & it still amazes & Surprises me even if the story telling style seems alike.
Yes, another aspect of the Story I liked is the way, that they could fit Comedy all the time, & they never run out of Jokes. All the shojo-like jokes were really good & I found myself enjoying them as they come along. Even when they were sometimes in the middle of a serious scene. (This was a serious flaw of Ayashi no Ceres, in my opinion, but it worked perfectly fine in Bokura ga Ita...) =)... I especially Liked the Funny Scenes of Nana & her 2 Best Friends, Mizu-chan & Taka-chan... & Also the scenes where Yano was being Silly & Mean, in a funny way. =D... They were All Quite Funny, & made Bokura ga Ita More Enjoyable... =)
I also liked the Story of Bokura ga Ita because it is like... watching the story of a Bitter-sweet Lovelife of a couple. It REALLY IS Great as it goes into the aspects & Stages of couples. Like when couples go into really stupid & silly fights, when they fight & the things they fight over about, why happiness sometimes come and go, why sadness comes soo many times, & the jealousy that comes from being a couple. It is just all Amazingly Well-told. So, for all those love-deprived people, Bokura ga Ita REALLY IS a GOOD Slice-of-Life show that Seriously Shows how Couples Truly Have It... Happiness, Sadness... Jealousy, InSecurity. Even if you're a full grown adult, & you watch Bokura ga Ita. Then when you watch this, you would probably go like, "Aahhhh, the life of a youngster, a lovelife when both partners are immature, young & foolish, the relationship is insecure & unstable, but yet, both make almost-quite-impossible promises & both still try hard to make each other happy." TRULY AMAZING!!!
Not Cliche at All. Extremely Unpredictable. It Just Goes to show how Unpredictable someone's feelings are. & The events that occured were Really Unpredictable. Even the Ending didn't go the way i thought or wanted it to be.
Oh Yeah, & Another Great Aspect of this anime is, They Never Left out Any Characters!!! =D... I mean, it's a really common flaw in many animes, when the anime starts concentrating on a handful of characters, and they leave out the extra supporting characters. But in Bokura ga Ita, they Didn't. For example, when they were focusing on Nana having to make up with Yano, at least they showed her 2 best friends trying to help her, & also, Yamamoto Yuri wasn't left alone. She was seen walking around quietly (as usual)... But at Least, the supporting side characters were not Left alone, & though this might be a small point, but it's a Great Thing because Bokura ga Ita didn't make this mistake like most of the other animes out there... PlUS POINT!!! =D
Now, the Characters...The Characters are EXTREMELY Well Made & Well Developed. & the way the story was told through the different Characters' point of views... It was Really Amazing & Refreshing to be able to see & try to understand how things & situations looked like through another person's eye... & throughout the whole series, I was watching both Yano & Takahashi's behaviour, attitude & Thinking changing & developing, and becoming more wise and mature as time passed while they were a couple. It is truly amazing to see how getting into a relationship can change someone SoO Much... & I must say, the characters were really good, all showing that No One is Truly Perfect, & how everyone has their human Faults, Definitely a PLUS Point for ANY Anime... =) Yes, & the way they revealed all these flaws slowly, bit by bit as the relationship gets deeper. It's like as if you can go... Aaahhhh, so this is how it's like to be able to know someone to the fullest.
There is Another BIG Plus Point in the Characters Aspect. =) It's the Wonderful Character Design. I mean, what kind of Love or Romance animes can Truly Work if the characters were Ugly?! & Seeing how both Yano & Takeuchi were both created, drawn & designed to be Very Handsome & Dashing guys, & how Nana & the other Nana were Really Drawn Cute & Pretty... & Combining their Heavenly-Attractive Looks with their Talents, Skills, Human Qualities & Flaws. That is Truly a GREAT Aspect of Bokura ga Ita...
Do I Need to Put in Examples?
Well, Yano. He's Cold & Mean at many times, and he lies or runs away when he's asked a question of his past he can't get over with... It's annoying & irritating how sometimes he hurts Nana without thinking. With such flaws, it'd seem impossible to forgive a person like him, But then, He has many redeeming qualities as well. He's Popular, Handsome, Funny, Cheerful & Silly, and his smile is Really Heartwarming and easily brushes away any of Nana's uneasiness. So, Just like Nana, we ALL Feel that Yano can be a Really Mean Jerk at times, but then again, He's still SoO Lovable, it's like you can't really stay mad at him. At least I can't... =P
& Nana Looks like a crybaby who cries about anything and EVERYTHING & extremely stubborn, being Selfish & always needing someone else to clean her mess up for her. But then, she's cute, & nice & tries to spread niceness around her. Even then, We understand her because she is mainly the storyteller, So we see most of the story's plot through her eyes, & it's hard to Go Against Nana since she explains everything in her view. & she is probably quite stereotypical. Either way, she has her flaws, but then, she has her human qualities as well, so We Can't entirely hate her either... x)
So...To be able to see how everyone, even the most attractive person of all, have their qualities and flaws... It Just feels kind of nice to know that you're not the only one who's suffering. =) & Also, all these Characters are Really Memorable. I doubt anyone would forget such Wonderfully Made Characters easily...
& The Wonderfully Made Characters Combined together with the Wonderfully Made & Planned Story, Bokura ga Ita has got to be ONE OF THE REALLY GREAT ANIMES EVER MADE!!!
However, sadly, there are also a couple of flaws... =(
The Most obvious flaw in the animation is... The Missing of the eyes in Many Scenes. I mean, it's all right to show secretiveness & disappointment by not drawing the eyes of characters. But then, It's like as if they were trying to save time or money by not drawing the eyes quite a number of times. It doesn't happen much at first. Only the miscellanous & unknown/unimportant characters were not given eyes. That is understandable. But as the series goes on, for some reason, even in close-up scenes, the supporting & main characters were sometimes not given Eyes?! & it really ruined the mood sometimes. & sometimes when the characters are seen from the side-view, you can see their eyes bulge.(O_O).I guess that is probably the Artist's style, but still, it looks weird, though tolerable, but still slightly disturbing for me... =(
Any other Flaws? hmm, well, there is one point in the storyline where i'm sure the viewers will extremely dislike Yano. Well, not wanting to post any spoilers, but yeah. Even then, I was all right with it, since i was thinking, well, this is planned by the person who made Bokura ga Ita, so I can't go against what the person has planned. Though i disliked Yano a bit for that scene. But still, i was quite alright with it. Not wanting to go against it & Hate the whole Bokura ga Ita just because of that... <_<
& probably the last flaw is... I Couldn't Cry. =( I Mean, Bokura ga Ita is Such a GREAT Anime!!! It had a GREAT Storyline, GREAT Characters, GREAT Scene, GREAT Emotions, I Was Getting Emotional, But For Some Darn Reason, I couldn't Cry... Darn... I feel like i wasted a really good anime... =(... I wonder if it is because my expectations was raised too high ever since i watched Full Moon wo Sagashite (another Really GreaT Drama Anime)...
But ANYWAY!!! Bokura ga Ita is a WONDERFUL ANIME!!! A Great Slice-of-Life Anime which brings you to See How Great Relationships ARE!!! & how Sad & Tough they are as well... WATcH It If you Love a Nice Shojo, Drama, Slice-of-Life Anime to Chill out on... Because Bokura ga Ita isn't Just a Sad anime & full of problems, it also has FuLL of Romantic & Heartwarming Scenes. Really Heart Warming, the kind when you're enjoying something warm on a Cold Winter Day... ;) *that's how i feel... & I think they communicated those feelings quite well*
Note: If you hate Shojo/Drama Animes, Really Complex Thinking, Can't Understand Liars, or Crybabies. I suggest you keep away from Bokura ga Ita as you would probably not enjoy it. If you have enjoyed Honey & Clover, then Bokura ga Ita would be another Good Watch for you. =) since it contains similar aspects as H&C, but please don't Look at this Wonderful Creation as any kind of rip-off. Cause it Isn'T!!! =)
Bokura ga Ita is gonna be one of those animes that's gonna Stick on me for a ReaLLy Long Time... I keep dreaming about what would happen if I was in their relationship. I keep dreaming about what would happen if I was in their situation at the ending (not wanting to post spoilers) ...I keep thinking about how well made the characters are. How Human they are that I seriously want them to come alive, I feel like I want to be in a Relationship like theirs even though it's tough & it has Full of Ups & Downs, Happiness & Hardships. Bokura ga Ita has Seriously affected the way I think of Life & Love.

| Bokura Ga Ita will make you sigh, and go...awww. Aside from that, it comes with drama. BAM. It's realistic, and I picked up many things that would make me contemplate. I didn't like it the first 2 episodes and thought...this is so typical. I tried a few more episodes, and my view point changed completely. A must-see for romance lovers.
Love is all about timing.

| Had it not been for the words “Akitaro Daichi,” I wouldn’t have touched Bokura ga Ita with a ten foot pole. Romantic dramas often suspend belief; their characters often behave in the most impossible ways and their stories are manipulative and hilariously over-the-top. But Bokura ga Ita is a pleasant surprise. Not only does our high school couple behave like real-life teenagers, but cheesy melodrama is nowhere to be found. ….at least not until the second half of the series. I have yet to watch a genuinely good romantic drama; even after spiraling wildly into General Hospital fare, Bokura ga Ita came mighty close to being the first.
(I'll write more later)

| I started this Anime without much research beforehand and didn't expect much..but it grabbed my attention pretty fast!
I found myself rooting for the characters and before I knew I was completely addicted to them.
The characters are profound and have their own struggles with themselfes and with others.
How far would you go for your loved one? That's one of the questions that's being handled here..and the others aren't easier!
I also liked the soundtrack and the kinda unique animation style: For example, people who are just passing by are left blank-colored, which gives the main-characters more of a focus (And another impression of how much friendship and love differ people's values for you).
The Animation and Sound (Voice-Actors are great, if you think about the characters being 15-17!) and overall the show is pretty cute.
The one point which made me write this review is the ending of this show..sadly it ends pretty open and left me melancholic and wanting for more!

| To this day, I still proclaim Kare Kano as the best romance anime I've ever seen. Honey & Clover may have been superior overall, but the relationships were still subpar in comparison(IMO).
Ever since I watched Gainax's maddening inconsistent effort with KK, I longed for a second season. Or at least a similar anime, where the main couple is intelligent and daring enough to jump into a relationship right from the start. Also, it would help if the animation was popsicle stick-free and recap episodes were entirely eskewed.
Bokura ga Ita proved to be the answer to my prayers, at least based on the first 13 episodes. The 2nd half, however, began chipping away at my elation until I was yet again left with disappointment over what could have been.

| On the surface, this seems like a typical shoujo/romance anime and it basically is. But what sets it apart is the snappy writing and sense of pacing that is sorely lacking in even the best shoujo anime out there.
Unlike many anime that veer off into other themes such as art in Honey & Clover and a lot of strange antics in Fruits Basket to the comedy in Kare Kano, Bokura ga Ita cuts to the chase and the beef: The romance and the drama there in.
Since it is an Akitaroh Daichi adaptation of a manga, there are a few cute and funny tidbits, but the story still stays in the realm of being a pure romantic drama story.
Overall, this anime is rock solid in terms of storytelling, and if you are into romantic stories at all or are willing to give it a try, this anime will tug at your heartstrings and play with your emotions. Which is what makes this anime stand out despite its seemingly simplistic nature.

| Just finished episode 13 and i have to admit that this ended very well. Bokura Ga Ita is probably the most simple love drama show I've watched. More simple than the live soap operas and all those other going-over-board-drama-issue shows. This is just plain highschool drama story here(with pretty well done comedy I might add).

| I've found this anime to be the best that has come out this year 2006 and everything is heartily breath-taking. I have only watched 13 episodes so far and it has already fufill my need to put this anime as one of my top 10 anime. I checked the manga though and first i must say i wasn't that much interested but the anime completely contradicted my perception. It is without doubt a 10/10 ^ ^

| This isn't the type of anime I like to watch, but it has somehow gotten my attention and made it worthwhile to watch it.
Let us start with the animation. Basically it's way too bright and blurry. You can barely see the character's facial expresions as a result. Voice acting is very nice though, combined with decent but rather ordinary OP/ED music. Story and characters are the traits that make this series stand out. Basically it's about a girl who falls in love with a boy who seems to have a sorrowful past. The way the main characters approach each other and develop their relationship is pretty lighthearted and funny at times. This in turn results in a well paced character development.
I'll be honest here, this isn't as great of a series as you might think. However, it is worth watching. Unlike most romantic series, this one isn't as heavy hearted and sad. In fact it tends to show us a brighter side of romance despite, as someone said previously, "its serious tone".
Edit: Let's just say that after I saw it all, I was glad that it was over even though I still enjoyed it a bit. Mixed up feeling I know, but I was kinda tired of nearly the same thing on most episodes.

| Wow. Unbelievable anime in my opinion. Wonderfully paced, every scene belongs in place.
This anime is one of the gems of 2006. It's a bit similar to School Rumble in it's wackiness sometimes, but there's a serious tone inherent as well. I think it's that tone that keeps the show grounded and believable, as well as likable. The humour is perfect, light hearted enough to make one smile.
It's only been 4 episodes into the series, but this is the first since Fruits Basket where every episode so far has been top quality. The sound goes perfectly, musical pieces making the viewer reflect on themselves at times too.
The story hasn't evolved much, and it's basically pretty simple but it's pretty interesting to see how the girl character, Takahashi handles her situations. The only thing that concerns me with the anime is the quickness of how fast Takahashi and Yano's relationship develops. It probably means quite a bit of trouble between the two later on.
Not many characters have been developed this early into the show yet but the two main draws so far have had enough to carry the show. I love the twist of humour, and the effect the animation style has of enhancing it's effect. Some scenes scream at you, providing an exclamation mark even if you didn't initially get the intended joke.
Give this show a chance and I'm sure you'll be charmed. It grabs you from the outset and doesn't let go. Moreover, there's some value to the moral of the anime. Most probable, this is my favorite anime of 2006.
I have to give props to the studio responsible for churning out this gem. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a light hearted, romantic comedy, that can take a page right out from our lives.
