| I keep it short and simple like the anime itself.
The anime had a lot going for it, a nice plot and it could have had developing story twists and stuff, but it didn't. Its a simple story about two poor sisters who have to look out for one another since their mom died and father ran away due to gambling debt.
In any case, the messages the story portrays are really simple and cliche'd, i.e. Being a burdern to older sister etc. In all though, the anime never fails to hit potential levels, it just manages to simmer in between average to ok.
The reptitiveness of the anime hurts it alot as im sure i heard the same messages before from other animes before, the anime even manages to re-write stories for themselves but still keep the same message at times.
Overall: 6/10
Grade: C
Nothing special, its short and sweet but you don't want to go back to it again in a hurry.

| Beautiful, dainty, serene, joyful, funny, dramatic and sweet.
This heart-warming tale is about 2 poor sisters living in a one-room apartment vowed to protect each other. This small family has many problems: having no parents, with very little money, fighting of the rent. But also the sensitivity and frailty of a 9-year-old’s feelings and the struggle for her 15-year old sister to take care of her trying her best not to hurt her fragile feeling. The younger sister also feels like she is a burden and needs to help her older sibling the best she can. What’s interesting is that the younger sister is a very good judge of character, still being young and innocent. Also, it differs from the usual relationship between a boy and girl, and I’m glad this concentrates on love within the family, between 2 troubled sisters. This short series really displays the character’s feelings very well. Although as unrealistic and unlikely that deprived life would be quite like this, it still is fun to watch.
I also think it’s dangerous the way those kids run in the streets like that. I’m surprised they don’t get taken down by a car.

| Binbou Shimai Monogatari... A short 10 episode diversion full of moe, familial love, and a very pessimisstic, yet hopeful storyline. Sure a log of bloggers seem to bash this anime as "moe-overkill", "cheesy", "unrealistic" etc. I have to disagree. This anime is classified as a slice of life anime, but I don`t think people should take that literally by pointing out every superficial aspect of Binbou Shimai Monogatari.
Animation:
Toei Animation did this anime, and while it might not have the caliber of Kyoto Animation or Production I.G., the animation gets the point across. There`s decent running animation, character designs are surprisingly very consistent (with occasional chibi thrown in here and there). The light pastel backgrounds doesn`t distract at all, and the last episode had the best animation in this series.
Sound:
A very catchy opening along with a good ending song by the seiyuu of Aka from REC gives this anime a good rating in the sound department. The OST has some good selections too, notably the song they play whenever anything serious happens and the "happy end" music. The sound is one of Binbou`s stronger points. Seiyuu talent such as Maaya Sakamoto along with Chiyo from Azumanga Daioh as the main characters lend this anime considerable acting ability.
Story:
Story? This anime is only ten episodes, and each one is standalone and episodic. It`s basically about two sisters who`s mother had died and the father is nowhere to be seen and how they survive in Tokyo in a run down apartment. Sure it seems impossible, but the focus of this anime is on the relationships of the characters, whether it to be sister to sister, landowner to tenant, neighbors to neighbors. Introducing many characters to flesh out the focus on relationships, there was too less of a number of episodes to fully develop the full picture.
Character:
The strongest point of Binbou Shimai Monogatari. Asu, Kyo, Owner, the rich neighbor, Ginko and Kinko, and the singer all play a point role in this anime. Whether it to be Kinko`s antics at thrifting money, or how the sisters get by their days with very little money, to the Owner`s past and the guitar player who aspires to be a singer, the characters were all very memorable and likeable.
Value/Enjoyment:
I enjoyed translating this anime. While it wasn`t exactly mind boggling or amazing, it delivers its point across and kept me interested. Enjoy this anime for its characters, along with the music. Although the pink petals do get excessive at times, the final episode still managed to bring a tear to my eyes. I recommend this anime for anyone looking for a good change of pace from action/philosophical anime, and it`s a good rest for the brain.
