| I'm pretty surprised how uniformly bashed Sky Girls is on the 'net, especially the loli and fanservice comments. As a result, I held off watching the OVA for quite awhile -- and wished I saw it sooner.
If you can get past the pics of the three girls in their battlesuits, you can pretty much enjoy the OVA. It's pretty much a teaser pilot for the series. You get the three girls and their stereotype personalities, some hints of their relationships with the other personnel, and a battle with a big monster at the end. And animation which I thought was pretty good, certainly better than quite a few mainstream anime series I've seen.

| Okay, I admit that the initial reason I decided to watch this was not one of good intent. I was fully expecting it to suck, and thankfully was prepared for the crap that was to follow. And yes, it is bad -- quite bad indeed.
The animation isn't up to OVA standards. For supposedly being military personnell (since when does that matter in anime anyhow?), the three girls spend about twenty of the thirty minutes waltzing around in swimsuits in one form or another. I don't see why they even bothered with this, as the girls' designs are far too simplistic to really even call it fanservice. There's a huge lack of detail from character designs to scenery, which really doesn't make this a pleasing visual experience. Just a hint to the creators: If you want to make a fanservice OVA, at least make the girls cute.
While I'm on the topic of the girls not being attractive, let me add that this is also because of their voice acting. Maybe it was the abhorrent script, but the Seiyuu here was terrible. At their very best they were decent, and on average they sucked. Couple in some crap opening/ending themes and lame insert music for good measure. I've three words for the sound score: bad, bad, bad.
The story isn't even worth mention. For a good five minutes it was a constant rehash of "Prepare to standby!" The rest is the girls prancing around bikinis. If anything, the battle scene at the end of the OVA was mediocre, but I got bored watching in after about twenty seconds. You will too.
The characters are the worst part of this, though. They throw in three obvious "romances," all of which are so contrived it's laughable. Each of the girls are incredibly retarded cliches, and the "admiral" doesn't say his orders out loud, he points forward and somehow everybody interprets this correctly. I must admit, though, I did actually chuckle when I heard the guy with the goatee say (paraphrasing), "It's one of two things -- a giant alien lifeform or a flock of birds, we just can't tell yet!" That's about as intuitive as the characters get.
I could say more, but I don't want to waste anymore time typing out a review that already gets my point across. Unless you want to laugh at how bad anime production can be (like me), then do yourself a service and stay far away.

| It's amazing how consistently bad Konami's animated ventures truly turn out to be. First Best Student Council, then Tokimeki Memorial Only Love, and now this "gem".
Sky Girls is essentially about three oh-so-cute girls (who look like they're 12, but claim to be 16. Right) battling evil while riding around in mecha while wearing glorified switsuits. It's a story that's been to death many, many times before, and it's not helped by lame characters, pathetic, short storytelling, bad attempts at humor (guy looking up girl's skirt != funny), and tasteless fanservice. Just go buy or rent off Netflix Nadiesco instead if you want cute girls in mechs.

| Sky Girls teilt so ziemlich das Schicksal aller 1 Episoden-OVAs und bietet dem Zuschauer aufgrund seiner kurzen Dauer, weder eine zufrieden stellend ausgearbeitete Story noch irgendwelche tieferen Einblicke in die auftretenden Figuren. Doch selbst wenn man die Episodenanzahl erweitert hätte, Sky Girls hat von Anfang an weder das Potential noch die Qualitäten um den Zuschauer mit Interesse längerfristig an sich binden zu können. Der Plot stellt mit einer Loli-Kampftruppe die gegen böse Riesenaliens kämpft absolut nichts Originelles dar und verläuft in dieser Episode seiner Natur entsprechend geradlinig und platt. Innovationen sind zu keiner Zeit auszumachen und so ziemlich alles fällt hier dem Klischee zum Opfer. Die Charaktere sind kaum erwähnenswert und ihre Persönlichkeiten entsprechen dem typischen Standard den man in unzähligen anderen Animes schon zuhauf zu Gesicht bekommen hat (Mrs. Happy-Go-Lucky, Fräulein Schüchtern und Madame Kühl von Abgeklärt). Dann addiere man noch Loli-Ecchi, inklusive Freiblick auf nackte Haut sowie vereinzelte T&A-Shots, gibt ein paar krasse Mecha-Battlesuits hinzu, würze das Ganze mit Andeutungen von Romantik wo jedes der 3 Girlies einen Typen hat den es heimlich anhimmelt und fertig ist der Klischee-Eintopf. Die Animationen sind immerhin recht nett anzuschauen und der obligatorische Mecha-Battle gegen das böse Monster-Alien kommt recht rasant und actionreich daher. Der Soundtrack dümpelt hingegen unauffällig im Hintergrund und außer dem OP und ED gibt’s nichts was sonderlich ins Ohr zu gehen vermag. Fazit: Sky Girls gehört zu den OVAs die man ohne zu zögern ignorieren kann. Der alt eingesessene Anime-Fan wird hier nichts finden was ihn in irgendeiner Weise begeistern könnte und selbst Zuschauer die mit den gängigsten Klischees nicht allzu vertraut sind, werden dieser Episode aufgrund ihrer Transparenz und Flachheit nichts abgewinnen können

| This is one boring anime. The only thing which is shown in this anime are prepubescent girls and this makes it alot like a lolie anime. If its anything like futakoi, then it will be better, but this is really more towards divergence eve style/something like ultimate girls. Its not really nice as the anime is just some 30 minutes. You only get some ecchi scenes, and a plot which is quite linear at best. The seiyuu are ok at bringing the characters up but the character designs are not really what I call the best. Imagine watching one ep of stratos 4 where they are all flying into space, and that is what this is. There is very little background thoug hthe anime is quite nice but its not really enough. This is a waste of time.
