| OK, Saint Seiya's one of my favourite animes off all time. I started watching it since I have memory, and now (I'm 14) I still enjoy seing it!!! I just love it!!! I'm in love with the story, I'm in love with it's characters. It's a classic. It's wounderful.
Animation: At the beginning, the animation wasn't THAT good, but it gets better and better during the series.
Sound: I didn't like the songs very much, but I think japonese voices are great.
Story: Very good. I really got into it. I can watch it over and over and over again.
Character: This is probably the best thing SS has: it's characters. Seiya, Shiryu, Hyoga and Shun were (and ARE) my heroes!! And of course, there's a lot more characters I love. I like the drawing very much, you know. The men with long colored hair and very pretty faces ;) They're original.
Value: Like I said.. I can watch ir over and over again. I don't get tired!!
Enjoyment: a big 10. It's totally enjoyable. It has action, it has drama, it has friendship, it has cute boys... It has everything.

| This is one of the best series I have ever seen. It´s a clasic. Overall it has some flaws of course, but that just makes it even better (just Saint Seiya, other series with this issue are crap).
Enjoyment: I couldn´t stop watching. Even the 10th time I did it.
note: I recomend watching the movies as well.

| Another anime I really liked to watch when I was a kid.
Saint Seiya is a clever combination of action and magic. The story is pretty simple, but it succeds in catching one's interest. The main characters have real emotional depth; you can actually watch them struggle to reach their goals (sometimes this anime is overly-dramatic! :p). Also the vague references to mythology make it all the more interesting.
So, basically you have a simple plot, but developed in a way that will make it interesting. That's a positive point.
Now for negative aspects: you have the animation; it's not bad, but well, it's not good either... it's from the 80's. The sound is not that good. Also, things are too slow to happen and the series are too long (making it boring).
Overall, I guess this anime is just average. I'd like to give it very high scores, because I used to really like it, but... can't do it. Unfortunately there are many anime series of the action/fantasy genre that are much better than this. Might be good only for fans...

| My reason for watching this anime for the first time it is a bit interesting: it was the very first bloody thing I've watched on TV, and I was a kid back then. At that time, I got all excited, watched this series over and over again, and then, when it was not on air anymore, I forgot about it. Nowadays I got to watch it again and could rate this anime with critic eyes. I have to say that this one is a must-see, for it is one of the very first anime to make such a huge success around the world, a jumping board for other series to get known in other countries. BUT, especially for people nowadays, this one should be watched for it is a classic, not for having spetacular graphics, or great animation quality. I myself enjoyed a lot once (I even had a Bandai action figure), but there are a lot of better stuff out there.

| This is one of my first animes i've watched after communism collapsed and we were able to get something else then two hours of propaganda and cheap cartoons from our Bulgarian neighbours who had a more free regime then us romanians... Well anyway the first i've seen was Kigagume Orange Road on Italia 1.
This show, it was something else, i'had never seen an cartoon before at that time, it was the one that gave me the chance to dream, something that the comunists didn't allowed. The battle between good and evil, good always wins, at that time of innocence i thought that was possibile...
The epic story of the knights of the zodiac as they fight for good, the drama, the action, the suspence, the nice old drawings... many might not know it but this is what inspired later famous series like Sailor Moon.
I've rewatched it a few days ago and it really brought some nice memories... even dough the animation doesn't have any way to compete with the new series it is still on my lickings and he overall story and characters still impressed me...
Saint Seiya isn't just a classic, it's a Legend... one of the animes that defined new genres, in this chase the team-work good promoters fight evil and win genre... just like "Maison Ikkoku" was for the harem/romance/comedy type of animes... or Gundam for mecha, or Evangelion for dark/psychology/drama/sf animes.... and you have to watch it, see the father of a genre of animes and respect it!!

| I am giving this anime a 10 for every category because I think it truly deserves it. The animation might not look like much these days but it was ground breaking for its time. The one stop animation is used very fluidly throughout the series although there are a couple of scenes that look pedestrian in a few episodes of the Sanctuary Chapter that could have been handled better. The sound effect is just amazing in this series as the background music is just another grand layer that adds to the overall effect. It communicates the themes of friendship, sadness and sacrifice splendidly. The story itself starts out being a bit boring but like in most great series like Cat's Eye or Utena it lays the ground for what is to come very well. The voice actors are also excellent in this series and make the characters even more interesting and deep. The Asgard series shows even more interesting characters and story. This anime has great value as I am still as moved by this series as I was 13 years ago when I first saw it. In my books this is a true classic and I strongly recommend it.

| Back when I first discovered this site, one of the very first things that shocked me was to find that this anime was relatively unknown to the public. In my country it is a big sucess, even today 11 years after, we have this anime broadcasting on TV(even though quite untimely, pretty understandable).
If you are a fan of Shounen, you should watch this. It is my favourite of that genre, maybe it could become yours too. It has got one thing the others I have seen don't imo: "magic", the "x factor", whatever you'd like to call it. I have to admit I'm a bit biased, you know, I grew watching this, but being as objective as a I can, this is one of the best shounens. Not only this has awesome fights, but also a good storyline(albeit a bit repetitive), an original premise, charismatic characters, powerful themes of friendship and sacrifice, and good looking bishounen(if you are into that). Add Greek mithology to the mix, and you've got a winning recipe ;)
If DB is the "father" of the shounen genre, this anime is the "mother", and we all know how important mothers are, don't we?

| ok finally I decided to make my review.
I cannot say this is the best anime ever made, because I haven't seen many anime series so far in my short life, anyway, it is surely really entertaining and educative.
As for the matter of tastes, everyone could like what he wants... but I think this anime deserves something more even from people who don't like it at all (And see, I'm trying to be as much impartial as I can). I'm still trying to understand, what kind of animes they would like. In the end, I think everyone can see that Graphics is really well done, and even if some could not like 3D effects (referring to Hades Series), it remains a value-added to the series. Sounds surely makes their effects and fits very well to all the story, I think. Story it's repetitive at last (and it is the weakest spot of the anime), and I got bored too with other films, but the first ideas of the creator, to use Greek mythology, Vikings legends etc, and make them come to life again, it's wonderful and full of hints for future sequels.
The REAL problem, I think, is that it had, in 1986 such a great success, that convinced Toei animation to do those crappy films which lower the value of all the serie. It is obvious they only wanted to keep fans tuned and had instead no good ideas of how to get anything new from it, while waiting for Hades Series -.-

| I am saying this anime do not have any value at all. The anime is based on late 1980s production. Therefore, plenty of reused pictures were used in the first series. I find that Kurumada Masami has problems in drawing females characters and their shape and body. Therefore, he come to the conclusion that Saints must be males. If females want to be saints then they should wear masks. So, he don't have to draw any girl face and shape that much, as Saints have to wear armors. In substitute to female shortage, Masami draw girl face on male characters, which become Gay Saints. I find that all member of Andromeda Saints (Shun and two of his Bronze Saints colleagues are all cross gender), Couple of Silver Saints e.g. Misty, Numerous Gold Saints e.g. Mu, Shaka, Aphrodite, or even Camus and Saga. Three in Asgards e.g. Mimi, Bado, Shido. Also in Poseidon, you can find that Siren who is the vice commander of Mariners are gays. I found that anime versions are different from manga. I rather say Manga did a better job. Also, the age are totally unrealistic. I rahter say they should added 5 to 10 years on each characters. All bronze saints are 14 years old, which I foiund they are too young. Those hot head teenages are around 16 to 22. THen Silver should be around 21 to 24 the age that they start to learn about role, responsibility. In case of Marine (Seiya teacher) should be at least 22 when she met Seiya and woudl be around 28 in the story. All Gold members apart from Saga, Camus, Shura, and Aioros, would be around 25-30 as they are mature enough to be master of the bronze saints. Camus and Shura would be at least 24 in the begining and would be around 30-35 during the battle. Saga would be at least 37-40 if he want to be the ruler of the elite corps. I say in the real world, at that age you are still middle grade officers in the arms corps. So, the age are the most unrealistic party of the anime.

| This series is the why i watch anime nowdays, i had 12 ears old, to me this is the best anime i ever watched, this anime have something that catch you and make you love it, the action is really original, i watch a lot of fighting anime and there aren´t fights like this anime presents. With lots of background history for almost every character you don´t want to stop watching once you start. Some chapters are greatly detailed. Well in few words, the best.

| Great series. You won't believe how much you will be drawn into the characters and a story that just keeps getting better and better. The stuff that recent anime like Naruto is made from. A must see.
PS: Zodiac Knights is not Saint Seiya!! I keep getting more and more surprised at how good american companies are at ruining anime....

| I originally seen this at the age of 6, first wrote this review at 17. Now rewriting it at 19, my feelings and superior regard for this anime has not altered. If anything, the amount of trash I have seen over the years have all but confirmed Saint Seiya as a true classic.
Rarely, you come across something that shakes, changes and ultimately moulds your imagination. This anime was truly inspirational, especially for me when I first viewed it. Immersed deeply in Greek mythology, the element of fantasy was evident straight away. Helping make the fantasy convincing, the idea of scale was conveyed really well. The settings, the moves of the characters and the complex hierarchy of power and status were just some of the ways that this was done. Sure, this may look rather simple and retro now, but remember, what looks good today may not look good tomorrow – looks may change but substance are much more difficult to erode.
Perhaps, for some, the shower of eye-candy animation may have lessened the enjoyment of the anime, but do note that if you look at the manga artwork, the designs and quality are still hardly matched today. You should not, unless animation is of huge or total importance to you, downgrade this anime.
The story, the epic struggle and the feeling of trance are the points you should take note of. These were the pillars for strength for Saint Seiya. Personally, the anime has become an ever-present benchmark for other animes or in fact any story. It has made vast amounts of new animes seem pitiful and lacking. Saint Seiya’s lack of exposure in the West is a real shame, especially in English speaking countries. I have read that an edited version of this anime has been aired on Cartoon Network; and that the edit has unfortunately made this not so dissimilar to Power Rangers. Please, if you are going to give this a try, try the original version.

| Classic shonen anime (there are a lot of classic shonen anime, no?) with loads of mythological action (ha) and unfortunately a whole helluva lot of filler. The music is catchy and the cast of characters if unforgetable. The main story arcs are quite entertaining even with all the damn filler. Animation isn't all that bad except for a few episodes that give new meaning to "stock footage". Definitely worth watching.

| When I watched this I was in the second grade, I remember completely loving this, but that was ages ago. I forgot how the animations look like, just remembered that I was okay with it when I was a kid, but I don't feel right judging them base on childhood memories.
I remember the who story still, that proves how great the story was, well to a kid at least. The characters were very kool in my memories, and they are kinda distinct memories, so I just felt suddenly like reviewing this.
I think this is definitely something to watch, since I still remember it after like more than a decade.

| This is the first animeseries I ever saw, and I still love it. The story seems somewhat rusty now, and most of the sountrack is awful but the series's got it's archaic value. I allways liked greek mythology, and Saint Seiya really uses a lot of that.
My favorite character has allways been Shun.... That's right; the green haired guy with the pink armor. I was 10 years old, okay? And even though he doesn't often show a lot of strength of character, he's actually the most powerfull of the main characters. He just rarely shows his true strength.
