Based off of 9 episodes:

Good Witch of the West is one of the most unimpressive animes that try to do something unique or interesting. They include some political strife, romantic possibilities, fairy tale lore, noble versus commoner divide, as well as some sort of magic-like-role of modern technology. Despite how this may sound interesting, the WEAK character development and character base totally rips this anime apart. One thing to note: this more targeted towards the female audience (the central character is some damsel in distress type character). I believe that most males would be uninterested in this series.

The characters in this anime are horrible. None of them have really any dynamic quality to them - in other words, none of them are very realistic. Each character fits some sort of static mold (although not necessarily cookie-cutter), and hardly make any idealistic change throughout the series. Filiel (the main character) is some clueless girl tossed into the middle of another person's battle and it isn't until too late before she realizes that she has to grow up. Roux and all the other male interests are boring. Adale and Leandra... just pointless pawns. All in all, the characters are just what makes this anime a chore to watch.

I could review the storyline, and talk about Astrea, Ephemeris or whatever, but really... this is pointless when one views how horrible the characters are. Definitely not recommended.

Good Witch of the West is one series that incorporates many good elements of a basic plot. You have a solid group of characters, elements of a royal epic fantasy coupled with drama and intriguing displays of conspiracy and stigmatism, a lovely romance (coupled with some nice bishounen to boot ^_^), and a push for a "save the world, believe in the power of humanity" perspective. The problem? The series tries to do, and explain, too much in the span of its 13 episodes. Many interesting plot points are given in the scheme of the series, but unfortunately, as soon as one element is introduced, another takes its place before the other can be properly expanded upon and the brilliant presentation of the beginning is somewhat scarred by the rushed, inept conclusion. Nevertheless, "Good Witch of the West" entertained me from the first up until the last few episodes. I have to say, the set-up in the first half really outweighs the ending by a long stretch, because of its ties within royal fantasy, romance, and strong character assertions to start.

Animation is probably along the lines of what anime series should be in contemporary perspectives. There are a few excellent pieces of music in the backdrop of this anime coupled with a number of them that are a bit above average. Voice acting is very good and consistent with each of the characters. Characters begin with good construction and are somewhat shortchanged toward the end of the series, yet it's not something by which that I was deterred. Story is presented in an epic, well-to-do fashion with mystical undertones, yet doesn't completely meet that standard when wrapping itself into its conclusion.

If only this series had a bit more expansion (or were more toned in its progression), I think we could have seen more of the fruits that Good Witch of the West had to offer. Nonetheless, it's worth seeing at least once.

I was excited to see every single episode get subbed and released. The animation suited my tastes, being very pretty and cute. There was a lot of confusion in the story, with little blanks here and there that leave you wondering what they were going to say, but stopped saying.

The opening and ending songs are okay, not the best songs to go with this anime in my opinion. Although I especially liked the lute that Bard played.

The story progresses quite well, but in a certain episode there's Bard...and someone that looks like Bard...and they're two different people but they look very much alike. I didn't understand this part..maybe I missed some part of the anime?

Overall I enjoyed this anime a lot, though it could have been better and more than 13 episodes. In my opinion, the ending came too soon and abruptly.
