| The Girl who leaps through time. A beautifully sculpted piece:
First off let me talk of this movie's sheer impressive quality. The animation is downright beautiful and consistent throughout. In addition, the music is wonderful, and immerses you into the world of the anime.
I watched this film with a bit of skepticism, because it seemed a little 'not my genre'. However, I have to say, I leave quite impressed. Would I say this was great and recommend it to friends. YES. However, would I say this was an 'A' movie, that sits in my list of favorites. I would say no.
There are a few 'subjective-flaws' with this piece, that left me with more to be desired. To be fair, this was a movie, and they only have about two hours to work with. I do feel, however, there were some issues that kept me from feeling awed.
The main problem was probably the conclusion and story 'overall message'. I would hardly say this anime was anticlimactic. Remember, these are NOT major flaws. However, I felt them pricking at me from saying this was an AWESOME anime piece. What exactly was the message? That humans shouldn't travel through time, like the movie "Click"?. Hardly, because throughout the film time travel is used extensively in a helpful manner. To avoid spoilers, you'll have to watch to see what I mean by that.
A problem for me was also the character development with the 'two mains'. I felt a 'tinge' of "Kimi ga Nozomu Eien syndrome" when the characters started to have a relationship that I felt was not fully fleshed out. I guess you could say, this was a great movie, but not a masterpiece. The orchestration of SOME elements felt a bit forced, like tear-jerking. In short, some of the events that went on in the film felt a bit 'unbelievable and unconvincing'. It is in this way the film felt a little short.
Overall, however, this is recommended for viewing. The great animation and sound, and overall storyline provide some great fun entertainment. Though I conclude not great meaning can be derived from the message, it's a blast of fun and at many times, the movie avoids "I could've gone wrong here"--stereotypical directions, and surprises the skeptical viewer.
A good piece! But a bit short from being great.

| Toki wo Kakeru shoujo is an anime movie centered around a teenage girl who is forced to realize what exactly is the border between friendship and love. To spice things up and make the show, like, ten times more interesting a half sci-fi half fantasy idea of time leaping is added. Makoto comes to realize new things about both the "fixed" flow of world's events and her friends' various attitudes by reliving the same moment for many times.
Even though the story doesn't live up full to its real potential, nor the short time of movie is used with 100% efficiency, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo still has a plot which should pick up interest of pretty much any viewer. I mean, isn't it extremely cool to be able to reset everything you've done? Also, whenever the plot grows slow, very detailed characters are sure to not let you get bored.
Yearning for a good evening watch? Give Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo a shot, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by this show. Really.

| A truly wonderful movie that mixes the theme of school life with Sci-Fi very well and covers a very wide range of emotions beautifuly.
I liked the art style as the director decided to use flat colors with wonderful backgrounds to give the movie a unique look .. and also i noticed that the animation was top notch as well.
The story and characters are the highlight here ... they just are quite unique and interesting .... and the ending is really satisfying and wasn't rushed (the ending got a little bit anti-climatic but not enough to ruin it )
Recommend to any one even remotly interested in anime .. a wonderful movie to watch ^_^

| Tales of Earthsea may have been the hyped anime movie of 2006, but this blows it out of the water in terms of quality. My own personal fascination with the concept of time travel aside, this is a must see for anybody.

| A Girl Who Runs Through Time is a 100 minute long high quality science fiction movie set in a school life theme by Madhouse Production released in 2006, containing adventure, romance, and a number of very interesting twists.
A Girl Who Runs Through Time has the quality and detail in its designs and animation as one would expect from an anime movie released in 2006. The character designs look simple, but fit in extremely well. The background animation and designs, and a number of small character animations, contain a very high degree of detail and are charming to behold. This movie will therefore not disappoint viewers in terms of graphics and animation.
The voice acting in A Girl Who Runs Through Time is excellent. They fit extremely well with the characters, and although they might sound out of place initially, viewers will easily adapt after the first few minutes. The background music blends in very well with the scenes creating an enhancing effect. The only theme song, namely the ending theme, is good to listen to, but not too memorable. Nevertheless, the quality of the voice acting is definitely a noteworthy attribute of this movie.
A Girl Who Runs Through Time has an extremely interesting storyline which covers a range of themes and contains a number of twists. The execution and setting of the story is what differentiates this movie from a number of similar movies, anime or not, by portraying impossible events in a realistic and believable way. Although the ending might not be ideal for many viewers, it is by no means disappointing.
With top quality voice acting, the characters in A Girl Who Runs Through Time appear to handle situations in very rational ways. The highly detailed animation make the characters seem very realistic, which in turn makes the movie very fun to watch. Character development is practically non-existent, but that fact does not handicap this movie at all.
A Girl Who Runs Through Time is a very enjoyable anime for anyone who appreciates a good storyline. Its animation, voice acting, characters and storyline are very impressive, making it a movie that is definitely worth checking out.

| A rather enjoyable movie (still not as much as the movie "Click") that blends together all successful aspects of Japanese animation and turns out memorable indeed.
Now the movie is far from perfect. I admit that had I not taken a break and go to sleep around the middle of the movie I would have found the movie more boring and unwatchable.
As for the characters, except the main protagonist the others were hardly worth remembering, even if around the end another key character appears.
But if you ignore all this trifles and go to watch a movie for the animation, you will not be disappointed. Animation and sound reach new standards and this movie is worth a cinema release abroad. Still now with HD it will be a better experience.
As for the story I cant judge from only one movie but it does not turn very boring.
From the crop of 2006 anime movies this belongs to the best I've seen.
I just felt that they could have used animation and time a little better and not only in the final sequence. It didnt reach the sort of magic works with much lower budget did, like "Glassy Ocean". And it is not as good as my favorite movie of that kind, namely "The Cat Returns".
Ghibili influences are present but this movie stands on its own.
I'd rewatch it any time

| I think this anime Strongly lives up to its hyped-ness. Very Philosophical, & Dramatic despite the main character being a happy-go-lucky energetic girl. Toki wo Kakeru Shojo Strongly deals with about the Consequences that comes along when one uses a certain power for their own selves... & It Definitely Got its Message across, Makoto Learns her Lesson the hard, Painful Way as she played with her power...
One of the reasons why Toki wo Kakeru Shojo is a Really Good Anime, is firstly, its animation. The Sceneries are Beautiful, The Character Designs are Well Done, & the Animation is Nice & Smooth. Could Anyone Complain?! I Think a Lot of Effort & Money has been put into this, Just looking at the extremely long list of names of the staff that worked on this movie in AnimeNewsNetwork... One could easily tell this anime had Lots of Budget. x)
Sounds? Nothing to complain either. The Seiyuus did a Really Great Job. Nice Theme Song. OSTs are Great. Gee, i can't find any flaws... =O
Now the Story... Well, the heroine, Makoto, Lively & Energetic with her 2 best friends, Chiaki & Kousuke. Live their High School Lives happily, doing things together. One Day, Makoto suddenly realises she had the power of "time leap", to go back into time, reseting everything she did wrong, all for herself.
We see that Makoto is what one might call an extremely thick-headed and immature female. & Yes, she is. She visits her aunt at a museum from time to time, and her aunt is quite the opposite of her. Not very outspoken but very wise indeed, advicing Makoto about the consequences of abusing her power for her selfish purposes.
"When you're Enjoying yourself, doesn't that mean somebody else is suffering as a Result?"
A Very Wise Sentence indeed which doesn't mean a thing to Makoto at first. As time passes & as Makoto uses her power more and more for her own purposes, that sentence begins to ring something in her thick-headed skull. She realises that she uses her power to run away from things she does not want to face, & realises the pain and consequences of trying to change her past.
Even though Chiaki & Kousuke were always there with Makoto, they became secondary characters as the movie went on, because of the way Makoto used her powers. & Throughout the movie, Makoto faces Pain & Heartbreaks, & starts to Mature & Understand that she shouldn't have abused her powers like what she had been doing.
Yes, Makoto Learns her Lesson through the Hard, Painful Way. & The Character of Makoto Developing as the movie kept going on, More & More. Though i don't really think this anime is classified as "slice-of-life", but definitely in some way, Toki wo Kakeru Shojo Teaches a VERY VALUABLE Lesson about the Consequences of Changing One's Past. & The consequences are very "slice-of-life" kind, in my opinion.
Even though Makoto was basically the main character of the movie, but the other 2 characters, Chiaki & Sousuke, even though they had seemed to become secondary characters as the movie progressed, The Closeness of the Trio could Be Seen & It was a Very Nice Feeling to see the Closeness of their bonds, and how their presence had affected Makoto's decisions a Lot.
It Was Definitely Full of Surprises. Even though Makoto had gone back in time numerous times, there was Always something that would've gone wrong or turn out differently than expected, which resulted in a big Surprise & Makoto using her Power MORE to reverse her actions... & Makoto, despite having a lively energetic character which some people might not have, but she's Still an Extremely Relatable Character & her Emotions & Actions are Understandable.
Despite the fact that the movie didn't end the way that I had wanted it to end. Well, it's science-fiction, but the drama of the reality that Makoto has to face was Really Great. The Movie didn't end the way I wanted it to End...T_T... BUt It had a somewhat of a Happy Ending anyway.
BUT I JUST CAN't HELP CRYING Because of What Makoto had to go Through... ='( Toki wo Kakeru Shojo HAD SO MUCH DRAMA & EMOTIONS IN IT, Without Realising it, I Had Grown SO ATTACHEd to Makoto in Just 1 and a half hours?!
I Have to Say that Toki wo Kakeru Shojo is a REALLY GREAT Anime Movie & DEfinitely Deserves a Watch. Even if you aren't interested in genres of going back in time, well, this movie has Very Good Lessons about Life anyway, & how in general, power should never be abused for selfish purposes...
I'm sure the Author of the Original Novel Had Put A LOT of thought into this WHOLE Storyline, & I Have to say, that He did a REALLY GREAT JOB~! Cause this Movie is ONE OF THE BEST ANIME MOVIES I'VE SEEN~! EVER~!
Up Until now, I still feel the sadness and powers of the drama in the movie. It's SO Darn Sad. T_T... maybe it's kinda cause Chiaki reminds me of Yano in Bokura ga Ita, & I kinda subconciously connect the 2 of them together, and i'm having the same feeling of being hooked to this movie just as i was hooked to Bokura ga Ita... =O ...
I probably wished for a happier ending, but the way it ended wasn't too bad either & it was probably for the best. sooo, i guess i shouldn't have anything to complain. Or maybe, the only complaint i have is, I WANT MORE~! T_T...

| Time waits for no one...
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) is a pleasant story about a good-natured high school girl, Makoto, and her adventures with her newfound power. With it, she relives a week's worth of her life, trying to fix what went wrong and fulfilling life to the max as possible. Unfortunately, with great power comes dire consequences...
In any case, this movie is superb, for the fact that I watched this at a good time of a day that I didn't want to stop when I had to go out in the middle of the film, and that the right characters were portrayed in using this power. Friendships were spot-on believable from the first minutes; each leap's quirks grew more interesting and suspenseful by the leaps; a drawn-out but fine resolution ended the film on a spectacular note, leaving much to be desired (a good rewatch a couple months later :D).
The first half of the film concentrates on Makoto's adventures with what the chestnut did to her arm - 99 chances to time leap and have fun for the week she kept replaying over and over again. Each deja vu feels fresh (if only because the situations change each time, and for the funnier and sadder), and each leap rises to a higher stage of momentum and emotions, until finally her fun breaks the wall between her and the ocean below the cliff. Though there might not be any high levels of action, each consequence is quite the emotional-mover, never once letting up on it's climb to the top of that cliff.
And so the second part of the story deals with the now-built-up dynamics between the main characters, and allows for, even though it took 30 minutes, a resolve of mysteries and relationships, sort of like saving the fallen with a rope from the cliff, though in no means is it the bad kind of "rescue operation". However, I did find the second part a tad on the boring side, but I recognize it for it being so good I can just let that slide and let it seep through my brain memorably.
There's only one piece of mystery remaining: Makoto's aunt. Since this is based off a novel, I suppose the answer is in that, so go look for it by yourself.
Truly, the movie is spectacularily epic, and people should waste no time to go see this movie! This movie will wait for no one!

| I watched this movie with extremely high expectations - many of my friends had recommended it, and there was such a raving buzz about it before it was released. In the end, I was not disappointed - it fulfilled its purpose of entertaining me, making me anticipate the next plot events and have me ponder about the little details in the story line.
Toki wo kakeru shoujo's main appeal is how its story revolves around 'time leaping'. Imagine walking through the path of life: everytime you reach a fork in the road, you have to make a choice. In life, you are not able to go back to the fork. However, what if you can? The fact that this movie tackles this topic allows for a wide range of possibilities. However, instead of revolving around philosophical debates or quandaries, the story follows some airheaded naive girl who rather go back in time so that she can eat that pudding her little sister ate.
To put it simply, TwKS is an anime you enjoy and not analyze. The characters are only 'there for the moment' and not very life-like. There are essentially 3 characters: 1) the ditzy naive girl 2) the big brother character 3) the pubescent boy who likes #1. I remember NONE of their names, because it really isn't important. TwKS is a very generalized anime that attempts to speak to the audience as a whole, rather than tell the personalized story of this trio. By mixing in the cause and effect consequences of this girl's actions and showing us both the hilarious and dramatic results, TwKS takes the stance that it is just impossible to know the results of our actions definitely. Instead, we should just stick to our choices and live with them.
In an attempt to explain the pretext of the story, the last bit of this movie takes a dramatic turn quite different from the beginning's pacing. This is part of the story that I did not really care much for. It wasn't detrimental to the overall movie; I kind of expected something odd would have to happen in order to explain everything and TwKS did a decent job in allowing this logical flow that allowed the girl to time leap.
Mainly guided by the energetic and "leap before you look" attitude of the main female character, TwKS allows you to laugh at the funny parts and gasp in anticipation at the dramatic tense parts. Neither the background story (the pretext) nor the characters are very memorable, original or impressive BUT the overall package was quite enjoyable.

| A few minutes ago, I finished watching this very hyped film, wich I was saving for a time where I had enough free time (Summer break starts today)so I coul watch it in peace; i'd read reviews prior to watching it, and even though every one of them praised it most said the movie "derails" in the last third; I was waiting for this to happen, but I finished the movie never finding that moment; people complain about some elements of the story not being fully explained o being to silly or random, but I found more information completely unnecessary; the story was great as it was, the pacing nice, and though I didn't get a perfect happy ending, the one I got was enough pretty nice.
The story in a nutshell, is about a bouncy high school girl, Makoto and her two best friends Chiaki and Kousuke; she suddenly gets the power to jump through time during an accident where she should've died, and after that she begins using her newfound power to fix minor things in her life, until she realized the real extent of what she's doing and the reason she got her power.
The character development is great, and the characters themselves are extremely likeable, even secondary ones like the junior high trio; Makoto and Chiaki are extremely attractive characters on screen and the actors have great chemistry.
The animation is flawless and has great ambience and charisma; it's an extremely beutiful film to watch; the music is pretty nice and laid back most of the time, though it's not as memorable as other aspects of the movie.
In the end this is a wonderfull movie I cannot reccomed enough; it's intelligent and pretty, but most of all, it's inspiring and uplifting, and even though some minor plots aren't resolved, I find them irrelavnt in contrast to the total weight of the movie and it's message.

| As much as I wanted to enjoy this movie, I had to fight the whole way through just to stay awake. While it's not particularly bad, it just lacked any means for catching my interest. In many ways it felt like a longer version of Hourglass of Summer, though the characters weren't quite as flat...save the main character. I didn't really care for her.
Animation is decent for a movie, but it could have been better. Character designs lacked detail, especially facial expressions, and they seemed at many times emotionless despite the obvious emotional tones in the dialogue. Backgrounds and scenery didn't especially stand out either, which I think could have been improved since the same scenes were recycled throughout the movie (due to time hopping of course.) The actual animation quality is above par, however, so I guess that's a plus. All in all, though, I wasn't impressed.
Fortunately there was a lot of nice background music, and that's probably what kept me from falling asleep. There were a lot of slow, relaxing tracks that had nice melodies which gave the movie a very casual feel. I'm not sure this is quite the mood it was aiming for, though, as many events happen that imply, but don't convey, angst or tension. Aside from that the song during the closing credits was somewhat poignant, though not all that memorable. The Seiyuu wasn't impressive either but did the trick. Not much else to note here; could have been better, could have been worse.
The story has an interesting premise, however, even if not all too original. Basically our heroine acquires the ability to go back in time and begins by using the power rather casually -- going back to do better on a test, for example. However, she soon realizes that even such minor deviations create situations she does not desire; she of course continues to try to go back and time and correct these mishaps. Again, it reminded me a lot of Hourglass of Summer, but not quite as stupid with e-cup aliens floating around a dolt of a main character. Again, it's an interesting idea, but I just never felt too involved. Like other time hopping series, this movie began to drag rather quickly and never pulled me back in all the way, though it made a good attempt toward the latter half of its duration.
As for characters, I don't even really remember the main character's name. Konno or something I think, but I'm not sure. Chiaki and Kousuke were much more memorable. As a lead I just found her incredibly boring, especially since they try to make every character in the movie involved in some sort of romance with her as a mediator. She wasn't bad, just bland, and as such I had a hard time really caring for what was going on since it all revolves around her.
Overall, could have been better. It was alright for a movie but nothing spectacular. It only takes an hour and a half to watch, though, and I would say it's worth once through. The second half of the movie wasn't too bad and actually caught my interest for quite a bit. Making it through the first thirty minutes was the hardest part, but I don't regret watching it; a decent production.
Recommended.

| Makoto suddenly comes across the ability to turn back time as she pleases. As any young high school girl would be, she's freaked out at first. Once she gets used to it though, she begins enjoying it. There is, after all, no limit to what she can do with such a power. Again, being a regular high school girl, she seems to use it to solve her social problems only.
The story is divided into two parts. The first is mostly her dealing with her life using these powers. She corrects embarrassments, helps her friends in their love confessions, and other normal day to day things. The second part of the story involves the origin of her powers, and as usual, love.
Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is enormously fun in the first half. Makoto is an amusing, and extraordinarily believable character as far as anime is concerned. Watching her turn back time just to eat last night's food is both cute and amusing.
The second half puts a more serious tone into the movie, and twists the regular high school mood into something dramatic on an epic scale, not unlike a lot of Ghibli films.
My only real complaint is that the story kicks in a little too late for a 2 hour feature. Not only is the concept worthy and entertaining in and of itself, it's blended with beautifully smooth animation, a good chunk of cuteness, and a more believable main character than any i can remember from anime. I found the romance a little too big a plot element considering it's not that developed.
With a good part fun and drama, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo is an easy watch for anyone.

| If people truly had the power to go back in time to change something about their experiences they didn't like, they'd do so with no strings attached and in a split heartbeat second. Wouldn't there be a catch, you might ask? Of course, because if you change the past at a certain point, the future's bound to change. Yet, what if you could remember everything you changed....would it affect the way you look at the changed future?
Even further, with changing the future, as one of the characters in this movie points out rather potently: "With changing the future, there's someone else who could be hurt by the change."
Konno Makoto's one carefree girl with not a chip on her shoulder or a bit of bad luck...save for a rather oddball day at school....it's also that same day she acquires a rather interesting ability: the power to leap through time. She certainly milks the opportunity when she realizes her...well...good and not so good fortune--I say that with the biggest smile on my face. :)
Yet, as Makoto realizes, playing with time can have some serious consequences, not only with the situations that come to pass but also involving the friends she's come to know and love.
I cannot say in words really how much I enjoyed Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, translated as "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time"...really it's one of the best I've seen in a long while, especially of an anime movie. The characters are rather likable and the storyline is enchantingly romantic, sad, and yet cheerful and funny in a collective sense. Er...I really do plead the fifth when it came to my reactions in some of the scenes of this movie.
Animation standards are rather good for this movie on the whole, from the coloring to the design of the characters. Music is primarily composed of rather lovely instrumental themes and a nice insert and ending theme to boot. The overall presentation of the story of Makoto's attempts in changing time and the presentation of her peers proves quite well done. I would definitely rank this as one of my favorite anime movies to date and I'd cede a high recommendation for it.
Simply a beautiful film.
