| Well I didn't know if I should watch this at first, because this would have been my first time watching a Yuri genre. But then i said what the heck let me experience this for the first time. After watching this I'm still not sure if this anime is like the other Yuri animes, because of the story. However the main character Mizuho did show me what a Yuri anime can do. Well I thought that Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru was pretty decent. My thought on how the story developed was pretty stupid yet funny at the same time. I mean seriously your grandpa's will is to send you to an all girl school. Yes you who is a guy. I thought that was funny but what was stupid though was allowing that to happen. I believe though his grandpa was just hoping that his grandson would graduate the same school as his mother did. Of course he refused at first but the ending just made me think he's going to stay a girl forever. Even though the story was somewhat weird at first, but I did enjoy this quite fairly so i would recommend this to anyone.

| If you try to tell the story told many times before, you are making your way through a very dense and big forest. One bad step and your story will be lost, among all others, that were equally uninteresting.
Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru tells a story of a male forced to crossdress due to his grandfather's will, ordering him to attend to all-girls school.
While premise sounds like that of a comedy, and based on the settings and characters I'd say it's definitely based on some H-game, the way they approached it made me feel like I was watching some shoujo anime.
There are few reasons for it. Mizuho is almost NEVER seen as a guy. If it wasn't for my reminding myself about it and some of the comments (pretty seldom comments, mind you) about it, I could have well forgot that's the case. Everybody who's aware of the masquerade is ok with it. Principal, teacher, other girls, everybody think it's fun.
It's not fun. It's weird. It can backfire on the lad, it can backfire on everybody involved, if the lad hasn't got strong enough psyche but that's never even mentioned.
And that is, where I realized, what Otome... is. It's lighthearted comedy where a guy turns out to be a dashing woman that will remind avid anime fans of Oscar from Rose of Versailles, that will capture the hearts of nearly every girl in the school, and still be a man under feminine look.
There isn't any need to tell some story, to focus on some plot or to achieve one of the game endings. The episodes are let loose, connection is in chronology, but there is no main story, character development is barely budding if anything, and main purpose of the show is to make you feel warm, fuzzy and fluffy. Come on, you can't expect this show to be serious, if they've thrown in a ghost just for the thrill of having it.
Mizuho is likeable all through, unlike some harem leads he has this bit of spine and resolve that characterizes human being, he's nice, kind and all that (which of course makes at least two girls to fall for him and few more to have a soft spot for him). Problems he is facing include whether the ribbon should be allowed or not, that he is nominated for an Elder (most popular, womanly, beautiful, elegant and wise student) and the other person is the school president, that one girl looses her confidence and thinks of quitting her club, that ghost appears that has unfinished business... etc. Throw in romance plot, high school settings, tiny bit of fan-service, forgettable soundtrack (coming together with plushy op sequence) and nice animation, though nothing really special.
Yes, that's all to Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru. I managed to smile a bit, laugh from time to time, I had this fuzzy feeling at few declarations and I'll undoubtedly forget this, because there's no substance in it. Perhaps the game was better?

| Based off of 5 episodes:
Basically, a very feminine mannered boy dresses up as a girl and attends an all-girl school in order to learn more about his deceased mother. As he encounters the various students in school, he learns more about her mother's own experience.
It is very slow to watch this anime. It took many days just to get through 5 episodes. None of the characters stand out, and some are extremely easily forgettable. The main character himself is just one sack of 'well-mannered refined niceness'. As a result of no real internal or external conflict, none of the character interactions are really that interesting. The true weakness of this anime is how none of the characters ever really matter or grow on you. The scope of their relationship is just so shallow. Too much time is spent on Mizuho trying to be a girl, and it really isn't that interesting.
Storywise, again, nothing too impressive. It is kind of funny how a guy becomes the 'supreme female idol' of the school, but other than that there's no real intriguing plot points. They also throw in a ghost, which makes this anime supernatural and hence even more discredited. There's no point in putting that ghost in ... so why?
Anyway, I really found no interest in continuing this anime. I tried and resumed over 3 times on 3 separate occasions. Finally, the 5th episode just got too off track of the usual 'fun' pace and I got bored. Not recommended.

| this anime is just bad, so there's not much point watching this since there are much better animes out there.
it has no originality, charm, anything that makes it even average.
there's just some cheap ecchi, unrealstic characters acting unrealistc all for the sake of ecchi...
recommended only if you just want to see some fan-service... that's all it has... sadly
much better animes out there...
funnier animes: akazukin cha cha, kodomo no omocha, gakuen alice, ouran high school host club, battle athletes victory!, melancholy of haruhi suzumiya, saber marionette J, Super GALS!, Pretear
for real romance: full moon wo sagashite, kare kano

| + Uplifting, happy, funny. Hardly any conflict.
+ Attractive character designs.
+ Good voice work.
- Gimmick not exploited enough for comedy.
- Doesn't do anything particularly well, inconsistent in: fanservice, comedy, drama.
An unusual pseudo-yuri show where the catch is a guy needs to cross-dress and attend an all-girl school. Then all the girls proceed to fall for "her". While this would seem like a great chance to deliver lots of laughs and/or fanservice, neither expectation is really met. It's simply entertaining to watch, although it's hard to specify what exactly is the reason.

| Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru is a good anime. (Wow, that's such a long anime title) The anime says it's a girlxgirl anime, but I didn't see any girlxgirl in this anime. Don't be fooled by the animenfo picture. Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru is personally one of my favorite animes of 2006. And looks really similar to Ouran High School Host Club, but it's just the opposite. Instead it's a boy that dresses as a girl.
Pretty animations for an anime in 2006. Animations and character designs are wonderful and the girls (and a few male characters later in the episodes) look really good.
OP and ED are really fun to listen to. The animations during those times are really bright and colorful. The background music is also wonderful. (I really like the sad music in this anime, it was really sad and peacefully in a good way) Character voices were good as well.
Mizuho is going to an all girls school, but there is one problem. Mizuho is a GUY! So he dresses as a girl to attend the school and a comedy oddball starts. But also a love-romance starts with all the characters and the anime is really cute with wonderful characters and animations.
The characters are really cute and each have a back story to them. Back stories are explained very well and you can feel the sadness or joy of the stories. The main character is also as loveable as the entire cast. Mizuho is wonderful, but he seems more girly then the other ACTUAL GIRLS! So to me I keep thinking Mizuho is a girl, but when they refer to her as a boy. I go OH YEAH!! SHE IS A HE!!!
One of the best animes that is only 12 episodes long. Most 12 episode animes seem to be missing something, but Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru is different from the rest. It's a fun filled anime with comedy and love-romance.
Fun in the beginning for like the first six episodes. Gets sort of serious in the later part of the anime. (From episode seven and after)

| What's the point of putting a guy in a girls' school when he's more feminine then them? To teach a lesson in male supremacy of course! A guy can make a better girl than girls!

^^;
Seriously, Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru is quite a warm-hearted show of friendship and troubles.
So, our hero Mizuho is put to a girls' school because of the last wish of his grandfather. Crazy grandfathers in Japan. His ally is his childhood friend Mariya, a student of the same school, who helps him transform into a girl (quite easy because he looks and sounds like a girl, all that is needed is fake breasts, a skirt and some makeup). All the worries about he getting exposed quickly vanish as Mizuho's beauty and kindness earn her the title of the most admired girl in the school, Oneesama. Rest of the series is about different girls Mizuho meets, about their problems and how Mizuho helps them.
While the story is simple enough and doesn't take much advantage of Mizuho being a guy, the other characters are varied enough to keep me interested. Starting with Mariya, she has some problems over how the clumsy Mizuho, who always relied on her, becomes the queen of the school. When everyone admires her, some sleeping feelings wake inside her. Mizuho is of course thick-headed enough not to notice anything. The second interesting case is the school council president Takako who sees a new transfer student being a threat to the traditional school. But leave it to Mizuho's kindness and openness to melt the otherwise cold work maniac. There are a couple of others too, who have to deal with the confusing discovery of who they really are or the pits of doubting oneself. Or the fact they have died a long time ago... yeah, the series is pretty weird sometimes. All in all, I liked the circle friends that forms around Mizuho. The characters are likable even with annoying little girl treats and the series squezes some nice drama out of them. Their development during all this is quite evident.
There aren't any major problems with the series. There's humor involved and though it isn't gut ripping, it's fun enough to light the mood after some heavy pondering. These scenes are often accompanied by some of the most ugly chibi characters I've seen. Stiill, they kind of work anyway. The animation is ok too. Character designs look appealing and the school looks like an old prestigious school. Sound department is probably the weakest link as the opening and ending songs aren't that impressive nor is the background music. There are some annoying voice actors, especially with the younger girls. But you can live with these faults.
Too bad that, after everything, the characters of Otoboku just don't have the charisma to make me care about them instead of being interested in them. After watching the last episode, I felt satisfied over the nice relationship and characters, but I didn't feel like anything in the series had really moved me. Anyway, though Otoboku doesn't hit the bull's eye, it's still a good watch.
