While in the hospital, he meets Akiba Reika, a teenager that is a bit embittered by the heart condition she has. | Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora has a promising synopsis and a decent start for a dramatic story. In the end,it concluded averagely. It wasn't touching at all ever since the first episode when the night scenery and storyline caught me in.
However,it could have been worse if not for its
OP and ED which left a deep impression to start and finish an anime.

| Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora, a Pretty Short Anime with a Pretty Long Name. With only 6 episodes & Very High Ratings, I HAD to try HanTsuki out to see what was sooo great about it. x)
Firstly, the Animation is pretty and well done. Character designs are decent but nothing extremely fancy. Of course, you don't expect extremely fancy-looking characters in a hospital, do you? the sceneries and everything was pretty nice, as expected of a 2006 anime. =)
Sounds? The First time I heard the Opening theme, I felt attracted to the melody instantly. A Very Nice Opening Theme and the melody is still able to control my feelings. The Ending theme is a pretty nice song performed by the same singer as the OP theme... Seiyuus did a GReaT Job. Also a Must Note : Rika is voiced by the same seiyuu as Yamada Ayumi from Honey & Clover. =)
What about the story... The story is pretty different from all the other animes you've seen around. So basically, setting in a hospital and having the main characters as young patients who have sooo much potential in the future. A Not-so-sick Guy meets an Extremely Selfish Girl of the same age as him, and they start to get along despite her eccentric personality. However, it is later discovered that she truly is in a serious condition, and might not have long to live...
HanTsuki starts off with the forming of Yuuichi & Rika's forming of their friendship and perhaps, love? & they have fun, meeting more people, and doing random things, and constantly talking about the literature that Rika has read before. Usually, quoting lines from those literatures and pretending as though they're the characters... Having the Daily-Life Fun & Comedy ...
At the Last 2 episodes, the climax happens, What will happen to Rika? Will Rika Survive and Live On? I have to say that based on the reality of the situation in HanTsuki, it isn't a very happy situation... But the way that HanTsuki had Made the Ending a Happy Ending. It was a Happy Satisfying Ending, in my opinion...
Yuuichi & Rika were both developed quite a bit because they're the two main characters, the supporting characters weren't developed as much, but were there to make the story move along and seem normal. I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't be a problem if they had stretched HanTsuki Longer & gave more time for Even MORE Development of the characters and for the viewers to grow even MORE Attached to them...
Basically, Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora is just a short 6 Episode Drama Anime that is different from most of the other dramatic animes you've watched, probably. Being a bit Different, but still having some Very Dramatic & Emotional Aspects & Values to make you shed a tear or two...
I Have to admit that HanTsuki is a Gem. I was Touched a lot, even though i didn't cry, though i should. <_< It's not the most Dramatic Anime around, but it's Definitely Worth a Watch & Worth your time if you're into drama animes and you want something short and sweet. =)

| Looking up at the Half-Moon is a boy meets girl romance anime set in a hospital. Yuichi, the male lead, has a somewhat crippling, but not life threatening disease, while Rika, the female lead, isn't sure how much longer she'll live. When Yuichi tries to sneak out of the boredom of his hospital room, his violent nurse is quick to discipline him. Yuichi is also troubled by a sadistic doctor who enjoys getting between him and his love interest.
This anime really reminds me of KGNE in its TV drama / soap opera like premise. One of the two lovers probably doesn't have long to live, but they'll love each other anyway. It's also filled with the same hyper-emphasized drama, even when the scenario is hardly dramatic. A lot of the characters feel unnatural and corny because they're all drama queens. But if you do happen to enjoy this brand of drama, there are plenty of screams of sorrow into the night sky.
A lot of the melodrama drowns out the love story. The development of Yuichi and Rika's relationship is weak and not really engrossing. The anime doesn't do a particularly good job in the romance department. It doesn't express the love the two share in a convincing manner.
Overall, this seems like B-rate soap opera material with over expressive characters, and something of a weak story. While it managed to jerk a tear from me once or twice, Looking up at the Half Moon just feels empty most of the time. Its slice of life elements aren't relatable or interesting, its romance isn't well developed, and its drama is just over the top.

| One day you would learn that you're about to die, that you have a sickness, which curability likelihood is as good as non existant. But even though your death might be close already, it doesn't mean you have already died. Can you spend your remaining days happily, loving somebody or being loved by someone? But isn't love in such situation a sin, forcing the leftover person to agonize until his own death?
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora is a good show. While not really spectacular or astounding, it pretty much succeeds in everything it tries or wants to do. The story while not overly complex manages to tie down viewer to the computer screen for its entire running time. Characters aren't weak either, while supporting cast isn't that strong, the main ones are the ones who really count, and they are good.
If you're up for some subtle and melancholical romance then definitely give this show a shot. Now that I think about it it's probably one of the best shounen romance shows I have seen lately. If you've liked Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora I would sincerily recommend reading "Narcissu" visual novel.

| The setting of a hospital. The scent of death lingers in the area, waiting to swallow anyone that no longer has the vitality to carry on. Some are carried away by the death maker with tons of regrets while some die peacefully. The half-moon continues to hang in the balance, as the people from the hospital look at it, hoping that one day, it will shine its rays of light onto them.
The dream feels so far, yet so near. Will you risk your life for happiness? Will you continue moving forward on something that will not last? Is dying really that painful? How do you change when you realise that you are going to die and a glimpse of hope starts to appear when you are resigned to your fate?
These are the questions that will linger in your heart after you finish this series….
I have my reservations for the show, as I had read various uncomplimentary comments about the series being rather medicore. However, after watching it, what I got was a rather beautiful romance story that does well in its own context, even though it is not top-notch enough to touch the heart. The characters are usually the strong point in a romance series and I must say that the usage of imperfect leads is good for the story.
The undecided hearts, the confused minds of 17 year olds is captured in this episode and the fact that death and hope are a lingering point in this anime is a good addition to a simple story.
To add here before I start with touching the plot and characters of this series, I truly like the OP and ED of this series. For some reason, even though the amount of BG for the series is quite low, the OP is pretty touching and the flowing pictures of Rika gives a really nice setting for the start of Hanbun.
The ED as well has nice, beautiful scenes, with the climax of a fictional picture of Rika and Yuichi getting married. Whether it happens, I do not know and this is for you to find out when you get to watch it since my reviews are not meant to spoil others. There will be a minimal amount of spoilers and story detail, as you already know, if you read my other reviews.

| A short romance/drama ova series set in a hospital. This has its moments, but is guilty of trying too hard to create drama to the point that some bits are just terribly unreal. This is supposed to be a hospital, and yet the patients just gets to go and do whatever they please? If they're well enough to do that, why the hell are they still there taking up beds in the hospital?? Not only that, every seems to be able to do whatever they want without any consequences. Locking out an ill patient outside in the cold? Nooo problem. Abusive Doctors? That's okay too. It takes a hell of a lot just to get anyone to raise an eyebrow in this "loving and caring" hospital.
Other inexplicable elements include the random actions of the nurse's friend, who seem to have a touch of madness in her, and the random appearance of this Zebra mask character... but, if you can manage to sweep all these unrealistic elements into a dusty corner of your mind and ignore it, the rest of the drama element isn't too badly done.
It's a drama that has some pretty cheap plot devices. Thinking back on it, I think I actually enjoyed it more than i would have expected, considering all the contrived plot "twists".

| If you've watched dramas a soaps in the past, then you've probably seen something with the same idea as Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora. The story is something used quite a bit, but somehow it is still a very enjoyable watch. In an environment where all anime with some kind of love-romance theme has to either be a harem or have some other outrageous theme such as aliens or whatnot, this anime is definitely a fresh breeze of reality.

| I wouldn't call this a typical anime love story. I'd keep this anime from the romance genre altogether! No, don't confuse it with 'magical' and 'fantasy' romances that involve aliens (Onegai), childhood friends and other farfetched ideas (Ai Yori Aioshi) or magical girls (Da Capo/ Green Green). It's more of a breath of fresh air series that happens to have a strong love story.

| I actually really enjoyed this one very much. There were the sad moments and the funny ones, but all in all , it was really worth the watch. NOT one minute or second did I feel like i was forcing myself to watch it. Another thing , I`m a guy and I friggin dropped a tear over some sad scenes. Overall, this one was really good and will be a very nice addition to your "romance" collection.

| Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora is one of those animes that try to pack a whole bunch of drama into a short amount of time by appealing to primitive feelings one naturally feels when encountering ridiculous life and death situations. For people who love sentimental stories to use as catharsis, this will be okay. As long as you get absorbed into the whole melancholy atmosphere, this anime has its "good points".
I totally disliked this anime and found it to be boring and slow from start to finish. Not only are the characters ridiculously unrealistic, overdramatic, and one-dimensional, the whole unhealthy heart theme is probably the most overused sob story ever. It is ridiculous how fast things progress in the first episode - where about four emotional transitions occur in Rika alone - just so they can build some weak link between Yuuichi and Rika in the later episodes sooner. (Wouldn't it be just as effective to establish a strong ice breaker?)
The whole anime's setting is ridiculous as well- what kind of hospital is this? It isn't... it is a playground for a melancholy love story and emotional abuse where there is not a single normal character, a messed up nurse, an evil doctors with a horrid past, a weird friend, etc. I did not appreciate how everything was packed without allowing us to savor the characters on screen. It made me wonder, are the fleeting emotions that I felt because of some manipulated past experience being remembered or did I truly feel emotions for such an immature overemotional character main character - nah probably not, it was probably just some sort of sympathy for a weak, edge of death, cute female character.

| The only thing tragic in Hanbun no Tsuki no Gaga Bobo Sora is how messed up the hospital system seems to be in Japan. We have nurses who willingly abuse and verbally harass their patients, doctors with clear psychological problems beating the shit out of kids with hepatitis on the roof, and the sheets are air-dried which means the patients get plenty of new contagions to go around. Hospital security does not exist, which means that patients are free to sneak out and climb mountains and exacerbate their diseases. The doctors smoke on the premises, play with the emotions of their patients and even promote pornographic material.
Now really, if Hobo Dookie Bobobo Soso was trying to be an expose on the corruption of medical facilities in Tokyo, it would have succeeded fantastically. As it stands, however, it's just a cloying and generic melodrama with piss-weak characters and a lame, contrived plot just like we always see in these romantic OVAs. And when it actually IS trying to be funny, it is so self-aware and broad that anyone with an IQ of over 30 will groan in pain. The exposition isn't absolutely, irredeemably awful, but I finished the series 20 minutes ago and I still don't really care about anyone or anything in the anime. Ultimately, I'll have forgotten about this in a week; this series is a general waste of time.

| If Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien had a short story this would be it. Almost same setting, but unlike the patheticness story of both KGNE and Elfen Lied, this actually has some comedy and lightness to it.

| A terminal-illness fleeting borrowed-time romance anime (where have I seen this premise before? hmmm..a certain fan-translated visual novel comes to mind >P), I was having high expectations given this would be only 6 episodes, and they were met in spaces. Truly gives you a birds eye view of the feelings of two people with a keen idea of the possibility of death separating them. I cant give too much away in this review, but its hard not to. However, for those in the mood for a good cry, this is a great shorty drama. Better done than Iriya no Sora, which should have been better IMO.

| TOUCHING...
Overall, this is a quaint and very enjoyable story that really surprised me with its moments. Ultimately, this anime teaches a lesson about who we choose to care for, despite any obstacles that person might be facing. This show touches the heart, but given the subject matter, that is to be expected. This show, at a piddly six episodes, is a very low commitement, and could have easily been twice as long, but a great show is a great show. Either way, I recommend it.

| HTNS is a nice take on romance. It faires well in all categories, but this is one anime in which the message is more imporant than the story.
Having said that, there isn't any other reason for me to rate it so high...I mean, how much story does one expect in a serious anime with only six episodes?
This is not to say that HTNS is in any way pretentious. In fact, the anime doesn't waste time at all. There is hardly any going about or shyness between the main characters. It's a story where they learn to love eachother regardless of the time they have. There is really nothing more to it, but then again, in just six episodes, what can you expect. What it makes good is how the characters interact with another. The sidecharacters may be as dimensional as a dot, but the interaction of the main characters is good. Them learning the quality of time is well worked out.
On the other aspects, animation faired well. The character designs seemed all rather familiar, but there were no flaws or inconsistencies to be found.
Sound was about the same. Nothing bad, nothing special.
As for the value of HTNS, for six episodes, it was good, not highly rewatchable, but not soon to be forgotten either.
In conclusion, this is perfect anime for a rainy day. It doesn't take long to watch and it is by no means a waste of time. A nice romance, but not too creamy.
As a sidenote, I did wish for a 13+ ep series of HTNS. Just so it could at least have a love triangle and more sidecharacter depth After all, the basis of those elements is already in the anime. There is just not enough time to work them out.

| This can at best be compared to Paulo Colleho's "Veronika Decides To Die", only from the viewpoint of a male instead of the female who is critically ill. Hanbun (the name is too long, dont wanna write it) tells the story of a female who is going to die soon, and a male who falls in love with her. Both the leads are 17 year olds. While the plot is dead serious, there are parts of fun and very nice drama in between.

| It's great that this anime gives a fresh perspective, instead of the usual stereotype characters that most animes have.
The story itself if dragged any longer wouldn't have made much sense given the condition of Rika. Even though the story was pretty much predictable, it still made me want to find out what the ending was. The decisions that the main characters made were what really made me want to find out more.
The characters in the show are memorable, though I couldn't quite figure out why did Natsume sensei act like such a jackass.
The part about Tada's collection was really hilarious, the look on Yuuichi's face when Rika found out his stack of inherited porn magazines. I felt that the story was pretty bittersweet, given Rika's incurable condition, and the fact that Yuuichi still chose to be with her.
I thought that the scene when Yuuichi went to that model's house(can't recall her name) was pretty random, it didn't fit into the current situation of the story.
On to the sound, OP and ED was superb, it fitted well into the theme of the show. Somewhat upbeat yet at the same time makes you feel alittle sad and nostalgic.
Overall this anime is worth a rewatch, though some may say it's too dramatic and short.
