| There's something about Good Morning Althea that brings back memories. Whether it is the old school mecha space battle designs, the fact that their situation feels so much like ALIEN with such few survivors, or just how they're wandering around a ghost ship seems to make this anime peak my interest. Happy to say, just the mecha battles alone are enough to make any mecha fan happy.
I think what it comes down to is: this is a no nonsense space mecha action anime that gets straight to the heart of the matter. From destruction of their ship to the immediate decision to infiltrate the enemy ship to directly battling all these enemy mechas, Good Morning Althea does it all with flashy style battles and explosions. The main appeal to this OVA are the mecha designs. They're quite detailed and move quite nicely, especially for a 1987 production.
The characters personalities are pretty simplistic but likeable. We have a battle-hardened human who has grudges against the Crest race. Then we have two Crest people - one is a very capable warrior woman, the other an all-round nice guy. All together, they make up for an interesting team. Deep character relations and bonds? No need. But nevertheless, there are some decent character dialogues that balance out the action.
Despite the age, I found this to be pretty good. Intense mecha battles, with a very solid background setting.
