| I think most people/otakus would be lying if they said they don’t sometimes enjoy a good Americanized anime show every once in a while e.g. on cartoon network, 4kids.
Yu-Gi-Oh! In my personal opinion was one of the better translations and it has obviously done pretty well with merchandise and stuff. As a side note the actual game duel monsters is actually quite good and I have played a few on the PSP ports.
At this point in time I have seen ALL of the original series and am on the last season of GX (which is also half decent but not better than the original).
Animation
The animation is pretty good, as most fanboys probably noticed 4kids did some heavy editing on Yu-Gi-Oh! as the original Japanese version includes guns, knives and even blood! Character designs can often stand out erratically, from Yugis hairstyle, to mariks evil face. Monster card designs are pretty damn cool I must admit, some monsters just look real dangerous (slifer the sky dragon) and others look ridiculously pathetic (karibo) but its all appropriate.
Sound
Yu-Gi-Oh! Has some VERY humorous dialogue from various characters (Kaiba for example) which are provided by a good cast of English voice actors, this is the main reason why I think Yu-Gi-Oh1 did so well in the western part of the world, it all comes together fluently and easy to understand even during technical battle explanations. The English Opening “YOUR MOVE” was quite catchy as well.
Story
Yu-Gi-Oh! Had quite a good story to build from as an adventure type. You had a kid with a double personality which was actually a spirit looking for the millennium items and his own identity, These items could only be obtained by having a shadow duel and (depending on which version you want to believe the original Jap or 4kids) if you lose you basically die. LOL
The card game incorporated into the series (duel monsters) was one made of a combination including strategy, power, good luck and lol “the heart of the cards”. Almost each episode contained duels with the various monsters and magic different cards possessed. It was very interesting to watch and at times humorous. To think a card called toon baby dragon could beat black luster soldier thats Yu-Gi-Oh! For ya!
Character
Characters range from good guys to bad guys and there is hardly any between. I found most of the good guys where boring and kinda gay (in the uncool snse of the word). It was mostly the bad guys and the duels they provided what made the characters good. I mean Marik & Bakura were pure evil but their threats to peoples lives just made them more interesting. Pegasus was a joker, Kaiba was harsh and Joey Wheeler was just dumb lucky.
Enjoyment
I will say I thoroughly enjoyed watching Yu-Gi-Oh! As I felt it was very entertaining, had a half decent story and had an excellent GAME idea, unlike many other LAME Americanized Japanese anime e.g. monster rancher, Sharman king, beyblade etc. I felt Yu-Gi-Oh! actually made a good mark on the anime scene. Yes it had its downsides but overall it was enjoyable.
Please note I don’t really put these made for TV titles on the same level as the lets say more "collectable" series i tend
to look for and purchase.
Value
Value I believe is 50/50 because I feel like you would either like Yu-Gi-Oh! or hate it so I would have to let the viewer decide. Personally I think it is a good value series ESPICALLY for young adults & kids alike..once again that’s just my opinion.
8/10

| I am constantly annoyed by commercial anime. The only enjoyable on to me was Pokémon, but anything beyond Kanto is unwatchable.
The monster-fighting genre is really obnoxious since every series that has attempted it did it crappily or the series eventually decreased in enjoyment on its own. However, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters makes the flops of this genre seem like they have some merit.
Pokémon, Digimon, Monster Rancher, Medabots, Fighting Foodons, Duel Masters, Zatch Bell, etc. If you name it, odds are I've seen it. With the above series I can say at least one thing nice about each one. Yu-G-Oh! is probably one of the only few anime I can't compliment.
I've seen over 50 episodes, and all of them were torturous and monotonous. I question anyone's taste in anime if the enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters.

| I've seen a fair number of episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh. I just didn't find it all that fun to watch. My eight year old nephiew eats this up, I guess its ment for those little kids. The whole idea of using cards to fight is just stupid, I also hate card based RPG's. The story is just plain idiotic too. I think Pokemon is far better then this and more worth the watch. However that's not saying much. (I didn't watch every episode, I saw like 20, enough to know this show is sub-par.)

| The best anime for me!!! ever!!!
It has three series:
Yu-Gi-Oh! A Shadow Game (27 episodes)
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (224 episodes)
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX (on-going in Japan)
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Review:
This is a story of a young, game-playing 16-year old boy named Yugi Muto; who solved a 5000-year old egyptian puzzle (Millennium Puzzle). He awakens the soul of the "Nameless Pharaoh" the much more powerful version of himself and can unleas the Shadow Games!!!
When you watch this you'll fall in love with the characters!!

| It started out really cool at first, and as it dragged on, it just sucked ok? How the hell do you save the world through a card game? And everyone always believing in Yugi and him winning tough matches got old real fast. The animation is pretty interesting. The music was pretty good at first, but it was used excess. Overall, it's an ok anime.

| Note: I hope that the title Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters covers all the way to the last episode (200 something) otherwise I can't find the rest. =)
To me, Yu-Gi-Oh seems to be an anime of two extremes, either you like it or you find it bad (it's rare to find someone in between). Just by looking at that spiky haired boy with the large purple eyes (Yugi Mutou) gives the anime a bad impression. Yugi Mutou and his friends like (Joey Wheeler, Tea Gardener or Tristan Taylor) just talk about friendship and all of that, which is completely off the true underlying storyline that is the basis of Yu-Gi-Oh.
Those characters were bad, but look at the others like Yami Marik, Yami Bakura, Seto Kaiba, Yami Yugi and you will find their personalities alight with such ambitions and passion. To me, they are the true reason why Yu-Gi-Oh is a good anime. It's clear and true: they are good duelists and therefore watching them play is a fun and enticing experience. (You just can't help wanting to know who's going to turn out victorious!)
The whole idea about the Millennium Items and the relation to Ancient Egypt was a great success. This anime is a combination of history and anime-style excitement, including occasional humor as well as a mixture of surging emotions of characters, completely worth watching because it is always underrated. There are so many episodes, so the character development is slow, but surely, the flashbacks they have of Ancient Egypt and the lovely costumes of wealth and gold are must-sees. Just try it, and watch the REAL duelists battle with the cards!

| I won't be critical here , because this show was made for kids , so compare to other "normal" anime shows it's really awful . But kids don't need a complicated story , or great charaters development , they just need enjoyment , and this anime provides it . And yes , when i have the opportunity to watch it , i watch it . Just for the enjoyment of course . Yup , sometimes i really have to take a break from the serious anime , and watch a bit of kiddy-easy anime , and there's noting wrong with that .
The game actually is very enjoyable . I even collected the cards , and played with my friends . Again , nothing wrong with that , especially when the game is really good (compare to the anime ).
To end it i'll repeat myself - this is a show for KIDS , so it doesn't need to have a GREAT STORY or CHRACTERS DEVELOPMENT , it's made for ENJOYMENT (and money ;)) only.

| This is a blight on the acutal game and the manga. The manga actually had a lot goign for it. This does not!
Toei's animation actually seems a bit better this time but is still showing their usual standards of crapulence. The only music ever worth hearing is the opening theme. Every duel is 4 times longer than they should be, everyone rants far too long about cards we already know HOW THEY WORK from last week's rant, the cards they use are mainly stuff not worth touching with a 100-foot pole and when the good guys play the ebst cards they usually misuse them! No wonder kids get confused about how to play the game. Joey ought to be castrated for misusing Jinzo.
Joey is the only real highlight character-wise. His attitude and style were the onyl ones not cramped/hacked to pieces in the conversion. Tea, Mai and Yami are good at times then absolutely degraded by poor dubbing. This isn't meant to be a kids show, so why was it converted into one?!
Still, seeing the Dark Magician Girl prance around in her skimpy outfit and get all flirty gives one hope that more of that kind of action will prevail in that age bracket material. She definitely added some spice to it all (Actually, she got half of the character marks) :P.
All said, read the manga instead. I really would like to know if Yugi had a dream where the Dark Magician Girl seduced him, Tea too a leak from the side of a boat and whether the Tea-Yami and Joey-Mai links finally did get heated. Plus they actually had far more interesting plots and schemes than just bloody duelling. C'mon distributors! Where are you?!

| I liked Yu-Gi-Oh when i watched it in Taiwan, Japanese OP/ED/DUB. In canada... Horrible OP/ED, shitty commercial break music, and really, really gay dub. Lemme emphasize it, REALLY gay. I didnt like the animation coz the drawing werent really impressive, weird eyes and hairstyle. The story... kinda absurd but oh well. Character makes 0 development. He starts out like that and ends like that. Not to mention he grows taller when he changes from a short wimpy boy into pharaoh. BUT, it was enjoyable. I thought the manga was better, but I guess moving pictures evens out the shitty sounds a bit.

| Okay.. I'll admit, I watch the show as often as I can. Doesn't mean I really care for it though. The highest category I gave it was 8 for enjoyment. Why? Because at times I find it to be amusing and cheesy. Characters don't really have personality and take a little card game to seriously. Story, it's about saving the world.. by playing a little card game.
Doesn't make much sense, but it's for the kids. Yes, it's not great, but upon watching Duel Masters.. it's actually not that bad.

| I personally think Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters is a great anime! I like the fact that it's quite different from a lot of other anime shows. The story line isn't "absolutely ridiculous". It really does grow on you after you've watched a few episodes. It demonstrates every character's strengths and weaknesses well, and even every antagonist is lovable with reason. I really adore this anime!!!

| I find this Anime to be very realistic, except for all the monsters and stuff. It seems to be on the verge of being a teen Anime instead for little kids like they're trying to make it. I've seen screen shots of the Japanese version and I have to say, if they didn't dub it, it wouldn't be for kids. As for the physical consepts, I find the Anime on its way to getting better with each episode. The music is also good and flows with the Anime action.

| Since Yuugiou: Duel Monsters was my first anime (well, the first anime which I knew was anime) it will always have a special place in my heart. To pay homage to what is, despite what people say about it, a good series; this review will be much longer than my reviews usually are. It will examine the series on a saga basis, and I will not (despite the fact I love the series) hold back on the series’ faults.
The sagas are as follows:
Duelist Kingdom (1-40)
Game Duel (41-49)
Battle City (50-80)
Battle Ship (81-97)
Virtual World Noah (98-121)
Alcatraz Duel Tower (122-143)
Doma Orichalcos Saga (144-184)
KC Grand Prix (185-198)
Pharaoh’s Memory (199-224)

| Ok I'M REALLY CONFUSED... they show the picture of the main hero of Yu-Gi-Oh and they call it "Yu-Gi-Oh Second Season" on alternate titles... but the main name is "Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monster"...
What is the confusion? the Yu-Gi-Oh is one of the worst animes ever from all points of view, but Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters is a different anime: shure it has yu-gi-oh card monsters and all, but with different characters and mood...
...The "Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters" i've seen on FoxKids Tv on a dubbed version wich is actually very good has: younger characters with tons of personality, a more lite and carefree mood to it and a really good sence of humour.. and the main characters name is Sobo (wich means rat in my natal language), the bad guys are more then funny and i didn't really mind the monster battles either due to the very good comedy as i said before...
But if this is a continuation of the Yu-Gi-Oh main anime with the same lame story and characters, and i think the anime rated here just might be that one, i'll give it the review this way:
The saga continuess, or better said, the worst anime ever gets a second season.
Same stupidity and repetitivness, same horrible design, same lame hair design. i just don't get it, why do they try to make this seem so dramatic, every fight is soo buring and you already know who's the winer, but they wanna make it soo dramatic like it's the end of the world or of the series:))
AVOID THIS AT ALL COSTS.. and remember.. i only seen this anime on the local tv channels, so don't think that i'll actually download or buy such crapp.

| It get's repetetive at times, but that's OK because the music and art make up for it which may I add is very good and detailed. The characters are all pretty deep and understandable. The music is something you must hear! Everyone's giving this anime bad reviews saying things like " This anime doesn't deserve to be called anime. It's just like Pokemon!!!1 and blah blah blah I like Gravitation better and blah blah blah I'm a big fat dumbass" Well I think this anime is worthy of more than just merchandise selling. Really just get the Japanese DVD watch it, and come and tell me that this anime sucks, just try it. This also has a really good story line, but lot's of filler.

| Bleh, I've got the cards, I watch the show, but I hate it. When I'm watching it everyday after school and every Saturday morning I'm thinking... how much cheesier can an anime get? Of course, it sounds like all other little boy animes since they're all alike. Don't get my wrong, it's not THAT bad, try watching one episode, that should help you decide if you like it; all the episodes are the same.

| Although I have only seen the dub version of Yu-Gi-Oh, I did read most of the manga, so I do know how the original anime is suppose to flow. While I find the manga slighty entertaining, the anime is a different story.

| Contrary to other reviews I did find the animation to be quite good and the story to be entertaining, at least for the first story arc. After that it's just one duel after another versus even more *supposedly* powerful opponents who plan to take over the world via a card game.
It's good but gets too stale and repetative.
