| As a person who generally enjoys romance-based plots rather than actions, I greatly enjoyed this series. You're Under Arrest almost seems like a past police version of Initial D mixed in with a police-based plot, which while not fully devoloped was made with a range of enjoyable scenes with our two lovely protagonists, Miyuki and Natsumi, cutting down on bad guys.

| As the anime industry developed over time, a few tried and true anime formulas have come to light. Such formulas we regard nowadays as clichés and it’s basically a bother to watch them in action. But the question arises: ok, it’s cliché…but is it good or bad?
Ok, what I mean to say is that this is an anime based on an old anime formula and it simply jumps with it in your eyes at the very beginning. Normally, such an anime features a lot of comedy (good or bad, depends), little character development as it bases itself on the interaction between the two main characters that are two complete opposites, a weak storyline (if any) and simply beckons the watcher to just go with the flow of the whole thing.
Of course…I’m talking about the type of anime that pits together a quiet guy/girl and an energetic type, very loud most often. And “You’re under arrest” is probably the anime that’s most representative for the genre.
Now, it’s an anime about police business. Sadly, it’s mostly traffic stuff and police business that’s fit for a children’s story. We’ve got ladies driving in skirts and high-heels, policemen that can stop and have a chat with the children, kids that obey all of the traffic rules (like that would have chance to happen in the next million years), people practicing mountain climbing on the sides of a building, a whole police station that seems like it’s some sort of high-school class and much more stuff that really shows nothing of the real police business that could’ve been fitted into this. Whatever…I’ll cover this a little bit later.
Things put into perspective, this is mostly a character driven series. It’s episodic for the better part of it and it relies heavily on character chemistry. Ok, this is not a bad thing at all since the anime manages to bring together a lovable cast and a lot of great moment between them. But, taken its episodic nature…this is one anime that’s better viewed on television, day by day, or week by week because each episode is a slice of that station’s life and watched back to back…weeeeellll, it gets a bit boring at times.

| This anime isn't in the top 200. Why? You all are missing out.
Before the success of AA! Megami-sama, Kosuke Fujishima wrote another manga/anime ... Taiho Shichauzo (You're Under Arrest). This anime details the everyday exploits of a group of Traffic Policemen/women from Bokuto Station, located in Tokyo.
Impressively, this anime captivates without need of fanservice. OK, maybe one or two brief sections. But it is a true reflection of everyday police life, and the creators did their best to have the police duties resemble real life. A lot of people give this flak because it's not violent enough! Gimme a break! Traffic police aren't supposed to catch robbers, they're meant to do car chases, enforce parking and guide traffic, in addition to taking care of everyday issues! That's why they don't carry live guns!
All said and done, a truly beautiful and engaging anime, one of the best out there. And a lack of violence too! Appeals to people of all ages. This is a very good anime. I find myself watching it over and over again. GET IT NOW!!!

| This was on the whole fairly enjoyable for fans of the genre, but due to slow pacing and lack of a backdrop plot failed to succeed in my eyes. Every episode was standalone in nature and the character personalities have been seen in dozens of other animes by using the same cliched formula approaches to character development. Not that I didn't enjoy the nice comedy here and there, I just thought it could have been a lot more. An addition of a backdrop plot would have kept me more engaged with characters and how they would deal with something big. Instead every episode there is chance that it will be good/bearable/crap.
Anyhow an OK watch but nothing special that I would recommend. If you want something better watch the live action series called "Bayside Shakedown". Now that was about best cop comedy drama I ever saw.

| This is a solid anime created by one of my favorite author, Kousuke Fujishima, which also created the famous Ah! My Goddess, You're Under Arrest deliviers a good punch on comedy.
The animation is good for its time, especially on the vehicles, if you are a car buff like Fujishima, then you will notice that every car/bike on screen is real and is quite detailed. The only downside is that sometimes the character animation is a bit jagged and not that well rounded, but that is only for a few of the episodes.
The sound is great, great seiyuu, and great sound effects. You gotta love to hate the annoying oba-san with the scooter roaming the streets.
The story is purely episodic, although there they do build characters, don't expect a big overall storyline to defeat some crazy evils. They are traffic police afterall.
The characters are great, although most of them are a bit stereotyped, all of them are a joy. You have to watch through the episodes and see them grow on you one by one. Who can hate Kobayakawa Miyuki?
This is a great piece of anime history that people should definitely watch if they like anime.

| This anime TV series is a classic.
I have never seen better balance of action, romance, car persecutions, comedy and suspense in a TV series. Furthermore, this anime has a more realistic style than many other series so you identify better with the character. Personally, I really love that character of Miyuki Kobayakawa
because she is a really, really, believable character, I mean she have her up and downs. In other words, you believe at the end that she is real.
Please give a standing applause of the production and director of this series!
If you want a break of today’s anime style series like Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha etc (I don’t have anything against them)…. and you keep wondering for an anime not well known but at the same time posses the old solid anime style please do not look further pick this one.
All opening songs, ending songs and all background music are great.

| A pity this anime isn't even in the top 200. Maybe it is alittle too obscure as compared to Ah My Goddess!(Also by Kousuke Fujishima) But one thing is for sure, this is one heck of a classic! It's brilliant!
Nvm, the age of this anime, it's characters are really well fleshed out and each has an equally memorable personality. Though it's alittle too long at 51 episodes, with the first 4 been the ova, it does make you want more.
The car chase scenes are well done especially towards the end of the series. My only complain is that 51 episodes is too long. Series 2 won't disappoint you for sure though.
The OP and ED were very catchy and melodious. My favourite has got to be "Thank You Friend."
Personally, I would spare the time to rewatch this anime. Definitely one not to be missed!

| This is really an enjoyable anime about a police station and 2 female officers Miyuki and Natsumi who became partners. Miyuki is the brains and Natsumi is the brawns. Most of the episodes is packed with comedy and action.

| Slow, Subdued, Sedate even. You're Under Arrest is calm, easy-going and relaxing to watch. I could see many people being bored with it though, after the first 5-10 episodes the number of climaxes drops dramatically. The Traffic department at Bokutou really goes way out of its jurisdiction in an unrealistic manner, then again most of the series is just sillyness. The characters are lovable and the show isn't pretentious. To borrow from the other reviewers, it's charming.

| Although the animation seems a bit dated for its time, you should find yourself absorbed in this charming series.
What seems at first like one of those cliche "cop buddy" stories, it really meshes all the characters together with plot and interactions - and becomes far more entertaining than just watching 2 main characters in a work enviornment.
Each episode is a stand alone situation, which sometimes can be difficult to watch because there is not one main plot that flows throughout the series - but once you get a liking to the characters (it doesn't take long at all), it won't matter.
It won't generate any deep, meaningful discussions (Neon Genesis Eva or Lain) - but it certainly is a very enjoyable and cheerful series.

| Once in a while I run into series that reassure me that there are still good animes to be watched out there. This is one of them.
I like the girls, the stories and the atmosphere of the show. After having seen the 4 part OVA, the 47 episodes of the first season, the 20 part 6-minute shorts series, the special feature and lastly the movie, it left me wanting more. I have procured the second season with the special which I will be watching next.
I recommend this show, if you havent seen it, and think you've run out of good stuff to watch, give this one a whirl. Good chance that you will not be disappointed.
Sugoi samasu!!!! =D

| The Original series, 51 episodes long, has plenty of story telling and character development . I was sort of disappointed when every episode was standalone (give or take a few) but they all tie in together character wise, like Miyuki and Nakajima's go no where love interest, And Natsumi and Toukerin. Plenty of other characters make this show a hit aswell. Plenty of action form the girls and company. A must see.

| This anime has it all. Action, comedy, and some love here and there, but it's a comical love. Great amount of details into the settings, characters, and the props. Story is almost as good as watching COPS but with some spunk. Great animation and Great characters. Slightly Recommended.

| I really depise traffic cops in general, but YUA is an exception. One can't really make the lives of traffic cops interesting without having crazy, dramactic situations, and comedy to entertain the audience. Highly recommended for its exceptional hand drawings (Kousuke Fujshima) and light, upbeat storyline. Took me 6 yrs to finally see all 51 episodes!

| You're Under Arrest! is a fun, light, action\comedy with mostly single-episode stories that have just enough continuality to keep the story going.
There's nothing wrong with any of that. I often like to watch shows that are pretty basic and dont force me to think to hard about stuff or get to into it, however, none of those shows carry on to 52 episodes.
YUA fails, in part by either hype or its creators, in that it is extreemly stretched out for the substance of the show. 26 episodes would have been much more enjoyable and substancial w\o cutting away at any of what YUA is all about...comedy and action. Nevertheless, this is a fun series, allbeit a little long for the style of the show. Great atmosphere and charming characters await.

| Good series overall. Have its funny momments and some good action but its mostly the comedy that kept viewer going. Good animation and good theme song. "The detail on the vehicles and machines looks awesome." =)
This is also one of the Bigger name title you see here and there in the anime world, I was kind of shock that not much ppl rate this anime. =)
Overall is a good light humor anime, and its recommanded fore everyone. =)

| An excellent extension of the 1994 OVA.
While the quality of animation falters at some points, and the BGM becomes a little repetitive, the series has done well to preserve the brilliant drama, characterisation and humour that marked the original. The supporting cast has been taken further, too, enriching the story.
One of my all-time favourites; highly recommended. If you like it, watch the second season too!
