| A very enjoyable action/adventure show that gets bogged down to some degree in the genre's cliches but in the end still satisfies.

| First off, i haven't played any of the games and i almost had completely forgotten the story of ZoE movie by time of watching this anime, so i can't and won't compare it to them. This review is based ONLY on the anime at hand, nothing else. It's just unfare to judge an anime from what it is NOT suppose to be >.>
I watched the first episode a few times, but it was so boring that i almost gave up. But then i decided to watch a few more eps. And boy did the series turned around?!
Now... First off, graphics were just stunning! Made in 2001, yet it look top quality stuff. Mechha action might not compare to cgi of Macross Zero, but all this is hand-drawn and 3 years older! SUPERB! Character design is good and excellent use of colors and lightning.
One note: it's a bit unclear what Dolores calls James Links. Was it "Ohji-sama=Prince" or "Oji-sama=Uncle". I've seen both varients being used by fansubs. But i guess "Uncle" makes sense, as she (Dolores) acts kinda like a little girl ^-^ .
Sound was also top-notch! Voice acting is really great, very fitting sfx, music was good as well. I didn't like the opening theme however, but rest was very good. Quality stuff from Sunrise yet again!
Story starts out very lighthearted and funny, takes a few very action/suspence turns and then comes to the final show down. It's UNIQUE to say the least.. Comparing it to other mecha stories is just unfair (for them :P )
Best thing about this show is lack of annoying "teenagers-piloting-mecha/romance/global-spacewar" or other very common themes.
"Final showdown" of this show is one of the most lengthy, exciting and revealing i have ever seen.. It starts in Episode 20-22 and lasts till very end.
This show REALLY got me hooked! I can't think of any other mecha anime that can compare to it.
Hugely Entertaining and awesome value! This show made me watch the original movie again ^_^

| One of the strongest conclusions I have ever watched...extremely touching..althought the snot running out of James' face got me choking back some laughter. Overall, it's quite an enjoyable series with some really different and outstanding characters. I thought giving a robot a human personality was a nice twist. It's not a must watch, but you won't regret watching it either.

| I tried this anime because sunrise has never let me down yet, and once again they've produced a great show.
PLOT/CHARECTER: The story is well-paced, engaging and reasonably original; the charecters are both believable and memorable, and it nice to see the way the Links family's interaction changes greatly over the course of the series.
ANIMATION: The animation is... nice, without being outstanding. The battle's are exciting, with very smooth animation, lots of frames. The charecters are good as well, as are the mechas. There was nothing that jarred, and the cg animation was well implemented and not over-used. My general impression was of the glossy, digital sheen that you would expect of anime in recent years.
SOUND: I don't usually watch anime's dubbed, so i can't comment on the english voice-acting, but the japanese voices are all emotive and appropriate. Whether a comic scene or an epic, emtional one it all works well. I particularly like the effects they used
on dolores' voice, and when people were talking on radios. The battle sounds were cool, and the intro music is good if you like iron maiden ;)
SUBS: The subs were good, usual adv standard i.e. clear and comprehensible, although sometimes slightly stilted. Still, all good bascially.
I loved this series, and anyone who likes mecha with a little hint of the mystical, epic plots spanning more than one planet and/or fairly goofy humour will too.

| Well, how should i put this. Most anime that comes from a video game are rarely good. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Zone of the enders Dolores i. First of, I would like to warn anime fans who enjoy none stop action. Although ZOE games 1-2 are of that genre, the T.V show is quit different. Instead of non-stop killing/action, Dolores focus more on human development and interspersion relationships. Some might find this concept boring, but surprisingly it proves to be very entertaining, from James links pathetic attempts to communicate with his children to Dolores reaction to new things around her, it proves to be quit the comic show. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of Orbital frame (giant robot) battles, its just the story doesn't revolve around it.

| One of my favourite mech animes of all time, features a lighthearted adventrure with memorable characters and amazing looking robots. There's no confusing ideas here that'll make you go nuts, just an ordinary man trying to become a good father for his children.
The animation is decent, not great like last exile or samurai 7 but surely does not disappoint. Both the music and voice acting were nicely done. I loved the ending song very much.
Recommended for anyone looking for a fun and steady anime, as well as those who enjoyed Idolo or the PS2 games since the numerous references to them.

| An action comedy with a lot of spunk. ZOE is a fun ride all the way to the end. I loved the first part of the show where Jim is this loser father trying to patch things up with his kids only to end up making them fugitives wanted for murder. Hilarious stuff! I laughed a lot at the jokes. The storyline is very straightforward and remains for the most part unpredictable. Aside from Jim and Dolores other characters arent given enough screen time for any growth. Which I think was a waste as there were some really good characters with a lot of potential.
This anime was also funny on the scenes where Dolores would act like a little girl only thing is the girl happens to have a giant robot body. Totally takes a new twist at how to view a mech. All in all this was fun and a worthwhile watch. I loved the comedic moments when Jim consults his little book to be a better father I never stopped laughing at it.
Anyhow the bas points would be the weak plot, however it doesnt really matter because it never takes itself too seriously. Its all enjoyable and fun, with lots and lots of action.

| I found ZOE Dolores to be a enjoyable show, a bit of a surprise really.
The animation wasn't spectacular but it served its purpose and plus it wasn't inconsistent to any great extent.
The sound well was ok, again average but it was still ok
The story was prety interesting, although the ZOE story line is wider than this one, it none the less fills in certain gaps in the ZOE story arc. However the main aspect of this show was the "family" theme and it does a job at that.
The characters were enjoyable to watch, each of them had their own personalities. Some characters were prety blend but overall it still had variety.
Overall ZOE is a fun and light hearted anime show, which while could have been better, is still none the less an enjoyable nice comfortable watch ^_^.

| Not your run of the mill mecha series. It offers a somewhat unusual combination of a dysfunctional family trying to work out its problem that include parent children mistrust and anger, feelings of abandonement, trying to earn each others respect, as well as trying to find lost members, all in the setting of interplanetary conflict that explores issues between a dominent power not understanding the frustations of the colonized people. The characters are well developed and serious and funny at the same time, nice combat scenes, the animations is somewhat simple but as someone said previously that doesn't matter when the combat starts. A good value overall, especially if ZOE Idolo is watched and bought along with this series.

| I absolutely loved this unusual and surprising anime! Pulling away from the usual tropes of mecha shows - kids grimly saving the world - Dolores distinguishes itself with humour, wackiness, and a hapless cast of nutty characters. The protagonist is a 49-year-old space-trucker who gets pulled into mess after mess with his annoyed kids and a giant pink ditzy mecha voiced by Houko Kuwashima, as they try to find his wife.
The animation is frankly low-budget when compared to the gargantuans of Macross Zero and Last Exile - but then again what isn't? While the visuals are serviceable, when the action heats up they don't disappoint, and provide a satisfying finale. The cool mecha designs don't hurt either.
I didn't care for the opening theme (though the Engrish caption "Robust Father" cracked me up), but the ending theme by Heart of Air is haunting and delightful.
The greatest strength is the writing. The characters are hilarious and grow through the series. You can really relate to them, yet laugh at them too. I loved the crazy situations that just keep on escalating, and the references to the ZOE games. A great balance is struck between totally crazy humour, the central theme of family, and full-on action. There are so many great moments, but I have to mention the way Dolores uses the octopus-martian as a killer weapon!!
A special mention must be made of the way science is used so as to bolster rather than detract from the story.
Watch ZOE Idolo first, because there are some very strong ties to it. Idolo is really a kind of prologue.
ZOE Dolores, I is a charming anime which I wholeheartedly recommend.

| While the first game sucked, ZOE's story beared some potential.
Dolores follows up the events of the OVA and the first ZOE. This time the story is told from the POV of an unusual character: a seperated degenerate father.
While the foundation of the show starts off with potential, the level of story telling successfully handicaps it from growing into anything compelling. Despite the sparse graphic violence, the story is more of a childish romp from one end of space to the other.
Dolores is followed up by an average GBA game and an improved ZOE 2nd Runner on the PS2.

| Dolores is your standard mecha anime that never quite takes off. It's just average on about every level. Character interactions lacks the spice that makes them interesting and the plot follows the traditional cliche formula so much that none of it stands out. The more subtle political story is also awkwardly developed.
One thing worth pointing out. The core of the show is actually not about battles, but rather about the adventure of a family. It isn't exactly exciting, but I found it strangely refreshing for once.
The anime is a real treat for those who have watched Idolo and played the games. Cameos show up here and there throughout the series. The mecha design is also very unique as usual.
I wouldn't recommend this to non Z.O.E fans though. There are so many better mecha animes out there.

| The main gripe I have with Dolores is that its script is ridiculous. Given the potential to make a great story, the writers put together lines/character interactions geared towards a 8 year old. It's not a very "adult" anime, as can be expected of a video game based show, but unfortunately it seems that the show isn't even a very "teenage" anime, given the nature of much of the plot through the first several episodes.
[Edit] After finishing the show, my gripe does not change. However, the middle part of the show, although full of filler episodes, is probably the best part of the show. Unlike many animes, this is where the show expounds on the main plot, which, lamely enough, could have been taken care of in 4-5 episodes if profit wasn't really a factor.
I found the end sequence to be unoriginal and really quite silly (remember: logic's not so important in these shows) but still felt pretty good after the last episode.
Overall, this series is not quite a Gundam, Infinite Ryvius or even a Full Metal Panic, but it does rank among the Armor Hunter Mellowlink, Geneshaft or other slightly less powerful mecha animes.

| Some of the reviewer said this is just an average anime, and that almost had me missed out this GREAT ANIMATION. Z.O.E dolores continue to improve every episode, and the last 5 were just fantastic. Watch the Z.O.E OVA first then watch dolores to fully understand the story, I also like how they add some elements from the PS2 game.
A must watch for anime fans ^ ^

| A good mecha story with a lot of humor. thought it came from a video game, this anime has been made with care.
The animation is very nice and fits well the story. The chara design reminds me kya asamiya style.
The mechs design is quite unusual and interesting. Given that it is taken from the Konami game Z.O.E. it's not a surprise.
The ending song is also great.
Watch it !!
