RG-Veda was an o.k. OVA, but it does not stack well with others because it is so short. Two episodes were not enough to explain the whole story. The characters were varied but again the length of the OVA doesn't allow for much character development. If you want to know more read my review.

Like with the other older Clamp animes I've see, RG Veda brings a lot of promise to the table but fails to deliver in the end. Gorgeous characters, an interesting fantasy world, and great fights are plentifull in veda but none of that mattters when you dont know what's going on. Like with the X movie, the whole time I was watching this I felt like "who are these people and what are they doing?". By the end I think I sort of understand what was going on, but not really. I don't recall any of the characters names either (there's a ton, also like the X movie). If Clamp could have made this a few more episodes, or cleaned up the content of these two this might have been very cool. Right now it's borderline messy.

Though I somewhat liked the anime, this two episode OVA fails to capture any real depth. Why? It has no ending. The anime merely stops after the sixth star is discovered... major cliffhanger. The teeny-weeny little problem of defeating Taishakuten is never even touched on. He's not destroyed in the end, hell, there wasn't even a confrontation. I hate it when that happens. However, everything that led up to the sloppy "ending" was interesting enough to hold my attention.

Though Yasha was the stereotypical silent and stoic male, I found myself wondering how it came to be that he strives to protect Ashura so much, especially since it is mentioned that he used to be her enemy. But alas, that was not touched on, and I was so curious. My favorite scene occurred in the first episode when Yasha is kidnapped and taken to an ice cave. His kidnapper, in my opinion, held the most poignant scene in the entire anime. I also enjoyed Kujaka's character; and yet again, my curiosity was not satisfied. I wondered if he was someone to be trusted. As for Ashura, viewers can sense her loneliness, but at the same time, she can joke around and be a down-right brat. Hence, the characters weren't sketchy for ninety minutes, but certainly not as fleshed out as they could have been if the series was longer.

I liked this. Very unfortunate to only have made 2 episodes tho. If they had made more it would have been superb.

The visuals, whilst lacking animation detail, are colourful and atmospheric. Their main problem is that they are a bit dated to look at.

The sound is above average, but once again suffers from age. Also, some of the voices can get annoying at times.

The story is ace. I just WISH they had continued it. I would have lOVED to see it to completion. It has a Dungeons & Dragons mixed for some reason with Thundercats feel to it.

The characters were decent, all being unique with nice traits and abilities.

This anime has an average replay value because of its age and incomplete nature. I thoroughly enjoyed what little there was of it tho.

That it does not conclude in the anime is utterly annoying... but they got me - now I'm buying the manga.

I found the Ashura character a bit unbelievable. The manga does a better job. It's weird that she's a boy in the manga!

Its a CLAMP work, and has the requiste high quality animation. The story, well, its the RG Veda, you can't get much better pedigree than that. I still have a few songs on my hard drive from it and the characters are cool. Unfortunately its 2 OVAs from a long running manga, so the potential for greatness is wasted. A good anime, but by necessity short with a nondecisive ending. Damn shame.

To tell you the truth, I knew nothing about the series and only bought it because it was by clamp. all in all, it isn't all that bad but the animation is a little dated. there is a good story but it isn't complete in these two episodes (there are 10 volumes of the manga i believe). still, if you are a clamp fan, you should add this to your collection.

Two OVAs roughly based on CLAMP's first manga series... Don't you dare buy 'em!
