| Ranma 1/2 is incredibly silly. It is old, so the animation is not that great and neither is the sound. However, the characters are unique and fun, and there is a lot of humor. Basically, it is an anime that goes on and on forever with nothing really happening, but it is amusing to watch. There are a lot of fight scenes and character development. This is another one of those classic animes that helped further the world of animation. It is worth a watch.

| First and foremost, this anime is *long*. And, in the late middle episodes, repetitive. The first bunch of episodes are wonderful, very funny. But since a great deal of the humor centers around awkward situations due to Ranma's gender changing, it just gets old after awhile.
The main characters were enjoyable. By that I mean, none of them were the overly cute, overly blushing, pink sparkly backgrounds and smiles nonsense. Ranma is a bit of an idiot, but he is a funny idiot and an interesting idiot, so I forgive him. Akane, the female lead, was a bit of a disappointment. The first episodes set her up as an all-around ass-kicker, which was very promising, but she slowly degenerates into the usual "constantly being kidnapped and standing around waiting for Ranma to rescue her" form. Her personality is the same, I just wish she would rescue herself every once in a while.
As to the story, it is very formulaic. In case of Ranma, however, this is not a bad thing. They start with a joke (Ranma turns into a girl? What?) and make infinite variations on that theme throughout the entire show. Since they begin with a funny foundation, it stays funny for a long time.
The romance between Ranma and Akane, while starting well, seems to hit a plateau a while before the gags start to get old. They go nowhere, their characters stop developing. So, if you are into character development, I would recommend that you stop watching Ranma after, I don't know, some arbitrary cut-off episode, and go watch Escaflowne instead.
SPOILER
Also, the ending was kindof a joke. It reminded me of InuYasha the way it just kindof cut off in the middle of nowhere. I did however, really, really like the little mini-ending they gave Ryoga. (Had nothing to do with the fact that Ryoga was my favorite character. Really.)

| ranma is very much (in my humble opinion) , i watched it with half interest, until i saw the rest of the first episode. after that i wanted more! ive never watched an anime solely for enjoyment as i did this. action animes leave you dangling as what will happen next. ranma doesnt do that. you dont know what the next episode will throw at you, this unpredictability makes this anime (in my opinion) top of the anime heap when it comes to comedy!

| *currently re-writing*
Ranma 1/2 is my favorite anime ever, and nothing has beaten it even after watching many other series. I'm a huge comedy sucker and I find Ranma to be the funniest anime ever created and the comedy doesn't get old even after watching over and over. I think this series is the most recognized work of Rumiko Takahashi, the so called "Princess of Manga"
The overall story just revolves around a guy named Ranma Saotome who turns into a girl and a bunch of characters which transforms whenever they're splashed with cold water. It also focuses on Ranma and Akanes love-hate relationship. The plot is pretty simple, so why did I give a perfect score for the story? I based it on the originality and the individual story of each episode. To those who think this kind of anime (character driven type) doesn't have story, You're wrong. This has a story, actually, the whole series is composed of 100+ stories, and I think it's quite hard to create this type because the author have to think of different stories for every episode and the ending must be appealing to the viewers as well, or else they'll lose interest especially for something like Ranma 1/2 which has 161 episodes. What I like in this type of anime is that you'll never get bored as the events are fast-paced so there'll be no dull moments compared to mostly of those strongly plot driven (for example KgNE, which is filled with boring and unimportant scenes).

| Seen em all. As you may know this is a seven season anime with 12 additional ova episodes and 2 movies.
This series is so FUNNY-crazy characters, crazy situations, tasteful jokes.
So many hilarious episodes! This is an absolute must watch.
Ranma is awesome, never a dull moment-those people have so many ideas, its amazing.
It's about an "Anything Goes Martial Arts" school-so they will compete in any martial arts.(figure skating martial arts?-you've got it!, speed-eating?got it!)
The thing is Ranma sometimes turns into a girl and his father turns into a panda as a result of a tragic accident in china.
There's some really kooky characters, of which Tatewaki Kuno is the most ridiculous one- you gotta watch Ranma in english to fully appreciate it.
Just when you think things are going to get serious in the story.. WHAM!
Overall: Crazy Fun, Mild Nudity. I really didn't like the episodes where there was a cross-dresser: fortunately Tsubasa episodes are few and far between.
Any shortcomings are nothing compared to how much you'll laugh.

| This is definately my favorite anime of all time and I've been an anime fan for 12+ years. I got into the series around 1994 and got hooked from the very first episode. Most of the characters that appear in the show are memorable and the series has a cast of great voice actors. Being a blend of many different genres, Ranma 1/2 can appeal to all sorts of anime fans.
A lot of people will complain that the show gets too dragged on with no advancement of plot or development of the characters later into the series. I feel that this is ok considering the manga covered both of these aspects. What I liked about the series is that it had some elements from the manga but also differed from it. I read the manga while watching the anime and it came as a great relief to me that a lot of the episodes in the series are unique in their own.
An anime series that follows the manga too closely or vice versa, tends to be kinda dull to me. What the show amounted to was a lot of stand-alone episodes that you would watch for comedy purposes, episodes that did not appear as scenes in the manga. The show does get a little dragged on near the end and I do wish the series would cover some of the things that happened later in the manga, like Pheonix Mountain, but I still greatly enjoyed the series. Even today I will pick up some parts of this great anime to rewatch.

| For sure this is one of the most outstanding anime to exist. Personally, this has become my new 'best anime' and for good reasons.
The humour and unique characters kept me entertained and attached the whole time! Although the humour is recycled it never loses its touch! Similarly, you are so familiar with the character's behaviours that you know how the the situation will end. But again, it never gets boring or such.
One thing I disliked though, was the blending of the characters. Ranma and Akane are the main characters so they would be in every epidose. But as for the sub main caracters, they would only appear in certain episodes involving only them. i.e You would rarely see shampoo and kuno in the same episode, which contrivuted in the story development.
But in the end, I must say it as great and is probably themost entertaining and enjoyable anime! I watched all 161 episodes in 6-7 days! That's how much I enjoyed it ! I highly recommend this to anyone interested in a schoolife full of comedy/ romance, and a touch of comical action.

| This is the anime that launched Takahashi Rumiko's career (actually the manga) that there's a reason why it is. In no other anime you will find a wide variety and gigantic cast that fits in seemlessly in the most hillarious and outrageous manner. The story is as original as it gets as a guy turns into girls, guy with really bad eyesight turns into a duck, violent and sexy girl into a cat, and a guy with no sense of direction turn into a pig.
The most important and outstanding aspect of this anime has to be the characters. The characters are so diverse, original, and so funny to a point that even the filler episodes are more fun to watch than most of the anime around today. This characers get themselves in the most hillarious and the most embarassing situations possible and it's a joy to watch.
The story is laid out in events. There are big events and small one episode events, but the important ones are the big one for those events are the ones that are used to progress Ranma's relationship with Akane.
The negatives really kicks in with its animation. We all know that this anime is now very old and it shows. The color, style and the details of the animations are nothing like that of today. Modern watcher might have trouble watching rather outdated animes if you were only watching animes like Last Exile or Full Metal Alchemist. I didn't find the animation to be a big problem however.
This anime is also a bit long. This anime as 161 episodes and it truly is a long butt kicker anime and it still ends before the manga ends. WOW. This anime takes a dive in its plot and story during the middle part of the anime because all the jokes and hillarious events are basically used already and it does get bit old but the story picks back up towards the end to compensate for it. But yes... it's too long.
I don't think i ever had so much fun watching an anime. This anime is the prime example of originality and imagination used in the most effective and hillarious manner possible. This anime is the anime that got me into watching and reading anime and manga when i was still a little kid. This one is a good one and you won't be left disapoointed.

| At first I though that seeing all 161 eps for this show would be impossible, somehow I watched them all and I have to say I'm rather disapointed...
The animation is good quality consitering its time, nothing much more to say really.
The music wasn't that good, the general background music was good but the OP/ED for all of the 7 seasons was just below waht it could have been, although the second opening was quite good.
The story is very intresting and its not plot driven at all, its got a unique storyline and good all around story but their isn't any real plot what so ever, this anime is telling a very long and slow story... A story that doesn't have any conclusion what so ever, you may like that, I on the otherhand don't.
The characters are very well done, Ranma, Akane, Ryoga, ect all are great and unique characters for the most part, I would like to say Ryoga rocks, at times just knowing that he was going to be in the next ep is what kept me going. The problem with the characters is, their isn't any remotely good development, sure you have the giant love... well insane cross loving endless shape going on between the cast, its obvious by even just the second season that both Akane and Ranma have feelings for each other, yet nothing at all develops, this is the same case with all of the cast, such poor character development is what brings this show down.
I did enjoy this anime, but to a point, its not a good idea to watch this anime in bulk form, a weekly show of this would be good to watch but thats hard to do now a days, Ranma is a show that could have been one of the greatest romanic comedys of all time, sadly it just wasn't its an enjoyable watch for the most part, but you will struggle to get to the end of it becuase you just want something to happen, and nothing ever really does, hell even the ending is crap!
I'm going to watch the OVA's and movies next, god I hope those are better, I had such high hopes for this show...

| This was one of the first animes i watched. I absolutly loved it at the time but the more i go back and watch it the less interested i get. It doesn't have a stroy line really. nothing every happens except random fights and ranma getting a new fiance every ten episodes lol. But I still enjoy it. It's a funny show. Not recomended if you're a get to the point something better happen soon, kind of person. Like i said nothing ever happens no story line just randomness but it's cute and funny. The OVA and oh my conquibine sp? movie are the best IMO.

| Ranma 1/2 is decent fun. This is the kind of anime where you just pick up from time to time because there is a really weak storyline that connects each episode. Watcing it through straight woud be very tedious because pretty soon, things start feeling the same and you start to wonder, "Didn't I watch this already?"
There isn't really any character development in this in the long run. Maybe a little between akane and Ranma's romance relationship with ryouga getting involved from time to time, and all the girls who likes Ranma, but all the rivalries are never resolved. The principal is always chasing after Ranma's hair and does not seem to be open to reason. Shampoo and the other girls are always battling it out to win Ranma's love, etc.
In the end Ranma's strength includes: light-hearted and unchanging humor and characters.
Weakness: no character or story development, and repetitiveness of humor type that prevents you from watching many episodes at once without getting tired of it. Another part that totally sucks was how there is no conclusion to the anime. Even after all those episodes, NOTHING CHANGED. GAH. It just stopped in the middle of the manga series (I'm assuming)

| It was this anime that started making me an anime fan, well, I read the manga before that so I basically know what the story was about but still, it was marvellous to see the anime done so well!
Since its kinda old, the animation isn't very well done, in fact in the 3rd to 5th season, it started to get out of shape and sloppy, but it went back to oav standards in the 6th season
The opening and ending themes were really cute and catchy too, the background music suited the whole anime, and although not beautiful, was really memorable
Although there are many characters, you can't help but remember all of them, they were so likable and funny, even the sub-characters played a great role in contributing to the fun of this anime
As expected, Kappei Yamaguchi and Megumi Hayashibara were awesome in their role as male and female Ranma, the rest were equally great, (although I'd never thought that Shampoo would sound so much like Mickey Mouse =p)
The only thing I wasn't pleased of was why they didn't continue the story and finish it as there were many more hilarious stories to tell after the mother episode, there were way too many filler episodes though I have to admit some were funny as well....until now I've still been hoping for a continuation but I guess its in vain
Overall, this anime was entertaining and enjoyable, watch it if you haven't!

| You get a lower score cause it's 80s animation and sound, but what you lack in modern techonolgy, you make up in witty and off the wall humour mixed with about a million love triangles. The way ranma turns into a girl is also very funny.
I've noticed the relationship between Ranma and Akane, the love-hate relationship, has been done but it seems this is the basis for such influences as Kenshin and Full Metal Panic. Even if Ranma wasn't 1st in anime to do this, it did it so well.
And i just love Shampoo. Her japanese sucks it so funny.
Lately the serious and meloncoly animes that have underlying social commentary have grown trite to me. It's almost trendy to be philisophical. But Ranma is so light hearted and funny, it just makes you wanna smile. There's so much talk of love in this anime you fall in love at times. And nothings serious. You really get taken back at how full of jokes this whole anime is, yet is touching.
I've been going back to old anime i watched back when iw as too young to appreciate it as i do now. Gunbuster, Bubble gum Crisis, Ranma, good old Boom time animes with basic stories about love and good well done action.
Anime has just gotten too much for me. I can't keep going watching that deep stuff. I need something light hearted once in a while. This is a good choice i think.
I watch Ranma on the Winamp Internet TV. Check out the latest Winamp version and find the Movie play list and you should find it now and then.
Dated 1.1.05
Also, i love the theme song. Why the hell is it so damn catchy? i don't think i've heard an anime theme song that rhymed that well? well anyways...
basic deal: old time anime thats very light hearted, filled with humour and love. Not for the hard-core philisophical type anime lover looking for the meaning of life or good animation.

| Fun to watch, insane, and full of twisted humor. Those are the only ways to describe Ranma ½. Oh yeah, and "what the hell!?!?" comes to mind as well ^_^
The english voice acting is terrible for the first few seasons, but it gets better later in the series, at the very least watch the first 3 seasons subbed instead of dubbed. After that the english voice acting gets good enough to watch either way, though subtitled is still recommended.
With the exception of a few episodes the middle seasons (4-6) really suck, but 1,2,3,parts of 4,7, and the OVAs are really worth watching. The series drops off at a lot of points, but it rarely stops being funny. In spite of how much some of the episodes suck, you can tell that its mostly the series making fun of itself (which it does quite nicely ^_^).
The OVAs are much higher quality than the series itself, If you cant stand the quality of seasons 5 and 6, just skip to 7 and the OVAs, you wont be missing much other than a couple character introductions.
In spite of its flaws Ranma is still a must-watch. Have fun and dont fall in any springs ^_^

| Ranma 1/2 is one of my favorite anime's of all time. It is the best comedy I have seen, in anime and perhaps overall. This series is mostly about Ranma's accident in the cursed Jusenkio springs, and all the strange situations that result from this. This show has a memorable cast of characters and a very high rewatch value. If you would like to know some more read my review.

| This show used to be one of my favourites a few years back, I guess it still is.... I have recently viewed Season 5 & 7 and I have to say the happenings could have been from any season. That is the main problem with Ranma, there is no continuity whatsoever. The characters don't develop, some of the jokes are often overly repeated and some storylines share striking ressemblances. I have to say, that is all that I find bad about Ranma. I still enjoyed sitting through 2 seasons back to back not so long ago. The animation is pretty good for its time and still look ok by today's standards. The stories are often reused or reshaped in some ways to suit a different character but it does not affect the enjoyment of the show; as long as that is done subtlely. Like I have said before, character development is basically not existent but the characters are established so strongly (Shampoo, Great Granma, Ryoga, Kodashi) that they are still fun to watch just the way they are. The value of this show is quite strong though as it provides a benchmark for shows that try to capture humour in battles (Naruto) and as just this, it is still the best around!!!!!

| This is currently one of my favorite anime of all time. It is just plain hilarious to see characters fight for stupid reasons. I keep watching it and still it makes me laugh. This is one of the most popular anime of its time. If you don't know Ranma, then don't watch anime ever. Everyone has heard of Ranma 1/2.

| Although this series is way to long to be cohesive or non-repetitive, it is something like a american sitcom. The premise remains the same, things don't change quickly or much at all, and because of the vast cast of characters some are bound to rub you the wrong way. Happosai for example is beyond annoying.
I won't re-explain the premise or the characters, but this show is just fun to watch one at a time whenever you have the time. It's like comfort food in a way, not unusual or exciting, but comfortable and easy to watch. Maybe I should deduct points for the lack of story progression or innovation but I just have a soft spot for the show, desptite the undeniable creepiness of the fact that Ranma would be a "regular" guy if it wasnt also a girl when wet. Transexual? Bisexual? This show isn't really about sex so its not too bothersome.

| Despite the mediocre score I've given Ranma it is one of my favorite shows. I love the characters and their interaction and the first two and a half seasons are incredibly enjoyable. The lack of any development isn't much of a problem as there are plenty of hilarious ideas. However as the show goes into the next seasons most of the jokes get old and the sitcom structure of the show hurts it a lot. There's barely a 2-part story once in a while and that's it till the end. The last 2 seasons are a pain to watch as most episodes use either rehashed old ideas or bad ideas.
At least Ranma maintains good visuals throughout unlike many other soap fighting shows. The music gets old though and none of the OPs are even half as good as the first one.
