This reminded me of the first DVD volume of Masters of Russian animation. Certainly Tezuka must have been influenced by Soviet animation (dominant at that time) a lot.
I'm glad I had at last the chance to see a cartoon from Japan (a rare term nowadays). And what a beautiful cartoon it is. Everything told in a unique way. Since this is the first work of Tezuka I had the chance to watch (except an old Hi no Tori movie I saw when I was a kid and cant recall much) I was impressed. Rightfully shows that Tezuka is among the best animators of the 20th century.
In this feature the viewer sees mainly posters. It has somethings in common with the fairy tale about the one-legged soldier and the ballarina and I felt as if Tezuka was retelling the story in a different manner. he added some anti-war nuances that were very touching and effective especially in the end.
I would classify Tales of a Street corner among the best animated features I watched. It shows why anime should be called ''animation from Japan".

| I was surprised by how moving this work was; the beginning seemed playful and whimsical, but by the end I felt that the message and feelings conveyed were very powerful. Definitely worth your time...plus it's Tezuka ;)

| This very old anime is actually very nice to wach. Just don't place any expectations on graphics and sound and this will really impress you.
