Based on all 52 episodes:

As the only reviewer so far who has actually seen all the episodes, I would like to review Capeta as a whole. The series can be roughly divided into 3 parts. 1) Childhood go-karting 2) More serious adolescent karting and 3) Going into the Formula series. Episode 1-14 focuses on #1, 4 years later it follows part 2, and then around episode 40 it goes into part 3.

There is only one reason to watch Capeta... and that is if you are a fan of racing, of cars, or of 'comeback stories'. Raised by a single father who works in construction, Capeta is poor and relies on the warmth and kindness of people around him to get funded for his races. Whereas people normally change karts every season at most, Capeta relies on the same scrap metal for 3 years (+1 one year second hand). As a result, with the handicap that he faces, Capeta has to overcome his challenges and rivals with not only superb skill, but motivation.

So far, this story seems interesting... not to mention that there are some really monumentous racing moments that left my heart pumping. However, the only problem is that there are only two real races during the whole 52 episodes that are truly worth watching. The first one is during the first 14 episodes, and the second one is at the end of the second part. So... then... aside from these 9 or so episodes, what do you do with other 43? Now this is where Capeta fails to outshine other sports animes such as the more character-oriented Touch, Hajime no Ippo, or Slam Dunk.

Character development is probably the worst part of this series. I suppose you can't expect too much from a sports anime, but the characters are horribly shallow. I mean, I admire the 'spirit' that some of the racers put in, but it disappears as soon as the races are over. I admire Monami and Nobu's valiant efforts to keep Capeta racing, but this friendship seems too expected. Rather, this friendship only exists to push the financially poor Capeta further into racing, and serves little purpose otherwise. What's worse, they also took the timidness of Ippo and put it into Capeta -- he only gets serious when the race is on the line just like Ippo (and even funnier, Capeta LOOKS like Ippo at times), they made Monami into a character similar to Minami from Touch (but no comparison of course), especially with the whole idol thing and the support she provides as a manager, etc.... However, unlike those two animes, the characters are flat and uninteresting and the dialogue boring.

Back to the races... Capeta uses some interesting 3D CG for the races that I really liked. Although it doesn't have the same artistic effect with wind blowing at every turn, it makes it feel more realistic. I watched all 52 episodes in 2-3 days, fast forwarding some dialogue only because of these races. Sadly, I was disappointed at the end as it is rushed in the Formula stages. If I were you, I would avoid starting that segment, and just focus on the go-karting.

Overall, Capeta feels like a mimic of other more successful sports animation. Characters are easily forgettable, and there isn't any real rivalry going on. Aside from the two intense races (I especially loved the one in the rain), Capeta doesn't boast anything new or interesting. It doesn't even recycle the stuff well. Nevertheless, I can see one enjoying this if they are truly a die-hard sports anime fan, or love racing. However, just don't expect anything more than cardboard cutouts for the characters, and anyone else other than Capeta.

up to ep 25

Animation : Very satisfactory with a good integration of CGI and hand drawing. the character drawing is a bit crude however and the faces are a bit childish, but they contribute to the mood of this serie

Sound : Supports the anime quite well but a bit repetitive. drama level is fine, but it lacks variety. intro and ending unimpressive

Story : a well rounded-up story with a few too predictable actions, but still rich and without too much filler. The humour we can find is decent. no romantic developments yet, altough the potential is there. there is a good level of pressure and suspense. overall, a very fair storyline

Character : a strong point of this anime where the main character is not anihilating the others. Various personnalities and ways of acting, fair people interaction although could be pushed further. Healthy and fighting spirit make those characters anything but wimps. They are easy to like

Value : a quality anime that well deserves to be rewatched again. It may appeal to most audiences.

Enjoyment: Very fair. I am looking forward to the next eps.

In short, this anime deserves to be in the top 50. it is in my top 30 already. easy to watch and to get into.

Wow, I did not expect much from this anime but after watching till now, at episode 14, i was blown away. It is soooo good. The first few episodes are kinda like an intro, but things start to get exciting when the first official race starts. Very exciting race, made even better with some finely used CGI.

Artwork wise, abit fuzzy on some characters, but i guess its their way of distinguishing between the status of the people. Example is capeta and his father. Drawn abit untidily so they look more unkempt and rugged. Naomi on the other hand is drawn to be quite beautiful.

Character wise, pretty good. Makes me feel for capeta sometimes, bond between dad-son is portrayed well.

Overall I really enjoyed this very much. Although it needs to be given a chance to build up for the first few kart assembling episodes which I find a lil boring. But after that, it picks up and till now its been a joy ride.

Small spoiler: End of episode 14, they suddenly grow up with the "4 yrs later" tag. Quite a shock for me, but i was really happy. Capeta is drawn nicer, more matured. Monami becomes more "hot" haha. No more kiddy kart racing! Don't be fooled by the picture!

A very good show about a lonely, bullied kid who discovers kart racing when his dad builds him a kart out of scraps. This show is very similar to Hajime No Ippo and Initial D. The animation is amazing! the races are cell shaded and some of the best looking I've ever seen. Its got its heartwarming moments and its funny and exciting ones. A very enjoyable show that leaves you hanging at the end of every episode wanting to find out what happens next.

I'm wondering how long this anime/manga is since Capeta is 10 years old and in the opening it shows him as an adult climbing into a formula one car. Personally I think it would be awesome if the kart racer anime evolves into F1 where everybody grows up.

This is an anime about kart racing! If you've ever felt the adrenaline from playing Gran Turismo. Then you get the feeling of this anime.

This is the story about a boy who comes from a poor family. So he often suppresses what he wants. One day his dad decides to build him a go kart because although his dad is poor he wants Capeta to be happy.

Watching Capeta grow and learn about the world of motorsports and kart racing is a fun experience and can get quite emotional.

Although the characters look 'ugly' to me you get used to the artwork and the CGI on the racing is very well done.

I think Capeta is one of the underrated anime of the year. If you liked sports anime such as Hajime no Ippo you will also dig Capeta!

Race on!!

Vroom vrooom vrooom.....

No, its not a Mazda commercial, it's Capeta, in all it's glory!

This anime is the equivalent to MAJOR, but using cart/car racing instead of baseball. Meaning, there's lots of drama, as well as sports action. The atmosphere is more light, and not as serious as Intial D, so it's fun to watch. However, they do have some serious carting/car moments when techniques and driving styles are displayed, and talked about.

The storyline is great, and characters are pretty typical...aka the aggressive main character, the enemy who turns friend, and the childhood friend who has a crush. Overall though, they're all likeable and play their parts well to support the main character.

This is one of the animes that make me impatient for the next episode. Watch it, and stick with it...you won't regret it :-)

Hikaru no go meets karts!

Young boy Capeta starts driving kart, which is made by his father. His will to fight is amazing, despite lack of money and knowladge... Perfect for anyone, who loves cars or Hikaru no go.

This is the story about a young boy named Capeta who lost his mother while young, and has a father who is always busy working leaving him to fend for himself most of the time.

He is always looked after by his friend Monami, who seems to really cares about him. But that results in much bullying from other boys since Monami is a popular girl. Because of this, Capeta always tends to keep to himself at times in public.

Capeta has a great liking to cars, and one day his father was working at a Go-Kart racing track and decided to get Capeta a kart. Because it was too expensive, he assembled a kart from scrap parts, using different types of tires and an engine from a construction tool and resulted in a Kart that couldn't even drive straight, but somehow Capeta manages to... I won't spoil further :)

Do not let the fact that this is a Go-Kart racing anime deter you, the setting and the story is very good. There is also substantially more drama and character development than racing. So those who like to watch animes for good and deep storylines will likely enjoy this show.

The Animation style is non-standard and takes a bit of getting used to, so no typical bishoujo/bishounen with cute round eyes.

The music track is pretty good and goes along well with the different scenes, the Opening and Ending themes are also excellent, especially the OP.

This series could be categorized as a sports drama, rather than a sports shounen like some of its racing counter-parts like IGPX and Cyber Formula, which concentrate mainly on racing at the expense of the plotline and character development.

I give Capeta a 9+/10. Like I said previously, don't judge this show just because it is about Go-Kart racing. Give it a chance and you'll find it very surprising.
