I might be a little biased where Phantom Quest Corp. is concerned, as it's one of a few anime that have a very dear hold on my heart ^__^
I have watched this maybe 10 times and the most recent rewatch was yesterday. It may be a very short OVA, but it never fails to entertain me and Ayaka Kisaragi never fails to make me laugh. I will state here and now that I have always had a preference for the English language dub and don't enjoy it quite as much in Japanese!
If you're looking for a short, fun anime to watch, then this is the perfect choice ^__^

Phantom Quest was an enjoyable anime. Since it took the idea of Ghost Sweeper Mikami, before watching PQ I read the first volume of Ghost Sweeper Mikami manga to look for comparisons and differences. Since GSM consisted of over 40 manga volumes (I heard the manga is worth reading), 45 anime episodes and one movie, it wouldnt be fair to compare those two. I have to say though that judging from the first volume GSM was indeed more enjoyable and ecchi.

PQ takes the succesfull elements of Mikami, combines them with amazing animation by Studio Madhouse and adds a much better female lead and a more serious and less perverted male helper (a detective). So in terms of jokes the anime doesnt reach the comedy of GSM but it has some very funny moments too, though not that many.

The ghosts here werent that interesting or funny and the other employees of the ghost hunting company hardly say a word.

What makes this anime worth watching, at least once, is the animation and Ayaka. Some action sequences were very well orchestrated, putting more recent animes to shame.

The OP was also very good and the music was OK, though not that creepy.

Overall a good 1,5 hour if you skip the long opening and ending themes but it doesnt have high rewatch value. After reading GSM manga I guess the manga would be the best choice for ghost stories and comedy fans.

Definitely worth a rental if you manage to find it.

Only thing that beats GSM is Ayaka but not much more.

Phantom Quest Corp, was a basic action/comedy/fanservice show. It had just the right balance to make it an enjoyable watch. Of course being a 4 episode OVA it lacked character and background development. If you want to know more about this decent OVA read on.

A very fun anime about a ghost-hunting team. It was quite a while since I saw it, but I still remember it quite clearly, so it must have made quite an impression.

Very good OVA series. Comedy, adventure, a strong lead female, and plenty of ghost busting. Ayaka Kisaragi is truly a Miko of the 90's =)
