Pet Shop of Horrors doesn't stand out in any way. Neither it has a great story, nor brilliant characters, it does carry no moral message either. Also it ends before you actually start getting in its mood (four episodes). It's very well suited for a relaxing evening watch after a hard day of work. Either you'll like it or not will depend on your mood - if you want a challenging brain storming show - it's not for you now. But if you are tired and just want to relax next to the screen - Pet Shop of Horrors is as good as it gets.
If you don't have any good anime on your watch list - you can give this show a shot. Don't expect much, just enjoy if for the way it is, if you'll try searching for faults in this show - you will find way too many to actually enjoy it. Relax.

| This is a good anime. It's brevity is was allows it to be entertaining: it stays fresh. If the series had been longer, I probably would have given it a 5 or 6 rating overall because even though the stories are entertaining, they definately follow a pattern. I also like how you're not really sure of what is real or what is not real, typical of good horror. Just like good horror, it also has some episodes that are happy and some that are sad. The animation is nothing spectacular, but the characters are interesting and the overall story is creative. I hope that they make an anime for the manga sequel.

| this anime was really great. It made a secret atmosphere and it made me thinking what is going to be next. But this anime looked like horror tales for kids. It was litlle strange. It is not scary, but it is interesting.
I love how Count D looked. He was so mystery that he made sense looking pet shop of horrors.
I didn't like that this anime hasn't got ending. something was lack.
But I liked this anime very much.

| The Pet Shop of Horrors manga was one of the best I've read. It had everything I could ask from a manga. When I decided to watch the anime I was certain I'd like the animation by Madhouse and BGM (and I did). What I didnt like was all the rest. Had I watched this prior to reading the manga, I'd have liked it more.
From the first story it annoyed me that they had to cut so many elements of the manga story that made it an excellent read. The story was shortened down.
The other stories fortunately were better and reminded me some of the manga's dark atmosphere. But the main factor I didnt like in the anime was that they omitted the manga's humour and heart-warming moments. They chose only the depressing stories, of which I liked only the fourth.
Leon's autistic small brother Chris and the Count's human-like animals (the manga's highlight) were absent. Also Leon's character was insufficient and his female colleague as well.
It would have been a perfect opportunity to include also one light-hearted story and one story devoted to Chris. The OVAs production shows that they had catched up with the volumes where Chris appears.
They way they did it showed me a butchered manga adaptation.
If you've read the manga watch the anime for the visuals. On the other hand if you like depressing horror stories, Vampire Miyu series and OVA are much better choices.

| Count D will sell you the most incredible, most rare species on the planet but you must stick to the rules specified on the contract, or else the pet shop won't be responsible for any unfortunate happenings that may take place. A detective investigate's customer's of Count D's who have left this world; only to find out that the pets are the ones who cause trouble, not Count D.
There was nothing especially superb about Pet Shop of Horrors, as the animation was quite old, the sound was either not playing or very queer, and I didn't seem to really especially enjoy watching this. I like the concept of this story, but I guess it wasn't executed well enough. THe first story was a quite interesting one, and the 3 following stories kind of lost it's touch, each character losing it's own depth.
Final Judgement- It's alright, nothing that great.

| Pet Shop of Horrors is a mediocre anime. I found the main idea less imaginative than that of an average Twilight Zone episode. Plus, the first three of the four episodes were too similar, much more than the general concept would have allowed.
If you're susceptible to the atmosphere you might enjoy it more than I did. On the other hand, if you're out for gore this anime is definitely not what you're looking for.
Similar to most written short stories in written form the stories in Pet Shop of Horrors are not made to be rewatched. Once plot and resolution are known they lose their point. So even if you liked it you will probably watch it only once. All in all, you won't miss much if you don't watch it at all.

| I liked this anime very much because of the mysterious atmosphere that dominated the series. I was expecting something much worse...with tons of blood and vilence...but I was fortunately wrong! I loved Count D, he really was something ( a bit obnoxious to the poor detective! ). It's not the best story or the best animation, but overall I enjoyed this story a lot, it really captured my atnetion and I couldn't leave my computer until i've seen the last episode. I hope one day I'll have the chance to read the manga .

| After hearing about this forever from others, I finally got a chance to check it out. It was absolutely amazing, and certainly one of the best anime that I have seen in a long time. It truly manages to shock people, it's unique and it's VERY lightly yaoi-scented. Don't let the dopey title stop you - this is an amazing work or art. Why haven't more people seen this?

| From the reviews I read, I thought this was going to be better than it actually was. An insipid anime that reproduces the same thing across the 4 episodes.
There wasn’t much that scared me in this, actually nothing scared me at all, the fact that this was called the Pet Shop of Horrors was misleading, but then again, I never did expect an anime to scare me genuinely. What I found was more mysterious and moody rather than horror.
This reminded me somewhat of the Twilight Zone, with one “horror” story per episode, each with their own set of special character as well as the main characters. Thus there wasn’t any real continuity, that I didn’t like, because the stories themselves were pretty monotonous.
Before watching this anime I didn’t really know what to expect, fairly good animation quality was probably the prize of this anime, nothing else really interested me at all. A waste of time and not something to rewatch. If you want horror, read a manga instead, perhaps Uzumaki by Junji Ito, the feeling of being scared as an audience has not yet been realized by animes just yet.

| A nice choice of tales from the wonderful manga series. It's worth watching just to see Count D come to life, but each of the four tales are told really well and for lovers of a nice bit of "Tales of the Unexpected" type horror stories should really enjoy this short, but sweet OVA series.

| So here is a short little episodic series that, despite what I expected, isn't all that bad. Each episode stands alone with a different and unique story.
Plays out in the same manner that 'Tales from the Crypt' or 'The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror' would except with a wonderful sweet-toothed Pee-Wee Herman look-a-like narrator.
The resemblence to Pee-Wee Herman was probably the most horrific part of the whole series!

| Very nice.
Although there are some creepy parts to episode 1, this isn`t really a horror series. At the end of the first story, you realize that Count D is more than just an evil guy selling monster pets. I ended up liking his character a lot.
Because the four episodes are separate stories, there isn`t time for much character development. I`m impressed at how well the authors depict the Count and, to a lesser degree, Leon in such short snippets.
All four of these fables focus on things important to humans -- things we`d die for and want so badly that they make us delusional. The themes are presented in a non-preachy, matter-of-fact style that makes them all the more poignant. The stories are cleverly woven and quite moving at times.
The animation is older, carefully done, and darkly atmospheric -- well-suited to the series theme. I liked the smoothness and subtlety of the music. It`s consistent with Count D`s personality.
Having just finished viewing all four episodes at one go, I look forward to watching it all over agin. It feels like a classic, with a refreshing treatment of the human condition.

| I heard that the manga version of Petshop of Horrors has 10 volumes.. That pretty well sums it up. The OVAs are simply not enough to show the main plot, the characters (the blonde guy Leon annoys me, but I'm helplessly in love with Count D.. He's great ^ . ^). The atmosphere in the anime is intriguing, it's not scary, but more.. disturbing. I felt really weird and uncomfortable while watching it being alone in the house. It was that atmosphere that made me shiver at times.
Overall, if you're looking for a short anime series to add some dark fun to your day, you're in the right place.

| If you just need to let an hour pass by, I recommend this anime to you. I also recommend that you watch it at midnight or after midnight. It's not that scary, but the stories make sense.

| If you are looking for a horror anime you are in a wrong place,this is more of a bed time story for scaring little kids.The misteries are good,and the atmosphere in the show is thick at times, but it just does not develope from there on.This anime has the potential,but they could have done better eaven if there vere only 4 EP,and the biggest mistake they made were the carecters who had not developed.All in all it was a decent anime with some mistakes and some bright parts.

| To be exact, i don't really know how to rate this. On the one hand, i like this show. On the other, the anime has too many loose ends to get a real good rating.
The series is great for leisure watching, but don't expect many answers from it. The logic is, it's just is, you don't need much explanations. Sort of like reading a fantasy novel where everything goes. First and foremost, note that this anime is spun over 4 ovas with each episode centred on a different story. Each story oozes with originality and twisted concepts, much delight for horror fans like me. Though they are nothing too terrifying, watching an anime that's close to scary is truly refreshing for once.
On the down side, the animation is not too great, and the two main characters are not fully developed. I would especially love to hear more from Count D, being the mystery man he is, but apart from selling off pets and explaining the truth behind them, nothing is revealed about him. Even the detective is just there to add amusement and perhaps some comedy, which i think is not neccessary for a dark show like this.
All in all, i think Pet Shop of Horros is a nice storytelling anime and a great introduction to the manga. Recommeded for those who love to read short ghost stories.

| Interesting anime.With great conclusion in every's part endings.Characters r not very cool except cauntD (which manners r a little bit blue in my opinion)anyway he's the best character in series.Animation is poor but its not the main thing.So i like to reccomend to watch it maybe for its lenght (its only 4 parts).Enjoy.

| Fairly interesting series, nice watch when in the mood for something darker. Always great to see some true "classic style" horror anime, usually you just see sci-fi horror with series like Gantz and Elfen Lied.
All in all, there are plenty of other series that should be watched instead, but as this fills a somewhat empty sub genre in the anime spectrum horror fans will enjoy checking it out.

| The first episode was quite horrible. Don't know from which hell they found it. But the following three were ok.
The strong point of the series is that it creates a nice horror feeling. But I can't really recommend this one because with 4 similar episodes it seems pretty poor. Especially first three are like clones with different characters.
Talking of characters: Leon was damn annoying, Count D on the other hand was great. Animation and sounds are ok.

| This is one of the most misunderstood anime, it's not plot driven, it's not character driven... because it's a feature show much like Tales from the Crypt, the host is suppose to be enigmatic and the plot centers around the short tales... you'll be entertained if you love mystery and horror.
