This is a very weird story. Firstly the main objective of the story is to actually include all the characters of the game and this in itself is bad. The anime should have been like KOF or SF where it gives focused to some characters not giving all some airtime which makes the story not confusing but then why should it even bother in the first place. This is one good action anime and will please the fans of the game.

The world is ruled by those who are known as Darkstalkers, warriors of the night with awesome supernatural abilities. While they do take advantage over their inferior beings, the humans, they're also in constant battle with each other. Darkstalkers aren't really a race; just a term used by the humans to classify the numourous wolverines, vampires, mummies, zombies that prey among the lands. Even then, trust is a risky thing that can't easily be held, causing massive chaos everywhere. Though it seems like the Darkstalkers are in of need uniting, as an even greater evil arises that threatens everything that inhabits the earth.

I haven't played the game nor even heard of it, but I quite enjoyed watching this anime. The characters were quite interesting and show huge potential for a fighting game (duh). The fighting itself is quite fluid and entertaining. Unlike Dragonball Z, where fists fly randomly, the battles feel much more direct. The characters, while lacking personality, are likeable for their models and fighting styles. Night Warriors: Darkstalkers revenge should only be watched if you're into some serious action, and want to take a break from plot or character development.

Though some might be disappointed that the story is lacking. It could have at least been decent, but the second episode gives off a really bad impression of how the series will end. Not saying it's bad to be predictable, it's actually pretty anticlimatic. There's also way too much characters for a four episode anime. It seems like it wanted to fit in all of the characters from the game, even if their appearences are brief. This causes lack of substance within the characters. By the last episode, you might actually be forcing yourself to watch it.

Other than that, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge is a decent show for anyone who wants to take a break for a while. It offers some really exciting fight scenes, and it's a real treat for anyone who played the game. Even though I haven't seen it, from what I can tell, the characters look as if they stay true to its video game roots, not going beyond what they really are.

Oops! I'm in a VERY low inferiority. Why? I've never played the game (shame on me, i know). I've heard about this anime, but after I've read the reviews, I've sed.. no way! (esspecialy because i'm tired of unvaluable anime).
However i was beholden of seen this to a fiend..so? I loved it... not enormous, but enough to keep my attention awake, to enjoy and to want, impatient, see everything until the end. (That's a sensation that i though I've lost it a long time ago...).
I'm not sure what was my opinion about it if I would have played the game (maybe i would have expect too much from it, and end it to don't like it). But going from zero i was very pleased about it.
I love the characters and the art style... esspecialy Felicia (what a babe!). The animation is increased in accuraty during the show, becomeing better and better. The story is not much, but keeped me the attention alive.
It's preety strange, however, that in a world coexist in the same time: old cars, spaceships, sailships, flying castles, medieval men with armour, rock stars etc.

Fighting game to anime conversions rarely produce a decent result.

Unless you're a fan of this series of games it may be hard to take in. At first glance it may just seem like another cool "vampire or demon" anime but the this series not only contains the children of the dark but ROBOTS and ALIENS as well, all coming together in one wacky storyline.

The animation is actually very good, the characters does the original artwork from the game justice but sadly the fight scenes seems to lack any feeling to them which is strange because the characters performs many moves and techniques during them. A majority of them just lacks that "umpf" that action scenes from other animes have. You see Morrigan perform her Darkness Illusion and it's not as impressive as you I expect it to be animated. This same feeling carried over to many characters during fight scenes to me. The series seems to get better with the action scenes the further you get, it last few action scenes of OAV 4 are good, but it never amounts to anything amazing.

The story's main theme that seems to try to get across is "acceptance". Most humans are afraid of the Darkstalkers (or "The Dark Ones" as they're commonly referred to in the series) and most Darkstalkers seem to hate the humans for their own reasons some are just blood thirsty killers but there are few nice ones out there).

The overall story is basically made up of 3 main side-stories that run into one another and affects each other at a certain point. Due to the fact that the story rarely focuses on one character it's hard to stay attach or feel anything for them. If I had to pick the story's main character it would be Donovan despite not appearing until the end of OAV1. I must say even though other characters don't offer much Donovan surprisely is probably one of the best example of showing the "inner struggle" of a half human, half demon/vampire archtype you'll see in a while from an anime.

The anime doesn't explain alot of things, if you know of the game's original storyline you'll find the OAV ending to be total BS but that can be overlooked considering how overpowered the main villian originally is anyways. The biggest problem is that they don't explain Anita's origins at all and she is a very important character in the series.

The soundtrack is awful, forgettable OP theme, generic rock music everywhere for background music, and more generic rock for the ED.

I couldn't recommend this to anyone but fans of the Vampire Hunter/Darkstalker video game series but if you're a fan of half human, half demon archtypes it's worth a look too.

About time I seen Darkstalkers as an anime. Anyway, Night Warriors is the best animated video game based anime I've seen so far as character movement was very fluid during fight scenes and it still looks quite good after being made over seven years ago. The music was quite decent for the themes of Darkstalkers, though like all video game based anime I've seen so far, Night Warriors has some issues with its plot and characters. We get introduced to Raptor and Talbain during Felicia's story arc in the OAV, but we get nothing told about them. Plus, the plot is left open in the ending. I wasn't too bothered with the lack of a presence from minor Darkstalkers characters like Rikuo, Sasquatch, and Anakaris since they had no involvement in the main plot anyway. Night Warriors makes for an entertaining video game-based anime and is definitely at the top of that genre even if it won't be well known many years from now.

Well, I fisrt saw this anime on TV (just part of episode 3 though) and a few years later, I thought in aquiring it.

It's a nice anime based in the Darkstalkers games, in whichi both fans of the game and action fans will like.

I really regret purchasing this series, I'm a fairly big fan of the games but nothing this show does works.

The show rather quickly starts on it's buildup to the final battle, but by the time the battle rolled around I was not the least bit excited, none of the main characters were particularly easy to rally behind.

I guess if I had to pinpoint the biggest problem with the show, it would be that it never really focused enough on any one character to get me caring about them.

While Night Warriors might not be the deepest anime you'll ever watch, for fans of Darkstalkers it's an absolute must see. The most important thing is it feels very true to the game and does each of the characters justice.

The cast is simply stunning, everyone is portrayed with all the cool beyond human style I would expect. We're talking about a cast feature such legends as Demitri Maximov, Bishamon, Donovan, and Lord Raptor on the guy's side, and Morrigan, Hsien-Ko, Lei Lei, and Felicia for the girls. Felicia! Animated! If that's not drool worthy, you're not paying attention.

The story really isn't anything incredible, but it holds up well enough to keep the action flowing. What makes this show worth watching are the amazing battles and the incredible portrayals of the cast. There's nothing like seeing Demitri burst into the scene in a fury that would make vampires like TV's 'Angel' wet their pants. Felicia is quite possibly the sexiest cat girl ever created, and seeing her in animation is simply stunning.

I really can't think of anything bad to say about this series. I loved the battles, I enjoyed the story, and I absolutely adored the cast. I've been a Darkstalkers fan for years, but that doesn't mean I'm being overly forgiving. Even the English voice dubbing is of exceptionally high quality throughout.

Even if you've never played the games (shame on you!), the back stories are given and you can still get plenty of enjoyment out of this OVA. You'll even learn a thing or two about characters you may have seen before but not fully understood. Don't be too demanding or nitpicky, and you're sure to have a good time.

What I'd really like to know is, what the hell were the animators behind this thing smoking? The game was descent, and I thought Felicia and Morrigan were so damned sexy. It's the exact opposite in the anime. Both of them are god-awful UGLY. And NO their implausible (Massive) breasts don't help matters either. Now... On to the anime itself. Lack of story (Nothing new for anime based on fighting games), lack of character development (Nothing new either). The animation is pretty descent for its time, hell even the DUB is pretty descent. Just about everything else about this anime is pretty shallow at best. I don't know what it is I hate more about this anime. The lack thereof of story, or the ugliness of Felicia and Morrigan. I just can't forgive the animators for drawing them the way they did.

Well everything about this anime is cool in my opinion, the story is intresting, the characters are awesome, the animation is amazing...etc Well if you are a fighting anime fan then you should check this out, it's very cool and I am sure you will like it, I by myself like it more than Street Fighter animes, much more fantasies more than other fighting animes... Anime fans will like it more than the games but the game's fans would be missing their beloved character, Jedah... And if you are confused on what to take Darkstalkers or Street Fighter or Fatal Fury, I think Darkstalkers have the upper hand but if you are a SNK fan and a fan of their characters just like me, go for Fatal Fury! but yet I would say Nightwarriors is one of the greatest fighting animes around and I like it alot... Well it's up to you, I am not going to force you to buy it :)

As it is, it's good for a fighting game anime. However, as an anime in general, it has serious flaws.

Storyline? None.
Reasons for characters doing random things? None.
Obeys any existing laws of physics? Nope.
Cool supervillain? Hah, that's a joke.

In fact, this whole anime is a joke. The high point of all 4 OVAs were the fight scenes involving Morrigan... if you don't mind it looking like a taped recording of 'Marvel vs Capcom'.
It might be based on Darkstalkers the video game, but many other Video Game-to-Anime ports are much better than this.
Go watch Fatal Fury.
