Nothing much to write about, as usual from anime OVA that spans for one or two episodes. Or, as usual from Ken Akamatsu's work.

This creator, famed for "Love Hina", and also for his more recent work, "Negima Sensei" decided here to use Christmas and Santa as a decoration for his usual stuff - love-comedy with (here slight) harem addition.

"Itsudatte, My Santa!" tells us a story of a real unlucky boy, who's not only got born on December 24th, but also was hurt by his own parents, who named him Santa. In addition, ever since he remembers, he had lone Christmas, because his parents were always away, taking care of their work.

Alas, Santa despises Christmas. After several years, on Christmas a girl appears, as a ... sort of belated Christmas gift, or a reward for all those lone 24th Decembers. She offers to spent a night with him, because she's is Mai, Santa Claus apprentice and is send here to make him happy.

Well, as You can see from the paragraph above, this title features all the usual from Akamatsu-sensei, including the charm so characteristic for his love stories, and for stories regarding Christmas. And while I will not dare comment the manga, which I never got to see, anime is, by all means, weak.

Things get resolved all of a sudden, without any prior reason for it, story is rushed, characters appear for the first time on screen, claiming they have been here all the time, and I was quite confused by what was the actual message anime tried to convey.

Final scenes evidently suggest, that there is more coming (we have a preview of next episode), and the lack of resolution between two main leads clearly suggests the same. Further evidence is the ending song, that features few characters I never get the chance to see (apart from the song animation, that is).

Those, who have read the manga perhaps may share some light, because as of now I do not have any idea what was the point of second episode. Basically, all that was interesting was resolved in episode one, and it was done in a very inelegant, hastily improvised way. Not only it failed to convince me, frankly - it bothered me with its incoherency. Santa's story even interested me, yet I found him to be later convinced by deus ex machina. Feelings appearing out of nowhere, understanding coming from same arguments that earlier were disregarded as weak, and all that is supposed to convince him? And, for that matter, me?

I never expected seeing anything in sort of character development, given the length and the nature of this title, and I was not surprised. Second episode features entirely new sort of problems, and considering that there is only half an hour, that is pure idiocy. They should rather focus on one story through all two episodes, it would improve my rating drastically, not to mention anime quality. New story also is rushed (no wonder) and ends... with quite a weird resolution. Perhaps due to subtitles I had the nagging feeling that suddenly 'friendship' and 'love' got themselves eniterely new definitions, not really coalescing well with the old ones. This, or mayhaps both Santa and Mai never learned how does a 'friend' differs from 'person I love'.

Summarizing: You got an hour to kill, and are in for occasional laughs, that is Your pick. If not, do something productive, or simply choose better. That is not bad, but it is also not among the titles I recommend to watch.

Im not a big fan of Ken's work, i despised most of Love Hina and Negima doesn't feel interesting at all, but this small little OVA is somewhat a great slice of traditional Ken's work but with a nice charm with it that makes it worth watching.

The story is predictable, characters are undeveloped and most of the 2nd episode are repetitive jokes from the 1st episode, however, the meaning behind this OVA is tried and tested and really couldn't dissapoint. The first episodes sporadic jokes are fun and enjoyable despite being random at the same time.
Of course, there's much to be desired from this short OVA, where most of the points go to first episodes grace and char, and points fall from the second episode's repetitiveness, but this OVA is enjoyable for this time of year and my fave work from Ken that i've seen mainly because its down to the point, funny and just plain delightful for this time of year.

7.5/10
Grade: B

I find this short OVA to be disappointing because this is just a very typical Akamatsu Ken's work. The art style is the same as all his other works, and the story seems to be a copy from his previous works.

The animation, while the quality is top notch, you can immediately notice the style is exactly the same as Love Hina, Mahou Sensei and Mao-chan. You can't see a difference in this anime. It might be good it you're a fan of his work, but I certainly found it to be boring.

Sound is good, especially the theme song and the BGM. It really fits the theme of this anime.

The story and characters are really the low points of this anime. While the first episode is quite decent, with a touching story and some funny parts, the second episode just plain out sucked. It quickly turns into a harem story, lots of plot holes, and a seemingly stupid ending that leaves me scratching my head.

Overall it is a fun OVA to watch and it's a good thing that there's only 2 episodes, or else it would turn into another Love Hina/Mahou Sensei clone.

Although I have not really enjoyed Akamatsu Ken's other works, this one takes me by storm. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I'm watching this on December 23rd, either. :)

It's not that his works are bad, but his short stories entertain me more.

Animation: 6/10 Generic animation style, not much to say.

Sound: Amazing work for a 2 EP OVA, 8/10. Now to go find the single...

Story: Now this is what I'm talking about. This is original...I mean we haven't really seen a lot of holiday-themed shows, so I guess I'll have to disagree with the previous reviewer. That and it doesn't fit the generic model of many shows you see these days, with the 13-26 eps of fluff and coincidence. 8/10, with the originality leading the way. Although there isn't much background given, it isn't needed. Given time constraints it was done well.

Character: 7/10 Oh the irony of the character named Santa. Did they really have to make Mai transform into that? Not going to reveal any more of the storyline, so yeah...

Value: 7/10 Why so low? There is replay value for this...when? Now. The leadup to Christmas in the last few months is the only time this would be appropriate. It seems to be meant that way (esp. given the time it was released on DVD--2005/12/7), and it is not appropriate post-Christmas.

Enjoyment: 8/10 I'm sure fans of other Akamatsu Ken's works will find it most pleasing to the eye and the hormones. It's a cute series and it's earned it's mark in my book. Good work, sir.

This show disappoints me quite a bit considering it's from Love Hina's creator. 'Originality' is what disappoints me most. The animation is bright and lovely but the storyline and the contents with in did not surprise me in any way. In fact, I find the jokes and harem inside the story a bit 'weird' and 'unbelievable'. The characters are well drawn. It's on par if not better than love hina, better than mahou sensei negima in my opinion. There's no OP for the first episode so there's not much sound to actually give a rating on.

The story revolves around a guy called "Santa" who was born on Christmas Eve. He feels lonely every Christmas as his parents don't come to see him. As a result, he hates Christmas and he doesn't believe in Santa Claus. One day, this mysterious girl who declares herself as "Santa Claus" comes over and tries to bring happiness to him.

This story is not too original in my opinion which is why I did not give a high rating. I did enjoy the show however because it had well designed characters and was made by Ken Akamatsu, Love Hina's creator.

It's too early to give a value to the show. I'll save that for later.

I'm looking forward to watching the next episode. I hope the content gets better and I'll consider giving it a better rating.
