A very cute, coming-of-age story that can be enjoyed by all ages and is particularly directed towards the female audience (albeit I know several males who love this series). Unfortunately, it's a lesser-known series; yet, I don't know anyone who didn't like this series. The only drawback would have to be the animation; its contemporaries (such as Kodomo no Omocha) surpass Mizuiro Jidai. Though the plot itself is truly wonderful, making it a gem.

I've only watched 6 episodes thus far, so maybe a review is premature. Still :P

What I like about this series is the downscaled stage upon which it is played, dealing with little problems in a large world, and the events trailing through our adolescent lives. Small issues seems like bigger ones when we are little, which excuses the occasional melodramatic touch this series convey.

The characters are likable, maybe even generic; I don't really like Hiroshi's voice, but I'm getting used to it.

The animation is a bit stale even for a -96 production, and the sound really isn't influencing much, but I try never to let technicallities affect my reviews too much.

Another thing to point out is the rhythm and normality of the show; no excessively haircolored vixens with odd powers sulking after the same guy, no wicked twist in reality; just pure, normal and everyday, which fits this anime. It's comfortable to watch.

+: It's a nice and relaxing shoujo series that is backed up by solid performances in every category, especially audio.

-: It's too soon to tell, though at times, it did drag on with not much going on.

A while back, the main reason why I wanted to see Mizuiro Jidai/Water Colored Era/any other name you know it as is because this is the first series of one of my favorite seiyuu today: Higuchi Chieko. I also bumped into MJ because of Mega Tokyo. As of now, I don't know much about the background of MJ.

Anyway, so far, I have only seen one episode and I must say that all the time I struggled to watch an episode of this series payed off. I like this series. I really do, even though I have seen only one episode.

The animation is actually decent, given the fact that this was made in 1996. The music fits the series. Having Suzuki Masami play as Yuuko works rather well and there are some other seiyuu people will recognize right away. I just named two of them already.

As for the series itself, it is pretty enjoyable. It is just one of those series where you can just snuggle up in a blanket and enjoy. Yeah, there are some enjoyable moments early on, but not much else after that. I won't let it bother me too much though.

MJ is good to keep in the long run. It is sweet and I can relate to some of the characters, especially Yuuko. Maybe you will relate to the characters too.

The Blue-Green Years is an interesting anime, if not for just how quaint and normal it is. The execution isn’t quite what it should have been. This series, while entertaining and involving at times, goes into a coma too many times and makes the viewer go sleep.
The animation seem to have a simplistic and odd look to it and the music is your normal shoujo sound(violins and orchestral when it's dramatic).
I think they tried to make it a slice of life which it would be very good, but other slice of life animes had some kind of things. To Heart was that robot girl and Marmalade Boy had it's relationship problems.
The show was okay, it was just WAY too slow.
