Looks are sometimes deceiving. I was a bit skeptical about this manga at first, but it turned out to be one of my favorites of all time. It is truely amazing manga that made me apprieciate manga very much. Its innovative story (A shy rich girl attached to a school top fighter's "devil hand") is appealing and original. You'll want to cherish this manga for a long time.

Okay, Midori no Hibi is a Great Manga.

It has Really Good Looking Characters. & I find the Storyline quite unique. A 2nd year Student who's Always Fighting & the only Lover he has is his right hand, & Midori comes in and takes the place of his "Devil's Right Hand".

& while being a Romantic Love Story, This Manga is Filled with Comedy & Laughter & SUrprises. The Characters are really Great Too!!! There are SO Many Different Characters & We See Character Development in All of them. I Also like the way that Each Volume showcases Every Character, balancing the "showtime" of all the characters, so none of the characters get left out and are always there to Add Comedy to Midori's Days...That is a REAL Plus Point for this Manga.

I Think this Manga is a Really Worth Your Time. There are even some Heart-warming & Touching Scenes in this Shonen Manga, & I think Girls can Enjoy this Manga as Well. x)

Midori no Hibi is a Great Manga. I've watched the Anime, & Since it has only 13 episodes, it is not as good as the manga since the manga goes More In-Depth, & we Meet More Characters, & More Adventures, With MORE FUN!!! & Probably the Emotions in the Manga are better, in my opinion... It is Very Close to the Anime, So I suggest Reading the Manga before watching the Anime, cause the Anime is just like something that Summarises what happened in the manga, missing out a lot on the funny adventures. Well, 13 episodes isn't a lot, so Yeah... x) The Manga is Great!!! =D

(based on all 8 volumes)

This title is one of the best school romance comedies around. After GTO this comes close (very close) in making me laugh in almost every chapter .

It belongs to the titles that can be read in a single day without becoming boring even a minute. Though I havent watched the anime, I'm sure I dont miss much since the anime follows the manga only partially as it didnt wait for it to finish.

Since Viz is famous for butchering manga to the core I'm sure that I enjoyed the manga much more because I read it scanlated by Snoopycool. They made everything they could for the title to be as funny as possible. I read that Viz used American slang to transfer some Japanese idioms. Not all volumes were published anyway, with the last one to be published late 2006. So if you wait for the story impatiently to finish, you could grab one of their scanlations. Good luck searching.

Now to the manga. It follows the story of Sawamura Seiji, a delinquent 17-year old, always intent to fight (but mostly not without a good cause) who hangs out with his close friend Miyahara (who always gets beaten and kidnapped, waiting to be rescued by Seiji). They watch porn, dont have problems bringing it on school and are happy. But Seiji has one major problem, namely he hasnt a girlfriend due to his sometimes violent and fear-inducing character that repulses many girls. Except one girl, Kasugano Midory, a 16-year old who is very shy to openly confess her feelings. She attends a different school and her grades are excellent, since the school is an elite one. She always waits at Seiji without having the courage to talk to him. So one day all of a sudden Seiji wakes up with his right hand imbued with Midori, making her look like a puppet. Her body though lies in a coma in her room.
From then on the real comedy takes place. Seiji and Midori must find a way to get her back to normal but problem is that Seiji's macho image will be wrecked if he's found with a girl on his right hand. Both try to keep it a secret and try to get used to the new situation. But do both really want to go back to their previous selves?
The manga features many wacky characters that guarantee funny and sometimes ecchi moments, though the ones that steal the show are Midori and Seiji. I havent seen a more funny and cute character than Midori. Her reactions, considering that she's a part of Seiji, when she wants to make Seiji lead a normal life without him doing anything deviant, coupled with his reactions make the manga truly shine. The chemistry works very well so that the viewer is totally immersed in the comedy.
It has some hilarious moments, especially when Seiji wants to pee. I'm sure if the manga age ratings were a little higher the manga would be even funnier.

The design is very good for a comedy, with the character's expressions, especially Midori's causing me to laugh everytime. It has many similarities with GTO in the grimaces but they're used in the manga's unique comedic way

The other characters worth mentioning are Takamizawa Shuuchi, a figurine maniac who has a crush on Midori the first time he sees her and wants her in his hand.

There's also Makinoha Nao, who after Midori is the second funniest female character, a girl wonder, with top reflexes and a weird attitude. Her father, professor Makinoha wants Midori for his own selfish scientific purposes even if it means cutting her off from Seijis arm.

Also Shingyouji Kouta, a friend of Midori, who is also shy and is picked on by a gang of girls. He has also affection for Midori since they are classmates in the same school and he worries when her body gets in a coma. He later shows affection for Seiji too. You have to read that far to understand what this truly means.

Seiji's older sister Rin is a dynamic and tough woman who always beats Seiji (she taught him how to fight anyway) and tries everything to make his life miserable. I didnt like her that much, possibly due to the fact that she reminds me of my own sister.. :P

Last but not least there's Ayase Takako a classmate of Seiji who initially wasnt so fond of his character but gradually she comes to terms with him, even more than she perhaps initially desired.

Later in the manga an American girl, Lucy Winrad, enters school and once Seiji got rid of her American boyfriend -one the funniest manga moments- she has a crush on him too.

The female trio of Midori-Lucy-Ayase and their contest to win Seijis heart are another major comedy factor.

The story progresses well consisting mainly of small chapters where in everyone of them there's a funny situation, though in the last volume the mangaka tries everything to make the ending as happy as possible for every character, so dont expect anything spectacular in the last volume. But there are also some touching moments even if the comedy totally outshines them. Because once the viewer gets so many hilarious moments it is a little difficult to feel sorry for the characters afterwards. The final outcome of Seiji and Midori's relationship is the most fitting one and will leave the readers satisfied overall and with a sense of the most enjoyable manga-reading hours they could spend.
