| Lost Universe is an OK anime. Only OK. It's tries to be funny but comes off more annoying that funny. There are times when it's actually funny but the overdose of sarcasm and cheesy tongue-in-cheek dialog mixed in with the [deliberately] bad acting makes it all seem like the writers and/or voice actors didn't take the show too seriously. Lost Universe is along the same lines as Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop [but nowhere near as cool or bad-ass!] It's about a small group of bounty hunters aka “trouble shooters” who fly around deep space doing odd jobs in order to get paid.

| I really thought this would be something like slayers, but it is not, and very bad thing about hits anime is that it relates a lot to slayers making you can't stop and compare both anime's and really this one is not really that good.

| It feels like Slayers, it looks somewhat like Slayers, it's made by the same studio as Slayers.. but Slayers it ain't. Ths anime falls short on too many levels to deserve a re-watch (some may argue even a first watch).

| This show has a lot of similarities with Slayers. But it should be viewed differently.
In fact as far as the novel is concerned it started just two years after the Slayers novel. It seems the author recognised that the readers werent that much interested and produced only five novels. And only 4 mangas. Compare this to the countless Slayers novels, mangas, videogames, ovas and 78 episodes. The talent of the author lies more in fantasy novels than sci-fi. Recently he created another series of fantasy novels: Cross Nadia. If that becomes an anime it is highly probable.
Unfortunately for Lost Universe, all the mediums (novels, mangas and TV series) didnt meet the success of Slayers. But they have some merits that cant be ignored. I read also the first two volumes of the manga and there we have a completely different story and another character introduced that isnt featured in the series (a little girl).
Since I like also sci-fi movies I enjoyed it quite a bit. There are certainly better sci-fi series but this is watchable.
I watched the French subtitled version from Manga-Distribution. There were some differences with that from ADV. Differently directed intro (it is better than the ADV one) but only one static picture in the end credits music. Also no Eyecatch and no next episode previews. And with French subtitles. It made it a little funnier than with English subtitles.

| Not bad. But when you compare with other same kind of anime, this one doesn't shine with its greatness. I don't ususally give animation a 7, but this one really dissapoint me. The car-chases scenes and explosion(ship) scenes really bad draw and lack of realistism. Also you will see a change of color in some scene I don't know about you guy, but it reall annoying to me.
Only good point in this series is a good connection between the characters and a good well plot. When you watch, you'll see that the story didn't mess up or lack of plan. The show give us a bit of information to figure out thing but it's sure wasn't easy to predict things. I was really surpise at the end and that what it make me cheery this series more than I thought I would.

| The Slayers references you see on this page arn't by accident. This series is actually a spin off from the Slayers series. I think the references to Slayers throughout the series are made on purpose and highlight what to expect from this anime. It is essentially Slayers in Space. But is fairly enjoyable.
Story doesn't work quite aswell as Slayers, but the same qwerky sense of humor. Not quite as good as Slayers but still right up there with the same sense of enjoyment.
Not a must see anime but it is an enjoyable way to spend a night or a study break =). If you liked Slayers I'd recommend you see it.

| Decent 2D animation, but the CG are one of the best considering it is from 1998 (It actually holds up pretty well when compare to Gundam SEED which is made in 2002!). Megumi Hayashibara and Souichirou Hoshi did an excellent voice-casting their repective character.
The story is straight forward if not a bit boring, but every episode is filled with a lot of funny bit. It can be a bit better if it developes a bit more on the romance aspect but the action scenes made up for the lack of it. Nonetheless, every episode has its fun filled moments and certainly it was quite entertaining to watch a few episodes everyday.
Lost Universe is pretty enjoyable overall, but there are a few boring episodes and you would not miss out on anything if you have decided to not watch this series.

| Slayers in space? Yeah, i think previous reviewers who used this phrase was onto something as it is quite accurate indeed. Lost Universe bears references to the Slayers series and has practially the same voicecast. The hero looks essentially like a male version of Lina Inverse and he wields, you guessed it, a sword of light. Being a Slayers fan i should practically fall in love with this then? Well?
Actually, i dont know. Hey, dont get wrong here, it was good and didnt annoy me at all, as some other animes can do. It just felt... well.. plain. Like i had seen the setup and story before.
Recommended? Yeah, sure. Its a good anime, its just not _special_ in any way.

| First of all, I would like to say that I had this anime as a fansub in .RM files; thus, I cannot comment a lot on animation and sound quality.
The series was fairly decent with both high up points, and sadly, down points. If you've got the spare cash, I suggest you go out and buy this :). Just don't watch it with the english dub... It will have the same strain on your brain as trying to suck the World Sphere through a straw.

| Lost Universe is one of those animes that is no hyped but not necessarily bad as well. You got your hero with some super elite abilities and your spaceships and fine women and your super-villians who of course are stronger than the main character. Pretty typical so far. The new thing that LU ibtroduces are ancient spaceships with the ability to think/act on their own. That in itself is pretty weird. The action is good and the story consists in Kane's quest, assisted by Milly and his ship, to defeat his rival ( ooo how impressive). along with some evil ancient ships. Of course you got your Kane-Milly conflict that later develops into love ( nothing new here either).
I'd recommend this to Outlaw Star fans even though it is inferior but not that bad.
