| Kite is a 52 minute action OVA released in 1998, containing explicit sexual content in the original uncut version.
Released in 1998, the character designs and overall style are more dated than an anime released in the late 1990s. However, the attention to detail and animation makes Kite a very good anime to watch. Kite does not go easy on the gore and explicit content, making most action sequences exciting to watch. Kite does seem to go overboard with the explicit content at times, harming the credibility of the storyline. Overall, despite appearing slightly outdated in its design, Kite has decent graphics and animation for an action anime.
Kite has no theme songs. Its background music is average at best, and its voices sometimes sound alien to the characters. However, all those are minor compared to the main problem, where dialogue and sounds fail to match the animation. Although this problem is not present throughout the OVA, the few moments where it does appear significantly damages the enjoyment of Kite.
The storyline in Kite can be extremely confusing at times. The underlying story is quite interesting, and the development, although slight, further enhances the storyline. The disappointing factor regarding the story of Kite would be the way in which it is presented. Explanations are usually carried out in scenes void of constructive dialogue if any dialogue at all, and the ending is far too abrupt for most viewers to follow. Some scenes are also overly exaggerated, damaging the believability of Kite. As a result, Kite fails due to a lack of explanation as it develops its promising storyline.
Characters is another area in which Kite performs less than favourably. The personalities and abilities of the characters featured in Kite appear highly inconsistent. Many of their actions are also unexplained, including both leading and side characters. The occasional failure to synchronise the dialogue with the characters further damages this aspect, contributing to the fictitious storyline.
As an action OVA, Kite contains numerous excellent action sequences. However, its unexplained storyline, inconsistent characters, and overall presentation means it does not have much else to offer than a few fighting scenes. There is a very impressive sequel to Kite released in 2008, but that sequel does not require any knowledge of the original OVA. Therefore, Kite should only be watched by viewers who are solely looking for action anime, or by viewers who enjoyed the 2008 Kite Liberator sequel, and want to find out more background on the franchise.

| I was brought to this anime via Yasuomi Umetsu's Mezzo DSA series and this movie has made him my favorite director. Classic of the Mezzo universe of Umetsu, the action present in the anime will awe anyone watching it. Though it contains a number of sex scenes, it did not seem to make the series at all pornographic to me. Of course this work is only for mature audiences, but it not simply for people seeking a new hentai to watch. The sex in the show serves to advance the plot, and not just for kicks. It adds to the depth of the characters and better defines them.

| (Director's Cut version)
I have to say I liked this title and it wasnt as bad as I had initially expected. If it is classified as a hentai then it is the best hentai I've seen.
What I liked was mainly the character design (not for all the characters I must admit). Perhaps had to do with the fact that previously I had seen Robot Carnival and found "Presence" one of the best short anime movies I saw.
The anime has all the elements I like in dark and depressing title, plus some sex scenes that could have been toned down in order to be more effective. There's also plenty of action. The ending is sad too. The main character and her friend are very good and the police man too, thanks to the design.
One of the good titles. It is rewatchable to an extent. There are issues with the animation but overall this is one of the good titles in a genre where so many animes failed to deliver. At two episodes it has the perfect length.
If you're interested in such animes though, the perfect choice would be "Noir".

| In terms of overall score, this anime almost fails. The animation style is dated. The character designs are dated. And the story is actually quite cliched. And there are gaps in the plot large enough to drive your truck through.
But one thing shines through (and this is personal) and that is this anime portrays a darker side of the human psyche that I found was quite intriguing to watch.
The pessimism, hopelessness and the sheer will to survive that makes a person willingly subject himself/herself to anything grabs at you and (for me anyway) tugs at your heartstrings. It makes you feel sorry for them.
However, apart from that, there isn't much to say about this anime. The running time is too short for any sort of good character development. Though, overall, I did get a general grasp of the characters' personalities, more development would have been great. But given that it's a movie (and a short one at that), the undevelopment is understandable.
The graphic violence and gore didn't turn me off. I had expected as much from hearsay over the years. The sex scenes were actually very subdued. Apart from one scene containing a few short seconds of boob shots, the rest were tame in comparison. It's the suggestion of what's going on that titillates you, not what you can see on-screen.
Overall, I had hoped this would have been better than it actually was. I was a little let down by the overall package, but I felt the story itself satisfied me. It's not great, but it entertained well enough.

| Containing very adult themes such as gratuitous sex and violence, Kite is actually a decent watch, with a storyline that isn't focused on sex, but rather on the plight of a young girl forced to become an assassin by the policeman who investigated the case of her two murdered parents. While Kite is by no means a pure Hentai anime, existing only for the purpose of showing sex scenes, there are 3-4 instances of graphic sex shown in the movie.
The animation, especially for an anime made in 1998, is sub-par. While this doesn't completely ruin the anime, it does detract from the movie, especially the action scenes.
The sound is pretty bad; mostly bad elevator music or music you expect to hear when watching the weather channel at 3 in the morning.
The story is actually semi-decent, and there are a few intriguing plot twists near the end of the story. However, for the most part the story is trite and predictable.
The characters are, for the most part, exceptionally bland. There is little background or depth to any of the characters; we arn't given much reason to care about Sawa or Oburi. There are no flashbacks or insights into their lives other than a couple scenes shot to establish that they kill people. There are a couple interesting scenes between Sawa and Oburi that hint at character development, but neither character is given the attention they needed.
The only other two characters in the anime, the policeman and his partner, are equally bland and one-dimensional. We are never given insight into why they do what they do, how they started it, or why they picked Sawa and Oburi for the job.
There is little value in this anime; worth a rent once, but beyond that I will probably never watch it again, and there are dozens of animes I would reccomend to others before this one.

| At first I thought it was pretty cool... kinda of realistic but then the action scenes were unrealistic which made it unbalanced IMO. The ending is what ruined it for me (although I saw it coming) I just hope it wouldn't happen but it did. Very stupid ending. I want to smack the director or writer person for ending it that way. The kids had enough drama in their lives. CUT THEM SOME SLACK! If I could turn back time. I WOULD NOT watch this. SKIP IT! Not worth it... stupid ending... stupid little basketball kid.
The only good thing is the ending is kinda left up to you in a way. So I ended it my own way. Well for those who have seen the anime. That little basketball bitch shot Oburi with the BLUE light on and the blue light doesn't explode inside the flesh (Sawa had to shoot guys many times or in the head with the blue light on to kill them). So I just told myself Oburi DID survive that shot and at the end it was Oburi that came through the door to see Sawa. YAY!!!!

| The tale of an unwilling child assassin; with the hentai sequences included, this is basically bad sex and violence. The action scenes, while well animated and containing some interesting motion, aren't actually that well logically constructed. The girl assassin is supposed to be an expert assassin, and yet she does some pretty stupid and incompetent things, like overly announcing her presence and generally being extremely inefficient. The exploding delayed-action bullets, while vaguely comical in a gory sort of way, are ridiculous, unnecessary, and purely for effect, like most things in this anime. I give some leeway for action anime, since exaggerated visuals is part of the fun, but it goes overboard here, especially since some credibility would have been essential to making the drama in the story the slightest bit compelling. Of course, there are other problems with the story, mainly that the characters are completely stone-faced and one-dimensional, with only the most basic of dialogue. This anime is just going for shock value, a pure showcase piece with no depth.

| This time around was my second viewing of Kite. The first time was years ago and I saw the edited, dubbed version and thought it was really boring and unlike a lot of cut up anime, you could tell where they'd cut out the saucy bits *lol*
I bought a used copy of the official DVD for a mere £8 and watched the uncut Japanese version last night and I have to say, the Japanese soundtrack is far superior to the dub and even though I found the sex scenes pretty uninteresting, having the extras did add to my enjoyment level this time.
There are a few words that can sum up Kite, namely "gorey, violent, explosive and gratuitous" ^_^

| Kite is definitely superior to Mezzo Forte, which looks helluva similar (let's face it: Mezzo Forte is a clone).
The character designs were in most cases pretty ugly-but pretty ok and consistent animation. Although it seems that people are just blood bags in some scenes.
Kite tells a story of a girl who happens to be an assasin, and a skilled one too. She uses an interesting gun- ill leave it at that.
She's got a police investigator as a mentor and she works for him. Her parents have been killed and all she has left are her moms earrings.
This is a short anime, but has some nice action sequences (shootings, explosions). Also has some violent hentai scenes, which are not enjoyable in my opinion.
Overall its a simple story, short but somewhat interesting anyway. The bathroom scene was a little over the top (you'll see).
I'm not sure on this one, but the video "ex-girlfriend" by "no doubt", was most likely inspired by Kite (i think the proof is in the bathroom scene sequence).

| I came into this anime expecting something in the same viens as a certain Cool Devices episode. With that thought in mind, I prepared my pants for the goodies. Instead, my *ahem* was being exposed to gorey massacres, intense fight scenes, and the ocassional sex. Sawa is a teenaged girl who works as an underground vigilante. When that word appears, you're probably thinking fight for justice, superhuman powers, nemesis's with abnormal bodies, right? Vigilantes are actually bad people, if they kill their preys. But anyways, when she was young, her parents were killed, and a crooked cop took her in. Thanks to his information as a cop, he's able to order Sawa to kill those who are only destroying society. Though quite frequently, she's also used for banging material. Her life was like this, until she met a guy.
The action is sometimes unrealistic, but still awesome. I'm a person who prefers martial artists fights over gun fights, since there isn't much opportunities to make gun fights sweet. But Kite makes them interesting and intense the whole way through. Though other than sex and fights, as well as animation, the other categories in this movie are quite weak. The atmosphere is so emotionaless. There's a certain twist in the end that has potential of being tear jerking, if you actually cared for the characters that is. They could have at least extended it to 1:30 minutes, and add in character development. But the actual story is pretty decent. Overall, if you're looking for a decent mix of hentai and action, Kite is the way to go.

| Time to review this piece of crap as well...
Right off the bat I must say that the animation is horrible in any and all ways possible. Ranging from the ugly character designs(even the sex scenes look like Hell) to the dodgy backgrounds and stiff movements, the animation only manages to be annoying beyond belief. Note to the producers: sex, splattered heads and a lot of gore do not, good animation, make.
From the first part of the technical sector to the second part and mainly sound. Here, it's even sader. The voices are flat...flat as in pancake ran over by steamroller. The parts from the hentai scenes are the worst of all. Calling them "amateur" is giving too much credit. And the music is another piece of natural fertilizer. The sound is plain old horrible in this anime.
On to the story which starts off pretty nice with some assassin moves and some interesting weaponry. Then it goes downhill until it hits a stomp and it just flips over and bursts into flames at the end which is bad...terribly bad. There is absolutely nothing about the story to draw the viewer back...there isn't anything worth watching the story for...not even for the action which is sub-average.
But I do need to give credit to something in Kite that made it a bit more than an action-flick pumped up with gore and sex. I'm refering to the atmosphere of the anime, the darkness in humanity that it portrays. It's beautiful but it's not a work of art. The revenge part seems a bit awkward and the ear-ring motif is about the best part of the anime. unfortunately, because of a somewhat dodgy realisation, the films fails to be stunning and it's just an action flick with a bit of substance to it but not enough to truly make it stand out.
And the last sector of interest are the characters...and interesting is a world I would NOT use to describe Kite's characters. They're flat and boring, predictable, choppy...they're bad(in a bad way). I hated every single character and his/her flatter than a board personality. Sawa becomes boring 5 minutes into the film and only becomes interesting again when she has a well written dialogue with that other guy...forgot his name...than it's downhill again.
My question now is why the heck am I writting so much about this fuming piece of shit...there's no rewatch value(maybe for some for the sex scenes) but not for me. The few ideas that were nice in the whole god damn thing are drowned by the overall shitiness that is Kite. I enjoyed it pretty much at first viewing but after closer thinking about it...I just became angry at myself for not seeing some stupid things in the first place(hint: bathroom, fall, explosion). This anime sucks!

| According to Webster, there are several definitions of the word “shit.” As a noun, the word can mean excrement or feces. As slang, it means worthless. Nonsense. Foolishness. Then there’s the slang interjection “not worth a shit” that means useless or valueless. Kite, a sixty minute piece of crap, fits all these definitions quite nicely. As excrement, the story is remarkably similar to something found in the toilet bowl. The average viewer’s suspicions of the worthlessness of this title will be founded when (five minutes into this crud) Akai suddenly sticks his wong in the main character’s keister. As nonsense, the story is remarkable similar (though not even half as good) as something written by Lewis Carroll.
I suppose there’s revenge in this. Sawa, the main character, wants to find out who murdered her parents. There’s something in here that I assume is meant to resemble love. To Kite’s credit, there’s actually two good scenes in here: both between Sawa and Obira. And yes, they “only” talk. But the dialogue between those two is completely wasted on this junk. I suppose there’s violence in this. Exploding bullets and assasins? Granted. But mind you, it’s badly animated. Kite is obviously an anime with a low budget and it shows by the way heads explode and through the cheap character designs. Not to mention the C level elevator music that sounds like something heard in a seedy bar. In the end, everything from the laughable bathroom gun scene to the incongruous sex screams that this was just an amateur’s misguided attempt at something great. The creator aimed to be as gross and as sickening as he possibly can and mistakely believed that a masterpiece was born. According to Webster, there’s a word for that kind of thing: B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T.

| The most annoying part of this movie was the animation. The character expressions and movements are so flat, it is almost like watching a puppet show... I can literally imagine strings attached to these characters while they move around.
As for the characters, nothing really new. An emotionally flat Sawa (well she really isn't but she looks that way), supposedly "cool-looking" fellow justice person, and a crazy weird detective who has sex with her because he has problems.. Nothing memorable, maybe these characters will sink in to your head if you feel disturbed enough by them.
Sound is essentially non-existant in terms of music. Voices are flat as well. Really doesn't help you get engaged in an already boringly portrayed anime.
As for the story, I think the creator of this must have based this on some weird dream or obsession of his. It is pedophilic...... I think this story is more supposed to show off these hentai scenes more so than developing a decent plot line. ANother thing this anime probably tries to do is show yucky gruesome vomit and blood that really don't enhance anything...
Re-watch value = I wouldn't want to watch this again but some people might if they're obsessed with this kind of psychological weirdness and pervertedness. It is a bit short of entertaining and tasteless to me. Did not enjoy it one bit....

| This was just too sleazy, even for a Hentai anime. The plot in this was less than average, especially from the near ending. I didn't think that it was too bad, since it at least had some action. I could only remember one violent scene when the main character was assassinating some person from the bathroom, which was the only good action part of the story. Extremely bad and wouldn’t recommend this one.

| Entertaining, but nowhere close to artful, this anime is essentially one of the same. Even if you're big into shoot-em-up anime, you might find this movie a tad bit on the boring side. The only way you'll truly love this anime is if you either have a blood-fetish (god knows there's enough blood in this movie to satisfy even the vampires out there) or you're big into -ahem- hentai. Yikes.

| Kite is a pretty good action movie with a few hentai scenes... and in my opinion it would have been better without the hentai parts.
Animation:
Well what can i say? The two main characters look kinda strange to me, but acceptable, as for the rest of the bad guys i'll say it's more like an american MTv junkie hip-hop kinda design, wich i found very good... the background isn't that detailled, but the super funky action scenes more than make up for it.
Sound:
I'll say it's mediocre
Story:
Well the story is well layed out, aldough i wouldn't call it great, but still there is a story between all those bullets flying around.. oh yeah, the bullets and explosions kept me watching this one
Character:
We have Nikita (Sawa) who's the only fleshed-out character, and a few other strange and sick guys out there... not much character developement here... and so i really can't connect with any of the characters and i couldn't care less what happens to them.
Value and Enjoyement:
Well it's short and action packed so i wouldn't call it a miss, since it's enjoyable.. But i did have a few problems with the hentai parts wich weren't really necesary to the story developement at all, i just don't like to mix the main corse with dessert, so i don't like to mik hentai with a serious action.
Give it a try... at least worth for the cool action scenes.

| A very heavy anime, containing numerous *very* adult scenes.
At first sight this anime seems beautifully drawn, but then I find that everything seemed almost too perfect... the characters were so smooth they had the plasticky doll look about them.
The style of the anime is very good, and I felt the story had potential, containing numerous twists and turns... but alas, the story went to waste as the producers seemed more interested in making the porn part than developing the story. Some of the actions scenes were also waaaaay over the top... like a scene where someone crashes onto a car on the bridge, the force causing the car to fall through the bridge onto a truck that's on the road below... which in turn causes the road to collapse and the truck falls through into the underground tunnel where it bursts into flames throwing the oringinal fall guy out of the hole and through the window of a building that was quite a distance away... You may think I'm exaggerating, sad to say I am not.
This is one of the few anime that the end product seem to come out significantly less than the sum of its parts. As a result I'm having to seriously downgrade the score I gave to each rating catergory in order to keep the average down the one I think it deserves... If I reviewed rated each catergory honestly the average would have came to about 6.5, maybe even more.
Highly Recommended for: People who liked Mezzo Forte.

| Kite have some sex scenes which wasn't really necessary, and I think it's lacking in plot.
It do have highly entertaining(yet exaggerated) action scenes, so I didn't loose my time. It was worth a viewing.
Animation is prett ok, the sound effects are great, no music grabbed my attention(doesn't necessary means it's bad). It's short, but I still "felt" for the characters enough to feel sorry for them. The ending was bad IMO.
Be warned that this have lots of gore and sex, but if you have no problems with that, then it may be a entertaining show.

| Dubbed the most controversial anime of 1998, Kite delivers a La Femme Nikita-esque style centering on Sawa forced into working as an assassin and her personal struggle to gain independence feom her corrupt boss, Akai, with another assassin, Oburo. This anime has some stunning animation and each of the gun wars were well choreographed. I would have enjoyed it a little more if the sex and violence were toned down a bit, but since this is a hentai, I guess this was to be expected.
