| Psycho Diver is one of those animes that could have a huge potential but are so terribly executed that they should be avoided at all costs. The only interesting sequence was the actual psycho diving process that took only 4 minutes, depicting Yuki's subconsciouss memories.
The plot, which is based on a novel, is about Bosujima a guy with special abilities, able to dive with the help of science into people's minds in order to help them. But the process is still at an experimental stage and there are some dangers involved. In case the diver is rejected, as it happened to Bosujima's closest friend, he risks his life. Driven by personal motifs Busujima seeks to help a popular singer who's member of an occult group to overcome her problems and start singing again. His closest friend namely was killed by her psychic reaction. Something seems to be controlling her. After the short introduction to the plot the anime turns into a mediocre film-noir. We have a short romance, a car-chase, some action, the final confrontation in the temple of the group and a final psychic dive with unpredictable consequences. All of this in 45 minutes.
I watched the English dub (there wasnt any Japanese voice included). The dub was horrible but if it was in Japanese it would make the anime just slightly better. I think in the dub one or two violent scenes were cut. Not that it would make any difference.
But phrases such as ''I come with a superior brain between my ears and a superior something else between my legs" and ''Thank you and fuck you'' show the quality of the English dub.
I rented it on DVD and I'm glad I did because I regret even the 2 euros I have to pay for the title. I'd have thrown it in the garbage can.
Since it is by Studio Madhouse, they manage to show their talent in the dream sequences, but 4 minutes arent enough to salvage the title. Maybe the novel is more interesting. As it is avoid this since there are better psychological thrillers. Though only the idea was good but wasted.
