This was another of those series I'd bought forever ago and only just realised I had it! I finished watching it over 2 nights and enjoyed it far more than I thought I would.
I think the only reason I bought it was the big banner on the DVDs saying "by the makers of Sakura Wars" and like Sakura Wars, this was a game first and it makes a really good anime too ^_^
It's not often you come across a story where the main characters go to a different time zone/dimension and I really enjoyed that aspect of it, plus there's plenty of eye-candy for both male and female viewers alike.
Definitely worth watching.

Originating from a PS1 game, himikoden sure has unique characters, an unoriginal story, and it feels like it is destined to be a h-anime. This has quality, but it also feels very cheap.

I've seen some pretty horrible reviews about this anime, sigh. People who do not like fantasy: SHOULD NOT REVIEW IT.

You won't find any life stories in Himikoden, what you WILL find is a rich, wonderous fantasy world (this is time 2 of 100 where i'll use the word fantasy in this review, to prove a point).

What we really have here, is a classic story, evil takes over, good fights back. However the premise here is interesting. The energy used by the good to fight (Boca) was seriously drained when Himiko was ejected from their world to another. She eventually comes back aged 20 years (while only 3 years have passed in the current time since she left)

Not knowing who she is, what she is, or why she's in this world Her friend Kutani fights to protect her. This turns into a unique (and thankfully unexplained) situation. How does Kutani become Himiko's protector, and WHY doe he have the power of the Boca? They explained HOW he got it but not WHY.

True fantasy leaves just enough to your imagination so it's different for everyone. There should never be a single way to envison the story in your head.

After watching Himikoden my fantasy-urges have been filled for quite a long time.

Recommendation: BUY IT, don't be a cheapskate it's 12 episodes and well worth it.

Who this is not for: Jerks who don't like fantasy, jerk's who whine when they don't get it and of course just jerks in general.

Failed to deliver in almost every way. The basis of the story is not bad although nothing earthshattering. A pair of students from the present are thrown back in time to save the past from an evil threat. It a bit like flame of recca meets excaflowne meets fushigi yuugi but done extremely badly. There is no character development, the plot is predictable, and combat scenes were horrible.

Himiko was born in an ancient time where there was a war between nations. Her parents were the protector of some silly flame called the Bokka (not to be confused with the vegetarian hamburgers at the super market although I find those more exciting than this anime). Well her country is overthrown and in an accident she gets sent to the future by the will of the Bokka when she was a baby. She returns from the future as a teen with her friend Kutani who somehow inherited the Bokka's powers... shrug. The rest you can guess. There are a lot of actors none of which are presented well enough to care for. The enemies were not very bright and the entire show should have never been created.

It offers enough plotwise to differ itself from the other 'girl comes to fantasy world', but that's about it. But by cramming as much as subplots in 13 episodes they also create it's biggest flaw. You jump from storyline to storyline and that causes a really bad flow of main story. Quite a bit of the rather large cast also have too little time to develop themselves.

It's only worth your time if you really are into fantasy or have a big love for bishojo...

Another girl and guy get transported to another world anime with a twist. While maybe not altogether original, the characters were interesting and the story was good enough to keep you interested. The ending seemed kind of rushed but it still concluded nicely. I recommend it if you like a good fantasy story or if you just like watching kawaii anime girls.
