Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 was to me a small but very interesting and entertaining show. At first sight it looked kind of childish. But it wasn't at all. The plot was actually very interesting since we get to see the "one year war" from the standpoint of a Zeon soldier. This OVA is generally not like the other Gundam shows I've seen.

Though it's only 6 episodes long, it gave me a lot of thrill back. Also, the end is actually very emotional. This is impressive for a story this short.

A show that kinda drags until the last episode. The last episode is one of my favorite gundam episodes. The problem I have is that the buildup episodes aren't very interesting.

Like the series I’ll keep this short.

The animation of this story is not great, but its easily watchable, even now. But this is not about the animation. The difference in this series is that we see the War through the eyes of a young boy.

Al, the protagonist, is keen to talk about the war with his friends, seeing it as some sort of adventure. However it is his friendship with a rookie Zeon pilot, Bernie, that changes this by the end of the series.

Action is a little short, but what there is, is impressive and fulfilling. But it is the ending that grips you (its hard to describe with out giving it away)

Overall, this is a great series and worth addition to any Gundam collection. If you can get past the animation, and lack of action, I can guarantee the plot will grip you.

War in the Pocket. Eh you would have to see other Gundam shows before watching this to actually take a look at this. It started out good. But having the main character be this stupid annoying kid. It's not all bad. And the ending is either stupid or surprisingly shocking when you see it. The animation was good for the 80's. I like the blue Mech. And when Alex (the red headed girl) drive the's Gundam and it opens up with mini gatling guns in it's arm. The enjoyment of it is hardly there. When it use to come on Cartoon Network. This show nearly did put me to sleep at times. So if you can get through a lot of the talking and the kid nonsense. you'll like the fighting. The ending is up to you of course. you just have to see it for yourself. And someone kid that kidd some pants. He's going around wearing koochie shorts! >.<

Gundam 0080 is a fairly good anime. Like 0083, 0080 is short only six episodes, however this does not detract from the enjoyment of the show. Bernie is just a great suppporting character. Al is just an annoying kid, and Gundam Alex is cool. To find out more read on.

Inspite of its age this turned out to be a nice watch. The story at first is nothing to care for, however it all builds up to a powerful conclusion. Something that made me think at the masterful irony presented in this situation. The direction is fantastic as we see war in the eyes of a little boy.. who has little idea of the bigger forces at work and is totally indulged in his own fantasies of how "cool" the Gundams are. Being young also means extremely idealistic when it counts. However war being what it is presents a conclusion that totally .. well agrees to disagree.

Pretty cryptic.. watch and see for yourself what I mean.

Conclusion: Well thought out, one of the better Gundam series after 08th MS Team, perhaps in some ways even better.

Oh my, this was really boring, except for the last episode. That last one made a poignant anti-war message after all the meaningless meandering that took place prior to it. I would just as well they had condensed the whole series into one full-length movie and spared me the unnecessary kiddie rivalries and sneaking around and so on and so forth. It’s an old series but the animation and art weren’t totally dreadful. However the fact that it was a 6-episode series is no excuse for the multitude of totally flat characters that populated Gundam 0080, it was quite a disgrace. At the end of the series you won’t know any more about any character than you did in the beginning and, what’s worse, you won’t even care! I appreciate the attempt to create a simpler and more “human Gundam but this one literally put me to sleep more than a couple of times. It’s slow, flat, humdrum and predictable, I couldn’t get rid of it fast enough.

Another one of the Gundam that has made me cry at the end (others being Zeta and V Gundam). Excellent storyline that is only 6 episodes. The story is full of "should've, would've, could've" questions. And using a child's point of view of the OYW is really refreshing. Unlike other UC Gundams, few people died in this series, but those few people will have made so much impact at the end that it will make you think why wars are always so cruel.

Animation is kind of old school even though this is an OVA. But it really has improved since MSG. Sound is okay, you will either love or hate the OP music, there is no in between.

The story is perfect, the writers can't write a better story in the OVA, it leaves you thinking, crying, and asking questions. It will also tell the younger ones that war is no laughing matter.

BTW, this anime is produced in 1988, not 1998!!!

Very reminiscent of victory gundam not only in animation but also in the way the story can make you feel very much saddened by the end. Though not as tragic as victory gundam (I don't think anything will ever be as tragic as V gundam)it has a great story that keeps you intent on watching. It has a few gundam battles but just don't expect a full on episode after episode amount of epic space battles, the story is designed with the main characters in mind and revolves more on character development than endless fighting. all in all a good watch if you ant a slice of life gundam.

the best Gundam by far, to watch war through the eyes of a child, and in a distant small "pocket" area far from the main battlefield. Which makes the story all the more tragic and the war all the more horrible. Definitely one of the greatest classics.

DON'T WATCH THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET DEPRESSED. lol. I've enjoyed most gundam shows I've watched (excluding G Gundam.) It's an interesting, yet short series. It has a pretty light, happy feel to it most of the time. Then I watch the last episode and I was depressed for like 2 days. That was not cool. Imagine going on a date with a cute girl and having a great time, and then getting kicked in the nuts after you walk her to her door at the end of the night. It's kinda like that.

Overall, this Gundam Side Story is one of my favorite Gundam animes there was. Although the sound and animation isn't as top notch as animes like Macross Zero or Gundam Seed, it is really well done for the time period that it was made.

What it lacks in animation and sound it makes up in story and character development. It gives us a more personal experience of civilians during the One Year War and also shows how gruesome and devasting war can be. The image of a dead kid being dragged out of a destroyed house sent shivers in mine spine, this being the only Gundam anime that has ever done that to me. War, as Aru finds out, is not a game but a much more horrible experience. Unfortunetly he finds that out too late until the end of the show.

There might not have been a whole lot of action but this anime was never really all about destroying and killing and more about the reality of war. I gotta admit though that the RX-78NT-1 looked great and so did the Zaku II (abeit it being a more inferior machine then the Gundam).

I definitely recommend this to anyone, even if you don't like Gundam animes.

Another sad Gundam series. Although it's not as depressing as Zeta and Victory Gundam. This series focus more on character development, much more like the opposite then 0083 Stardust Menory. They made an excellent character development and envolved a very solid theme that war is no games, no good and bad. It's people killing each other. Aru in this series will learn this lesson, in a very unforgettable, depressing way.

Overall, this short series is recommended to Gundam fans, or people who like character development story. If you are looking for mecha action, get 0083 or 08 MS team instead.

Perhaps the best way to show the cruelty of war is not to show battlefields and gores, but rather how disturbingly real war could get.

This anime goes to great length to carry out this belief, and it clearly shows how pointless war is. It is sad to see that Alfred's maturity is gained with a tragic lost.

I recommend this to not just Gundam fans, but everybody else as well.

To end this, I quote Chris from mahq.net

"In Gundam Wing, hundreds of people could die in one episode, and it's meaningless. In this series, one person dies, and it means everything. That is the sign of a good series."

One of the few underated Gundam stories. Like all Gundam anime, it potrays the futility of war and the suffering it brings but with a twist.

Animation quite poor for a 1998 anime but artwork is great. All the short Gundam series and OVA have great artwork especially Stardust memory.

No flaws in the story but its just that its been used before and there is nothing unique except for the tragic end. What puzzles me is the boy's crazy infatuation with war which ultimately traumatizes him.

Great stuff real tragic.

Very nice OVA, a lot meaning in only 6 episodes, definately one of the best Gundam series I have seen.

The animation does seem a bit dated but it is still none the less solid for its time, the sound is ok..nothing great lol.

The story is where this OVA stands out, very well developed with the emphasis cleary showing the casualties of war even in relatively peaceful times. A touching ending, which doesn't pretend to be sad.. unlike Gundam Seed =P.

The characters were very well developed. Each character shone through the whole six episodes with Alfred getting a lot of attention. I wished more time was given to Chris though lol.

Overall a very good series, solid in almost every department and definately one to remember.

The best of the 3 U.C OVA's, and also one of the most if not THE most tragic Gundam sagas hands down. And you don't have to be a Gundam fan to like it. You can totally hate Gundam and still like this OVA. For those of you who hate Gundam, don't let the title fool you. There's very little emphasis on the Gundam, or mecha combat. In this OVA it's all about character development. All anime fans should watch this once.

This is the story intensive gundam. Don't expect too much action, say a fight per episode, but the action you do get is great stuff. With an involving(sometimes slow) story, great characters, and the Kampfer(!!!), it's hard to go wrong. Gundam fans that like some story should check this out. It is one of the better Gundam series/OVA's out there.

Short, but sweet. Gundam 0080 really could have been stretched just a little bit more. This Gundam sidestory has my favourite Gundam universe mecha in it, Kaempfer (Sazabi also looks pretty cool, although I haven't watched CC yet). Basically 0080 revolves around how a little boy is affected by war. Very nicely done with a perfect mix of drama/action. This is an excellent little sidestory and is worth your time. You should have some basic knowledge of the Gundam universe before stumbling into 0080.
