Covers first season, chapters 1 to 40.

The beginning was so awesome with the various monster designs and gory fight scenes, but alas through 40 chapters I got disappointed and more. Moreover, the anime was shit (lol GONZO; see my review of it). The only redeemable factor is Shirayuki Mizore, and even in the manga her presence is nothing compared to the other girls. At the end of the day, R+V is just your below average high school romance comedy - with vampires and other monsters!

Design/Story: In the beginning I was impressed by the villainous monster designs and the small but overarching plot. Over the chapters, however, it appeared that EACH AND EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER IS THE SAME. Crisis appears, nothing happens for 20 pages, characters get dragged into a hopeless situation, then BANG Tsukune removes Moka's rosario and a 2-page single panel removes the threat with a single OHKO kick from Moka's released form. Yes, that's right, you see this in the first chapter and 39 more. Well okay, there is some cool stuff near the end of the season with Tsukune being a badass and whatnot, but my point still stands that you have to wade through 35 or so pages only to see a single kick along with a lot of ink spraying. The art gets kind of dulling as I read it just begging for it to be over. The manga-ka ran out of ideas for monster variety and went ahead with his story (a moment when I appreciated the monster-of-the-month formula), which was good except that fight scenes were minimal and I couldn't wait for it to be over because there is a SECOND SEASON waiting to be read. I'll stop here.

Characters: Everybody. Gets. Annoying. Everybody. We'll start with Tsukune, your average wimpy male lead with no spine and no personality. He later turns kinda cool, but that doesn't make me stop hating him. The group gets friendly as the chapters drag on, so that's some good development. The villains, though, were just stereotypical evil/mischievous archetypes; I mostly hated the student police because of moral issues, which I hated even more when it was dragged into the mess. And I couldn't see Mizore a lot, plus there is no voice so there is no bonus.

Value/Enjoyment: And I am still keeping up with the second season. How R+V got so popular is beyond me. See my anime review for more gory and juicy <strike>critism</strike> ranting.

The protagonist, Aono Tsukune failed high school entrance exams, and the last school he passed was a secret school that monsters go to. There, he met a beautiful girl Moka, the vampire.

In short, this is a harem manga. In the beginning the story is developed as a normal harem anime; He meets beautiful girl monsters, but they have their dark side, such as inferiority complex, vanity, cruel, and so on. However, he opens up the closed windows of their minds and they all fall in love with him...Rats!...a typical harem anime.

However, the story changes a lot later. He begins to awaken his power because of Moka, and he will fight against evils to protect students...yeah, I know it still sounds a typical harem anime...

Anyway, the more attractive point is the drawing rather than the story. Not to mention the main female character, Moka, but other female characters are attractive. Such female characters fight bravely but beautifully (in short skirts) against the evils.

Conclusion: It worth while reading because of its drawing, but do not expect the story too much.
