| Classic shojo anime. Based on one of the best shojo manga of all time. Glass Mask (2005) seems to be doing a better job pressing the details. For example it takes them 16 episodes to tell what 12 could for this series. That's not always good; but from what i've seen it's off to an excellent start. If you can wait i'd see the 2005 series first. At the time of this post only 16 episodes have been offically subbed by Mugen. All the raws have been released. Watch the 2005 series first and then watch the this for novelty. If you're an addict like me you can watch up to episode 16 and then finish it out with the old anime--as their plot is very similer.
Overall one of the best anime i've ever seen. I'm not a big paticular fan of shojo anime, but this series really got me cheering for Maya and cringing at Masumi. I could connect with some characters while others I would struggle to undersand. The story and character development are the star attractions. If you can get past the standard 1984 animation style then i'd definitly give this a go.

| Other than having the most innovative use of bamboo sticks I've ever witnessed, The Glass Mask is a classic shoujo in the like of others of its kind, particularly Brother, Dear Brother. It's melodramatic and doesn't apologize for it one iota. Fortunately, it's melodramatic in all the right places: the fun of the series is guessing what outrageous thing Maya would do for her acting. To be able to fully enjoy Glass Mask, love of the genre is a must. If, like myself, you like the morbid, fanciful type of shoujo, then this is pretty much a must-watch.

| Another great shoujo classic. This is marked as romance, and maybe the manga deals more with it, but there's not much in the anime at all. An excelent drama though, with many simmilarities to brother, dear brother. Glass mask lets us see Maya go from a girl to a young adult in the acting world as she overcomes all obsitcales on her way to being the greatest theater actress of our time. Watching Maya transform into the charaters she portrays is awesome. She brings some very difficult roles to life and even wins a major reward for her rendition of Hellen Keller. Recomended for fans of classic anime, or shoujo.

| Well, to start this review off, the animation is definitely outdated since this anime was done back in 1983. The animation may be a turnoff for a lot of viewers, but if you're able to look past the sub-par artwork and into the core of the anime, you'll definitely enjoy it for its story.
The story is very interesting, it tells a tale about a girl's journey to her dream of becoming an actress, every episode is well done and managed to keep my attention throughout the duration of the show. There are some plot holes concerning the whereabouts of Maya's mother at certain points, but it wasn't anything big.
The characters were all very well developed, seeing Maya evolving throughout the story is definitely worth the time.
Even though this anime is labeled as a romance genre anime, I must say that there isn't really much romance involved, maybe the manga dwelled more on the relationship between Maya and her love interests.
In the end, this anime was very enjoyable, and definitely worth the time of anybody who's looking for an anime with a good and engrossing story.

| If you're into shoujo anime, you should take a look at this one that's dated back in the 1980s. While it does not have the wonderful CG and high quality animation, the story itself is nicely developed and sweet. Don't turn this one down because of the art, because I was the same at first. I really want to give this one a high rating but because it was made more than a decade ago, the art is only decent.
I like this series because instead of throwing you complicated love relationships, the story has a point. The girl wants to succeed in becoming an actress and in doing so, must encounter hardships. The characters are well developed and I'd give it a go if you'd like to try a different taste.
