time...... well wasted..........This is truly truly one of the worst pieces I 've ever saw. This anime is poorly set up, background, plots, sound everything. There would suddenly be these new ppl comming out of nowhere at the end of the anime. And the dialogues are like this, "I hate you! you mofo! then I still love you. I accept you." I mwan what the hell does this acceptance mean? And are they having horrible PMS issues? This anime tries to be way too pretentious. It tries to add too much depth into the story or plot. Which does not have the capacity to do so After finishing this I was pretty confused. And the ending ....... Man i should really get a better life then to watch these things.

Simply put: Avoid this show at all costs.

This is not a show for mecha fans, anime fans, or any one with higher cognitive functions. The plot is horribly disjointed, the dialog is random, and the art quality is low. This show switches genres seemingly at random, and takes with it any character development that may occur.

The art quality is low, and the mechanical designs are uninspired (The main character's vehicle is ripped right from Tekkaman Blade). Truly a terrible show all around.

24 f___ing episodes in as many hours have made Mappy something something....

Rah-Xephon. Argento Soma. Brain Powerd. Overman King Gainer. Four shows that attempt to do, basically, the same thing, in descending order of merit. Indeed, each show could be seen as several degrees inferior to the one that preceded it.

At the bottom of this list, if I were to make it five titles, would be Platinumhugen Ordian. This series does almost everything wrong, right from the get go. Indeed, each episode compounds its sins, showing a total lack of care on the part of the writers. To think that anyone could have written this mess is almost beyond belief.... One should hope they never work in the world of television scriptwrting again.

What, exactly, is so bad about this show, in its minutae?

Well, first of all there is the plot. It is made up as it goes along. I've never seen a clearer example of producers failing to display any forethought about where they want the show to go. Except in Stellvia, and that is pretty much forgivable, since it doesn't have any aspirations.

Ordian does. We're dumped into the middle of something that doesn't make sense, and it moves on from there. Yu and his senpai are talking to each other, discussing where their lives are headed after Yu has been beaten up. But it doesn't make sense because nobody would talk in the expositionary way they are talking (and they circle a whole lot of material without ever really getting to the point).

Then senpai is arrested by MP's for going awol, and Yu decides to "check out" the IMO, despite the fact that this is a major military organisation and he's just a civilian. And as a civilian, he gets to check out almost everthing within the IMO, inluding the piloting of an extremely dangerous mecha in a practice combat situation. Good thing their security is really tight.... Wouldn't want any terrorists walking in off the street and getting their hands on one of those, would we?

Of course, this is all just a conspiracy, more of which I shall espouse later.... And in that sense, all of this _should_ make sense, but it doesn't in this context, because the show is presented in a matter of fact, this-is-how-it-happened way, and none of the characters who are part of the conspiracy are acting as if there is one. And this episode is the most intriguing....

It would be nice to say that this is because the producers are being subtle with the plot. But subtlety is something with which this show has little in common. Everything is hammered over your head, repeatedly. The episode where Wolf is remade into Kurt could have taken place over five minutes, instead it is a good 2/3 of the episode.... And speaking of a lack of subtlety....

Characters are introduced with all the subtlety of a crowbar through the skull:

Witness Nel Makumahausen, 1337 mecha pilot, who base jumps from the top of the IMO base into her mecha simply as an introduction to her new comrades. She then proceeds to be sullen, sulky and overtly mysterious for the rest of the series, at least until the writers can think of a good reason for her to be.

Wolf is turned into a comic book villain almost because he has been made to look as much in the opening titles. Like, whoops, we better live up to the promise! Then we can have him spouting Nordic mythology to our hearts content. I'm getting pretty sick of hearing the word "Ragnarok" being mashed up in anime....

And Yu's sister, who seems to think that everyone will accept the fact that having the Kananase name is simply a coincidence (and she's right, mostly) who spends most of her time flitting between one conspiracy and another, being a general bitch to all those around her (especially Yu) and then expects us to feel sorry for her when everything starts to go pear-shaped, and she turns out to be little more than a mecha-controlling widget etc etc etc....

In fact, when one can count the series' standard, annoying, squeaky-voiced main female character as the most sympathetic, you know you have a problem.

Then there are those in charge of the IMO and the American military forces, who seem to spend most of their time running conspiracies.... because they CAN. Bwaaaaahahahahahahahaaaaa! We're so eeeeevil. Time to treat the main character like a piece of meat again. Bleh.

The character designs are (primarily) by Kotobuki Tsukasa, whose efforts tend to range between tolerable and downright fugly. In Ordian, he has a co-accused (Sai Fumihide), which has obviously counteracted his tendency to create caricature over design.

They aren't that bad. They are certainly distinctive: you can't mistake one character for another. Except when things get a little complicated, then it all starts to let you down. There is a point where Yu's sister seems like little more than a variation on Nel's theme.

And nobody seems to notice that Nel has purple hair and gold eyes. At least, nobody who isn't part of a conspiracy, that is.... Typical.

The animation itself is pretty low grade for a series made in 2000. I would have expected something this poor ten years earlier, where it would have been standard.

I almost get the feeling they're trying to emulate the style of mecha shows of that time (the "youth with mysterious past pilots mecha genre" which has made a big comeback over the past few years, especially after Eva) but it just looks cheap and ugly in comparison with its contemporaries. Compared to this, the look and designs of duds like Brain Powerd and King Gainer are positively exotic.

The opening title music is absolutely awful. It made me cringe every time I started up a new episode. It sounded like a dodgy mecha series theme. The end title music isn't too bad, but the bgm in most episodes was hardly groundbreaking, and at worst cliched and annoying.

I spent a whole year getting my hands on every episode of this before watching it, practically, in one sitting. Maybe I shouldn't have, as these shows are meant to be seen on a week-by-week basis. But if I had done it that way, I'm sure my enthusiasm would have petered out rather dramatically after only two or three episodes. So I watched it all in one day, and suffer the mental scars.

I cannot recommend Platinumhugen Ordian at all, to anyone. It has taken me a while to find a long series that is this awful (at least, one that matches Samurai Deeper Kyo in its awfulness) and I'm sorry to say I was looking forward to seeing this one, after having seen all the artwork in the magazines....

This anime is definatly not the "attention getter" I was hoping for. The show definatly could have done better, even if the animators only spent a little more time drawing the episodes, which had a definate lack of quality. I also found a lot of trouble trying to follow the plot of the show, which kept bouncing back and fourth between a "drama mecha" and an "action mecha" -- which I found to be very confusing.

The Robots are ok looking, although not as cool as Evangelion and Gundam Seed. The story is very eva-like. Don't really like the way the characters are drawn.

Watch only if you need to watch a mecha anime to kill extra time else forget it.

Animation:

with an good amount of artwork and a weird but not a bad character design a good amout of shading it its Animations is up to do the task. however everything else seem to be lagging

Sound:
an oke introsong wich is beeing followed iwth one of the worse seiyuu preformence ever! the animation sound voices dont fit in anywhere. the background music is rather dull and most tunes are beeing reused OVER AND OVER.

Story:
with a good start it all didn't seem so bad. the music dídn't yet ennoy me the characters where just up to do the task. the first 9 eps are quite good. with a good cliffhangers they do an oke to good job. then after ep 9 we get a constant mouse and cat play wich didn't feel good. the thing that kept me throught was Nell shes the best. mysterious and sexy thats the way we want them. the ending is like mission done not spend any more time credits or a specail end no happy cheesy moments. no boom we defeated the enemie and turn it off. lights off, anime closed, mission complete we screwed up an other anime. also everything was way to obvilious and there were bearly any twists. with a bad amount of scene the watcher get confused. not a very good thing and didn't kinda work

Character:
why is it in anime that all girls have perfect tits :S. the main character yuu kinda sucks. wolf was interresting only with his "curse" totally destroyed. Nanny was just roundout boring. Nell was nice shes good if only the anime was about her and her sister.

Value:
i can continue to insult it. i say dont buy it... dont watch it .. even dont download it. i didn't even started about how much was borrowed from NGE

Enjoyment:
i need to say the beginning was good.
the rest sucked and Nell rocks but this is just not enought to make a anime succeed

OMG... so many naked girls on this series, wtf... its like a god dam ecchi thing going on.

The Story is I think trying to be like Eva, but even More X rated. >_< With a corny storyline, and weak characters makes this not even worth the time watching. =p

For all of you mecha / eva fans, avoid this one, itsa Sooo... disappointing it'll just waste your time and money. =P

This show has beautiful animation, and wonderfully interesting characters. However, putting that aside this anime offers very little ease. It seemed that the writers wanted to have a very intricate and complicated story line, with lots of revelations with deeper meaning. Something like was done in Neon Genesis. However, the magic that happened in genesis just wasn't there.

The story just didn't come together very interestingly and a lot of the technology and the science just didn't make enough sense to be believable. I watched the entire series, but I only found a few episodes enjoyable.

This MIGHT be worth a watch if you like cool mecha design, and lots of pointless nudity, especially in the last episode.

It's like Evangelion, except:

The Upside:

Tons of naked girls.
No Shinji!

The Downside:

Makes way, way less sense and the characters suck in comparison.

Good idea, execution contestable

When I first saw it, I couldn't believe that it was done this millenium. The drawing style and opening music reminded me of the early gundams and of galaxy express.
the only thing that kept me watching was the splendid fights early on and the fact that characters really had characters. This kinda told me, together with the 3d figure in the interval that this was not from teh 1980s.
It is too early in the series for me to say if its like evangelion. But music and art wise, the older evangelion kicks more ass. Character and entertainment value would be about the same if you factored out the art and the music.

Summary: watch it if you can bear the music and the art.

Giving tribute to 1970s and 80s mecha is good, but making NEW year 2000s anime
requires NEW elements to be incorporated, that's what creativity and making progress is about ain't it?

It started out looking like it'd be like most recent masami obari type mindless action anime like that of Battle Arena Toshinden and Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer, but I was pleasantly surprised at the developments that did take place in the story. Throughout the series, Yuu struggles and you watch as those struggles affect him. At first he comes across as a brash happy-go-lucky goof-ball but as he goes through the intensive training and experiences the horror of war he changes dramatically. It's interesting seeing the parallels between the anime's take on war and also Operation: Iraqi freedom. It even depicts the conflict about protecting troops versus protecting civilians. Vietnam veterans may have a nerve touched by Episode 7's depictions.

The first episode shows a titanic battle between Yuu and his best friend at IMO in a dream or flashback-like sequence at the very start, which seems to turn a lot of the reviewers off. It did the opposite for me. After seeing that I really wondered what would happen not only to Yuu but the other characters that such a thing may come to pass. I can't wait to find out.

If you're willing to endure masami obari's animation style (It's really not as bad as some people make it out to be) you'll find an engrossing plot and dynamic characters behind the cover.

The overall idea was fairly ingenious and novel...but...they didn't carry it out as well as I thought they could.
Just by seeing the opening...you will have second thoughts about watching the entire series. Hentai-like female figures (repeated several times) along with a horrible opening theme just slash the entire anime into pieces.
If you want a complete review refer to the ones below. My basic message is that the overall idea had potential, but was carried out in a sub-par manner. Hence, do not watch it unless you are ready for disappointment...

It's especially hard to enjoy a show when the show is really bad. I don't know where to start with this show. The robots are kind of interesting to look at, but the characters are drawn kind of awkwardly.

The story? I'm not really sure, it was kind of hard to understand since the show didn't make much sense. There are a bunch of characters who pilot big robots, one of them turns into a bad guy and gets his hands on one big ass robot. The good guys also end up with a big robot, and they end fighting. Yup.

This giant robot show seems to have more emphasis on the gorgeous character designs. The boys are "pretty boys" and the girls have gravity defying bouncy breasts and sleek bodies. There seems to be a plot steeped in political mystery and intrigue. A unique Giant Robot show in the many Evangelion wannabe type of mecha shows.
