| This one was recommended to me by a friend, and it hit well. I really enjoyed this anime. The story line was very real and easy to relate to. A very girly anime, but also very honest. I’m not quite sure what drags me back to this anime over and over again, but I really liked it. The ending was very true. It hit a lot of relationship issues, and I mean real ones. The art work was beautiful. I actually went out and bought the soundtrack to this anime because the music was great. A need to watch anime.

| Future. A subject extremely important for the people who are about to graduate from school. Am I walking the right path? Have I chosen the right future? Does studying well really guarantee secure and happy future? Are parents really 'always' right? Uuuh... If I feel better carrying boxes than studying, is it really logical for me to take on the top universities' exams? O_o
Paradise Kiss is one of the best anime shows portraying the absurdity of our world's educational system and pitiful stuck up parents, who drive their children to suicide. "If I have failed, I have to make my children achieve my dreams!", certainly a dangerous thinking, I mean, your dreams aren't necessary the same as your child's... It's actually quite funny that I lucked out to watch this anime (about a girl who hates studying, but is declined to search for her true path by her parents) now - for I am about to graduate from school myself. Seriously, both parents and children should realize that studying for ten hours a day, wont bring you happiness... Quite frankly, the fact itself that you have to study ten hours a day proves that you have no love for studying, for that if you were to love it, you would memorize all that stuff in one hour at worst. I find it pitiful, even annoying seeing people torturing themselves with the things they don't like, only because they are forced to do so, because of others, for example parents. It's funny, how I, and some of my classmates, spend little if any time on individual studying, despite attending one of the top private schools in our nation and preparing for world's top universities (yes, Toudai, here I come). Simply, if you study for the sake of knowledge, not for the sake of money, or that someone is telling you to do so, you will both memorize everything well and get the kicks out of it. I mean, a few thousands of years ago in ancient Greece studying was the most interesting and respected leisure activity. Anyway, this is what this show is about, though it's not a masterpiece, the idea of being forced to undertake useless studies should touch a lot of people, who haven't graduated from their high schools yet. Though, on a subjective note, Paradise Kiss certainly has missed me personally... Seriously, rather than thinking, "oh yeah, studying's the crap, give me more make up and I wanna design clothes and be a model, yeh", I was more like "Oh man, sewing clothes? Being a model? Three hours to make your hair? Now talk about boring... I'd rather read through Mader's Biology all over again... Uh, 'again' hurts... >_>
Anyway, even though this show is especially good for still undergraduate, but already close to, students, it can easily be recommended to many other audiences as well. Characters aren't bad and the story, even if you cut out all the "I'm forced to study emotion" is still quite interesting, from the romance standpoint for example. So in the end, if you have no masterpieces in your 'to watch list', go for Paradise Kiss and you wont be disappointed.

| Paradise Kiss is one of the few animes that deserve to be described as flawless. From the beautiful animation, to the heart-warming story, this series executes its purpose with effortless perfection.
Straddling between elements of realism and dream-like extravagance, Paradise Kiss pulls its viewer's into the life of a high school girl turned model. Although the premise may at first seem contrived, the storytelling transforms ever girl's dream into a story of escaping routine and finding happiness.
For anyone and everyone who has ever felt trapped the routine boredom of everyday life, Yukari's feelings echo the secret wish to run away. Coupled with oddball characters, this normal high school student finds her own definition of living her life.
It's hard for me to rate any aspect of this show below a 10--from the fantastic animation and great voice acting to the masterful storytelling, Paradise Kiss is perfect. If you liked Nana, you'll love this short from Ai Yazawa.

| Paradise Kiss remind me greatly of Hataraki-Man for the style and the type of relation present in the story. It’s easily the kind of anime I research for the involvement of it’s characters. The final impression is one of great enjoyment and important realizations. I was facing important dilemmas and reactions of my own through the whole story. I’m quite happy not having fall for the title which is easily troublesome at first, but it easily one of the best anime of 2005. I was torn apart at a point and I was paralyze by pain. That’s the kind of thing I seek with Japanese animation, things that make you grow to another level, realizing that your life is going the wrong way and that you need to seek for something else. Don’t fool yourself, the characters aren’t getting a better life than us, they deal with their problems the best they could, but you learn from their mistakes. It’s one of the ways you learn from what you see in this anime, the other one is by taking notice of every little aspects of the relationship during the whole anime explore.
For example, on the second episode we got to notice the reaction of the main character toward sexuality in a scene a little too ecstatic. The main character later confronts her new friend and she got to learn that her boyfriend was a childhood friend. She continues by showing her pictures she took during all these years… all this to say that it was one of the moment where you feel bad toward the first reaction of the main character and because your own life isn’t in a picture book. For my part I hate to be taken in picture and I was feeling bad for having no trace of my past. This anime is full of these little things that make it so unique like Hataraki-Man that I also suggest you to see AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If you like these kinds of things that can make a little difference in your life, you should watch this anime. You will easily watch it a couple of time.
Not to spoiler the ending, but let’s say that the end is troubling, not because it’s incredibly sad or anything like that, but because it’s so real for every one of us. You will only notice the reality of our choice and our dream… and the cost of it. Where can you go for fulfilling your dreams? For a lot of us it’s a question hard to answer, but for me it’s easy and I know I could sacrifice everything… but if you believe so, you will need to confront reality sooner or later. For my part I know that I can do these sacrifices, but it doesn’t mean that I will not miss my past and my ancient situation. Sacrifices are hard to do, but if you have sacrificed your whole life for your ideals, repercussions will occurs and you will need to face them someday.
Your choice will alter all your life, your family, your friend, your beliefs and your future life. If you think I’m getting out of the context, you couldn’t be more wrong. Everything of this represents this anime and this is the reason why I am really giving my honest opinion about my experience watching Paradise Kiss. I don’t usually give good mark to anime in general, because I really need to be impressed to fully appreciate something. My final words overall will be to spread the news about the greatness of Paradise Kiss.
That is what I seek in Japanese animation.

| Paradise Kiss is one of my personal all-time favorites. I've recommended it to dozens of friends, anime fans and non-anime viewers alike, and they have all enjoyed it. A shoujo-type slice of life series, focused on character relationships and life lessons, Paradise Kiss has something for everyone. It's got a few great comic moments, but much of the humor is very subtle. It's a great series for people who don't normally like anime but are into romance, dramas and independent films. I loved everything about this series, and highly recommend it!!
PS. 14&up warning because the original Japanese version has some slightly graphic sex scenes (no nudity, but you know exactly what's going on if you get my meaning...o_O), so you're warned (although they may have cut this in the US edition--can't remember).

| This anime is very good, but the target audience is very very specific, and sadly I fall outside of the target audience. its about a high school girl with her fashion designer friends trying to make their dreams come true. There is some romance in it. Nothing that spectacular though. This anime seems that it has been made with girls in mind, specifically those who like fashion trends, a slight hedonism and soap opera shows.

| this show gave me mixed feelings after watching it. having read the manga, i might compare the show to it here and then so u might hav to refer to the source material.
the show itself has excellent animation imo, compared to the many generic shows that i have watched. the OP and ED songs were also gr8 in my opinion, catchy and not realli repetitive. although this show's story is centered around fashion, i can safely say it is very user-friendly to those who do not follow fashion trends and such, example myself >.<
i felt that the show was cut a little short, since the ending in my opinion could have been done better seeing that that they could have extended the ending by mayb one more episode or something (like nana). also, the show leaves u hangin at the end, which is why i would recommend you to read the manga. it explains a little more wad happened at the end.
overall, this was a superb original anime that i hav rarely come across this few days. i would highly recommend this to those who dun like generic animes and want to watch something unique and different for a change.

| Once you get past your teens, you may question why you still watch anime - until you run into shows like this which are pure entertainment, but still true to life. This show will probably make you think of the kinds of relationships you've had in your life and your first love.
At heart the story of a fairly serious girl (Yukari) who studies hard but feels like somewhat of a faliure because of her mother's high expectations (despite her many accomplishments.) Yukari is unexpectedly drawn into the world of fashion when she's 'scouted' on the street by a spikey haried guy with many piercings who turns out to be part of group of students in college studying fashion - Paradise Kiss - who are on the lookout for a model. They turn out to be the most unusual buch of characters, almost a family unto themselves and Yukari gets drawn into their world very quickly, to the point where she's considering dropping out of her prestigious prep school because she wants to be part of their world and is falling in love with George, the leader of Paradise Kiss.
If you're 18 or remember being 18, you know how badly you want to part of the world of adults that you see and can taste, but aren't quite there yet.
The love triangles are interesting and just when you think this show is going down the path of silly misundestandings and jealousies being the opponents of true love that you've seen in other shows, this anime shows you more of what happens in real life, and you feel like you're maturing with the characters.
Voice acting is first rate, and my initial reservations about Yamada Yu (Yukari's seiyuu) gave way to an understanding of the character. The music and animation are great too. For those interested in the background of this show there are two manga series with the longer one being about Miwako's older sister (set before this series) with other chracters popping up as kids in that show, unsuspecting of what's in store for them.
Despite it's short length - 12 episodes - the ending will leave an impression and make you think about the show and the characters (all of them fantastic) long after you finish viewing it. Recommended for fans of unusual, mature and romance shows. If you like this show, I also recommend Honey and Clover and Nana.

| Paradise Kiss is a must have in any otaku collection. The story is amazing. I love how they made 12 episodes so meaningful.
The best part of the anime is the message it sends. You follow in the footsteps of a misguided girl, that eventually finds her meaning through the meeting of a couple of eccentric friends.
The characters are awesome, and they all play thier roles to perfection.
My personal favorite is Tokumori, even though his role is much smaller then everybody else in the anime, his character is special to the main. You will see what I mean.
Also for the bad ending, what does everybody mean!!!!! I loved the ending, it was perfect for me. I guess because I am older and I have seen so many lovey dovey animes, that an ending that finally makes sense in the real world is a great ending for me.
So don't hesitate download this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or get your hands on a copy anyway possible, the anime could teach you some things.

| Paradise Kiss is one of those series that truly touched my heart in the scheme of a romantic series. Based on the manga by Ai Yazawa, Paradise Kiss, or affectionately called Parakiss, is a series about a young prepatory student named Yukari who finds her life rather uneventful, while following her strict parents in terms of gaining a quality education. Yet, when she encounters a rather lively group of designers, a group known as "Parakiss", her life and direction changes completely. These designers attend a local art school and want Yukari to join their group as a model. Little does Yukari realize how much this group will change her life's outlook, and that she'll harbor a rather sweet, seductive relationship with one of the members, George, a man with an eye for design and a seemingly "bad boy" image. Add in a punk rocker (Arashi), a designer who looks like a little kid (Miwako-chan), and a rather eccentricly dressed stylist (Isabella), and you have the rather unlikely bunch from Parakiss.
Animation standards are quite good, at times beyond the standard for the time, but I was put off in some places by the inconsistent design of the characters (SD formations included). Music is quite fitting to contemporary times and the model-esque atmosphere of the series, and I loved the quality of the voice acting in this series: potent and especially well done when the drama kicks in full gear. The story and characters are among the most endearing aspects of Parakiss, though I must say that the latter part of the series disappointed me...the events were quite rushed in retrospect and did take away from how much I enjoyed the series in some modes, especially compared to the manga.
Still, this is one of my favorite drama/romance/slice of life series to date, primarily because it's so unique to most anime series; it really does have a Western appeal to it in modes, and I think that's part of what I liked within it in terms of stylistics.
One word of note: this series is a rather mature shoujo/jousei series, with some sexual scenes and mature content not intended for younger viewers.

| Paradise Kiss is an inedpth story of basic and amazingly realistic human emotions. The whole story is set in modern times, where Yukari (the lead girl) is eyed by a group of students (aka Paradise Kiss) and is somewhat pressured to become their model for a school fashion show. The story has a bittersweet ending though; so for those who love happy endings, this anime is not recommended for you. A must-see for all angst fans.

| Paradise Kiss first looked like an average anime for me, but then again, most animes fool me. This anime show is really realistic. Dealing with problems some people in the world have right now.
The animation were pretty good. There were some realistic views of Japan's Cities. Colors were used very well and were used to set the mood of the setting. Overall the animations were bright and smooth.
The OP for this anime was pretty good, but the ED song, wasn't really my style. There's not that much background music playing during the anime, but that's ok. The voice acting for the characters were average at best.
Paradise Kiss is about a girl named Yukari, who discovers she wants to be a model. She goes away from school and enters a different world that most people aren't used to. Their she finds new friends, new hobbies, and she finds lots of drama and the love of her life.
A crazy set of characters with a whole bunch of crazy hair styles. Yukari meets a whole bunch of cool fashion designers. All of the characters she meets are very intresting and each have a different past and problem to deal with.
Once you watch it. You might not watch it again, you may even forget about this anime. But still a very good anime overall, with a realistic story and a realistic ending. Most people might not like the ending, but I thought it was great since it shows the true nature of life at the very end.

| At first, I find this series to be totally odd, I don't know exactly why, maybe because of the characters, there's a punk with pierced earrings all over his face which is sewing a dress, there's a pimp looking male, a girl locked in her childhood form and a gay wearing extravagant dresses, but what's so weird is the intro part, there were scenes showing worms and weird looking creatures! I was supposed to stop right after watching the first episode but 2 fellow members in the forum advised me to continue watching, and I'm quite glad that I did, sooner I found out that it's not as weird as I thought it will be. And this is one of the few series which I quite enjoyed watching without liking any of the characters.
The story is about a high school girl and a group of fashion designers who are trying their best to make their dreams come true.

| Paradise Kiss is definitely one the best drama animes I have ever seen. I recommend anyone to watch this to the end, and it shouldn't be hard since it is addicting and only 12 episodes. I read the first book of the manga, and I remembered it had an anime series as well, so I decided to check it out.

| Paradise Kiss is one rare anime :) There's not many animes with fashion in it and artistic sense. Of course, it's a really beautiful love story throughout the anime. George is so suave, hot, and cool and Caroline is so innocent.
With a tinge of erotic feeling in the anime, it's really awesome! While watching the anime, I found myself laughing many times at the weird things Miwako said.
The whole anime was great, but the ending ended in my opinion...WAY TOO WRONG. That's the only thing that made me mad about this anime. The ending wasn't what I was expecting at all :(
I recommend you watch this anime!

| Paradise Kiss is a joker’s wild of an anime; everything from the art-style to the character interaction oozes eccentric originality. Despite the twelve-episode length, Paradise Kiss is as complete as it could be with its surprisingly engaging love story.
The only drawbacks in Paradise Kiss are evident in the relationship between the two main characters: Yukari and George. For starters, George is the smoothest operator an anime has ever created. Impossibly arrogant, suave, and silver-tongued, the guy can talk any chick (or dude) out of her panties. He’s the most flamboyant character in the series (and believe in me, that is saying something) and the most fun to watch. The problem with him is that he’s also ambiguous; the anime makes it clear (and another character even hinted as such) that he’s not the sort of man that could make a woman happy, yet he obviously cares more for Yukari than he’ll admit. And yet…..he obviously doesn’t give a damn about her. I, as the audience, would really like to take a vacation inside George’s head, but this is probably a tribute to how well-written he is. Yukari’s decision to become a model opens doors for her as a character: she’s supposed to be stronger, willful, and independent. But as her relationship with George deepens, Yukari takes two steps back. The words “clingy” and “needy” came to mind. In any case, Yukari is not as independent as she thinks she is….or as the anime tried to portray her. Last but not least, the anime takes a bit of a dive in the last four episodes. Whereas the first eight episodes were nothing short of excellent, the last four were borderline dull (although the end to episode ten was brilliant) as the anime chooses to focus on things that aren’t really that important.
One thing that never ceased to amaze me about anime fandom is the miraculous way that mediocre anime can receive hoards of praise or (if not praise) a large amount of viewers whereas excellent anime end up into obscurity or are generally ignored. Paradise Kiss, being only about a year old, is not only young enough but good enough to attract the majority of the animenfo population. But alas, Paradise Kiss, despite its excellent characters and surprisingly compelling love story, falls into anonymity. However, I will not hesitate to bestow upon it several accolades: It is a damn good half-season. It is one of the best shoujo I’ve seen. And as of yet, it is the best anime of last year. Highly recommended.

| I haven't read the manga so i can't comment on how faithfully it sticks to it, however as an anime i found Paradise Kiss to be too over-the-top. It's also got an undeniable originality and uniqueness, but not necessarily in a good way. It is my opinion that only those of specialized tastes will like this anime. It's definitely not for the regular anime fan. I realize that my score doesn't conform with those of most of the other reviews, but that in no way detracts from its credibility. Rest assured that i am not some disgruntled hardass with nothing better to do than to try and unduly ruin this anime's score and reputation. I would even go further in saying that due to the small overall number of reviews that exist for this anime, its total average rating means very little. Those deciding whether or not to pick up this anime should consider the content written in the reviews to be of more value to them than numerical scores. Read on for what i consider to be valid insight and even some recommendations on other anime titles you may wish to look into.

| After reading the manga series I just had to watch this anime and I was not disappointed. The anime almost follows the manga from scene to scene, but adds so much more in its style and presentation that it, I think, is even better than its manga counterpart. This anime will remind you of BECK (it's made by the same studio), but different in many ways. Certainly this anime borrows some stylistic things and thematic approaches that are used around everywhere, but it still is unique and excellent due to three major reasons:
1. Its faithfulness to realistic storytelling
2. Interesting (and may be quite exotic) characters that light up this anime
3. its unique (though few elements may be borrowed) animation.
I honestly think this is one of the best animes I've watched
I've seenmany of the unrealistic Harem romance and romance tragedies that ride on the hype all the time for various reason. Some people claim some tragedies have "real emotions." and i'm guessing people watch Harem animes for some laugh and to fantisize (that's me).
This is nothing like that. From beginning to the end, this anime is down to earth and tries to be real. Studio MadHouse like in BECK does an incredible job in conveying this through very smooth and well paced storytelling. No even feels rushed and all things happen very accordingly. Characters actions seem very believable, and sympathizable (is that a word?) may be except for George. I can totally feel why Yukari would do what she would do not because i'm a benevolent being, but because the anime does a great job in telling the story.
Characters are quite interesting. George is bi-sexual egomaniac who for no apparent reason falls in love with Yukari (I'm gonna guess it's because she is hot). Yukari is a oppressed young high school kid who finally discovers the power of her own will and of her beauty. the dynamic between these two characters really good chemistry and keeps the animation fun and interesting till the end. Side characters (especially Isabella) facinate me as well.
Like Gankutsuo, Futakoi Alternative, Hellsing, and etc, this anime has its own unique style that sets this anime apart from the others. This uniqueness is mainly found in its animation. I liked how they combined very weird stick figure ike animation once in a while to lighten up the scene. The cloth designs are incredibly meticulous, and well done. The character designs also suit my taste well. I've always liked "long" character designs. More than anything I really like how they design their faces! They actually look different. If you pause for a moment and look at their eye designs it's pretty remarkable how must detail they put into every little part of it.
However some aspects are borrowed clearly. As a reviewer in animeacademy.com pointed out, they borrowed what Gonzo did in Gankutsou with their clothes a few times in the anime. And also slightly different, the overall mood and style of anime reflects BECK... they are made by the same studio afterall. So to say that this anime is entirely original would be false, but what anime really is? The point is that this anime have a style that makes this anime look very distinctive.
I really do think this is one of the best anime I've seen for the following reasons mentioned above. If you are tired of watching repetitive and emotionally overblown drama, I say this is the anime you have been waiting. But for any other reason, I say grab this anime because it is worth it.
