| Shinichi Chiaki wants to become a conductor like his mentor. He has tremendous talent as a pianist and violinist and is encouraged to go study abroad. Unfortunately, he nearly has a phobia of flying and his true love is conducting. He starts to give up on music since he couldn't achieve his dream in Japan, that is, until he meets Megumi Noda. She can't really do anything right, and Chiaki isn't even sure how she made it into the school since she can't read sheet music! She can, however, play the piano in an unbelievable Cantabile style. (Sorry, check the Wikipedia if you don't know what Cantabile means)
At first, I had a hard time getting into this manga. Love-Romance with classical music seemed so dull at first. After a few chapters, I found myself hooked on it! The story was very realistic, the characters all blended very well together, and you can't help but love Nodame! Unfortunately, the romance is very obvious about who gets with who, but I kinda liked that since the pairings were the ones I wanted to see.
If you take love, friendship, classical music, and add a little bit of comedy, you will get Nodame Cantabile!

| I heard the reputation of this manga but I hadn’t tried to read it. However, yesterday, I browsed the first volume displayed at the book store I just dropped in at, and I found it very interesting. Because I desperately wanted to read the sequel, I went to manga café to read though the series today.
The title “Nodame” is the nickname of Noda Megumi. She is a student of a music collage. She is very lazy girl; her room is so messy that numerous bugs are swarming, and she washes her hair once in 4 days… Her life style is very different from my impression of a musical school student. But she is a strange talent of playing piano, and that attracts Chiba Shinichi, an elite student who wants to become a conductor although he has a piano class.
At first, I thought the main character of this series is Nodame, but actually, Shinichi is the protagonist. He is a gifted musician but unsociable. He is always in trouble with Nodame and other musicians. All of them are very unique and funny. They have superior talent in music, but their daily life is very eccentric. The begining part of the series is comical, but the series become (rather) serious later. Being influence by these musicians, he is going to realize his dream. I got exited in this process. However, the story became serious and I’m getting tired of reading around 12th volume, and stopped reading. However, I think this manga is quite amusing and still above average. This manga is serialized in Lady’s Comic (manga for young woman), and I found some shojomanga-ish expression used in manga, but if you’re a man, you can enjoy the story. I recommend you to try it.
