I have not seen the other zoid series, but this one turned out to be a very entertaining anime. At first, I was under the impression that Zoid Genesis was purely directed at an audience composed of children ala Pokemon. But boy either I was wrong or this series just brought out my inner child.

The animation is a mixture of CGIish graphics, protrayed mainly by the zoids, and the standard oriental drawing with great usage of colors. The zoids are "very cool" and some such as the DeadlyKong are just awesome to say the least specially for mecha lovers.

The story revolves around a kid who pilots a rare zoid (animal shaped mecha) for the first time. From there he starts a journey to save his town from destruction and eventually to save the world. Not very original indeed, but still appealing.

The characters are basically a compilation of other characters from other animes. The main character Ruuji is the typical boy who is new to piloting zoids but has a natural talent which makes him suddenly surpass the best and most veteran pilots. The rest of the characters are "typical" too.

The sound based on OP/ED music, background music, and character voice acting, is another trait that positively defines this anime.

I have so far watched up to episode 33 and I still enjoy this serie. This is no oscar winner, but it is very entertaining and perfect to instill a "light" mood.

-Based on 5 Episodes-

After seeing the previous Zoids anime that was aired in the US I was a bit skeptical of watching Zoids genesis. However, this one caught be by surprise. This one centralizes around Ruuji, a simple boy who dreamed of nothing more than becoming a teacher. However, destiny had other plans for him after he discovered a Murasame Liger.

Animations - The new animations of the ZOIDS are superb. The character designs are colorful and not really serious. In term creating a very light-hearted, yet also fitting for serious moments. The new designs of the ZOIDS earn a plus as well.

Sound - Japanese voice over, as always sound great, however, I'm not a Japanese person so I can't comment on their dialogues beside from reading the subbing. The openning and ending themes are good. I, for one, grown a liking to the ending upbeat ending theme.

Story - The story has the main character, Ruuji, in search of a person who can help his village from disaster. He joins up with a traveling duo, Ra-Kan and Mii. A recycled idea of boy rescuing his hometown, but nonetheless a great central theme.

Characters - I really like the characteristic of these characters. Ruuji, unlike some of his counterparts in other animes possesses a unique identity. He dreams of becoming a teacher a very realistic goal, it just fate has other plans for him. Also unlike other characters in other anime that are his age, he is matured, kind, brave, and strong-willed and not pathetic crybaby. Other interesting character involves the overly violent, Mii. Cute, adorable voice, and the temper of a lion. Her actions always liven up a mood and makes for a great laugh.

I recommend this to anyone. It has mech, action, and an adventurous story. Possibly some love-romance in the future ^^. An anime worthy of your time.
