| Zettai Shonen is the type of anime you might only want to watch if you find yourself needing to take a break from watching whatever type of anime you normally do watch. Otherwise if you pick this title with the same level of expectation you would have for your favorite anime then you might be in for a let-down. Still, it's pretty far from what I would call un-watchable or a “bad anime.” Zettai Shonen is a quirky, slow-paced, sci-fi/fantasy anime series that's a little bit off the beaten path. If you are in the mood for something quirky and different then pick this show, if not then stick to safer territory and the titles you normally like.

| Have you ever wondered how much of the world is known to us? Can we really declare that we know and have researched most of it? Have you ever though that there might be another side of the world, as vast as this, but impossible to comprehend with our senses? If our feelings were to have a material, but incomprehensible state... How would they coexist?
Zettai Shounen is a pretty good show, it has a pretty nice idea behind its story and it doesn't lack in originality either. Unfortunately, what kills most of the enjoyment in this anime is its extremely slow pacing. And this is coming from a person who thought of .hack//Sign's pacing as perfect. In Zettai Shounen there are times when it takes three or more episodes for something major to happen. Thankfully, a good cast of characters saved me from a horrible boredom what Zettai Shounen had a potential to turn into.
If you have no trouble with slow paced anime and you are interested in mystery genre, then you might want to give Zettai Shounen a shot. On the other hand, even though I fall into both categories I still didn't enjoy Zettai Shounen that much. Well, last episode was kind of rewarding though.

| Whoah... this might be the most underrated show I've seen yet. It's really good and yet there's only 10 reviews on it... odd.
Speaking of odd... that's really the best word to describe for this series. I'm guessing you'd have a really hard time finding an anime series with a slower pace, yet I haven't been bored for a second watching the series because it always comes up with some interesting new insight or odd development. More importantly however the music is excellent and really fits. The show retains a sense of mystery up to the very end, augmented by the excellent musical score, and leaves you guessing what exactly was going on until the very end, but even if it leaves you in wonder after it's over, it doesn't disappoint. Two thumbs up.

| Zettai Shonen aka Absolute Boy is one strange series! For one, it breaks all conventions of normal anime. Secondly, it doesnot belong to any genre. Animenfo lists this series as Sci-fi, Drama and Fantasy, but the ironical part is that it will not appeal to any fan of any of these genre. Also, the anime does not follow the usual path of plot and character developement - it tries to do both, which is usualy a hard act to follow. This is one of the anime which stands out by taking the path which anime rarely tread.

| *Update*
Let me state the good points of this particular anime. The characters are slowly developed and well crafted. At certain episodes, the presentation of the characters are so powerful that you get entranced and just "feel" their emotions.
It is like an explosion, after the slow, slow, slow pacing of the anime, which is both a bad and good thing. Bad thing you get bored, good thing, you want to rewatch the particular scene.
The story operates on a sense of "lonely" theme. "We are alone", was said in such a manner that I felt I was instantly hit by a hammer (episode 7). And the way it was orchestrated from the distance of two characters made the impression even deeper.
The dynamic impact was so ever slow, and yet so amazing powerful... that being said, I do not think that this animation is for everyone. Kids would be seriously bored from the slow pacing, and even some people woul reel over from the very long silences of boredom.
The sounds is almost sleepy, points up for getting good seiyuus that made the characters distinct, and not cliche generic boredom.
Story is actually pretty good, but only after episode 20, where I feel that you grow attached to the characters. It feels... pretty good to watch, but it comes in the form of 20+ episodes... It is slow and difficult to swallow, and there are better animes like honey and clover. It is worth the watch.
Don't expect anything beyond average animation, because there's nothing impressive at all. The only great thing about this animation is the characters being the best part. You would want to keep certain episodes, and then delete the rest.
I would say, must watch for the first time. Then delete away the episodes you don't want.

| well, i get the point that the anime might become really boring at times but i think it is a matter of taste ... personally i really like the whole thing, including the slower and nearly lethargic episodes. It is a matter of patience whether you want to "endure" the anime till the very end or not.
The somehow melancholic and dreamy atmosphere was very beautiful!
It results form the nice animation, the simple but very fitting soundtrack and the well written characters. Here i have to agree with JSH, who described it more detailed.
on to the value: I am also not quite sure if i completely understood the whole meaning behind this anime, but i think it tries to cover the problem of people who lost direction in life and therefore trying to figure out how to escape from this "nightmare". A typical problem many youths might have or had; or not. [Those would be the quite lucky ones ;) ]
I suppose that in most animes this topic is somehow covered; less or more. But Zettai Shonen definitely focuses on it. And that is in its metaphorical way, from my point of view, very well done; including the quite satisfying ending.
But again: it is a matter of taste ...

| It's a very original anime without much excitement. Throughout the anime, I found myself wondering, "Why am I watching this? It's so boring?" In the hope of some good stuff in the middle episodes, I kept on watching. I'm only 2 episodes away from the last episode but I don't want to watch anymore.
This anime disappointed me. Though the story is a pretty good one, they should have put in more action or excitement to keep people interested. The only thing that was good about this anime were the characters.
Characters that were know-it-all kids, annoying kids, b*tchy girls, nice girls, quiet guys, persistent guys, dumped guys...reporter women... There was a whole variety of different people.
Boredom is the word that defines this anime for me. I thought I would enjoy it, but I ended up getting bored of it.
The opening and ending songs were..horrible.
If you are looking for an interesting but boring anime, Zettai Shonen is the anime for you.

| Boredom was the main guest of this anime, although bravely different, it’s still ultimately lacking in entertainment.
The pace of Zettai Shonen was very similar to Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, but it included a rather weak element of mystery, while it did grow, there are better animes out there with better mysteries.
The real reason why the mystery was in the end a disappointment was because the ending was a disappointment. To some degree, I loved the ending due to the brilliant effects and the sheer scale of things, it was a piece of heaven so to say. But in this case, visuals without any decipherable meaning caused frustration. I have said it many times, if you the audience can’t decode what the makers have encoded in a piece of art, then often, you gain a very small piece of the overall message. This anime was definitely a piece-together one.
I suppose many would say the important thing is not whether you fully understood the anime, but it’s whether you enjoyed it or not. This is true of many things I have watched, but with Zettai Shonen, I didn’t enjoy it either, not for the most of it.
There were many encouraging things about Zettai Shonen, one was the animation style which had a very unique fell to it, second was the music theme, which although was repeated endlessly, was never hard on my ears. Then there were the characters which were interesting in their own way.
I wasn’t sure what the focus or aim of this anime was to be frank, I think it’s trying to say that things are different for each and everyone of us, depending on the way we look at things. Certainly, if this was true, the camera work and angles reflect this perfectly. Often the camera would focus on something other than what should be the main focus, for example, if a character was talking, the camera pan across a tree or a scene instead of focusing on the character’s head. Interesting stuff indeed and best of all it didn’t feel cheap.
A range of encouraging elements and features, many would have doubtlessly loved this creative blend, but I didn’t see what it resulted in. A very Laissez-faire anime that you can chill to, but I wouldn’t really consider rewatching this at all.

| "Patience is a virtue"
That's all I have to say about this anime. If you wait, something good will definitely happen to you. The first few episodes of this anime were extremely boring, yet had that faintly mysterious atmosphere that convinced me to keep watching it.
And I did. Boy, it sure was worth it.
This is one of the best anime in terms of originality. No other anime has tried to touch on this many aspects of teen's worries and concerns.
-Animation: For an anime that was made in 2005, the anime was pleasant to look at but not on the par with top animation animes of 2005 like Gankutsuou or Karas. Still there were some signs of 3D integration which blended well with the whole series.
-Sound: OP/ED wasn't that bad but at the same time it wasn't very appealing. The BGM needs a little bit of work as I couldn't hear any musics whenever the the anime approached climax.
-Story: Unique. Different. Exceptional. Distinctive. The list can go on and on to describe this anime.
Zettai Shounen has the most original and creative story I have ever seen. The cute UFOs and slow plot developments might discourage some viewers from watching this anime, but if you manage to stick with it untill the end, you won't regret it for sure. The end justifies the mean in this anime. The depiction of teenager's common problems about their future, personality, love etc.. are just too realistic and professionally shown in such a way that inspired me to even change the way I currently am.
-Character: So many characters. So many developments. This anime has about 5-6 major characters who undergo significant changes that puts their lives in different paths. And these changes are so obvious yet so hard to obtain unless something big like in the anime happens. The director smoothly shows the progess of character developments in an orderly and logical matter.
-Value: Zettai Shounen is definitely a philosophical anime, close to Neon Genesis Evangelion, yet focusing more at micro levels of individuals' minds. It reminds of a time when I was a teenager and what I had to go through that time. This sense of slice of life surely deserves a high score on the rating.
-Enjoyment: Overall, this is a great anime, definitely in my top 20s. If you can just bear with the slow plot developments of first 5 episodes, the fruit of your effort will surely yield a result that is unmatched by any other animes.

| I almost fell asleep when i started to watch this anime but then there's one shocking moment in ep.5 that keep me to going and going untill the end. I end up marathon this overnight cause I want to see what happen to char and what's that ufo thingy.
This story is like X-Files with slower pace and less action. Start out really slow and have almost nothing to interest for. Ghost story wasn't much a potential to be a good story at first, but with the help of weird ufo floating objects appears it starting to looks promising. Amazing scenes do happen but only happen in a few ep. Every ep. always has something, the flow of char, the flow of story, developing a little bit by bit and the outcome is worth to be looking for.
There's also romance along the way. There wasn't much in the first half, but at 2nd half there were a 4 people love triangle. Even there's a time gap between 1st and 2nd half, everyone still there and some who suppose to grow up, did grew up.
Also, there're a lot of both crap and useful lessons teaching in this anime. They talking about what's 'true' or how common sense can blind you from the real truth... blah blah blah... Crap or not, I think it suit this kind of anime to blarg a little. It also a nice a way to keep a open mind and enjoy this anime.
To wrap it all up, this was a perfect-plan anime. Nothing was out of place, no stupid plothole, or major mistake. Althou the ufo story might be a little hard to swallow but it's not bad consider it trying to do ufo-mystery like anime. Good job all.

| I have to say I usually like sports, music(Beck) or fighting anime. I usually don't like anime like this and yet this anime was one of the best I ever saw. The characters in the story had an amazing amount of depth and the storyline was great. Even though sometimes the story would drag a little bit it would pick back up quickly. The sounds during the show are great however the opening and ending both sucked. I really enjoyed this anime and it's up there in my top 4 all time favourites with the likes of Bleach, Beck and Xenosaga. You will see it or it will eat you.

| I was first hesitant to watch this show, but I'm really glad that I did. It's slow paced, but in every episode, something new happens that makes the show intriguing and leaving the watcher for wanting more. The story plays out very well, and has good characterization but that does by no means that everyone will probably like this show. The show gets really interesting in the later episodes so if you are planning to give this show a try, I recommend that you don't drop this show in the first few episodes.

| 8 eps and nobody has posted a review of this....
i am completely surprised that there hasnt been more positive/negative comments about this show as its definately one of those love/hate things...personally i love its laid back pacing, quirky animation and unique art style...
i think you could quite easily watch the first episode and dismiss it and call it dull never to be watched again... i nearly mad ethe same mistake but after seeing 3 eps in 3 days it made more sense... there is no little girls running around trying to have relationships with their older brothers...the romantic interest aspects are awkward little moments full of quiet talking.....
oh i should mention the story...its about some people living in the quaintest of towns where nothing happens...but up in the woods there may/may not be fairies/aliens/something else... but its not thrown at you like a sci-fi show..its all about people srelationships in the town and how the weird goings on bring these people together..i really have not seen anything like it...and i love the animated quirks....
the op/ed songs are rubbish though
