| Now this is an intense yet strange anime. The factor move around like some strange poem and the darkness behind politics is showd pretty well in this one. It was made in 1998 wich I couldn't bealive at first cause this anime has a great animation even for its time. The story is rather confusing because you jump from one this and stump on another and sometimes doesen't make sense and many thing end up happening without ani explanation. Character desing is interesting and aren't out of context. Not everyone will enjoy this anime but it will challenge even the way you think right now about the world.

| Gasaraki is many things - a political drama, a mystical drama and a personal drama charting Yushiro's journey of self-discovery, but it is not your conventional mecha anime. For a start it is quite slow paced, containing little action and a very hefty dose of realism, which somehoow manages to fuse with the mystical elements. In fact, Gasaraki is more of a drama series which happens to contain mechas, rather than a conventional mecha anime. To enjoy Gasaraki you need patience and the desire to think about what you're seeing, to examine the characters motives, the slowly unfolding plot and the many themes contained with in the show. This is not helped by the two very seperate plot strands that develop over the course of the anime - one political and the other mystical, which alternately take centre stage for several episodes at a time, leaving only hints of the other half of the series. This can make the show feel somewhat disjointed as the two plot strands do not tie together, making the penultimate episode feel as much a genuine conclusion to the anime as the final episode.
Everyone else about the show is competent without being excellent. The animation, the sound track and the voice acting are all good with out being great. The animation giving the show a slightly, darker, grittier edge that fits perfectly. The soundtrack is good without being particularly memorable and the seiyuu all give decent performances.
Unfortunately this trend extends to the characters too, who are all distinct and identifiable without being memorable or particularly interesting. The only real exception to this is Nishida, the blind man behind much of the political manouvering in the later half of the series, who at least is somewhat original and mysterious. Even he though is subservient to the plot, achieving as much development as necessary for the furthering of the plot - no more, no less. The same is true for all of the characters, making, Gasaraki is a completely plot driven anime.
This means that the anime succeeds purely on the basis of its plot, which is deep and engrossing despite its disjointed nature. Although, as a result, Gasaraki is not for everyone. It requires a patient viewer with an interest in both the political and mystical elements of the show and the themes it tries to express. Anyone else will be confused, bored or both.

| I had a great time watching this anime, especially after Neon Genesis withdrawl. The combination of spiritualality, politics, and mechs were balanced well enough. This may be the double edged sword for some, since it's safe to say most people that purchase this anime will be seeking more mech action than anything else probably. This is more story driven than action based, and as such should not be judged by previous expectations of what it could or should have been, and what it is.

| This was a decent anime, although not as much action as i had hoped it still had enough to keep me entertained.
The animation was fair considering its around 7-8 years old now. some sceens were alot better animated than others, like the battle sceens.
The opening and ending sound tracks were awesome!! i dont know how some people are complaining about them. the ending song was especialy nice.
The story in gasaraki is as some others have said, a mix of spirituality and politics. it does tend to drag on at times and get very dull. The ending was very disapointing in my opinion and pretty much ruined the whole anime for me. it reminded me alot of the original neon genesis ending.
The characters arent really that impressive and dont really stand out. it took me a while to tell them apart and figure out wich ones were actualy main characters.
Overall, i was enjoying this anime untill i saw the crapy ending and i felt very, very cheated. it almost felt like they ran outa money and just slopped something quick together.... Its worth watching purely for entertainment, but dont expect to stay in your memorys for very long.

| It’s straight from the horse’s mouth that by combining militarism, politics, and Japanese spirituality, Gasaraki was an attempt to ‘revolutionize’ the mecha genre. Because the series hasn’t been re-mastered five times and there are no Tactical Armor figurines at Toys R Us, I think it’s safe to say the plan failed; however (and despite being tremendously boring), Gasaraki has a certain appeal: its meaningful and multi-faceted storyline. Requiring close attention and will power, the story may redeem this anime as a whole. Just try not to fall asleep through it.
…..and the opening episode may do just that. The first half of the first episode is saturated with dialogue that includes numbers, percentages, and letters of the alphabet. To bewilder the audience further, a batch of strange terminology is mentioned without being defined and the main character is discussed without being formally introduced. It’s deplorable that the series begins ten steps ahead of the viewer because it feels as if you’re starting smack dab in the middle instead of the beginning. In any case (if you own the DVDs) I highly recommend checking out the “glossary of terms” in the “extras” section before watching. If you don’t know what a “kai” or “kugai’ is you’re pretty much screwed.
If you’re not still scratching your head trying to figure out what the Gasara dance is, the series may get a bit…less boring after the first four episodes. In fact, I will say the series gets interesting when Yushiro and Miharu physically meet for the first time. Although the pacing is still slow, the content is fairly interesting. Unfortunately, the series gets downright tedious after episode twelve (and stays so from that point on) and I had to suffer through the longest dialogue and the most insufferable boring material I’ve ever had to sleep through. The best part of the anime is definitely Yushiro’s and Miharu’s journey, but just when you think you have a firm grasp on the story, a new aspect, whether it be human experimentation or a newfound political agenda, is introduced.
Although the story may be able to redeem the series as a whole, the characters leave something to be desired. Yushiro, the protagonist, literally says more in the previews before each episode than he does in the actual show. After twenty-five episodes, I still don’t know the name of the main villain. I just know his last name must be Gowa. :) In any case, if ever there was an anime that can be described as an acquired taste, it’s this one.

| The animation was not really great with outstanding special effects. It was more like a realistic type of animation. The music of the anime was pretty good. It matched the animation pretty.
The story was really slow, it started to pick up around the 18 episode for like 2 to 3 episodes, then it went down to being boring. Then, the last episodes were a little better. However, I didn’t like the story because it was slow and boring, so I fast forward most the parts and only stop to see the interesting parts. I didn’t really like the story much.
The characters where ok, but there was some that didn’t really have a personality or a purposed in the animation. Also the main characters didn’t have much of a say or personality in until the middle of the episodes. They didn’t have to make it this long because it made it really boring to see the characters/
I didn’t really enjoyed this anime, it was really long and boring. Also the ending was really disappointed in some way. But I guess is the whole idea of “karma and how even in the modern life people still act like the feudal ages or have that idea. Overall. I dn’t really recommend this anime to the people who like to watch more of a out going type of anime with really humorous parts because they will find this extremely slow and boring.

| I have seen the entire series and enjoyed very much. It is definitely of a drama genre so if your not looking for somthing like that keep looking. Beyond that I found it's action sequences (the few there were) to be very impressive. I enjoyed it's take on the mech concept. The global politics element of the story is strikingly similar to recent military conflicts in the world (not naming names). I would have to say it's ending is sub-par with the rest of the seies however. Sad.

| Animation was good enough but some of the battles were badly directed.
OP and ED are simply bad. I usually dont even notice the music during the action itself. Voice acting was good enough.
Story was boring and confusing during the first season, but got A LOT more interesting during and after the long flashback. So if you've seen over 10 eps, DONT QUIT NOW!
Character design was below average.
Subs we're bad. Lots of needlessly big words and bad timing, so I wasnt able to read all of the lines.
I'm all for translating BG voices, but do you really want 6 lines in the frame? Especially when it makes hard to find the lines where the actual dialogue is.
2nd Season was enjoyable, the first was not.

| The overall problem with Gasaraki is that it is so mediocre that it is painful at times. Yushiro might as well have been a dancing sock puppet he was such an insipid character. Miharu should not have been there at all considering that she spends half the series as a mute lack wit. The animation compared with contemporaries is dull and the soundtrack was hardly noticeable. Nothing about this political anime is above drab and that really makes it not worth it. As a final note to all still interested, if you are looking for any kind of mecha anime with action don't look here, the three decent mech fights were so few and far between that when they did show up their twenty second long duration left you wanting much more.

| I like this anime.
At first, it's really hard to understand because the characters just seem to talk a lot about politics. But if you listened closely to what they were saying and followed very closely what was happening.. you'll love the story.
The story is deep and very political. AND many of what was in the anime is really happening today. It's a very good anime but you have to think hard of what was happening to truly appreciate it.
I frequently stopped the video just to think about what the character said and eventually the pieces of the puzzle came into place.
The main characters though most of them do not "say" much in the anime are portrayed appropriately. The personalities they portrayed is justifid after understanding what happened to them before..what happend in their past that made them act and behave as such.
The opening song and the ending song are not that great though. But I still recommend this anime especially to those people who want something different from the usual mecha stories..and those peple who are very interested in World Politics.
Guys, Gasaraki is right for you.

| A series with everything you can ask for all rolled into one. Based on the mecha side of Anime, Gasaraki has it's own unique style for the genre making the story much more intrigueing. It's filled with political subjects to base the story but doesn't detour you with boredom and endless rambling, in actuallity it keeps you intent and aware with the story as it fills you with mystery and suspense and puts a nice amount of action and battle scenes.
The story has great Characters to lead the show and as the series progresses you learn alot about the characters past and future and doesn't leave you asking for more on a character. If you were a fan of Neon genesis Evangelion you will love this anime as its much the same genre wise (political thought and action the stories are much different) but Gasaraki being much more low key than NGA will leave you with exciting action and a great story without the trendy packaging.

| even though by many people this anime is misunderstood i found it very good.
The story is something unique in the anime industry and very interesting. Even though i've seen all the episodes i still have a lot of questions.
The universe of this story is truly breathtaking and in a way beautifull
thechracters are not full of cliches and stupid drama.
In my opiniongasaraki has nothing to do with evangellion and these are two totally diffirent series.
If you want to watch something different than your ordinary anime you should see gasaraki

| k . . . imagine Tom Clancy with a touch of sci-fi, then throw in some mecha units. Like Clancy, the storyline moves slowly and doesn't wan on skipping even the most insignificant of details, although I find that the slow pace hardly detracts. In fact, I think it might serve as a boon that . . .
You guys missed one. Might as well deleted this one.

| I bought this series for 30 bucks thinking, "why not?" Im not sure if I really like this anime, or really dont like it. I have mixed feelings with this series because its half boring, and half awesome. That means the story is half and half. Unfortunately the animation was dull, the characters werent drawn great, but were kind of interesting. The music was ok, and the voice actors average. I still want to keep this anime because I have a feeling I'll like it even more the second time through.

| I debated heavily if I should watch this series, based on the you either love it or hate it type of reviews it seems to get.
Animation is fine, don't remember the sound leaving an impression. Story is a bit slow, which I don't mind, but its not very engaging. Although questions do arise that you would like to know more about, and it does keep you somewhat watching. However, the majority of the episodes seem to drag, especially in the beginning, and I found myself somewhat forcing myself to watch the whole series. Mech battles are pretty weak, and are in the backseat supporting the story. As for characters, there are plenty of supporting cast members which you know almost nothing about besides a name and maybe line of work, if that. The main characters weren't developed much more either. Ending left me unsatisfied.
I had nothing else to watch, so this occupied me, and for that I can't complain. Overall, its an average anime series that I will never watch again. I don't recommend shelling out the bucks to buy the series, but if you can borrow it or find it VERY cheap... couldn't hurt to try it. It does pick up towards the middle of the series, but unfortunately most people wouldn't spend the time to get to that point.

| I really liked this anime, hard to follow and sometimes boring for those who are willing to see some Matrix/Rambo Action. But still very detailed plot, interesting story and after all UNEXPECTED!! UNPREDICTABLE!!
Arent you tired of few concepts worked on over and over, and each time from the same angle. You have to watch it twice, it does not suit your expectations and JUST THAT UNPREDICTABILITY is perfect.
Its a puzzle, lovely and exciting to solve.
Recommendable to who ever prefers to keep thinking before the show they watch.

| I've owned the Gasaraki series for a while and I still cant think of what to make of it. One one side I liked the overall thinking behind the story, but I also hated how dragged out it was to get to one freakin point. Gasaraki throws so many complicated aspects of their story at you at once that its easy to end up going "huh?". I like to think of myself as a reasonably intelligent late 20s adult and I had to watch it twice just to understand what really was going on.
Overall, I liked it, but I cant say I loved it. Check it out if you want a serious thinking anime, but if you're looking for intense mecha action, stay away.
