| Romantic animes (especially romantic comedies) are my favorite kind of animes so I had high expectations for Suzuka. It didn't meet all of my expectations. I don't know how the manga is but I find the scenes between the main characters a bit annoying and the animation is pretty poor.
The thing that keeps Suzuka from being a bad anime is the music and the track scenes, especially those with Yamato and Arima. I think they're exciting and well done. So it's more the sport I like than the romance scenes. Which is unusaul because I like romance more than sports.
To sum up, if you like a mixture of romance and sports then you will like this anime. The problem is that the anime only follows to the first 72 chapters of the manga, so you will have to read the manga if you want a real ending to the story.

| I had heard alot about suzuka about its engaging story line and i had decided to try it out, and i am not disappointed.
First is the animation. For a 2005 anime, its animation was.. well.. not great but not bad either, reaching "very good" level, but still falls short on some anime i had seen. The character's hair doesn;t seemed to change for the entire year and the graphic is not that endearing(no extreme scenic views like that of hoshi no koe)
The sound part could be a strong point for suzuka now, the opening theme was invigorating and the ending theme
was beautiful, just beautiful. Classical music came up on critical moment to accentuate the romances and really wavers the audience's mentality in an instant.
About the story, at first i thought it is going to be like any other crappy harem anime whereby all the nonsense kicks in, and i am glad i was wrong. Suzuka throughly explained the whole story but leaving enough for a revelation whether in the midst of end of the series. The writer is also clear about how each girl began to have affection for the protagonist , and how the latter reacts. The story was also original and beautiful (although i prefer tear-jerking anime)
The characters were each designed with their own personality and most of them had an important role in contributing to the main story. The only drawback is that of the main char, as indecisive as any other harem anime guy(but he fares much better still)
I had certainly seen the value of this anime , it teaches us never to give up and strives for your dream. And that things will certainly work up if u work hard.
I had certainly enjoyed this anime til the last episode and hope there was more(manga^^), thus a 9 is not too much.
I recommand this anime to anyone, be it adults or teenagers, especially those who are in to sports. Great anime , watch it .

| When I first watched Suzuka,it was episode 17(dubbed chinese). That episode was rather sweet so I'd always wanted to start watching the series from the start.Even more eager when I saw the great design of Asahina on the cover page of the manga volume 18.Basically,my expectation was high.
So after finishing the series...I was slightly disappointed. The first episode was a great introduction for both the male and female lead. Then the following few episode followed up the good work. However,it didn't continued. The middle section to the end(excluding the last episode) was very annoying. It showed the sheer stupidity and immaturity of the main characters which isn't something I would expected(especially the love triangle).I'm glad that this too is school life.
Ok now to the sport.
It didn't have an conclusion(the final race) which might dismayed other viewers since so much time had spent on how the male lead made his way up and yet those efforts had come to vain(or no)!Its fine to me though since it would have a very predictable ending if there is.
Also, the sport scenes are repetitive.Take Asahina's high jump for an example.
But still I enjoyed it a lot.I really liked the characters. Some of the scenarios were very sweet(the first fewepisodes,Honoka-Yamato episodes and the last episode). It was a fine watch but not what you want for a L-R or a sport anime.

| The main character is someone who we all relate to. Although predictable suzuka definitely has its moments, however it strongly focuses on Akitsuki and Asahina, Suzuka is prettayyy enjoyable. To sum it all up simply
1. Bout a guy + gurl
2. both run into problems
3. Comic relief by other characters
i guess its a typical love-romance anime but meh still dam good =D

| I usually don't write review unless I really like the anime. This is an acknowledgment of the pleasure I enjoyed , and also a way to let steam out.
Suzuka very, very much reminded me Touch, at first. It was interesting thing
by itself - to watch how they're making such a variation from the similar initial conditions. I'd also added
to the same team "Lovely Complex". All three anime are very good love stories.
"Very good" because a)they are close to the truth and b) they moved me. There are a lot of monologues and dialogs that explain how people are feeling and thinking. Somebody may find them boring, but for me they really helped to understand and appreciate the situation.
Asahina Shuzuka is amazing character, in a sense, it is a rare case when you won't see a unnaturally kind/cute/clever/etc. girl as a heroine. To the extent that I don't quite understand why on earth Akitsuki fell for her.
I don't think this is a true sports anime. Yes, 30% of the time they spend on the stadium,
yes, the story develops around successes and failures in various competitions. But it seemed for me that it was still more like a props to show characters changing, and their relationships too.
Anime - you should not expect too much from school life, love-romance anime-wise. And indeed here they use it mostly to tell the story. Face expressions, movements - everything is exact. There are several scenes that are more than that, but in general I felt as if director intentionally restricted himself. Maybe following the same "be close to the truth" principle.
Music - I don't understand JPop, so can not judge. Although I enjoyed OP song.
This anime is of a kind that softens your heart.

| In a land of average anime, Suzuka would reign the Queen... or King, on your perspective. In this is your first school-life anime and you enjoyed it, Congratulations. Of course if you didn't like it then don't be discouraged it's not for everyone. Suzuka is like bad medicine, bitter at first and you hope it cures you as time goes by (sometimes it doesn't).

| Getting past the average and somewhat poor standard of animation, the anime itself is excellent.
The Opening and Ending music are really something and very suitable for the anime. It really is beautiful. The voices are very good fitting each character well and never exaggerated nor poorly done.
The story toys with the viewers feelings, having ups and downs, always asking what will happen next, it keeps the viewer interested. However there are a few similarities to Love Hina such as the lead male role living in an all womans apartment and working in the womens bath. However do not be put off because this anime develops like no other and is probably one of the most realistic and gripping animes there is.
The characters are superb. Each having there own traits and developing clearly throughout the series. The best part about them is they either have a bit of you within them or you know someone like them allowing you to understand the reasons behind the characters actions more and feel somewhat towards them whether its loving them or hatred.
Although not my favourite anime of all time, its in my top 3, this really is amazing and whats you get into it, there won't be any getting out. It will make you feel good and it will make you feel frustrated but it really is well executed. You may notice the poor animation during it but don't let this take away the great experience Suzuka provides.

| I'd like to start my review by saying "If you're going to watch this, stop before episode 19.".
Why is that then? Well for one, this is propably THE most annoying anime ever, and it'll only get more and more annoying starting from episode 18.
I really have nothing to say about the animation. It's not stunning or excellent but it's good. Nothing flashy or something that just makes you go "Oooo" but it did it's job. Sound is pretty much the same as with the animation. Basic stuff, nothing mind blowing but it's not bad either.
The story, if there ever was one, is about a 15-year old kid called Yamato, who moves to Tokyo, meets a girl, lives right next to the girl, goes to same school with the girl and so on and so on. The usual stuff, only with the stupidest twist I have ever seen: The girl is an athlete and thus Yamato becomes one too. All of this just happens to be for nothing, it's just plain retarted.
AAAARGH is Yamato with one word. The stupidest, most inmature, selfish kid ever. He is just so damn stupid it's annoying, really annoying. He has no clue on how to get anything done and pretty much everything he does is stupid.
Then there's Suzuka, possibly the worst female lead ever. She is a bitch, simple as that. Whiny, annoying bitch who does nothing but whine and whine throughout the whole anime. She is not cute like usually, she is just plain bitchy (and short haired, I mean seriously who likes short haired women?).
And then there's Honoka, my definate favorite in the whole anime and the only reason I even bothered to watch this b/s. She should have been the lead IMO, or at the very least she deserves her own anime.
The rest of the characters are unimportant so I'm just going to skip them.
Well this is a tough one. like many have said before me, this thing could've easily been 13 episodes long without losing any content, but then again I did watch it and killed few days with it so I guess there's SOME value in it. It really debends on what you prefer. I prefer romantic stuff, action stuff and comedy stuff, and this had nothing out of those 3.
If you're looking for romantic anime go look elsewhere. Ai Yori Aoshi is easily hundred times better than this, heck even the MOST cliche anime ever, To Heart 2, is better than this. If you want to feel annoyed and pissed, then by all means watch this.

| I think this is an anime where you'll either really like it, or hate it.
I happen to fall into the first group.
Yes, Suzuka IS a typical romance anime. The characters are typical. The plot is typical (guy wants to get girl. goes to same school, etc) However, I think the way the story progressed, the way the characters reacted, the feelings that they felt, the feelings that I felt, and the constant flow of incidents and situations were far different from other romance animes. That is why I liked this series so much.
There are times when the story seemed to slow, but what kept me going and watching one episode after another were the characters; specifically, the side characters. I think this anime has one of the best groups of supporting characters ever and they truly were the 'glue' that held everything together. Yamato and Asahina are fun to watch, but their cycles of quarrels can be tiresome. This is where the support characters, especially Honoka, help spice up the story, add a little flavor, and drive it a different direction. I think many times my interest was rekindled because of them.
Each episode is perfectly balanced with just the right amount of story progression so it always feels to flow smoothly. I also liked how the series had multiple climatic episodes, each one special in its own (although of course the last one is the biggie).
If you give this anime a try and enjoy the first 2-3 episodes, then you'll like the rest. Otherwise, it may not be your cup of tea.
If it were me, I'd have several cups. I hope others will enjoy Suzuka as much as I did.

| While watching I kept thinking, throughout the entire series, "how extremely cliche." From the first half of the first episode, I could see the ending clearly already. Boy sees girl, fate makes them classmates/neighbors, and they live happily ever after. I gave it try because these feel-good animes do their trick (surprisingly successfully) in making you, well, feel good. It was nice they added a little track spice to it, although heavily relating to sports it still didn't intefere with the main story.
Unlike Yamato's sprinting abilities, the plot was slow, as molasses. I even got frustrated to the point where I almost screamed out "omg even real life relationships don't take this long!" and was about to give up but then the boy switched girls and then you find out about her past and okay giving away too much... Maybe it's because I'm too used to fast-paced American drama filled with car accidents and sex dilemmas or maybe it's because I watched it all in one sitting (as I usually do ^^;;) but yeah, I got bored. If I connected more with Yamato instead of being just a bystander, that might have helped, but his personality didn't hold as strong as it could have. It was annoying to see similar scenes repeated over and over with the same exact faces, and knowing there's 16 more episodes to go before they'll get anywhere. Also, I think it would have been better if the two boys in Suzuka's life weren't so exactly the same.
The entire time, the side characters were treated as tools. They all became important at one part, but would be largely ignored for the rest of it. I was sad to see such good character development go to waste, especially since I really liked some of them. Yamato was really really irresponsible and Suzuka was really really oblivious to other people's feelings. I think Honoka, although typical, was the favorite.
Animation and sound, nothing to complain about. The background music was always so nicely placed... I love hearing cute, tinkly songs.
But yeah, it did make me feel good, eventually... but it took a long time getting there.

| Suzuka is a typical love-romance anime. That will make you smile and happy, but a very predictable ending.
The animations are ok. Even though the anime came out in 2005, why are the backgrounds so plain? And the animations were so plain and boring. This was the weakest part of the anime.
The OP and ED were ok, not that awful, but not that superb either. Background music fits with the mood of the anime, but there wasn't much in this anime. The character voices were very good and actually matchs with the character's personalitities.
Yamato (The main character) falls in love with a girl named Suzuka. They are both good in sports and Suzuka is a scholarship student in the high jump. Yamato falls in love with Suzuka, but then he finds out his apartment room is right next to Suzuka's. But Suzuka is cold hearted and doesn't like people who doesn't like losers. So she starts off not liking Yamato. Meanwhile there is a girl at Yamato's school who falls in love with him. Her name is Honoka and she is crazy for Yamato. (Even if Yamato is a clutz) So basically a whole love-romance anime starts and it's pretty entertaining to watch. The plot didn't go to fast neither did it go to slow. One of the best parts of this anime.
Yamato - Main character of this anime. Usually a clutz, but can be sensitive sometimes. (But not all the time)
Suzuka - Cold hearted girl, but she can be nice sometimes. She cares about other people, but doesn't like people who don't try there hardest. She is also a scholarship student for the track team. Being the number one high jump student at their school.
Honoka - A nice girl, who falls in love with Yamato. She is very kind and will do almost anything you ask her.
There were a whole bunch of minor characters and they are all very good, but I don't have time to write every single one down.
The character develpoment was very good and one of the best I have seen in an anime. Yamato, Suzuka, and Honoka totally change for the beginning of the anime to the end.
Suzuka is a really good anime. Even if you aren't into sports or love-romance. One of the best animes of 2005, but there are other better ones. Lunar fansubs did a really good job of subbing this.

| School love stories were always my type of a candy, since I myself still study at the school as of yet. Suzuka is by no means, one of a better school stories I've seen.
Even though the main lead was quite annoying, without any self-esteem guy, supporting characters made this show to me. Unfortunately, just by hearing the name of the show you can easily predict how is it going to end, though, of course, you can't predict how is everything going to unwrap. To my surprise all 26 episodes weren't pieced of loads of abrupt interactions between male and female leads, everything was going via much faster pace than I had expected. There were even few love interests for the main character, rather than most commonly one. Actually, I thought that this show might have been created from a bishoujo game, like Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, yet I could find no proof anywhere.
If you are a sucker for a rare shounen romance genre, then there is no better show for you. That's my recommendation.

| I watched this anime 2 days ago and I must admit this is one of the worst anime i've seen. It was gradually annoying and nothing actually did improve till the end. This actually proves the reason why it ins't so highly represented.

| Okay, I found Suzuka Satisfying, but it had A number of flaws, in my opinion...
This anime is made in 2005, Why is the Animation so Displeasing??? I was quite turn-ed off by the graphics that looked like it was made in 2000. I thought the Animation of the First ending theme was really ugly. The multi-coloured patterns were really plain and ugly. The animation of the 2nd ending theme was a much better improvement. The kaleidoscope animation was really impressing. It had its good sceneries at the dramatic parts. Like the time of the Bellflower & fireflies, the Scenery was Spectacular. So i'm giving it Satsisfying 7...
Sounds. The Soundtracks were quite good. Though sometimes when the anime ends emotionally, the first ending theme was quite lively and spoiled the mood. But then it signifies the Energy & Liveliness of this Sports Anime. Sounds were good Overall.
The story was quite Pleasing. I have never watched a Sports anime before, but since i was recommended to as more of a romance anime, I tried it, & it was quite pleasing. I felt a lot of suspense when Yamato was racing, and a lot of surprises. He had his surprising victories and sometimes, just when he was leading, he suddenly drops behind and loses badly. & it had its romantic and dramatic times. I found those parts really good, especially with the beautiful sceneries.
I was turned off by the characters though. I was quite annoyed at how Suzuka is so Cold & mean. Ignoring people, and being so stubborn, and being so emotionless... & i also found it weird that why sometimes she likes yamato, and sometimes she hates him. I was quite annoyed by her. But then when i see her more human side, the side where she cries and really has emotions, at least that part makes up for the stuck-up her...
I liked Yamato at first, then seeing at how insensitive he was while going out with Honoka, how could a guy be such an insensitive meanie. I REALLY WANTED to Pulverise him if he was real. But then, his character developed along the way, and i guess i forgived him for that. But still, I dislike him for being so insensitive towards Honoka and liking Suzuka instead. Honoka is a MUCH BETTER CHOICE than suzuka, in my opinion.
Honoka is My favourite character throughout this anime. So innocent, lovely, cute, and nice... That's the kind of character that should be the main protagonist. & get a MUCH Better guy than Yamato.... I really hated the Totally-Insensitive characters. I Really like Honoka & I Seriously pitied her a whole lot knowing she goes through so much pain just cause of Yamato and Suzuka.
The 3 characters developed quite a bit throughout the series. though the rest were just extras that helped made the anime more comedious or just helped the main characters. The anime had its comedies at the begining. =) and it's romantic drama times were good too. There was Definitely Suspense. So i have to say, I enjoyed this Anime Quite A Bit.. So a 7 will do...
Oh well... I guess quite a few people would agree with me, that the characters were really mean, and they would wanna kill them if they were alive. But it is Satisfying for me, I thought it was Quite Good. It's Worth your time. =) This anime is also one of the few Animes that have a Good Ending... =) An Extra point for it... In My Opinion, I don't like endings that is unsolved... Though, i really wanted Yamato to be with Honoka... I really Wanna Cry cause Honoka's feelings is so Ignored..... ='( Insensitive Jerk Yamato... >= (
Well, there certainly are much better Romantic Dramas out there like Honey & Clover... =)

| Suzuka is one of those anime that gets one excited about the Love-Romance genre again. This anime deserves a perfect 10 in almost every category. The writing is solid and combines a cast of characters that are extremely hard not to love. In terms of editing, the episodes are cut at almost the perfect time, leaving you waiting for next week's episode. Throughout all 26 eps, there never seems to be a slow point in the series, the characters constantly struggling through the drama they've created for themselves. For those of you who are sentimentalists and gluttons for pain, this is the type of anime that continually reminds you why love and friendship is so important and why the biggest rewards in life are hard to obtain and even tougher to hold on to.

| The first half of this series is sort of fresh and interesting, but the second part, til the ending killed it.
Suzuka is just plain stupid, both the character having the name, and the show. Itss full of stereotypical characters, the story is stupid and tiring, they even added sports to make it more interesting.... believe me, that didn't help. And what's up with the number of episodes? it's too long! 12 episodes would even be too much for this crap.
The male protagonist Yamato is really obnoxious! I hate his guts! Insensitive, stupid, and careless... he's the worst character in this kind of genre. He didn't even, for once thought about what others feel. From start to finish he's stubborn and always thinks what's best for him, and did not give a damn about the people around him. His selfish. nosey attitude annoys me alot, can't he just mind his own business? He's too nosy for a guy! Ahh... how I wish I could be in this series and beat the cr*p out of him. Seriously.
And, Suzuka, the female protagonist; the title of this anime is her name, but I hate her so much! and you ask why is that? well.. lets see, hmm.. maybe because she's a total b***! she gets mad all the time, she's arrogant, she thinks shes perfect! no, I'm serious, she's serious, she really thinks she's perfect! Yamato is the most annoying male lead right? then they're a pefrect pair, Suzuka, is the most crappy and annoying female lead in this genre.
The animation porbably kept this series from being called a total bullsh*t.... It's actually very good and the character designs are beautiful. The sound isn't much to hear, there's nothing special about it, very plain, very dull.
If you want to hate something or someone so badly then go ahead, watch this. This anime is stupid, crappy, and restless.
If you know what romance is and if you know how it feels, then this crappy series isn't worth watching.

| It's love at first sight for Yamato Akitsuki, too bad it's unrequited. Typical, plain, boring high-school harem? I've seen that floating around in the reviews, but it's wrong. I see lots of comparisons to Love Hina, but after the first few episodes I was starting to draw more comparisons with Maison Ikkoku instead (keep in mind that Love Hina parodies Maison Ikkoku on many occasions as well). The humor died, the drama reigned. And the situations/characters were, at least, semi-believable. No powers, no mechs, no aliens, just people. Indeed it was that which had drawn me so much to this series. The drama was relentless and kept me glued to the screen. It is one of, if not the best storylines I've seen in a romance animé since Kimagure Orange Road. A must see for romance fans. Click below for more details.

| To the untrained eye, some might describe Suzuka as another School-romance hybrids aimed towards teenagers. They're probably right. Suzuka brings high school drama with a mix of sports life you won't be disappointed if you are a fan of the genre.
Animation's average for an anime of the 21'st century. The backgrounds are mostly hand-drawn with a little bit of 3-d CGI when a character moves in motion in first person view. Character designs were plain and simple at best. There were a bit of inconsistencies on some of the character's face designs like Asahina.
Sound was tops for me. The pop theme is spectacular and it fits the theme well. The best is probably the BGM. It brings a traditional Japanese feel. Voice acting's average at the most. Nothing impressive for me.
The story's a bit of a cliche' because it mostly revolves around a guy getting the girl he like, but has to strive to do so. There is some sports to complement it, but not as much as they go into full detail. There is a minor subplot which focuses on the sports genre, but other than that, there isn't much to offer for sports fanatics. Explaining how a life of a typical high-school kid is also evident. The story brings in emotions such as anxiety, anger, jealousy, hope and happiness. The story is told in a first person perspective so don't expect to hear any detailed opinions rather than the character speaking in his mind.
Characters were one dimensional for the most part. The supporting characters are depicted as stereotypes. There isn't much development on them except Yamato, Suzuka and Sakurai. The rest of the characters are just there to support the main characters fully.
Since there is also a manga version of the series, it's best if you read and watch both to get a grasp of the full story. Fans of romantic dramas shouldn't miss this.
I for one didn't enjoy it as much since it was a bit boring and tedious to watch some of the characters, notably Yamato, acting very stupid at times. Oh well, they're still in puberty. Anyways, it's not for everyone try first then ask yourself if you would buy it.

| Oh ok, Suzuka, a romance/sport show that fails to hit its goal at many levels.
Lets get pass the good things about this anime show first since there are many negatives thigns about this:
1- Character designs, all of them are cutely designed with a nice 'realistic' feeling as well, also the school uniforms were nice looking as well.
2 - The 'premise' of the story was ok, though cliched, its certainly not a bad one.
3 - The side characters, in particular Hashiba and Yamato's friend
Ok, bad things:
1 - Suzuka and Yamato: Suzuka is officially my worst female protagonist in a romance anime, she is god-awful in every single aspect i can think of. One day, she likes Yamato, the other day she hates him, the other day she acts crazy and stupid, this is one stupid character who can't stick with one consistency and really muddled up the romance aspect of this show. Yamato is a bit dense sometimes but he improved later on, he knew how to deal with things smartly and know how to deal with that so called woman called Suzuka. Sure, Suzuka may have mixed emotions due to her past friend's accident but it stays inconsistent, the days when she enjoys being with Yamato neglects the fact that she still has feelings for Tsuda. Inconcsistency, crappy personality for Suzuka and really a totally unspectacular romance. Full of angst and so much confusion, it was literally a terrible romance from both sides, with Yamato being the better side of it and Suzuka being the totally angsty other side.
2 - Far.. too.. many..episodes!! 26 dammit, with the whole story, i could easily use 12 episodes and still produce the same effect, there were far too many useless episodes in this show and it stayed the same slow, progressive pace which totally ruiend the show.
3 - Sports aspect.. was it needed???!! Aside form the fact it connects Suzuka and Yamato, there really was no need for the whole track and field aspect aside form a little plot device that serves very little in the whole main story of thigns. It could have been much better, if thigns concentrated on the sports abit more than thigns might be better, but no, i guess a concentration of the romance might be what they were aiming for, but unfortunately it wasn't that good honest.
Overall, 3 good points, 3 bad points, with many more bad points that i could have listed. In fact, Suzuka wa s awaste of time for me, there are much better romantic 'real-life' animes out there, Suzuka is really not one that fits that bill.

| Its 00:22 here monday morning. I started to watch this anime Thursday evening. I watched 26 episode in three days. This must really be the best anime series I have seen so far, otherwise I wouldn't have watched it in just these four days.
As I read a review by another visitor here on this site. I noticed a particular point from him/her: Why is the anime named Suzuka when it's about Yamato, an ordinary high-school kid. And just as that reviewer said we get the answer around episode nine. Suzuka is his goal.
Many people don't like sports anime. Though you can't decide to not watch this just because of that simple reason. This anime got just as much excitment as love.
It's a long anime (26 episodes) which is a big plus, atleast for me who dislikes short animes. Every episode is great and there isn't anything in this series that seems like "fillers".
The sound is something that chaught me. The melody on the piano is simply just an piece of art.
I would really recommend this series for everyone who likes lovestorys, sports, excitment and.. well. I guess I would recommend it for everyone.
