| Another classic series and if I was fond of mecha or had I watched it during my childhood I would have given it a much higher score.
But one thing is certain: the more oldies you watch the less original new anime titles appear.
I really liked the way the concept of alternate universes was used here and also the way 4 different species appeared, each possesing their own civilization and beliefs.
The story progresses really slow in the beginning but after the middle catches up and becomes interesting till the final episode and the finale makes the series another memorable classic. But other anime titles during that time used similar concepts in story so it isnt that original, except the 4 different civilizations and the way they are represented.
The characters on the other hand had all the potential to be better developed and only in the last episodes do they really win the viewer. Do not expect them to be any different than similar anime titles but I admitt that watching girls with antennas was very funny.
Though animation was flawed with various repeats of the same battles to the point of absurdity, character design was of high quality and it shows why the characters could have been so much better.
Music and sfx were also of high quality. Music was done by none other than K.Haneda who also made the music for Macross.
The mecha dog fights were OK for the most part and the lack of animation deducts some points.
Overall another classic that should not be forgotten since it was made by TMS.One of the series even non-mecha anime viewers should give a try.
