| Mix Neon Genesis Evangelion (mecha vs. angels) and S-cry-ed... (the main characters and their supernatural abilities) could provide the love-child called, Aquarion. While the CGI is the most amazing part, it's hard to escape the "Where have I seen this before" factor that runs rampant throughout this anime. The other saving grace is the music, but even that keeps this anime in the average category. Love, robots and pain: Aquarion.

| Here is my abbreviated review for this series using it's three major components: the Look factor, the Sound factor and it's Story factor. By looking at things this way, it's more apparent that Genesis Aquarion is not really all that great of an anime.
-The Look gets a mediocre score due to its promisings of beautiful character and set designs that gets wiped out and overshadowed by overuse of CGI and excessive scene looping.
-The Sound is excellent and worth 5 stars all on it's own merit.
-The Story, which is scattered, illogical and incomplete is the shows weakest link and receives the lowest score.

| Based on 13 episodes (if I watch more, I will update)
My main complaint is that this anime doesn't really start getting interesting until episode 12, when finally more back story is revealed. Until then, the anime is chock full of useless combat and boring episode of the day stories that help you get to know characters who aren't even that impressive to begin with.
Sosei no Aquarion combines elements of various mechas as well as kind of mythical stories. It starts out with flashy mecha fights/unions accompanied by some pretty catchy music, which caught my attention and is followed by some 'shadow angel' stuff. The wild and brutish main character then gets recruited into some mysterious organization and is told that he is the reincarnation of some past hero of some different race of Atlantis.
To be honest, the first half of Sosei no Aquarion is just some lame 'summer camp' type anime that manages to somehow accomodate a superficial Aquarion mecha battle that is related to the theme of that episode. Supposedly, these episodes are meant to be character-development arcs that slowly reveal what each Element's personality and weaknesses are. Commander Fudo, some all powerful guy who appears out of nowhere, indirectly teaches the Elements how to fully utilize their power with some weird poetry like "You must reach for the stars" "You can not mix tea with such water in your eyes" "Time and distance is just an illusion". All of these Commander Fudo sayings are part of his summer camp training. Then, they all go off and fight some random Cherubim that appears (and who just so happens is able to be defeated by what this Commander just taught them).
Anyway, let's just say that the first half of Sosei no Aquarion is very tedious to watch through. Not much change happens and all the characters just act like their usual self without much development. Apollo (main character) is just some wild monkey who doesn't care much for tactics. Sirius is his opposite. Pierre is just some cool soccer guy who likes to hit on the ladies. Reika is some easily emotional girl who gets insecure easily. Silvia is the usual girl who gets easily angry at Apollo, despite her connections with him.
Oh, speaking of Silvia... she totally makes this anime lose any credibility with her sexually orgasmic comments everytime she participates in a union. From "I'm coming" to "Oh this feels so good" to "Oh this feels even better". Her comments just feel so out of character relative to her indelicate nature.
I really felt that there was a credible store that was worth watching here. The segregation between the 'Shadow Angels' and 'Wingless Ones' was quite interesting to see and there were plenty of mysteries relating to their elements to be solved. Furthermore, the story that occurred 12000 years ago and the flashbacks were what made this series have any worth. But I found the characters a bore to watch and they focused too much on 'summer camp training' in the first half to really enjoy or take the storyline seriously.
If you ever intend to watch this anime, be warned that it doesn't take off until episode 12, when the main enemy finally appears himself.

| Not bad. I have to warn you though, this is a freak of the week, sailormoon-complex show. I liked it, to a degree. Mostly my attachment to Apollo kept me watching. There were funny episodes which I couldn't resist, and there were repetitive which I could've skipped. So it wasn't a perfect ten. But it definitely has some value.

| The ones that gave you the Mecha Classic OAV of Macross Plus come back with some flashy mecha-design and a "Power-Ranger" themed anime show.
ANIMATION
--------------
Flawless, fluid, next-gen show off. As they did on Earth Girl Arjuna with perfect lighting and coloring mixed with some interesting and creative design for characters, environments, techno-interfaces, SATELLITE nails this criteria giving new meaning to japanese animation with such constant quality during all 26 episodes. The mecha animation in full 3d is incredibly marvelous making the metamorphic fighters of Macross look like junk metal.
Sound
-------
Yoko Kanno creates yet another grand and colossal masterpiece even surpassing her work on Escaflowne. The soundtrack is a must-have for all music fans and it will stay in your music player for a very very very long time. The sound effects are really believable and will make your wall tremble as the action is happening. As for the voice-overs, no one feels out of place.
Story
------
Pretty light on story, Aquarion is about a group of Angels harvesting humans for their tree of life and the humans repel them back with a Gigantic robot called the Aquarion. Fair enough... The machine is the result of the fusion of not five but three smaller fighter aircraft called the Vectors. As you might have guested, three ships equals three possibilities.. Now why didn't the Power Rangers think of that??? Besides all the creative ideas, the story is pretty much a monster of the week thing around which caracters evolve and get to know each other. The down-side is that the anime forgets to exploit a lot of the points it introduces. Still, the show has enough of visuals and action to pull you in and never let go.
Characters
-------------
Aquarion posesses a great cast of unique caracters. You'll have to watch the show to understand what I mean by unique.
Value
------
Great eye-candy, engaging yet forgetfull storyline, this anime must be watched and rewatched for its great moments and each monster gets taken down in original ways. Remember how the Twin Angels were taken down by Shinji and Asuka's dance in Evangelion? Well you will see this many times.
Enjoyment
-------------
Incredibly Fun anime to watch with perfect 10/10 animation and music.
Bottom Line
--------------
Aquarion is like candy. You taste it, you like it, you run get more and share it with your friends.

| This anime is a quite good surprise... It's been a long time since we haven't seen a Mecha Anime with great heroes, great battles to save humanity and all that kind of stuff. This anime brings us back to that old kind of shounen anime that was once very popular. And it's very enjoyable to see it, because it uses the great animation technologies of today with a strong story and a wonderful music that give a real identity to Aquarion.
Some elements are not as developed as we wish, (the story is good but suffers some blanks) but all put together, with an excellent music (Yoko Kanno strikes again with a lot of chorus, good songs well used at all the key moments), great characters (thanks godness, the female characters look like "normal girls" physically, and the hero is a real one, not some chating up looser), and amazing animation (Nobutero Yuki [Lodoss War, Escaflowne...] has worked on it) it works and it creates an amazing enjoyable and spectacular anime with all the good stuff you may expect.
If you love this kind of series, if you're looking for an epic anime where the heroes are great and where the world is a battlefield between light and shadows, you should take a look at this.

| i really like this anime. I've seen 14 ep's, and i'm pretty satisfyed. It did start to disappoint me during around ep 6-11, but its gotten pretty interesting again ^^
The animation is pretty amazing, and the mech sceens are done really well.
I'm not particulary fond of all the characters... they seem kinda "used" already. They do become more devoloped as the series progresses, but the only character i really liked was apollo. The others, like silvia, weren't very interesting at all... but, i'm sure they can only get better with more episodes ^^
i really like the music in this series as well. It seems to go well with the story...
The story for this anime is really interesting. i'm still in the middle of it, but so far i'm really impressed ^^
anyways, this anime is really good, the only problem i have if with the characters. but even with that, they aren't TOO bad... just a little annoying >.<

| Review based after seeing the entire series...
I didn't think much of this series when I first started watching it. It felt like a big whirl of randomness, but that was because I was trying to figure out the plot and the characters' personality traits. Eps 3-11 really made it seem like a "monster-of-the-week" series on the surface... But then I got to watching 12+, and everything just got better from there.
What started as a mediocre series to me ended up being one of my favorites, which rarely happens in all of the series I've seen. It was worth watching this series from start-to-end, and even better the second time around to see how well everything connects and to catch all of the subtle details I was unable to appreciate the first time.
With much of the same staff (writer, music) as Escaflowne, the very first series I ever completed, I had some pretty high expectations for this series. Although the first half of the series had me swinging and confused when I watched it at first, I was not disappointed in the end. This is definitely a series just waiting for people who are lucky enough to appreciate. :)

| starts off with an amazing first episode.
however, i'm up to episode 9 now and it seems to be veering in the direction of "monster-of-the-week" animes.
battles are somewhat innovative though the fact that one never gets the feeling that they will lose makes the battles a lot less exciting.
there is a fair bit of character development though the characters seem less interesting and more irritating (with the honorable exception of the commander...cool dude)
animation, as far as i can tell, is as good as it gets
for a mecha anime (or am i being unfair?), the story seems to be pretty interesting although not that much has been revealed
anyway, this seems to have potential although everytime i realize there's going to be another monster for the week, i feel like infinity punching my screen

| Now this anime is pretty interesting. I don't know what I expected when I downloaded it, but what I got was a gundam evangelion sorta mix. This series is very interesting, with the main character being some very important person in his "past life" and it's amusing how he just can't seem to get along with the girl who is his past life self's lover in her past life. I can't wait to see what this anime has to offer, the ending theme is "enchanting" and the characters seem pretty cool so far.

| Well I have seen so far 5 episodes and I really like this anime.I am not a big mecha fan but I did enjoyed Gundam Seed because of the characters and the story. This one gives me the same feeling but with much better animation and art design.
The animation is very well done with subtle cgi.Only part that annoys me when they merge .
The story gets off pretty quickly with lots of potential side stories.
The characters are varied and interesting.
Sound in not bad but they do insert modern type music during the battles which is OK now but can get dated. The ending music is excellent though.
Art graphics is beautiful. It would make a nice collection to have those drawings or cells.

| EDIT - Massive drop in rating
After watching more of this, it has developed in a bad direction.
Instead of cleaning up the story mess, it has become entirely random. The characters developed to nowhere, they just showed some weird attributes.
Even though animation and sound are still top, I can't rate this good any longer.
Read the details for more...
