| Err.. Future Basketball, huh?
Unless you are seriously captivated by basketball, don't even get close to this show. In this anime basketball is portrayed as the most important thing in life after all. On the other hand, even if you love basketball, Slam Dunk is still better... >_>

| I decided to watch this after reading 4 volumes of the manga. I was curious on how they would present the actual basketball games. I knew ahead of time that the story wouldn't amount to much, considering how lame the main character is. In the end, despite the fact that I watched 13 episodes, I felt extremely disappointed by this. I was looking mainly for interesting basketball games - but the blatant and excessive use of 'copy and paste' of scenes as well as the same exact moves for different players annoyed me to heck.
Buzzer Beater's background story is not very impressive. Humans want to challenge the physically dominant aliens. All politics and racial divide disbelief aside (they don't touch upon this topic), the fact that this power-up basketball manga relies on physically dominant aliens to become the main opposition irks me. I mean... we're already tired of weak but high-potential main characters going on adventures and coming across super bad villains, but when the villains are just a single separate race? Man, put some more effort into it. The main character is one of infinite energy and infinite bad-mouthing; although he 'improves', we don't know anything about the steps or training he undertook to do it. I was looking for basketball games and I got a crap load of it, but I didn't get any good character development as found through Slam Dunk's Sakuragai's hard determination and training.
All we are given is a team whose second leading scorer is some ball hogging, hot-headed kid who just came off of street ball.
Buzzer Beater is a supreme disappointment. The manga sucked and I shouldn't have expected anything good from the anime. Plagued with a horrible story, even worse cast of characters and the lamest repeats of animation scenes, Buzzer Beater fails on all accounts.

| In the future, basketball has become an intergalactic sport. The NBA is no longer the strongest league - the Intergalactic League is. Hideyoshi is a New York street kid who hopes one day to be the biggest star in the Intergalactic League.
An old man named Yoshimune decides to put together an all-earthling team to compete in the Intergalactic League. Hideyoshi and his teammates compete to try and reach their goal.
The animation & sound worked really well, but this is a VERY flawed anime. First off, the characters aren't developed and come off as one dimensional. There was almost no time spent forming relationships. But the biggest flaw is that for a basketball anime, this one completely blew it on the basketball part of the show.
The team starts out with 4 point guards, but DT gets almost all the playing time, with Hideyoshi being a backup. No time was spent retooling the other point guards to new positions. Coaching? Here's the coaching: "Do your best!", "You can do it!" or "Try as hard as you can!". How about some actual basketball coaching? A box and one, maybe a 2-3 zone or a 1-3-1? Are we going to have a full court press? How about a set play out of the time out like a hook and ladder for a 3? Nope. Just "Try your best!".
For all its shortcomings, at least Buzzer Beater was watchable. Watchable, but not good.

| I've always been on the fence about whether or not there's a God. After watching this abomination of an anime series, I've come to realize that either there is no God or we've collectively as a species done something so terrible that He has decided to punish us with Buzzer Beater. I was looking forward to this anime seeing as how it was created by the same person who created Slam Dunk which was an excellent series. I'm also a huge fan of the sports genre in general, but this was unbearable to watch.
The animation was alright, but considering that this was created in 2005 it was nothing spectacular. The lazy animators also ruined it by showing the same clips over and over during the games to the point where it was so utterly and painfully obvious that I could barely watch anymore.
Sound, which you could possibly consider the one saving grace of this anime, was mediocre and average. The music consists of high-octane guitar and I guess some jazz, but there isn't any variety and you get quite tired of it by the fourth or fifth episode.
The story is horrible. It's the same trite plot of a boy who wants to amount to something great but it doesn't progress at all over the course of these 13 episodes and in the end absolutely nothing is resolved.
The characters are terrible. They took the same cliche characters from any other anime and made them even more plain and boring. The main focus is on Hideyoshi Tono, but he doesn't seem to develop at all over the course of the series. In the end he's the same cocky bastard that he was in the beginning. They also didn't have the characteristic ascension to becoming a better player through hardwork that you look forward to seeing in any good sports anime. The rest of the characters remained undeveloped and I felt no attachment to them whatsoever.
I would never in my wildest dreams ever recommend this series to anybody else. Please, as a courtesy to mankind, do not purchase any DVDs if this anime is ever licensed. I wouldn't want anybody to make money off of this filth. In conclusion, this is the worst sports anime I've ever viewed by far. I wouldn't ever want to subject myself or anybody else to this ever again. I'm sorry if you didn't read this review on time and you already wasted hours of your life on this series just as I have.

| Buzzer Beater take basketball to the new level. Instead of being in high school basketball aiming for NBA, they build a whole new world where us human compete with somekind of new alien race. Acutally it's more like a reflection to how the basketball played today. Black guy starting to dominate more and more and somehow the people who originate dissapear from the sport.
I like the mixes in Buzzer Beater. The mix of guitar music and the poor society. The main character Hideyoshi is a good energetic guy who got a great touching history with basketball when he was living on his own. I like how they focus on Hideyoshi and doesn't go wonder off and give other char a stupid useless ep. Cha-Che the grandson of the owner is really blend in with the guys. She is good with basketball showing us that they shouldn't be any discriminate in this anime and I liked it very much. She's also cute giving a lighter mood to watch. I really really like her >_<
They acutally draw a play and show us. Unlike other anime that just draw a fream and giving us stupid music, this one acutally show a shoot scenes, dunk, etc. But they used the same scenes too many times and it become somewhat notice that they are too lazy or ain't got enough fund to do more of this good work.
You might have to be a sport fan to get this series start since they're a little bit slow but i'm sure this one is worth something even you're not a b-ball fan.

| From the first time I heard about Buzzer Beater i thought that it would be a really nice opportunity to watch, how does anime can realize the complicated basketball game into such series. "It is imbossimble!" I thought, but maybe is worth watching. And it was impossible to do so (read full review for more), and it is worth watching only if you are somehow interested in basketball as a game (or as a life - whatever do you think it is).
What for me - I am playing basketball for several years and I entered the universiy team last year - so I do love to play basketball and watch it.
So it was decided to watch the series...

| I am very torn by this series. It is now, unfortunately, finished, and the story doesn't even come close to resolving itself. In fact, there are whole plot threads that are started with certain characters that never even come into play in the main story. That being said, I really enjoyed watching the show while it lasted. If the series had actually lived up to the potential shown in these 13 measly episodes, then it would have been rated much higher in the story, character, and enjoyment categories.

| I am a fan of the sports genre and if anyone is trying to find anything remotely close to slam dunk, this is the wrong anime to look at.
I have watched the complete series and the basic point of this review is, THIS IS CRAP. IT IS AN UTTER WASTE OF TIME.
Animation is solid in itself but it relies VERY heavily on recycled scenes. Also in-game animation and regular-life animation differ so heavily that it is an eye-sore.
Sound isn't all that bad but the voice acting of the main character, Hideyoshi, is ultra annoying. Although that is a personal opinion, it is annoying how only 5-6 characters seem to have any lines to say AT ALL out of a cast of 20-25.
Story was interesting enough but the series itself is too short to elaborate on it and let the viewers actually get into the world of buzzer beater.
Characters are down-right horrible. Tones of characters are introduced with little to no development. The only character that you actually get to get a jist of is the main character, Hideyoshi. As I also mentioned before, you will only hear voices from only about 5-6 of them. If you are lucky enough, you will hear different levels of grunts and cheers if the others.
No value whatsoever. This anime has no revealing assets about it. If there is a sequel to this series (which they better have), it better do a lot more than this half-assed job.
No enjoyment either. Not even worth killing your time over it. I stuck with it hoping that it will improve but I just realized that its only a 13 episode series. This insultingly half-assed job and the pure lack of effort in producing this anime insulted my intelligence. Seriously, even some hentai have better characters than this crap.

| Ok... this is quite unussual for me, since i only rate an anime after i finish watching it, many animes have a slow start, some have good stories but just dissapoint at the end, others are mediore but finish in a brilliant way,... but there is one exception to the rulle i made for myself that functions in the chase of extremly boring, stupid or plain hatefull animes, "wich is watch it till you can't stand it anymore and stop"... yes it isn't very fair, but then again most animes i dumped had a crappy story all the way to the end, at least that's what my friends said.... anyway let's review so far.
I've watched it till episode 10 and i'm giving up:
Animation:
You could call it good, but it's quite standard for 2005, plus it looks like there's a pretty big quallity diference between the normal animation and that of the basketball scenes.
Sound:
Op/Ed themes are ok, but if you read my profile you'll se that doesn't matter to me since they don't affect the story developement or enjoyement in any way... i mean i just watch it in the first episode and then i always skip it (unless it's a really cool one, but this is not the chase).. voice acting is mediocre, some were quite bugging me.
Story:
Well it's quite similar to most sports/cooking animes, where a guy/girl (most of the times an optimistic, energic and valliant but innocent and naive character) wants to become the best, in this chase in basketball... so we get to view his struggle and his succes on the way to the top... well this is a bitt different as they throw in some kinda fraky Sf "space alliens" twist, and so transforming it from a boring anime into a boring and stupid anime, something like SPACE JAM (wich i hated to the bonne) and guess what?, it's not even funny... so not only does it have a pedictable ending, but it's also boring (i almost fell to sleep) and annoying.
Characters:
Main character, some guys, some alliens, not much to say...
Value and Enjoyement:
Ok this anime is bad even for a sports anime.... i'm not a big fan of Slam Dunk (since i never seen it) but i bett the fans of Slam Dunk wouldn't like this either.... from all the sports anime i've only liked a few.. like Captain Tsubasa (when i was a kid) and one of my favorite animes of all time Ping Pong Club (but not because of the ping pong action)...
DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS

| When i first heard of this anime i was sure that the fact this anime combines two different genres(scince fiction and sports)would help it get a larger group of fans, basket ball lovers and "space" lovers...i was wrong...
this combination, that sucked in space jam, sucks here as well...basketball is a beautiful game as it is...dont try and "Upgrade" it...and it is harder to try and relate to some alien than to someone that dreams about making it to the NBA...
i guess that Gyuma is an alien version of Jordan....thats nice...but next time try finding a better name to a team that wears RED uniform other than Blues...try Cows or something(If they are a version of the Bulls as i think they are)...i dont know...
the animation is quite good...but i didnt realy like that "mode" the characters are switching to when they are playing a game...it's just ugly...
the music isnt too bad...the ending is quite good, but i would have liked some lyircs in the poening theme...music only is just boring...
Overall the anime is nice...if you have about 20 minutes to kill, try watching it, but there are many other sports animes that offer a better story...

| I honestly think the creators of this show don't know squat about basketball. The show has annoying, cocky characters that runs on the idea of "i desire winning alot, therefore, that overrides everything and i will win." There's no real depth to the games, where they give insight to the game of basketball.
I'm not a big Slam Dunk fan, but that old series blows this series out of the water. i wouldn't waste your time on this series.

| based on 10 episodes...
From the first 5 episodes, i was starting to give up. However as a basketball fan i kept watching it. i wasn't addicted to it like i was for slamdunk, but i was still pretty drawn to it. This anime is above average as a basketball drama for basketball fans. The comedy is not there... i have not found anyt jokes funny yet and the main characters are not at the best appealing. but i found that their arch rivals are pretty interesting. Reason is probably because that they reveal their emotions more than the protagonist. The sound for this anime has really made the biggest comeback. the music got a LOT better and matches their game of basketball style really well.
In my opinion, i believe that most people rejected this anime because of the integration between aliens and humans as i have. But after a while you will get use to it; plus they don't look that bad as you watch further. After 10 episodes i will say this, it is a fairly good anime but not worth rewatching (so far)...

| The animation is superb. I really like the style of the animation. I like the fact that its dark and that its set in the future new york city. If you watch carefully you will notice that the background and the lights are done perfectly.
I really don't have much to say about the story as i've only seen 7 eps so far but its starting to get interesting. But it reminds me alot of space jam though.
Overall i enjoyed what ive seen up till now. Theonly major flaw is that the matches don't really last that long. Its a very different anime to slam dunk but still quite good.

| perhaps one of the most boring anime i have seen since quite some time, though it may get better later. unlike the hilarious and action oriented slam dunk, this anime has nothing going for it: boring characters, incredibly slow pacing, crappy typical storyline, no comedy and a tendency to put people to sleep. being a big fan of slam dunk, i was greatly disappointed, i hope this anime picks up soon, if it ever does.

| After the first three episodes I am very unimpressed with this anime. The animation looks kind of odd to me, it seems mostly computer generated and the characters faces will look different from scene to scene, particularly the pink haired girl. The voice of Hideyoshi sounds really odd to me. When I first heard it, it sounded more like the voice of an older woman than a 14 year old boy. The first three episodes have been really boring. All the characters so far are very cookie cutter. There is also a lot of buildup for stuff that is fairly unspectacular. In the third episode they make a big deal out of the girl making a shot from the free throw line, ummm, so what? Big freaking deal. Maybe it will get better when they start playing games, but so far, the first three episodes were very boring. I will continue to see if the series picks up, but so far, I am unimpressed.

| One of the best anime for the year 2005. I read the online comics and already thinking it is a good manga. Suddenly, i saw the anime is out and directly watch it. It is damn good. How they expend the story from the manga and make it really notable. The character building is just cool! Just as expected from the one who creates slam dunk! The 3D movement for basket ball moves is awesome! highly recommended for slam dunk fans and sports anime fans... it is sure one of my favourites this year...

| I was waiting for this anime for a long time, when I heard it was created by the creator of slam dunk I went crazy. Slam Dunk was the best basketball anime I have ever seen. Buzzer Beater reminds me a lot of that when I saw episode 1. Unlike Slam Dunk this has much better animation, but Slam Dunk was a very old anime from 1993...and it was still not bad animation
I recommend everyone to watch this anime if you have seen Slam Dunk. You will regret this if you don't. About the music...I liked the opening...but I can't say a lot about it since I have only seen 2 episodes of it. The music might become pretty good later in the anime. About the Character like someone else said, the design's are very nice just like Slam Dunk. And of course you will enjoy this anime. The story isn't so bad so far...but like I said...can't say a lot about it for now. I hope this will surpass Slam Dunk. What can I say more...JUST WATCH THIS ANIME.

| "UPDATE - April 18, 05 - Episode 10 - 8.3"
As you can see in the above reviews, most people don't like this show much. I don't like it much either until episode 10. It's starting to get REALLY INTERESTING. The music blends well with the scene. The reviews you see above are based on episodes before episode 10, which are pretty boring or mediocre if you ask me. Buzzer Beater seems to get interesting. The CG and animation are top notch, no question about that.
Just watch up to episode 10 and see for yourself. This show will be more than 26 episodes I think.
Wait for my next review for more. =]
"UPDATE - March 25, 05 - Episode 7 - Rating - 7.5"
The ideas in this anime show are pretty good. However, the show is incredibly slow paced and doesn't give the same feel as "SLAM DUNK". The drawings are pretty good I supposed. If only "DEAR BOYS" had good artists like this one. It'd be THE BEST basketball anime out there. I hope there's gonna be a sequel to Dear boys. It had nice eurobeat music too.
BTW, if you didn't notice, my score on this anime dropped. I might change it later on if it gets a lot better, but I strongly doubt it gets any better.
----------------------------------------
I've been wanting to watch this anime show for a while, since it's created by the same author of the famous basketball classic, "Slam dunk". It reminds me of the movie "SPACE JAM - main character - basketball legend, Michael Jordan" For those who haven't seen it, it's a show where a human play basketball against space monsters. A similar scenario occurs in this anime show. The opening is composed of music only, which disappoints me greatly. I expected great voice and sound like that of Slam Dunk. Usually, the opening affects my final judgement of the show greatly. The animation's very good, but it's on par with the rest of 2005 shows out there. The show progresses pretty slowly, probably because this is the first episode. As usual, the main character's an idiot who will turn out to be a great basketball player (saguragi hanamichi type) I expect to see better things in the upcoming episode.
Animation:
As I said before, it's on par with the animation of 2005.
Sound:
Opening's composed of music only. The sound inside the episode's mediocre at the moment.
Character:
The character design's pretty good. They're drawn in a way similar to that of Slam Dunk.
Value:
Based on the first episode, it doesn't have much replay value. Nothing much happened in the first episode.
Enjoyment:
I didn't enjoy the first episode as much as I hoped for. Unlike DEAR BOYS, which I watched the first episode over and over after the first time I watched it. Overall, DEAR BOYS was a poor anime because of bad animation. Other than that, the music in that show's a lot better than BUZZER BEATER.
I might change my review later on, but this is what I have in mind so far.
