Baby Love is an one episode OVA based on the manga of the same name. First shown in 1997, the story about an "elementary school" girl confessing her love to the guy she likes.

The animation is really sub-par even in 1997, especially for an OVA quality. The style is the old school shoujo manga with really big eyes, and "cute" guys. The sound is similar mediocre. While the voice-acting is decent, it seems to devoid of any BGM, making it really weird to watch when people speaks.

The story is really condensed, while it is understandable as it's only one episode, the story seems to jump around quite a bit and never settle on a single track. The characters are also not really clear nor developed as a result. You can get a general sense of how the characters are. But the important relationship between Seara, Shuhei, Ayano and Kou is never really clear throughout the whole episode.

Even though I haven't read the manga, I would suspect that it would be miles better than this one. Watch this anime and treat it more as a teaser to the manga than an actual anime if you want to watch this one.

Baby Love is a typical shoujo OVA that is really two words: too short. Like series such as Good Morning Call's OVA, it's crammed into a little one-shot story. Nonetheless, I liked this on some modes, and I wouldn't say it's a bad story at all-it's actually quite cute if you like single-episode stories with a romantic focus. Unfortunately, in almost every other aspect, it's considerably average.

The story revolves around a girl who tries to follow up a promise that a boy made to her 4 years before-she confesses her love to him, and he tells her to "grow up". It's really a sweet premise, but unfortunately the series shows its age quite distinctly. Animation feels like it could be right alongside the likes of Marmalade Boy, Good Morning Call, and Ultra Maniac, but it's considerably dated for a 1997 production.

Music I wouldn't say is a distinct part of the series, but it's considerably jovial and comical in the series where it counts. Voice acting works well for all of the characters, I liked Shu-chan's and Seara's VAs particularly because they were very funny and fitting to their character personalities. I also liked Seara's little sister-she made some good comic relief.

The story for Baby Love is your typical shoujo romance-yet it manages to convey a cohesive, one-shot story within a 30 minute episodes. Introducing a bit of a love-rivalry as well as a determined girl with a young crush, it feels like it could be an entertaining series without much character development-and it is in the one-shot perspective. But if you're looking for a series that does a bit more with the romance aspect, chances are that you may be disappointed, it's a bit confined in its overall presentation. Still, this was a series I enjoyed because while all aspects of it were considerably average, the bit humor and the premise were what drew me in. It's cutesy yet underdeveloped.

Overall, I think people who enjoy this OVA would not look for too much of a developed story or characters, but would want to follow a simple love story that starts and resolves in one set premise. I watched it twice rather easily since it was short, and I would say it was a decent watch, but not enough to match some of my favorite romance series.

If you want series like this one but have better character development and romantic intrigues in the romance triangle perspective, try Marmalade Boy.

Okay, okay, I'm a sucker for short one-part OVAs. Usually their not very good, but I can't help myself! So while this had possibly the worst set-up for any anime I have ever seen ("I will become his bride by age 16!!"), the execution was quite cute. Seara was so single-minded, but not in the annoying way so many shoujo heroines end up being. The contrast between her and her future beau's little sister was really funny too. And the plot felt natural and not stuck for material, so I enjoyed watching it. While it's not on my list of favourite anime, it is a very good one-shot OVA for anyone who likes their shoujo with a helping of cheese.

For a 30 minute one-off animation, Baby-Love does what needs to be done. It introduces us to the characters, their motivations and even thorws in a bit or rivalry in the mix.

There is the usual 'yokusoku' theme where a childhood promise becomes the all consuming goal of one of the characters.

This story has its charms, its fairly light hearted and the animation fairly generic. Being spoiled by the anime of recent years, most of which were done in an all digital environment, the cell animation used for this stands out.

Initially, I had assumed this anime was produced much earlier, perhaps in 1993-1994 because it has aged that much with the increasingly sophistcated use of computers in making some very high quality animation recently.

In summary, this is a mediocre OVA, with a light story line. Everything abvout it is average.

It's not a horrendous anime, still, it has nothing to get you interested in it. With just 30 minutes to watch however, you're not on the risky side, but I'd consider watching something else if you have the time...

Cute story & fun to watch. Nice to see a romance anime that has a conclusion in one episode. In a nutshell - a little girl on vacation with her family falls in love with a young teenage boy & asks to marry him. He tells her that she has to grow up first. Years later she returns to win his heart.
