| Parody, parody, parody…. This anime is full of parodies, especially old anime of Tatsunoko Production, such as, Gatchaman, Casshan, Time Bokan. In addition, there are parodies of otaku cultures, for example, 2ch, Akihabara, figure, dojinshi, and the like.
I wonder how foreign (non-Japanese) people think of this series. Can they appreciate these jokes?
This is not a type of anime to enjoy the story, so I didn’t evaluate the story.
The opening movie of the vol. 2 is hilarious. I laughed at the very first scene and the last one.
The best way to enjoy this anime is to look for the materials of the jokes. In this sense, you might not enjoy this anime without knowledge of Japanese (otaku) culture.
I bought the second volume, and there is commentary of the producers and Momoi Haruko (the voice actress of Komugi) in it. I enjoyed this part very much.
The opening and ending song is sung by Momoi Haruko. They are quite good.
I’m not impressed by the animation very much, but the quality is good. They said in their commentary that they used more than 10,000 pictures for the volume 2. It seems twice as many as normal anime.
The price of the DVD seems to be expensive (I bought it 5,700 yen), but I think the anime is worth the price.
I don’t recommend this anime to everyone because the knowledge of Japanese culture is necessary to appreciate the anime.
However, it is still worth watching. If you have a chance, take a look at this once.
