Yakitate!! Japan is just simply an enjoying and humorous anime. I find this anime to be quite very creative since this involves bread, no fighting and stuff, just bread. Why was watching anime about bread so interesting? Reason being is because of all these humorous reactions from eating bread and how each bread is made. And with all these reactions they have all different kinds of puns that match along with the name or kind of bread which is very creative. Also seeing how each bread was made with all these different kinds of material is creative as well along with the shape of the bread. Also from watching all these funny reactions on anime, I really can't see how they would do this in the manga, which is why the anime is more interseting. However I will read the manga because of the Yakitate arc. In the anime there is Yakitate 9 and in the manga there is Yakitate 25. The only difference is the amount of bakery matches and reactions of tasting the bread.

What I also enjoyed about Yakitat Japan is about it giving me vast amounts of knowledge about Bread. I learned new things about bread that I could never have imagined.

Overall I think Yakitate!! Japan is a very relaxing and enjoyable anime to watch.

This one must be one of the top most annoying animes in my anime list.

Animation: the animation could have been better, especially for 2004 anime. I've seen 1995 animes that had better animation than this. Also, basically I was not able to see much of the shadow-light contrast, especially on the faces.

Sound: nothing impressive down her either + that annoying Azuma Kazuma's and Kawachi's + bunch of side characters "evil" voices drove me crazy.

Story and Character Design: initially, for 15-25 eps. the story and humor were good, afterwards, it seemed that the only way the story could go is if:

a) Evil villains would try to destroy good people. Of course the villains are mad, ugly ppl. and etc. Basically the scums of the world.

or

b) If one of the main characters is shown as a complete idiot (Kawachi) and Auzma Kazuma and others would be picking on him though out the series.

During all of the time the story tried to be funny by trashing the Kawachi as an idiot, a person who was looked down by others, a person who is only good for doing the shittiest jobs for others "cooler" people, all I could feel is anger, annoyance and pity.
If in scoring board would have been 0, I would give 0 for this anime.

Value and Enjoyment: I would never ever want to see these series ever again. Aggravating, annoying, enraging series. Personally I would not recommend these series to anyone as well, unless you are the person whom I really do not like and I want you to waste your time on this crap. I believe there are a huge amount of series that are worth watching that these ones.

my 2nd fav. anime

Yakitate Japan is not your usual kind of animation. This show is about bread making. At first, I was reluctant to download it as it sounded extremely boring. How on earth can they make a comedy out of bread making? After watching it for 3 episodes, I felt in love with this show however, I completely enjoyed this show. It is not only funny and entertaining, there are, to some extend educational value as well (according to one of my friend who is a baker, you can made most of the bread in the show, although some are a bit extreme).

Animation:

The animation is of high quality. All the breads appeared to be realistic and actually look good enough to eat. Every time a new bread is being introduce, it made me hungry. The character design was nice as well, they are not colourful, but most of them seemed realistic enough to be believable (although their actions says otherwise). However, the background was not detailed and the use of colours were often plain, especially when at indoor environment such a the bakery, probably because the studio wanted a realistic look, so they just use grey/white backdrop mixed with a lot of metal appliances colours. Even though the background is quite boring, it helps to make the bread and characters stand out even more. Besides, the characters and breads are so well done and unique that you often will forget about the background anyway, so this is not a serious problem for me.

Sound:

The sounds are excellent here. The original OP did a great job of introducing the show as it is simply and catchy. The OST is not bad either, they work quite well with the show, especially when Kuroyanaki (Don’t know how to spell his name, he is the judge during the new comer exam) doing a reaction, the music make the whole comical situation even funnier because the music there are often too serious, the music seems to be making a mockery out of the whole situation. The use of voice here are good, but I required some adjustment before I can accept them. Most of the male voices were often too high pitch, while the female voices were the other way around, maybe it was intentional, but I am not sure. But once you get to know the characters really well, the voices then seems to be suited for the role they play.

Story:

I don’t watch much animation that deal with cooking, but since cooking animations are rare, and this is the first time that I heard about a bread making animation, I think this must be one of its kind, so there should be a major credit here for originality. Other than being original, this show also did pretty well to incorporate the story line with the theme. So far I watched 34 episodes, but I never found any boring one, all the story line were well planned and give rise to some amazing character developments and scenes. The use of reactions and puns were also quite unique, this show contained so many puns in here that can sometime get quite annoying, but most of the time however, were extremely funny and help add to the reaction moment. The storyline of endless bread battles may seem dry and long, but you don’t feel it when you watch it, most likely due to the large amount of humour used. Also, they have 1 main battle theme and then there are other characters that make different breads, plus most of the bread battles are 1-2 episodes, so this help to add some variety to the show instead of dragging it on. One major flaw in the story line is that Azuma seems to be winning all of the battles (I know he sort of lost 1 later on in the manga version, but the animation version haven’t got to there yet), so it can be a bit dry to watch his development, other than that, I think the story development is an excellent show.

Characters:

The characters are well design, although there are many of them, but they are all likable, even the evil Yukino, who voice over played the evil stepsister extremely well. I found that the supporting characters such as Kawachi and Ken the manager helped the show tremendously. Kawachi is your clown like character, always using a joke or smiley face to divert focus when he made a stuff up. Also, Kawachi is the most interesting to watch because he has so many weak points, yet when he work hard, he can do really well, his character is more interesting than Azuma, who seems to have everything, not that Azuma don’t work hard or not funny, but he just seems too good as a person. Other than Kawachi, all the other characters had a lot of development, you do get to learn some of their past, but when they never reveal too much, so it didn’t get too boring or drag on. Also, there aren’t much lines and development that were wasted, most of them actually lead somewhere, so this make the show seems dynamic and entertaining.

Value & Enjoyment:

I really enjoyed the show, it is definitely worth watching, not just on the good storyline, funny reaction and characters, but also on the delicious breads as well. This series is unique, I was surprised that only 1 English fansub group take on this project. Just 1 little advice, finish watching the animation before read the manga, the manga is a total spoiler for me, especially now during the world tournament stage, this is because the animation followed too closely to the manga. But when the animation is complete, read the manga, it is even funnier as a lot of jokes, puns and omakes were cut out of the animation series.

An anime about baking....why would I ever watch something so ridiculous...is what I was thinking as I read the summary. I went ahead and gave it a try anyway.

Yakitate Japan, in some ways, resembles a typical shounen fighting anime with its built up enemy backgrounds, drawn-out "battles," and exponentially stronger opponents...all in the strange venue of baking bread. While this hooks in many viewers, some veteran anime watchers will be turned off by this unoriginal formula seen in other anime, (Hikaru no Go, Prince of Tennis). However, Yakitate Japan never takes itself too seriously and is still a comedic and enjoyable series.

If you are new to anime, I would suggest watching Yakitate Japan to your liking. If you are an anime veteran, I think the best way to watch this offbeat anime is in conjunction with a more series drama or fantasy. I watched 3 episodes of Yakitate Japan per 1 episode of Jigoku Shoujo. The episodes of Jigoku Shoujo were welcome intermissions and kept both series fresh and interesting.

Baking never been this fun!! The anime took something random such as baking and made it interesting. The anime centralize around Azuma Kazuma, a talented young man gifted with Solar Hands(a fancy trait that made him good at kneading dough). What made this anime stood out was the originality. This is the first anime I've ever seen to tackle a thing such as baking... and bread of all things. To further it, the comedic factor (these mainly occur after they taste the bread, lol) was so over-the-top.

In conclusion, the anime with its courage to tackle such an original idea and incorporating comedy into it so well make the series well deserving of a watch.

This anime would have been good had it ended way before 69 episodes (or, of course, if it were written better past 26).

Instead, it stales horribly, becoming more and more annoying and devoid of substance as the plot drones on past its first arc.

I'd suggest staying away from the majority of this half-baked series, as after the first arc it's very disappointing.

This anime is just absolutely ridiculously funny. When I first watched this anime, I was kind of reluctant to watch it but surprising enough it is very good. For those of you who wants to watch a long comedy type anime, I highly suggest this one. This anime is about cooking and how a young and very talented boy cook amzingly tasty bread. He was inspired as a child to cook and became a prodigy gaining fame and money along his journey to become the number one cook which he does in the end. Overall this anime is worth watching and I highly recommend it.

This is an anime about ... baking bread. I scratched my head at the idea too when I first heard of this. Not only that, but it's 69 episodes of bread baking. But I was surprised, Yakitate!! Japan's very addictive not to mention side-splittingly funny.

The whole storyline revolves around Azuma Kazuma, a boy born with natural baker's hands - Solar Hands! And he has the ultimate goal to make create bread by and for the Japanese people - Japan! Thus, he joins one of the largest bakery chains to realize his dreams. Along the way he meets and challenges other baking artistans.

But don't be fooled into thinking this is just another mediocre anime, it's strength lies in it's humour. The first 30 episodes are a riot to watch. Puns and parodies are thrown in to this anime making every episode a delight to watch.

Yakitate!! Japan consists of 3 story arc, the first two being especially strong and extremely enjoyable. During halfway through the 2nd arc and first bit of the 3rd arc, I could not help but notice that the production for this anime went down a few notches. The animation quality is slightly inconsistent in some episodes around the middle, and the characterizations stumble quite a bit once the 3rd arc comes running by. But I didn't find that these inconsistencies decreased my overall enjoyment of this show.

This was definitely one fun anime to watch, and I'll definitely have a few more watch throughs it again just for the jokes.

This has to be one of my favorite Anime's of all time. This anime is a breath of fresh air from all those combat, charge up animes. Despite being based on baking bread, this anime sure has a lot of action and its incredibly enjoyable. The use of parodies throughout the series is extremely funny. I highly recommend this anime to anyone that likes comedy or that likes bread. Just watch it!

To describe WHAT this show is about wouldn't do it too much justice....first, let's just say it involves competitive spirit, parodies of many many things, a perhaps atrocious amount of puns....and ideas for really tasty bread.
Fortunately, I was able to understand the references in the parodies more often than not...not completely necessary, but it does make the grin a bit bigger. :)

An anime about bread making? 69 episodes long? When I first realized these two things I laughed and thought to myself "there's no way an anime about bread can be that good to last 69 episodes." Well, I was right to a certain extent.

Yakitate!! Japan is about a boy named Azuma Kazuma and his desire to make a bread called Japan that, like the name indicates, reflects the taste/culture of the country. On his journey to accomplish this he meets friends and overcomes various obstacles and so forth. The plot is a bit predictable, but to think that this anime did it so well with a topic like bread making is quite an accomplishment.

If I had to name the strongest point of this anime it would have to be the character development. From Azuma, to Kawachi, to even Kuroyanagi each main character is developed nicely. As the viewer you know the story of each character which helps you relate to them and makes the anime more enjoyable to watch. Another strong point of this anime is that it's FREAKING HILARIOUS. I laughed out loud so many times while watching this anime (mostly at Kawachi's antics and sayings..."what was that?!?!").

The one thing I didn't like was the ending. It seemed as though the producers of the anime were in some sort of rush to end it. The ending was very abrupt and wasn't really an "ending"...it was more like a pause in the story. Also, I'd like to mention that the third arc of the anime about the television battles with St. Pierre was pretty lousy compared with the first two arcs. After the world tournament in Monaco the show kind of hit a downward trend and finally crashed in the finale.

In conclusion, I would definitely recommend watching this anime. The story might not seem all too enticing, but the humor in this anime is a must see. For an anime about break I'd say it's pretty damn good!

Like bread this anime is good freshly baked. Whenever they start a new arc it cannot be compared to the greatness of the previous arc. There are times I felt that the previous is better than this one etc. and by the last arc (Yakitiate 9!!) I accepted that conclusion. But for a cooking anime which focuses on bread only to last this long, I consider it a great plus. I did learn from this anime, though most of are about bread -making.

The strength of Yakitate!! Japan lies in its characters, not the bread or ripping off from other shows that give the comedic factor. The character's pasts and character development made this anime great. There is seriousness that revolves around each character rather than just your ordinary bread tournament. Thus, the first arcs are good because they're the ones introducing the characters, and for a 69-episode anime it is inevitable that that later parts will merely be a bread showdown.

I am definitely moved with the first episode, wanting to watch more. The Pantasia Employee Examination until the introduction of Monaco Cup got me really excited. I had mixed feelings with the Monaco Cup arc as every Pierrot reaction of his past made no sense until the very last episode of the said arc. I consider Yakitate 9, just a bread showdown due to the lack of character development, new good characters and the battles are already repetitive. I was not happy seeing Asuma win all the time, until Norihei.

Even though this anime didn't end as well as I expected (because the manga is still ongoing) it will still be one of the best animes I've seen. If you've judged Cooking Master Boy's reactions as overkill wait till you see this. I'll be looking forward to the real ending in the manga.

From the first episode onwards, the fatally funny humor ensues. Around every corner is another surprise waiting for the viewer, and you find you never get tired of all the extremely exaggerated hyperbolic statements or imagery that they use here! Everything is just comedic and slapstick, and is very effective for inducing huge chuckles.

The storyline seems to be quite normal, since it's just about baking bread after all, but the kinds of things they can invent from the ingredients is absolutely amazing. There are so many fascinating (but extremely exaggerated) ideas at work here, and it's the impossibility of the whole situation that turns the tables and makes everything so humorous!

Once the taste-testers bite into the bread, they start having fantasies like going to heaven or being plunged back into ancient times and stuff. It's really hilarous because the taste-testers' reactions to the bread is SO overstated and larger-than-life. Each time they have different metaphors depending on the nature of the bread that is being taste-tested, leaving a whole range of moments of humor with a whole variety of themes and different things to laugh about each time!

The characters were well-crafted, in that they are adapted to inducing humor as well as conveying clear-cut images of 'bad-guy' or 'good-guy', but things aren't always as they seem... In Yakitate!! Japan, the diversity of the characters and their relationships spawn even more humor as their interactions are always over-embellished.

I believe that Yakitate!! Japan is the most humorous show I have ever watched! While most other anime include elements of humor, I'd say that this is mostly about making the audience chuckle. It's hard not to burst out laughing at their very warped reactions to something as simple as BREAD!

The concept of an anime that is about bread is esoteric at best--so I was stunned to realize that I loved it!

The storry is about Azuma Kazuma whose dream is to invent the all-Japanese bread. His reasoning is that unlike France, Germany, England, etc... Japan does not domestically manufacture a bread which is recognized world wide.

In the first episode he leaves his rural village for Tokyo to participate in Pantasia Corporation's bread baking contest. Hillary ensues and shenanigans are had by everyone.

The characters are well developed, which is surprising in a show about bread. Having said that, there this anime had better potential, so I gave it low marks.

Certain characters are well drawn, others are not. Color composition is not the greatest, but during important moments the animators do come through.

To me, this anime seems a little bit on the "experimental" side, but none the less it's worth a watch. Especially if you've run out of good anime series and desperately looking for something to fill the void--like me.

This is an awesome anime!!!

The thing that stands out most is that it is VERY VERY FUNNY

I just finished watching the last episode and am satisfied thoroughly about the anime as a whole.

And that's what makes it for me, the combination of funny moments and linking of the story.

--
There are 3 story arcs.

The first one introduces you to what this anime will be like all the way through, i.e. puns and "reactions" when they eat the bread.

The second has a great story and the comedy just gets better where you don't think it could get any funnier.

The 3rd is where it gets a bit repetitive, but for me, every time it is just getting a bit repetitive, something hilarious and clever comes out of the blue! Something i would NEVER have predicted. These moments are what makes it all worthwhile.

It has nice use of background music, and I also liked the OP and ED songs. Not the very best, but pretty good songs.

I liked it better than Hikaru no Go and Full Metal Panic?fumoffu, if you want a comparison. And that's really saying something. It wasn't as funny as fumoffu, and the story's not as good as HnG, but fumoffu doesn't have a story and HnG doesn't have much comedy. And why am i comparing it to these two? Well i think a good way of describing Yakitate!! Japan is a combination of these two anime.

Oh yeah, this anime's about making bread.

A bright, young, spirited boy who happens to be a *occupation* genius, with his great love of *occupation*, on a quest to become the best at *occupation*. Here the occupation is breadmaking, but it could just as well be cooking, fishing, sports, ninja, pirates, detective.. Story/character/comedy/drama is what makes or breaks this type of anime, and Yakitate!! Japan excels in all but drama, at least for awhile.. I recommend stop watching after the big tournament / before the TV show arc.

Animation and Sound:
Nothing special, nothing to complain about.

Story:
The story of Azuma's quest was great up until the TV show arc when it started becoming repetitive. The wacky reactions was funny until it started becoming repetitive. The bread making details was interesting until it started becoming repetitive. started becoming repetitive. becoming repetitve. repetitive..

Characters:
None of the characters are interesting. Nor was there any development. The characters sole purpose was to act and speak part of the comedy, which is good enough since the comedy was good until it starting becoming repetitive.

Enjoyment:
The anime is very enjoyable with especially with cameo apperance from some of my favorite animes such as conan, naruto, and luffy from one piece.

Yakitate!! Japan is an extremely enjoyable and humorous anime that doesn't require any brain at all - in a good way. The expressions are priceless and while not much happens in 24 episodes, characters hardly develop seriously, and few change is brought about this anime is more importantly fun.

One of the best parts of this anime is the voice expressions. While the music sucks, I think the voice actors really did a good job of portraying energy and dejection. While it is somewhat dramaticized, I think its the heart of what makes this anime fun. Imagining this anime as manga seems hard to imagine as there isn't a story at all.

However, sometimes overextravagant emotional responses are way too extreme. Not only in the responses after they the bread, but also the fact how Azuma Kazuma cries so easily and is emotional touched so easily. This kind of j ust kept pounding into my head how childish he really is, despite his gift and so called "genius".

In the end despite this mindlessness, I found the humor to be extremely refreshing during a period of stress. I dont have to use my brain at all, and I can laugh at the silly humor all I want because thats just the atmosphere it brings. Despite a medicore story premise and story development, Yakitate!! japan is definitely a winner when it comes to laughing out loud relaxing humor.

A highly underrated and underwatched anime series about *baking bread*. It's one of those "wtf anime" when you first hear about it, but watch one episode and you'll most likely be hooked on its outstanding comedy and enjoyment.

The story itself wasn't too flash, nothing much happens except for bread tournaments making the story itself one of the weaker points of the anime. The characters in my opinion, weren't developed enough especially most of the "main" characters were left out in favor of seeing Azuma battle it out. The connections between the characters were weak also, it seemed the only "connected" with winning the tournament and they don't seem to have a strong connection between them (this is my opinion though). However, besides that - it is one terrific anime.

The animation is crisp and clear, the sound is appropriate although somewhat repetitive after watching 52 episodes with the same and/or similar tunes throughout the tournaments. The "reactions" are well-thought out and creative which is highly entertaining and amusing. The "feel" of the anime is "relaxing" so it's definitely a watch on those rainy days!

Overall, a highly recommended anime for all anime fans and watchers - and should be more popular than it currently is! If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend you give it a shot despite its "what the hell" theme.

Not too well known of an anime, which is a shame, but is rather refreshing to watch.

It is all about this boy trying to make a bread good enough to be called "Ja-pan", yes the pun is intended. However stupid and boring it sounds, it is really funny from the way they cook and the amazing facial expression when they taste something good.

Although it does get rather predictable, it is a good anime to watch on the side. It is funny twist on real life situations, but not too weird where it doesn't make sense.
