Obviously this is not for everyone. This is only for those interested in submarine warfare and can be fooled by the great graphics. The anime is good, though 2 eps of submarine fighting is not actually anything like Gundam fighting. And the story actually does not have an ending its just a brief intro into one long story. This can be a good anime provided with a longer story.

To be honest, I found this title in a markdown bin, so I didn't have high hopes for it. But I thought it was worth a try. The characters on the box looked interesting, anyway, though one guy has an upside-down cross tattoo on his arm, making it look like he's a death metal Satan worshipper or something. He was balanced out by the fat kid sitting on the ground, eating (obvious comic relief).

Well, I was very pleasantly surprised by this, though disappointed to find out that this is all there is to the series. Kinda like Shinesman, huh? The animation is top notch, the characters are interesting and there are some unique story elements, especially where the battles are concerned. I really love the machine designs in this one, including those super-computers. Would have been nice to know their backstory more.

Only complaints about this movie are that this is all there is, which is a real shame, and that there is some gratuitous fan service in it. It's not too offensive, really, but it is very out of place, I feel. Two examples are how the captain's young wife dresses like a teenage prostitute...and that's around the house in front of their young daughter! Another example is a military woman's chest bouncing during a tense moment before a battle. Came out of nowhere and just made me roll my eyes.

Overall, I'm very glad I bought this! I really wish there was more, because this is easily a series I could have gotten into and enjoyed for a long time.

Submarine 707R is actually quite a fun and exciting show despite its incomplete story and vague characters. The biggest problem is that the series rolls out story elements that don't make sense or that are not developed any way. A good example of the former are super computers that control submarines. Where did they come from? Why are there so many of them? What is their relationship? Of the latter both of the captain's families are introduced, the viewer gets an idea of something going on but that is never clarified or looked deeply in. Especially I would have liked a closer look on the enemy because it definately seemed a cool mysterious organization but is too mysterious to get any grasp of it.

The series is only two episodes long which accounts for most of the problems mentioned above. The characters seem interesting. There are some annoyances like the three boys. Is one them actually wearing a collar? Yes. *shrudder* But mostly they give away an aura of people with good character and I could follow their adventures for a bit longer. Battles are an integral part of the series and they are made well. The animation looks good and the action is intense and exciting. This is what Tide-Line Blues battles should have felt like. Animation is in general smooth and the machine design is impressive. The only actual complaint is that the characters look a bit too much like their roles. Sound gives the series a proper mood changing with intensity as do the voice actors.

707R is a watchable series even if it doesn't end with any satisfaction and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. For nice submarine battles, this series is a good choice.

The animation level is just below that of Macross Zero. This anime is not very well known to the masses but if you find a copy its great to watch if you enjoy great action scenes. Downpoint of this oav? Ending is not great, not terrible, just non-existant. Seems like they had a an awesome bufget but forgot to finish the story...yadda yadda made me crave more and I am not sure if theres another source to conclude the story.

All in all I do not regret watching, for what is there is great entertainment.
