| "Shin Angyo Onshi" ist leider mal wieder nur so ein Teaser-Movie für den gleichnamigen (koreanischen) Manga und deckt somit nur die ersten paar Kapitel des selbigen ab. Das hat die üblichen Nachteile zur Folge, wie unzureichende Hintergrunderörterung der auftretenden Charaktere, so gut wie überhaupt keine Entwicklung der Figuren und natürlich das obligatorische offene Ende bei dem man sofort weiß das die Geschichte nicht abgeschlossen ist. Die Storygrundlage ist alt hergeholt und es dreht sich um einen einsamen Krieger der der letzte seiner Art ist und scheinbar ziellos durch die Lande streift. Dabei stößt er dann auf Sachen die seine Aufmerksamkeit erregen und ihn dazu veranlassen seine magischen Künste sprechen zu lassen. Der Film besteht aus 2 kleinen Storyabschnitten die beide nach diesem Muster verlaufen und präsentiert sich dabei alles in allem höchstens als leichtköstige Kost des etwas gehobenen Durchschnitts. Das heißt soviel wie, nicht unbedingt langweilig aber auch nicht sonderlich herausragend. Zwar kann zumindest der 2. Abschnitt mit dem ein oder anderen Twist aufwarten und lässt sogar auch noch ein wenig Dramatik zum Vorschein kommen aber in der Summe ist das zu guter letzt nicht wirklich üppig was man hier kredenzt bekommt. Bei den Charakteren gilt so ziemlich das gleiche, nur ist der Film in dieser Sparte leider noch um einiges dünner. Mir gefiel der Anti-Held in der Hauptrolle, trotz dem stark angestaubten, herkömmlichen Rache-Motiv, recht gut und auch seine Taten und seine Bewegründe für selbige sind nicht die des typischen Durchscnitts-Renegades. Leider versäumt es der Film komplett näher auf ihn einzugehen und das man in den ersten Kapiteln eines Mangas (auf denen der Film ja bekanntlich basiert) nicht sofort alles über den Protagonisten erzählen will schlägt sich bei dieser Movie-Umsetzung am Ende negativ zu Buche. Potential ist aber durchaus zu erkennen, besonders eine Entwicklung der Beziehung zwischen SanDo und Mun-Su hätte ich gerne gesehen denn hier ist viel Luft nach oben für evtl. später eintretende emotionale und einfühlsame Ereigenisse. So aber bleiben die beiden nichts weiter als in den Rollen des schroffen Haudegens und der zierlichen, wortkargen Dienerin stecken die beide ordentlich austeilen und dann zusammen weiterziehen, mehr nicht. Trotz dieser etwas harschen Worte muss ich aber sagen das mir "Shin Angyo Onshi" doch ziemlich gut gefallen hat und der Grund dafür ist ziemlich simpel: Die Action! Diese ist nämlich hervorragend animiert und sowohl choreographisch ein Highlight als auch sehr effektreich. Hier gibt es neben butterweichen und rasanten Bewegungsabläufen der Charaktere auch noch Slow-Motion und Bullet-Time-Sequenzen zu bestaunen, die kaum ein Auge trocken lassen. Ich habe mir ständig gewunscht die Fight-Szenen würden EWIG dauern, so gut haben sie mir gefallen. Hinzu kommen dann noch sehr atmosphärische Kulissen, wie z.B. ein brennender Wald in dem sich 2 Kontrahenten beharken während die vom Wind durch die Luft getragenen Funken um sie herum tanzen. Auch sonst hat der Film einige bildgewaltige Momente die die Stimmung der jeweiligen Szene sehr gut einfangen. Das das Ganze von einem ebenso gelungenen Soundtrack untermalt wird, macht die ganze Sache nur noch runder. Tja, im Endeffekt kann man "Shin Angyo Onshi" zumindest von technischer Seite als überaus gelungen bezeichnen. Inhaltlich stehen allerdings viele Sachen zu Buche die leider verhindern das dieser Film etwas Größeres sein könnte. Dennoch würde ich jedem hier einen Blick empfehlen der sich von einem kurzweiligen Action-Streifen unterhalten lassen will, den in dieser Hinsicht ist "Shin Angyo Onshi" auf jeden Fall mehr als gutes Entertainment. Ich fühle mich sogar ein wenig dazu motiviert mir den Manga zu kaufen und ein Film der mich dazu anregt muss zwangsläufig seine guten Seiten haben. ^_-

| I have no idea there is a manga of this story, or is there anymore to it, but one thing is certain ths was very enjoyable-all action anime. The same feeling I got when watching ROD ova. This is quite a violent anime when you look at it. Violence as low as watching FMA and it gets higher than that.

| If you have not read the manga that is in relation to this movie - which you can find scanlations for up to volume 6, and is running over 12 volumes in Japan - it's best to stay clear of this movie until you have. The movie will be better explained and far more enjoyable that way.
I can understand that they only had an hour and half to fit in a decent story so some aspects and story lines were dropped in-between for more of the important story lines but I imagine it makes the movie very confusing for those just starting out, if I hadn't read the manga before this my ratings would be much lower. If you've read the manga first you can look at this as an awesome bonus to the already incredible manga series, I'm sure.
Just like the manga, this movie has a darker and bloodier story line then most shounen manga, it doesn't get to touch much on the real plot of the manga however but none the less I found it very enjoyable.
Still, unfortunately not recommended if you have not read a few volumes of the manga because it doesn't do so well in the explanation department.

| On the whole, a very unimpressive movie. I can only name a few good points. Nice art, nice fighting, and hot girl(?). But one can find this type of characteristics in any other anime, (esppecially movie).
However, what sets this movie apart from the others is that it starts from a weird point and ends at a weird point. I dont know if there is a series, and it would make a lot more sense if there was. But you dont' nkow anything about the main character, a little bit about the secondary character, and nothing else. No history, no story no origins. You dont know why he's fighting.
Yet, this isn't a pure fighting anime. It isnt' some mindless thing. There is a story, somewhere, untold. Maybe a manga? But it certainly isn't in here. This is like one of those short One Piece of Inu Yasha side plot movies where some guy happens upon somewhere to do something totally unrelated to some story except what might be established in the first episodes. Anyway, this movie... wholly impressive. Aside from the decent fighting scenes (only the sword ones were interesting), there is nothing to be sought here

| This anime shows promise. It is basically about a wandering Angyo Onshi, Munsu. Angyo Onshi are special envoys of the emperor who have the power to dispense justice in his name, they are basically judge, jury and executioner.
Munsu is one of the most powerful Angyo Onshi unfortunately the emperor is dead, the empire of Jushin is in ruins. Now Munsu travels the empire, trying to set things right (if he is interested enough) and along the way he picks up a pretty bodyguard, Sando (she is very deadly with a sword).
Shin Angyo Onishi is set in a alternate universe where swords, guns, and mysticism (Munsu can summom a hundred phantom warriors to do his bidding) are in abundance. It is heavily influenced by Korean Folklore/history. This movie is by no means complete, its more like an intro, a taste to wet the appetite.
The animation are beautifully drawn and animated. The sound and music quality are good. Munsu's adventures are entertaining as well educational as in sense you learn about the darker nature of being human and our capacity to self-deceive.
One thing I enjoyed about the anime was how it kept me guessing on whats going to happen next. Generally you can tell whats going to happen because story/plot formulas are so often reused again and again in anime. I also like the main characters, Munsu and Sando. Munsu seems like a world weary traveler, a realist and to accomplish his missions, will do whatever it takes. Most would think he was a cold-hearted bastard. Sando is the opposite, she is sweet as well as naive at times. She is an idealist and trys to see the good in people even to the detriment of herself and others.
Overall, an interesting anime.

Yeah, one major weakness of the movie was its' vague main storyline/character background (you have to read the manga for more info). There was one line at the very end (not sure if it was before or after the credits)that gave a general idea of Munsu's main mission/goal and also when he was speaking with the human/demon? on the island. Basically he is searching for the man who destroyed the empire of Jushin. Its a 90 minutes movie so don't expect too much. Also as of this review, the manga is still currently running in Japan. I found the movie interesting enough to read the manga. My rating is as high as it is because of the manga, which has more info on Munsu's story/background.
