And here I just finished watching Gun x Sword, another show that felt just like Trigun. Consider Grenadier Trigun for guys. The lead character is....well, very attractive....very well endowed. And let's just say she knows how to put it to good use.

I feel this AND Gun x Sword are musts for people who like Trigun, but I'll compare a little regardless.

Grenadier is a bit of a sexier show. However, its audio is a little weaker than Gun x Sword or even Trigun. Not simply due to technical issues (as this is the only one where 2.0 is your only option), but the English dubbing in Grenadier seemed rather weak (where the other shows had pretty strong English dubs). But its still satisfactory overall with some catchy toons.

Another flaw was the carryover of another Trigun aspect that was no longer present in Gun x Sword. The fact that the lead would rather not fight and solve everything in a peaceful way, preaching that philosophy. Thus, many fights she's simply dodging bullets and running until she finds a way to win without killing, if of course she decides to fight back at all. Its still a little beyond my belief that these people who use fighting as a last possible resort would be pretty much the strongest people alive.

But there's positive aspects as well. Compared to Gun x sword, which really dragged out the final conflict, this show seems fairly brief. Being 12 episodes, it simply doesn't feel like it drags at all. Gives it a more pristine feel, and helps that I enjoyed what seemed like every minute of it.

Overall though, its fun but fairly simple shows like these that I simply wind up going back to. A must own for my collection. Its simply a good time for guys, and Rushuna is just gorgeous. Very typecast, but every moment she was on screen was glorious to save the least, and I would've been more than happy to have 12 more episodes.

Every guy should see this show. While not the most original or earth shattering, its quite fun and pretty entertaining to boot. Even features one of the coolest shootout scenes I've ever seen. RECOMMENDED.

This anime had some powerful characters, but for some reason moved what could be main characters to sideline, and only focused on one. So its bit of wasted potential there.

Visuals are quite good albeit a bit too bright at times. Overall very fluid action.

Audio is also good, no complains.

This is a very fun and easy to watch, slightely ecchi but mostly fast action anime that should suit most ppl for a quick viewing.

This anime is about the journey of Rushuna (a 16 year old gunslinger with breasts bigger than her head) and Yajiro (a mercenary swordsman who hates guns) towards the capital, and a meeting with Rushuna's mentor, Tenshi.

The battle animations are decent; effects arn't anything too spectacular, but in a show like this I wasn't expecting too much in the first place. The character models were all fairly similar: women with gigantic chests and handsome, skinny men with spikey hair. However, some of the animations are extremely repetitive; for example, the motion of Rushuna reloading by "flipping" her breasts and popping out bullets. Also, Rushuna's dress gets cut in the exact same place every fight (of course, right between her breasts).

The soundtrack is decent: I liked the final fight-scene song with its Mexican Western/Fantasy feel. The opening and ending songs were also "mythical" in nature, and fit well with the genre of the series and the theme of pacificism.

The story, as to be expected of an anime with only 12 episodes, is simplistic and full of holes. The main themes of the anime are "The Ultimate Fighting Technique"'s guidelines: beat your enemy without fighting, and destroy his will to fight by taking them into your busom. And, apparently, "taking them into your busom" is meant to *literally* take their heads and place them in your gigantic naked boobs, not to figuratively emphasize with their plight. And, really, this "Ultimate Fighting Technique" is never really used: every fight is solved with fighting and guns/swords/hands. The entire philosophy reflects the naivete of Tenshi and Rushuna.

The story is utterly predictable; you won't be surprised by any of the "twists", and the story really isn't that interesting anyway.

I have seen this anime compared to Trigun; I believe that is an apt comparison. The major difference being that, while Trigun was a male-dominated series, with all the major heroes and villians being male, Grenadier is a female-dominated series, with most major heroes and villians being female (with two or three minor exceptions). The similarities are quite apparent: both feature main characters which abhor violence due to their mentor/friend from the past, both carry revolvers, and both try to put on smiles for the world and prevent violence. Also, both of their ultimate battles are of a personal nature, and test their conviction in their beliefs.

Besides Rushana, none of the characters are remotely interesting. Yajiro seems pointless as a character, serving only to participate in "embarassing" moments involving Rushuna's breasts, and serving as a starting point for flashbacks about the rebellion. He is given little development; we find out a bit about his past but there isn't much development in his character besides his apparant infatuation with Rushuna. As for Mikan, she is given about 30 seconds of cursory background information and does little to advance the plot; she also has no development whatsoever. The only truly interesting side character is the spear-wielding former Juttensen (similar to the Gung-Ho Gang of Trigun, or the Juppon Gatana from Rurouni Kenshin) who also runs a "pleasure palace"; her unique way of fulfilling Tenshi's ideals.

Rushuna is interesting mainly because strong female main characters are so few and far between. Rushana is also interesting due to the contrast between her naive beliefs and her ability to fight; this constantly vexes even her during the series, as she struggles to reconcile her actions with her beliefs, and to find a way to win battles according to the pacificistic ways of her mentor.

This anime doesn't have too much value; I won't be re-watching it, and I wouldn't reccomend it to people before a multitude of other, better, anime with similar qualities. Such as Noir, which also features gun-toting women.

While this anime is semi-entertaining, it gets old pretty fast and the simplistic plot and lack of supporting cast really brings the anime down.

In history, man has always been the ones who go into battle for reasons such as protecting their family from invaders, being famous and getting bounty. There has been countless wars that had took the lives of millions and what could be the weapon that would remove their bloodlust desires?...a pair of oversized breasts!

Yes, this is what the show, Grenadier, is trying to portray. Pacifism in the form of perversity. I doubt that it will happen in real life, but that'll be totally awesome, lol.

For designs, it was pretty generic. For an action series, the fights are short lived and you can expect moves like dodging, slashing, shooting and guarding. Stuff like that, but no extra flair that made me want more except when Rushuna tries to reload. What originality. Background was your typical bland and boring ancient Japan-China. Could be better...

Now we're reaching the crest of this anime. The OP and ED were both very soothing and made me experience tranquility whenever I hear it. BGM is hardly memorable action ones. Voice acting was okay, but the shouting of special moves during battles is a complete anime cliche that we really don't need it during this century.

The story is about a senshi called Rushuna who journeys to bring peace in her chaotic era. Sounds trite, right? But put in lots of fanservice and the show starts adding up some spice. Lol, this has been done before with shows like Trigun, Saiyuki and other adventure anime. But I didn't like it for the story. You'll probably know what I'm after. That's why I added it an extra point in story.=P

Characters are unlikeable. We have a buxom, blonde babe with an intelligence of a child and a naivete the size of the world, a swordsman with a past that I don't really give a damn and a kid with the ability to make balloons (is that even an ability?) Not the most original characters, but it gets the job done when they show fanservice, haha.

Aah, value. Seeing as how it's immensely short, you could probably bother yourself buying the three DVD's if you want it for the fanservice and...frankly, that's all I can think about for the reason even getting this.

Lol, I enjoyed it because it made me laugh for the illogical thinking and actions of these "deep" people and of course the fanservice. As long as there is a demand for beautiful, big-breasted women and panties, fanservice will never die.

Hot "16" year old babe with enormous bosom and expert skill with an old fashioned 6-shooter travels through the Japanese countryside pummeling various bosses by using creative tactics to counter their strengths. Pretty standard fare when it comes to the boss battles, although her gun-toting fighting style and too-friendly personality are unique.

There's also a sword-wielding male companion who has fighting abilities and a rough personality, replete with spiky hair of course. Most of the series explores the relationships between the characters and their pasts. It's a good story with a twist or two. People help each other and friends are made along the way while the enemies are vanquished one by one--some enemies turn into friends too and I kind of like when that happens. There's a token annoying little kid/girl but she helps out some with her inventive toys. Good finale with a mirror match of sorts! Many fights involve the ripping off of clothing as turning points.

Music is fitting, some trancy and also Mexican western style guitars. A couple of gorgeous females and great animation overall. The series is short but moves along nicely without any useless moments. Steady ecchi shots for those wanting them, both in fights and in the frequent bath scenes. Scattered blood here and there.

If for nothing else, you have to check out how this girl and her mirror boss reload, it's one of a kind.

grenadier was such a fun and enjoyable series with some awesome and cutting edge fighting scenes.

animation-for the most part the animation was good and the characters were all drawn very well especially rushuna.you can see alot of detail in the background scenary.another thing about the animation is that when she shot a gun you can see the smoke come out the gun.

sound-the oppening kohaku sounded so nice and southing. when rushuna shoots you can here the bullets being shot thats how good the sound effects are.

story-many people say that this is trigun with boobs ,but i highly disagree this was way more entertaining than trigun was and maybe the plots were simialar in some ways but there were differences, such as in grenadier it doesnt take a long time for her to shoot you and she gives you a smile and vash doesnt.

character-best part of the serties . i love rushuna her character design is top notch yes she has big boobs so what.clown was also a very cool and mysterious character that was very cool .

enjoyment- it has alot of fanservice , but it made me happy and had me laughing alot especially when mikan joined the group. if you like a good eechi action show plz check this out.

Pros : It seems like a killer mix of girls-with-guns (in a semi-fantasy semi-old western setting) and generic shounen anime staples (goofy "bosses", lots of running around all over the place) a few dramatic sub-plots can trap the viewer into thinking this isn't a show all about fan service. There are a few likable characters.

Cons : Nothing really special here. Just a slightly entertaining show that is unusually shounen and spirsed with lots of silly (yet never very funny) bits. It's difficult for me to assess this one.. on one hand, I can't think of much that is special about it, and I can think of alot that it is lacking (the story is as dumb as can be, nothing really really good, no feeling of accomplishment.) On the other hand, it was easy to watch, fun at times, and somehow I look back at it somewhat fondly. Strange how things work out. Maybe it was just too cheerful for my own good.

If you like bouncing boobies, then this one is for you! haha j/k, but seriously now. The only real reason to watch this series is for the action and the busts, which are the key characteristics of the women in Grenadier. This is not one of those anime that makes you think, or that you will probalby remember for years to come. Instead, it is just for a few cheap laughs and for seeing the Grenadier with her unique style of marksmanship.

Overall this was a good anime. I saw all twelve episodes through one setting. The sound was good, especially the sound effects such as: bullets, swords, and the walking through the snow were very realistic IMO. The animation was good; characters did not look flat (no pun intended), and bright rich colors. I thought the whole "bullets from boobs" scenes were to repetitive, but it's ecchi... The story falters because the main character's ideal's and weapon are similar to Trigun, so it is not an original idea. The characters were pretty good, and they were developed well enough to understand in twelve, but a couple of them were rushed. Although the characters were overall good, some of the Grenadier characters are too similar to Trigun characters. I think the replay value is pretty high if you like ecchi, and a little bit of action. However, I thought too much emphasis was placed on ecchi (hot springs are everywhere), so don't think this is a pure action title, because it is an ecchi title at heart.

Grenadier is racked with things that i simply hated, including token characters (Mikan), the main character's occasional ditsyness, gimmicky fighting techniques, a supporting character that's supposed to grow and change, but has a growing process that is more sudden than anything, and finally, the main character's...interesting body.

On the other hand, the main character, when she's not ditsy, is almost a perfect model of a "Hero" character, and overall, the series has enough dramatic encounters and catch lines to make it interesting, and ultimately, enjoyable, but only if you can get by the unbearably corny and nonsensical parts.

Grenadier also suffers from a lot of foot dragging and a repetitive script. It's action sequences are drawn out by these "smoke scenes" where someone generates a lot of smoke in an attack, and everyone has to wait to see if the attack did anything. These scenes are meant to leave the viewer excited to find out the outcome, but seeing how often this trick is used in Grenadier as well as other badly choreographed action anime, it's completely predicatable. You know if the fight's over or not.

The script is filled with repetitive speechs like "That's what i would have expected from a jutensen." Barely noticable when used sparingly, but when used as much as it is in Grenadier, it gets annoying fast.

The smaller issues aside, Grenadier has more flaws still. The core of the show, this "ultimate battle strategy" is really like philosophy for a 3rd grader, and not only that, when this strategy is used towards the end, it's not even used coherent to the philosophy.

Grenadier is far too nonsensical to be really engrossing. The philosophy lessons sound like they're for 7 year olds while the character designs suggest a teen target audience. Also prostitution to take away people's will to fight? Are we suppose to buy that? Are we supposed to see that as heroic?

My final gripe is uninspired villains and bad supporting heroes. Mikan does nothing, and yajirou's development is too jumpy to buy. More importantly, there's absolutely nothing interesting about these two characters.

The soundtrack of Grenadier isn't bad. I like the OP and ending, but the regular soundtrack works pretty well too. There's no real distinguishing quality, but it's not ugly, and it has enough flare to catch your attention.

But the only reason Grenadier was enjoyable at all for me was because Rusyuna outside of her ditsyness (Ditsyness for a main character, especially in an action anime is not the way to go) makes an unwavering image of a hero, but even then, her annoying side often kicks in and i find myself hating her.

Maybe some people have a soft spot for Grenadier because of Rusyuna or something, but there's no debating that this is a low quality work. If you look at the repetitive script, the uninspired characters, the weak philosophy lessons, the zany plot, and the excessive use of still frames rather than real action, I don't think there can be argument on that. Still, the first time around, i vaguely enjoyed it.

I've seen this compared to Trigun, I don't think it's a valid description. Yes, it's about a gun user that refuses to kill...similarities end there. Frankly, it's got fast and fun gun action. It's not meant to be realistic but simply an action romp. The character although little developing are enjoyable and help give this characteristics. The story isn't that awe inspiring, but it's enough for a good time.

Holy big beachball breasts bouncing bullets batman! This series does so many things wrong. The straight-forward plot, the underdeveloped characters, the contrived story elements, the shallow and ridiculous themes, the fan-service, the exaggerated, erm, body parts, modern looking guns in a feudal era, that ridiculous reload sequence that gets repeated over and over again, the lack of sensible motivations for some of the character's action, the really ridiculous finale. All of this should have added up to a rather mediocre series that should have been the subject of my scorn.

Yet, some how it doesn't. In fact, I found myself *enjoying* this anime. Enjoying it quite alot.

Why?

Maybe it's the pretty good animation? It is, overall, rather appealing, and the action is well animated, especially the final battle sequence.

Maybe it is the lead protagonist, Rushuna Tendou? I do shamelessly admit that I do like big breasts, which she does have (ok, gigantic might be a better description...), and minus those, her overall design is quite appealing, from her long blond hair to her rather nice looking outfit, including that cute, almost western-looking hat with its red bow. And she is definitely a strong protagonist (except a couple times when she got basically a flesh wound...). She has some extremely good skill with that revolver.

Maybe it's the surprising potential of Yajiro Kojima? The samurai that joins with Rushuna in her travels? I can't deny that I found him a very interesting, if undeveloped, character.

Maybe it's the awesome soundtrack. Though it does have a fairly standard set of orchestral and J-pop pieces, it also includes some incredible spanish guitar and euro-techno tracks. I'll have to collect the OST for this series just for those.

So, in the end, really, I like it for all of the above, and for the fact that the series takes Rushina's journey halfway seriously. It actually holds the rather silly "ultimate battle strategy" right to the very end. It was stupid and idiotic, and gosh-darned it, I liked it.

In the end, it *is* an average anime. Just an average one that I really enjoyed. If you require depth, sense, or realism, skip this one. But if you're looking for an action-comedy anime and like cute girls that can fight, especially busty blonds with a revolver, then give the first episode a try. If you enjoyed that one, the rest of _Grenadier ~Hohoemi no Senshi~_ should be just as enjoyable.

Characters are cool, funny, and strong, especially Rushuna. She has everything, and i know guys would want her if she was a real person. It's a thirteen episode anime, urge all to buy the anime because we can help the anime world, and because it is also good.

I can only give credit to this anime's "looks" and some of its music. While it is interesting to see "big chest woman with guns" but the fighting styles was awful and very unrealistic. The biggest failure of this anime is its ideals. I am sure some women's ideal world-peace would work a million years from now (if mankind survives) but definitely not now. Such idealism greatly hurt this anime's value because it makes the story very childish and even illogical. For instance, almost every villian in this story gave up their ways after confronting Rushuna -- this is the worst mistake. Everyone has their own believes and ideals. Everyman follows their own ideals and pursue their goal. The "Tenshi" have her ideas and others can disagree. If everyone must follow her thoughts (as the ending of this anime purposes), then isn't this another type of dictatorship? So therefore, this anime is self-contradicting. Furthermore, another big problem with this anime is the villians' lacking of emotions. Those villans seemed to readily give up before the fights even start. Such depictions of "evil" are not just simple disagreement with reality but is just simply impossible. This story talk about jealousy, ambition, love, hate, vengeance and many other top-level emotions that makes us human. Yet, the author fails to protray them vividly. Lastly, I want to say to all readers, "smile in front of your enemy will COST YOUR LIFE." Definitely :)

When I asked someone what this was they told me "Trigun with boobs". lol. It didn't hold anything next to Trigun but it holds its own. This was pretty enjoyable. Something about women and guns. The main story is a little silly but when you see Rushuna 'take the armor' off of her opponents you do get that Vash persona and I kinda enjoy series like that. Not all about the violence but not too soft on it either. The main story does lack some as its a quest but its almost impossible to predict what is going to happen next. Watch an ep, see if you can stop after that.

I was pleasantly surprised by this series. Despite the warnings of Rusyuna's ample breasts and similarities to Trigun, this was a nice story.

Animation wise, nicely done. Aside from the occasional oily style of the skin on characters sometime, it was good. Nice bright colours, appropriate lighting. Buildings and backrgrounds had exceptional detail.

Good voice actors. The presence of (Mugen's Samurai Champloo) voice actor for Yajirou was a good choice. Ditto the one for Rusyuna. Some villian voices were annoying. Music was good. Good use of panpipes and Spanish guitars.

Storywise, it actually tries to be anti-Trigun. It's far more Eastern than it is Western, make no mistake about that. A journey to learn about the world and a nice anti-violence message. A pity the plot wasn't that surprising in how it panned out. Still entertaining though.

Characters were great. Rusyuna was a real energy packet, very positive, sexy, entertaining. Yajirou and Mikan both provided good personalities to compliment via Yajirou's colder style and Mikan's youthful vibrance. The villians and Tenshi were a bit underdone. Overall, solid. Good development of who the three main characters were and how they changed through the journey.

I think at some point I might even watch this again. Heck, Rusyuna's 'reloading' technique really isn't offputting at all. Okay, so several females have insanely large breasts. But the females in this show are enver really demeaned. In fact, they ar equite empowered and independent. This is what makes Grenadier far better than shows like Tenjou Tenge and Great Teacher Onikuza. Try this and don't be too judgemental early on. An underrated series compared to the overal standard of 2004 titles.

This anime is a quite decent mix guns, pseudo-historical setting, and of course, a whole lot of fan service ^_^

The story is rather classic (and short), and tells about a journey through which the characters will help people, reveal themselves (both meanings) and evolve (to some extent). Nothing you haven't seen or heard before, nothing that you won't predict with $0.02 of attention, but it's told nicely and enjoyably, which IMO is all that matters when telling a story.

If the animation is mostly about fan service (and serving the fights), it is rather well choreographed, dynamic and often quite imaginative - can't get over that gun reload sequence :)
The animation and drawing would have gotten a 10 if not for the exagerated proportions (exageration is common in anime, but here it's just too much).
The aural side, if classic and often videogame-like, does its job, the themes are catchy, the voice acting consistent.

The series is rather short, made of several mini-arcs and could probably have been fleshed out to 24 episodes without being stretched, which might have allowed a bit more inter-character relationship development. That's pretty much my only gripe: this series is too short!

Grenadier is like Trigun, guns-no kill theory. But the story is like Kino no tabi + Ikkitousen (more on this below). It is ok, but it does not hold for long. Another thing is the reliance on a mediocre story but with good charactrers good sound, does not last that long. Good thing this is only 12 episodes, as it could bore you. It has a good story, but finding it maybe a challange for some as animation & sound does dominate here.

NOTE: Don't be too quick to judge this show. The female lead being a big-chested young woman, this is at first glance and for the most part a guy's anime.

However, if you're able to see past the bouncing and the frequent hot springs scenes, then you'll realize that this show isn't that bad.

People compare this to Trigun, and many are all-too-ready to proclaim name Trigun the better series. Well, I can't say I disagree, but I must give Grenadier due respect, because underneath the fanservice is a very cleverly done anime.

From the reload sequence to the defeat of the Ten Sages, most people will think, "Wow, that was pretty cool."

I can't stress this enough, don't be quick to judge. Just because the lead character has large breasts, a cute voice, and over-the-top moves, she doesn't rely solely on them to keep the anime moving. She's got brains to go with it too. It's just that most people wouldn't realize that until a few episodes into the series.

Animation, music, and enjoyment value are top notch here. If only the show did not alienate the whole female audience, this show would receive much more recognition for being as entertaining as it really is.

Putting aside the lovely, big breasted hero girl, and the rest of the fan-service, one can really enjoy this series. Well, I did enjoy the series with the breasts, but I thought the message that this series put across was very great, it had wonderful moral values that everyone should show to the world. I really did enjoy this series and would love to own it on dvd someday. Fun characters, fun story if you can put aside the usual cliche, but who cares, seriously, look at the beautiful message this series has to give, and you'll enjoy it.
