| This anime is one of the best I've seen at depicting a love story honestly, and it's one of the few that can make me cry almost every time I watch it. The mecha are a bit... pointless (actually anything in the anime not directly related to the relationships of Chikane, Himeko, and Souma is pretty pointless), but they don't take up too much of the show, so it's alright. While this may not be one of the *best* anime I've ever seen, it's actually my favorite. Definitely worth watching if you like a good romance.

| Based on 6 episodes:
One might criticize me for reviewing this anime only 6 episodes through, but this is already 50% through the whole thing. I believe that a lack of enjoyment through the important first half is enough reason to stop watching this series, no matter how good the latter half is.
This anime is one of those short bittersweet romance animes that build up a background plot in the beginning, and then begin pouring heavy emotions towards the end (I would assume) as the characters start getting their lives twisted around each other. While there are aspects of mecha and the supernatural, this anime is primarily a romance. To make things even more interesting, the main character (Himeko) has both a female and male love interest fighting for her attention.
I found the background plot to be utterly ridiculous. A sun miko and a moon miko happen to be in the same school, when out of nowhere the 7 parts of a demon that resides on the moon come out to revive the demon. The two mikos must do some sort of ritual in order to summon their own guardian to seal the demon once again. One of the parts of the demon, a boy who also has love interest in the main character, manages to fight his instincts with his desire to protect the girl, and acts to defeat all the other parts of the demon.
In this anime, every character is related to the other. It all felt like some sort of dirty incest anime. Is there any good reason why they all had to be located in one school? one city? Aside from this, I DID like Chikane's character a lot. At first, she seems like a perfect model student, but as she realizes that she cannot have all that she desires, she starts getting moody and destructive. Although I did not watch to the end, I felt like Chikane's role would leave a deep impact on Himeko.
Anyway, my conclusion is that while there is ONE interesting character in this anime (and some nice animation and music), the utterly boring first half makes this anime a MISS. Why bother watching something if the whole thing is only 12 episodes short and is not completely high quality. Not recommended.
Edit: I watched another 2 episodes to 8. Oh god. This is really ridiculous - the things people do. I must ask: where do they get these crazy ideas from?

| Kannazuki no Miko is a wonderful anime. WOW! Kannazuki no Miko is an anime I have gotten to see in a while. The story is about a girl named Himeko who loves this guy and respects this girl. But the girl she respects has fallen in love with her and the guy becomes her boyfriend. And somehow they introduce Mecha Robots to fight and it gets kind of cool. Kinda weird how this anime has machines and love-romance. I don't know what this audience would watch this, but heck it's good. Boys might watch it for the mecha part, but not get interested in the love-romance part. While girls will watch this for the love-romance, but totally hate the mecha part. I loved both of them and that made this anime a big plus for me.
The animations are really nice for a 2004 anime. The colors are bright and colorful and the character designs are awesome. *sigh* I wish they made a second season, but oh well I might watch Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora. (But, I heard that anime wasn't as good as this)
The music is awesome in this anime. The OP is one of the best ones I've heard in an anime. It's an upbeat techno song that really fits in with the anime. The ED song was a nice slow slong that was really good. Both songs are played well for the twelve episodes they have. I would give the sound an eleven, but I can't go that high. The voice actors are excellent and I wished I could hear them in other animes, but I guess this is what makes Kannazuki no Miko so special.
The characters in this anime are awesome. First you have Himeko who is a little shy and kind hearted and innocent. Some people hate her, but I seem to like her and her attitude. Then you have Chikane who is your super popular pretty girl in the school. Chikane and Himeko are some of the two best female characters I have seen. Chikane is someone who will go with what she believes in and will do anything to make someone happy, even if it means hurting herself. Then we have Oogami Souma who is the main male lead in this anime. Souma is another good male character in this anime. He will protect Himeko no matter what happens and he is very loyal and honest. I love all the characters and I even love the minor characters in this anime.
Kannazuki no Miko is one of the first animes I've seen that does love-romance/mecha/drama/fantasy/action/coolness all together and they do it so well. Every episode leaves you off with wanting to watch more and it works well, especially in the end. So, give Kannazuki no Miko a chance and the worst that can happen is that you hated it. But I totally loved this anime and I hope you can too if you watch it.

| After seeing the first episode I thought this was going to be pretty bad. The whole mecha thing was introduced kinda carelessly and the first kiss looked more like a cheap gloss, since the characters weren't yet fully delineated and their motivations were unclear to me.
But! Kannazuki no Miko becomes *significantly* better after the first three episodes and the ending is made of pure win! Chikane and Himeko are beautifully portrayed and the scenarists sure did know when to add a hefty portion of pathos; in fact the ending is so sad and moving that it almost borders on emotional extortion of the viewers :-)

| Kannazuki No Miko was a title i was very leery about seeing. Many people had different opinions about this series.. ive heard many people say it was an "outstanding anime filled with realistic emotions", but i also heard it was a "full of plastic lesb0 sex cliches" (yes, someone actually said it was plastic). However, the show in my opinion, while not amazing to any extent, is fairly entertaining and does strike you with certain emotions i did not expect to feel.
As far as animation goes, its quite nice, although at times the characters appearance's are inconsistent. There are times when i noticed Himeko's hair as long as Chikane's, and sometimes Chikane's hair was as short as Himeko's. Aside from that, the animation was fairly solid and consistent.
The music in the show is quite catchy. I could expect nothing less from Kotoko.
The story is where the show lacks a bit for the first several episodes. As a matter of fact, when i watched the first episode, i thought i had never seen something more retarded in my life. The whole mecha deal jumped from out of nowhere and it was cliche after cliche. I knew from the start Himeko would be the crybaby and Chikane would be the brave 'prince-ish' female character who would save her from all of the bad guys, etc etc. I heavily considered dropping the show after the horror, but for some reason I kept watching. The second and third episode weren't too different from the first. At that point i decided i would only watch it for laughs! It just felt odd, the whole deal of Himeko and Chikane being priestesses.. if that was realistic in any way, they would have been shocked to death when they found out. It just seemed in the episode, they were like "yay we're priestesses who have to save the world from ultimate destruction!" "Oh my god Souma is my enemy?" "hey Souma wanna go on a date?". It just felt tacky and cliche to me. It was only until episode 7-8 when i started to get into the whole plot. Id say the first 5 episodes would be the biggest obstacle to overcome.
The characters were somewhat likeable. I never liked Himeko until the last few episodes, the fact that she cried every 5 minutes wasnt too convincing, but even so she wasn't hateable. I never respected her until she attempted many times to resurrect the god. However in the last episode when she fights Chikane, i found it unrealistic for her to be able to even handle a sword.. or to even carry it.
Chikane was likeable. She is probably the deepest female character in any anime i have seen. I was positive she was being controlled from the events in episode 8, but i was completely mislead. Who would guess she'd go to the extent of raping Himeko in order to make her hate her? The only flaw i found about her was as to why she fell in love with Himeko. She has bad taste in women. I think she deserves better.
Souma was also likeable, although as to why he fell in love with Himeko.. why does everyone fall in love with Himeko? He was a fairly realistic character, although it would have been nice to learn more about his past.. or more about all of the character's pasts. We get a flashback once or twice about Souma, giving you the general idea, but it never explained the fullest. Same with Himeko and Chikane. We know that Himeko was abused when she was younger.. but as to why? Plus we know beans as to where Chikane came from or any events that happened in her past besides how she met her maid.
Overall this anime was pleasant, and it did strike some emotions from me in the later episodes. I was more worried about the lesbian overtones but it never got so extreme that it was complete onscreen yuri sex (thank god). Another bonus was the fact there wasn't as much fanservice as I assumed. You never ever get complete onscreen nudity. Although i was happy about this, many guys wont.
Anyways, if you are a yuri-fanatic, or someone who is looking for something different, Kannazuki No Miko may just be your ticket.

| Much praise has been said for this anime, especially from guys, since this is afterall, a lesbian romance anime. What I heard was that beyond the horny concept of women kissing women, this was a great yuri anime, and a great romance anime. The result? Well, it seems apparent to me that biasness for "women kissing women" have gotten the best of those reviewers. Kannaduki no Miko is a pretty solid and decent anime for about nine episodes that gradually gets better, but repetition in the final episodes sell this anime short.
The story revolves around three people; Souma, Chikane, and Himeko. Souma and Chikane are often referred to as the prince and princess of the school, while Himeko was a klutz liked by no one. However, Chikane and Souma drew much interest for Himeko for whatever reason. Chikane even took Himeko in after her dormitory was demolished by an attack by the Orochi, and Souma dated her a couple times.
Though what all three of them share is the importance they hold towards the future of the earth. An evil organization of terror called the Orochi have come to destroy the earth, and it's up to the Solar and Lunar priestesses, which are Chikane and Himeko, to defeat them by reviving the Ame no Murakamo. For much of the anime, the two have been unsuccessful at finishing the ritual, leaving the Orochi to cause carnage on earth, but it's Souma, who's actually supposed to be a part of the Orochi circle, that protects the world from their chaos.
The story is extremely shallow because after what I've explained above, it doesn't develop until the final episode, causing the anime to rely solely on its love relationship between Chikane and Himeko to push it forward. Being new to yuri romances, this was a pretty unique experience for me. Yuri relationships certainly don't operate the same way as straight ones do, so this was a treat. We often see Chikane pondering to herself about Himeko, and vice versa, while the two are enjoying life with each other, where they're often seen fixing up lunches, drinking tea, etc. Though the romance sequences are only decent, for there's way too much "enjoying each other's company" content, and little actual "romance".
It goes from decent to down right horrible in the closing episodes. In fact, the final episodes might be the only time during the run of this anime when the two exchanged affections for each other. While this is labelled a romance anime, much of the romance stalls itself on build up, and doesn't explode until the last episodes. The final episodes are an extreme overload of Chikane and Himeko telling each other how they love one another. They literally say the same thing over and over again, except in different contexts and in different words, which are basically the same.
Kannaduki no Miko is also a mecha anime, and even though it's secondary to the main yuri relationship being advertised in this anime, it might actually be the most quality part of it. The fight scenes are pretty good and entertaining. At first it follows a "monster of the week" formula, but that quickly changes later on. Sadly, the mecha and fighting start losing screen time to the yuri relationship as Kannaduki no Miko shifts out of its "monster of the week" format.
If it weren't for the fact that Chikane and Himeko are two cute girls who like bathing together at night, my opinion would have obviously been much harsher. The execution of said relationship went from watchable, to abysmal. Hell, some of the side relationships, such as Souma and Himeko, and even Souma and his brother Tsubasa, were more bearable to watch. Everything outside of Chikane and Himeko's relationship is solid. Unfortunately, that same relationship is practically 70% of Kannaduki no Miko. It's not really something I'd recommend, unless you get horny easily, but there's always hentai for that kind of stuff. Oh yeah, the opening and ending themes, both sang by KOTOKO, are addicting to listen to, as well as Suppuration -core-, which was an insert song during a dramatic battle.

| Well...this was a disappointment.
I heard so many great reviews about the story being amazing, the characters being cute (okay they were), the animation being brilliant! But I don’t think so. This anime did have a very good potential to be amazing. I am a yuri/yaoi fanGIRL, yes girl, but I still love yuri, and I don’t dislike it because of the yurinness in it, I mean the romance between the 2 characters was adorable and quite entertaining.
Animation: Not 2004 quality, Yami No Matsuei was 2004 quality (very good animation), this anime does not even compare to the animation from even the years of 1999, and I mean Utena was better quality. The colours were terribly picked, sure the background was drawn beautifully, but the creativity of the uniforms, outfits was really dull, and the shading done on the hair of the characters were worse than Card captor Sakura by CLAMP, the skin shading was well-done but again, this is a 22004 anime, it should have been way better. Also, I noticed in the anime, the characters like Himeko w/ long hair, when she was standing, her hair reached below her knee, when she on the motorbike, her hair was no where lower than her back, same with Chikane Miya. The hands and feet were also often drawn deformed, though there’s a lot of hands in the anime that have to be drawn, I can’t expect every single hand to be perfect.
Sound: The OP song was amazing, so was the ending theme song, I don’t have any complaints for those, and I even put them in my ipod and listen to it on the way to class. They were both awesome, the instruments and I love Kotoko’s songs (I think that’s her name). Although the BG music was somewhat depressing, it seamed really old, as if the anime took place during the 1500ths, and obviously the anime took place in modern day times (I mean they have digital cameras and motor bikes), yeah I didn’t appreciate the BG music.
Story: This anime have so much potential, so man characters, and as I said for the Gakeun Heaven review, it takes place in a high school, so many chances for things to happen. And not only that, it involves magic spells, priestesses, and other arabra-cadrabra whatnot. I don’t think they explained very well in the story I was left really confused at the beginning and it was really weak, it had a strong ending, leaving a memorable impression but the beginning was extremely boring. The basic body of the story was easy to understand, but the inner stuff was extremely complex, and I don’t think they were able to distribute everything in the story efficiently, they left out a lot of background of characters, leaving us the viewer to wonder why the hell the story is the way it is, and that is extremely annoying. I might as well read a cheap fanfic off of fanfic.net.
Characters: Terribly told about, you see pictures of Himeko getting her hair cut off but what really happened, why doesn’t she let Chikane let her touch her hair? Why is Chikane so cold, what caused the manga artist to fail, the singer to fail, what war did the chained guy witness? So many damn questions, this anime did the character’s BG extremely poorly; they only concentrated on the 2 main characters, leaving the others (who really do have a big role in the anime as well) out. They make no sense, how did Souma know Himeko?
But I will say the character’s art was done amazing, the shading on their close, hair might have been done really poorly, but something about the characters looks makes you remember, I would have never remembered character’s name usually, unless they left an impression.
Overall, it was/wasn’t a decent anime, I’m undecided. It had a good story, leaving me to imagine the rest though, some people like to ponder, me I hate to. I will say the other reviews on how much they loved this anime soured me on my opinion on what the world thinks of yuri anime, I find it ridiculous for the boys who only liked it because there were lesbians, yet I still love both Yuri and Yaoi. If you are looking for sex, this is defiantly NOT! NOT! NOT! the anime for you. People who like to ponder, like to come up with their own conclusions, I defiantly recommend, others who find it hard to like animes I do not recommend this.

| First of all, I'd like to say that those who see this as yuri have completely missed the point of the anime. Completely and utterly. Rather, I think anyone who sees anything as being homosexual has missed the point. This anime is more about crossing lines. Rather, proving that there isn't a line. If you don't like yuri, you should still watch it, but try to be open to the character's feelings and reasons for their actions. If you like yuri, good for you, but if you just enjoy because you think it justifies lesbianism, you've lost the greatest part of this creation.
Anyways, onto the real review.
Despite many faults, this anime remains in your mind for many days afterward. All in all, this is definitely an anime you should watch and hopefully enjoy. It was touching enough for me, a complete lazy bum... or rather, THE completely lazy bum, to register just so I could write a review about this.
The art and animation ran along amazingly and the characters could not have been drawn more beautifully. Many memorable scenes were made and amazingly, didn't make me wince when they flashed back to a picture as so many other animes have done. One could not ask for more in an anime.
The soundtrack to this anime fit perfectly with each scene without many faults. It matched the mood and images very well. The voice actors were wonderfully chosen and perfectly matched the character personalities as they should.
Despite everything else, this is where the anime starts to get lacking a bit. The last five or so episodes are beautifully done, full of emotion, as are the first few. However, the three or so episodes in between are lacking in that at the point, the plot doesn't entrance you. Though it could have been done far better, it was adequate. The essence of the story has a distinct fault in it, the gundam-like story. It seemed to come out of nowhere and has no apparent contribution to the story. Not to mention the battle scenes were completely boring to say the least and not innovative to be polite about it. I also had an objection to the last minute of the ending before the credits. A cut off a minute before the credits would have left a dramatic effect to dwell upon the audience and a stronger impact when viewing the scene after the credits. Other than these few faults, it was nicely done.
Himeko was adequate as a main character and innovative enough that she was enjoyable and likeable, though not revolutionary in her kind. As a person though, she did seem rather realistic and was enough for a decent story.
However, the disappointment was Oogami Souma, the male pretty boy. As a person in reality, he would be charming. However, when people are put into anime, a single minded person must be exaggerated enough to understand the full scope of his feelings. Little progress was made to try to understand this character and during the entire series he only had one thing on his mind, to protect Himeko. Though admirable, such characters have been played a thousand times over in various other shows and had become too much of a cliche to appreciate. Though useful in the love triangle, he could have been developed far deeper. Oogami is the reason that I refuse to rate the Character a 10.
The one character made this entire anime for me was Chikane. She is one of the deepest characters I have ever seen in any of the animes I've ever watched. Her emotional depth relies upon the fact that everything she does and everything she is seems to be completely realistic. All her shame, her emotions, they're all something we as humans can relate to. Her solitude and how slowly and, yet, so steadily she was being twisted despite her intentions to suppress her sinful feelings.
If nothing else, watch this for Chikane's sake.
After watching this anime once through, I immediately attempted to watch it again, for the first time through seemed a bit hazy to me. The second time through, you notice so many small and emotional things that seemed negligable the first time and creates a far more enjoyable experience.
Though I have no right to attempt to force you to appreciate it, I believe that to some of you, this anime will be very valuable. So at least try watching it all the way through once, then trying to evaluate its value yourself.

| I think that this was a great concept for an anime, moderately well executed. Its worth watching once just cause its kinda interesting, but for me to enjoy it I kinda had to prep myself by getting into the proper mindframe so I could accept whats going on (in other words i dont deal with the whole "gay/lesbian" concept too well)
AHEM
ANIMATION: I think this animation had some very strong points and a few week points as well as shades of grey. First off Im giving +1 because IMO all the charaters were drawn exceptionally well as far as their different outfits and hair and uniquness of faces. The only possible problem I have is that when characters have long hair in animes, the animators tend to screw up the physics of how long hair reacts when people move about or when its windy out etc. This partiicular anime did a pretty decent job of not makeing it look to unrealistic, but there were a few instances where the animators got lazy and ignored laws of physics, but overall not to shabby. I gave +1 for the mechs animation and overall appearances and origionality. However Id have to give -1 for the sub par attack animations, but Ill have to explain why later. Id have to give another -1 for the lack of apparent design for the inside of the mechs and for the ambiant wavelike background that accompanied the mech cocpit view.
+1 for the Opening theme animation, because it was really well done (IMO)
SOUND: IMO, the sound kicked ass. The opening and ending themes were techno(-ish?) and the main background music was primarily stringed instraments and piano. I thought that the music overall fit the anime perfectly.
STORY: The story wasn't to complex... or was it. Well lets see here, theres our "save the world" plot, and we got our "love triangle" plot, then theres a "man vs self" plot, and the whole girl on girl issue. So yeah, all that makes for a pretty interesting story.
To sum up the main story theres thease two girls who kinda like eachother in that way, but Girl A is too reserved to do anything about it and Girl B isnt sure what she is fealing is right. well anyway they turn out to be a key element in saveing the world from being destroyed. But then theres this guy who likes girl B. Then they find out that that guy is going to be their enemy, or will he?
Sumation: the plot is good.
CHARACTER:I liked all of the characters in this anime, both the good and bad guys, both the main and static characters. Each charater mannaged to keep their ownpersonality (for the most part, there was one person whos personality changed to help move the plot along.)
VALUE: Although I thought it was a good story and pretty well done, I dont think i will watch this thing again any time soon, just because I cant deal with the Yuri content (sorry for being a wuss guys ^_^!'')
ENJOYMENT: Well whats to say, I enjoyed all of it except of course what I alredy mentioned.
MY UNPROFESSIONAL OPINION:
If I had been the director of this anime, it would have sucked... okok but if I was say the supervising editor for this anime, here are some things I would have changed: First, I would have made the Mech fights longer. Practically the only reason they were in the show is because they needed something to fill the "world destruction" plot. Pretty much every fight ended in under 4 minutes. They probably could have made the show last a full 24-26 episodes if they had made the Mech fights longer and more intense. also, this would have drawn in a wider range of viewers. Secondly, in accordance with my prior mentioning that the story should have been longer, I would have slowed down the story to make room for more character developement. When I watched this show, I fealt that almost everything was rushed. There were almost no re-occuring developements/themes, almost every second of the show covered new ground. I dont know about everyone else, but it takes a while for Ideas to sink in for me and I think that if the show would have taken it slower and added more history between the main charaters, the show would be a lot more popular than it is now, (granted that it is a pretty great show for only 12 episodes) Thirdly, (this dosent matter too much i suppose) I would change the mech design, mostly the cocpit and functionality aspects. Dont get me wrong, the mechs were all unique and cool in their own way, but they kinda gave off a power rangers vibue that I really didnt go for.
Thankyou for reading the whole thing, those of you who did.

| After the first couple of episodes, I had serious doubts about this anime. I dunno, for some reason the entire concept of the Orochi and the Priestesses seemed sooo stupid and oldschool, like... 'where have I seen this before?' kind of deja vu. So I guess the plot line is the first thing I had some misgivings about. The other is a couple of the characters. Usually, when I don't like one of the main characters in an anime, I don't really like the anime. In this case, I didn't like Chikane at all... and yet Himeko seems to be totally fascinated with her. So I couldn't really understand the relationship between the two of them, and that confused me somewhat, especially near the ending...
However, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the aspects of the anime. I really like the opening and closing themes by KOTOKO, Re-sublimity and Agony. They were really awesome. I didn't like the cheesy names that some of the mecha 'attacks' were called (rippling solar shot or something lame?), but the mecha fights were somewhat interesting to watch. I actually liked some of the supporting characters better than the 2 main characters- Himeko and Chikane. Tsubasa, Souma and the Ogami's, and Chikane's maid were all pretty interesting characters. Anyways, there was a bunch of twists and turns in the end that made watching the anime worthwhile, although I'd have to say that I did hate the ending. Unfortunately. Overall- good anime tho!

| kannazuki no miko is a yuri show and since i love yuri i decided to watch this.to my surprise i like this show alot and love the relationship between himiko and chikane.the one thing that i really hat in this great yuri series was the mecha i found it to be out of place and could have been done without.
animation- the animation is very crisp nice and had great design on all the characters especially himeko and chikane who looked really good.the only bad thing in this anime that was drawn and animated badly weren the stupid mechas.
sound- well i must praise the soundtrack very much ,i mean kotoko did the oppening and the ending and god did they sound good. i especially love the ending theme agony by kotoko i love that song and it fit the anime very well in all ways .himiko and chikane had very nice and soft feminine voices witch fit there characters so well.
story- well the story is basically a yuri version of gundam but way better.himiko and chikane are the lunar and solar priesstess and they have to fight against the orochi who are the bad guys .the secondary plot is the mega yuri side which is filled with hugs, hiolding hands, and kissing of our two leading ladies himiko and chikane.
character-well the characters that i loved the most and felt the most for were himiko and chikane and i support there relatonship and they make such a cute couple.himiko is more shy and clumsy but is very nice and caring but thionks she is useless.while chikane on the other hand is strong, beutiful and respected by all. now for the leading male character souma i hated him he was in the way of the love between himiko and chikane for a great part of the series.the bad guys were crazy and a odd bunch .they were a manga artist, biker, pop star, cat girl nurse, pyschotic purple haired girl, and the leader.
enjoymeny- if you like juicy yuri series watch this you will drool and love it as i did. the only bad thing about it wa sthe mecha but the fights between the mecha were short and hardly noticed.

| The first episode of Kannazuki no Miko is one of the more unbelievable things in anime world. People's reactions can be divided to roughly three groups: first group stopped watching after 5 minutes; second group shaked their head after the episode thinking what kind of crap they make these days; the third had their jaw dislocated, brain melted and continued with following episodes.
I'm a member of the third group. Story elements are brought forward with little explanation and the reactions of the characters feel unreal. However there were two girls kissing in one stage and hoping to see more of this, I continued with the series. You may guess that my expectations for the content weren't too high, so the series had all the changes in the world to surprise me.
With some part Kannazuki no Miko actually did surprise me positively. I'm not talking about the story: it's core of ancient battle agains evil is only a stupid excuse to have girls wear priestress' robes and have some mecha's fighting. It's definately not the mecha fights either. KnM may be one of the worst mecha shows ever: the hero crushes easily almost everyone coming his way and the fights are boringly short and unimaginitive. Most of the characters are not worth remembering either: the enemies are such a silly bunch you can't take them seriously (what do you say about idol singer, chain-wielding lolicon, young catgirl nurse, nun etc.). I was rather amazed they bothered to use a minute to show their motivation of being evil sometime in the latter half. The male lead is much too standard to be interesting. They try to make him somewhat dualistic but he's constant "I will protect her" and his love conquering every enemy isn't that inspiring. Most of the other characters seem more plot elements than anything real. But there is one shining exception:
Chikane. A goddess. It's been a long time since I actually got a crush for a fictional character but Chikane's presence was simply overwhelming. She's a noble, beautiful, aristrocratic girl admired by everyone in school. There's probably nothing she couldn't do with grace. Surprisingly she's good friends with Himeko, a clumsy, good-hearted girl with bright nature and low self-esteem. She's Chikane's only true friend, who treats her like a person, not an idol. Also Chikane is deeply in love with her and it's no platonic love. But as usual she's forced to supress this feeling for the fear of scaring Himeko away. As the happenings in the series start to roll their friendship is put to a test by the male lead Sohma who is also in love with Himeko.
Now I didn't like Himeko much. She's too clumsy, whiny and braindead to really like her. But because she's the target for Chikane's passion I had very little difficulties to accept her. Because Chikane is goddess. It seems every move she makes, every word she says is laden with beauty, wisdom, compassion and love. But as strong as she is she still can't confess her feelings to Himeko until it's too late. Seeing her pain as Sohma gets to Himeko's heart and her desperate attempts to tell herself that it's enough to be friends with Himeko, her appearance yearning for love, now that was really impressive. The story takes her to some extreme situations but strangely enough, much like Himeko I never doubted she didn't have a good reason for whatever she did. Maybe the best example of her power is that during a couple of tight situation her choice of transport is horseback riding. If anyone else had done that I'd burst out of laughter but because it was Chikane, I only thought: "Damn, she looks good on that horse."
Okay, what else? Animation looks good, Himeko is cute and Chikane is beautiful with her regal appearance and flowing hair. The stupid mecha fights are animated well but it doesn't help make them any better. Music is very good too. Kotoko's songs with their fast beat and tight singing fit the series well as does the beautiful BGM. Plus points for Chikane's voice actor for delivering those lines with a proper voice.
Well, Kannazuki no Miko is a one woman's show. As a series it's a joke at best but because someone like Chikane is involved there's no way I could hate it. She single-handedly lifts the show from a swamp of absurdity. I immensily enjoyed her and Himeko's love story and not only because it was woman-on-woman but for the hidden, flaming passion bursting out of the scene.

| Kannazuki no Miko or Priestesses of a Godless Moon was everything you could want in a show, and a whole lot of it. This is a point of charm, and also just a rehash of the same thing with new characters.
The script of this show was written by Hanada Jukki, who also wrote the scenario to Mahoromatic's second season (and if anyone remembers the unreal, totally strange way that one ended, this one has a nostalgic resemblence to that)
The show looks good (obviously, it was fairly recent, and with CG anything can look good) especially when the characters are at heightened emotional episodes. The animation seems to shineout whenever something very melodramatic is going on. It's obvious that the drama in the show is more important than the action sequences, because to me the fight scenes were extremely un-epic, and seemed to be more filler in most cases. (the later episodes being a slight exception)
As far as sound goes, KOTOKO's (also the artist who did the openings of Onegai Twins and Onegai Teacher) Re-Sublimity was one of the best intro's I've ever seen. I watched the intro every single time, just to hear the amazing synth and passion of the song.. it seemed to go with every single frame of the opening perfectly. Agony (also by KOTOKO) was a fitting outro, though no where near as impacting as the intro.
As clichè as it is, the story in KnM takes a couple very surprising turns, and finally blows you away with such a dramatic ending, it's worth it.
The first episode introduces you to all the major players in the show, and throws them head first into secret meetings, childhood friendships, popularity tiers at school, all the way up to schoolboys piloting giant mecha's and screaming out the names of their patented home-made attacks...topping it all off with girl-girl love scenes?... I'm sold.
For the first 6 episodes, you're watching one show... you see the development of the friendship of Chikane and Himeko, you meet the Orochi (the demons that are supposed to destroy the world) and learn of the plight of the girls...they are the Priestesses of the Moon and Sun that are supposed to save the earth. You also meet Souma Oogami, who is the seeming greatest wildcard in the show...working involuntarily for the Orochi, but fighting to protect Himeko.
As the mysterys close on one wildcard...another one emerges... by the end of the seventh episode, this becomes a totally different show (in a good way) and then plot twists aplenty, every episode from then on just increases in cliffhangers until it climaxes with a pretty strange, but fullfiling ending.
Himeko Kurusagawa is your very typical self-concious protagonist female. She has low self esteem, but doesn't seem shy...she's willing to open herself up to a person she cares about, but can't do a single thing for herself. Love starved, and helpless, Himeko is the object of affection for the other two main characters.
Souma Oogami is the childhood best friend of Himeko, who is finally discovering his feelings for her... around the same time he starts realizing this, he's posessed by his inner demonself (the Orochi) and attempts to kill Himeko, only to stop himself at the last minute... a conflicted person who is bound and determined to protect the ones he loves, no matter what.
Chikane Himemiya - (Voiced by Ayako Awasumi, who has done countless legendary anime personalities), is easily the most dynamic and interesting character. On the outside she appears to be a Veritable 'miss-perfect', but she is highly conflicted by a void she has been missing from her life... the void is filled one day by the appearence of Himeko, and the nearly immediate connection these two made. Over the course of the show, Chikane's character will undergo more evolutions, changes, and hardships than anyone else, making her the most compelling of the 3 main characters.
Most of the other characters in the show have little or no serious importance, this show is essentially about these 3 and how they interact with one another. Chikane herself, is the sole reason KnM doesn't suffer from a harsher Character score.
The show's 12 episode length made it easy to watch through the first time very quickly, and even easier to watch through a second time. (being good enough to watch a show through a second time says something for its value, but the fact it's short but sweet doesn't hurt one bit.)
The epitome of clichè, and so extreme in its dramatic elements it's almost too much at alot of points. I like to be moved, but in a lot of instances KnM tries too hard, and it's noticable... the show screams 'it's been done' at every turn, but in the end, I didn't mind a single bit, and I doubt you will either.

| The only Yuri anime I will admit watching, and i really really like it. The story has me perplexed sometimes, but the level of drama at the end, which is very clearly done, really got me hooked until the very end. Yuri and mechs...a strange combo but it works surprisindly.
What really got me hooked on KnM? The artwork for one. Himeko and Chikane, IMO, prob two of the most beautiful anime girls every drawn. So soft and subtle, not overly moe, not overly artistic and sweeping (like CLAMP). The two adorn my cell phone wallpaper =) Second, tied with the art, is the music. Esp the OP and ED, two of KOTOKO's best songs, period. The end, Agony, prob one of my fav anime songs ever. IF you care to decipher the lyrics by ear or thru animelyrics, the lyrics really mesh well with the plot as well.
This series is definitely worth a watch, for the reasond described above. I might actually buy this series licensed @_@

| Kannaduki no Miko is a yuri anime. And I had read so much about it - "The best yuri ever", "Such complex emotions!".... it goes on and on. And like almost any anime praised in this fashion - it hardly deserves any of this praise. I do not know how this good this is as a yuri or how good this is compared to other yuri, but as an anime it is one of the most headache inducing melodramatic series I've ever seen.
There are lesbian priestesses who are supposed to protect the world from seven villians. Does'nt take a genius to guess at whom this anime is aimed. We also have a stereotypical male who though has bad origins is fighting on the side of good. The lead heroine has a tendency to cry every 5 minutes - she would even defeat Aoi in a crying competition (and thats saying something.) Worst of all, she cries at absolutely every occasion possible. She has to be the dumbest person on the planet to be choosen to save the world. Everything moves at a vapid pace as far as the plot is concerned - the girl keeps crying at everything what happens, there is a triangle since the lead-girl is involved in a lesbian and a straight relationship. There was only one part of the anime which was worth watching - when the second girl tries to come out with her feelings. Those three episodes (5,6,7) were the only part which kept me going. And then the series goes in a direction which had me swearing on why I downloaded this putrid piece of crap.
None of the characters are good. Souma, the lead guy just enters his 1980's styled mecha to fight when the villians come out. Speaking of the villains - they are the wierdest assortment of characters I've ever come across. One wants to be a J-Idol, another draws manga skecthes, yet another goes "n~yaa n~yaa" and dances around with a syringe in a cat-suit. Want more? One villian is trying to woo the lead to be his GF! If this was a parody, it might have worked - but in an anime with this type of setting it had my head shaking with disbelief. The only interesting character was Chikane - till epsiode 7 she was developed in awesome manner. I really liked her feelings and how she tries to express them. Her frustation was shown in a befitting way. Then....
The last five epsiodes had me first swearing on why the writers were screwing around with an already screwed up plot. Then it reached a state that I found the emotions of the characters funny (they were supposed to make me feel sad but I couldnt care less.) By the end I became fed up and had to fast-forward the 5 minutes crying scenes between the two girls who instead of saving the world were crying in each other arms (and that too on the moon). As for the hero? How could he stand a chance in a relationship between two lunar lesbian priestesses? So he goes of to oblivion.
Like I said - I have not seen any yuri. And with this junk - I do not plan too even if someone offer me a million bucks. This might set a yuri-fan on fire. As for others give this a chance if you like your plot to be defined by dumb lesbian priestesses who keep crying like idiots. Avoid this headache... unless you are a masochist.
Side note: I've read that this series is based on Conrad's Heart of Darkness. I was fortunate enough to read that work. And if Conrad's descendents found that this series is basedon his work, I'm afraid that the writers of Kannaduki no Miko will get sued for libel.

| I decided to review Kannaduki no Miko because it is such a great series.
After having read Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, I found that this series was built using that book. If anyone has studied Heart of Darkness in detail, it is a book in which one can see similarities to Freudian philosophy. I'll describe this quickly so that you can apply it to the anime and see what the series really means.
The "ego" is your ability to act according to your conscience. If something is wrong, you will resist it using your ego. It also represses the "id", which is basically your innate sexual, base human desires. You will see the "ego" mentioned by Oogami somewhere near episode 8. If you look at Chikane's internal fighting over how she loves Kurusugawa as the battle between her "ego" and "id", the anime is given a lot more meaning.
Also, you can see the mecha as the embodiment of the "id". Notice when they come out. When passions are inflamed, they jump in. One of the themes of this series is using the "id" to facilitate desires, but having the "id" take over to the point that those desires are in the end forgotten. I won't reveal how this turns out with the characters though, you'll have to watch the series.
Anyway, the main purpose of this review was to counteract those who were saying that the series was "completely random" or something. There is much more to it.
On top of all that philosophy, there is an awesome love story. I didn't care one bit that Kurusugawa and Chikane hit it off. It was every bit as emotional as a regular love story.
Lastly, even if you aren't interested in philosophy (I myself am indifferent to it), this might get you into it just a little bit.

| I don't even know why I like this series. It's just another "we have to save the world with giant robots" and anime staples such as catgirls, bishonen and panty shots. I should hate this series, and yet I love it! Kannazuki no Miko was first described to me as "lesbians with giant robots" and I was immediately compelled to see the first episode and I just never stopped watching.
The animation itself has it's ups and downs. It's sharp, hard lines turn me off a little but the detail and exquisite flow of the animation appeals to me. There are a few reused scenes, but nothing overly replayed and the backgrounds are lush and gorgeous.
Sound gets a huge nod from me. The BGM has a very subtle but distinct air to it and some good single pieces as well. The OP and ED, both sung by Kotoko, are extremely addictive, well-written, and fit in perfectly with the series and the seiyuu! Oh man! I can't stop raving about the voice work. Not the guy's though, the girls! Ayako Kawasumi who more than less voices cute girl roles, took an awesome turn for the better is the refined, obsessive Chikane, especially in the last 4 episodes where she really got into it! Noriko Shitaya also gets a nod for being adorable but not annoyingly so as Himeko, and Ai Nonaka gets one giant "thank you" from me for voicing the catgirl nurse Orochi, Nekoko, whom I absolutely loved every scene of hers, despite her limited screentime.
Storywise, I wasn't expecting anything overreaching and the anime failed to deliver for the longest time. The first half is pretty much everything you already see coming. It's only at the end of Ep. 8 when Chikane does the unthinkable, that the real story inside the "save the world from evil" one comes into play and it's what kept me watching on the edge of my seat for the rest of the series.
The characters are all very interesting, especially Chikane who goes through a wide array of personal suffering throughout the series, you almost feel bad for her until Episode 8, and then... well, you don't feel bad for her anymore after that. The Himeko/Chikane relationship especially was very complex and at times there was no way to tell if it would work or not. Souma was annoying and extrememly over-the-top in the first few episodes so I grew a quick dislike for him. But I loved the Orochis! All are blantant anime stereotypes (the bishonen, the cool but evil girl, the musclehead, the idol, the quiet girl with glasses, and the hyperactive kid) and the best part is that all they ever did was blow things up and bicker amongst themselves! It seems really stupid, I know, but wow was it entertaining!
As an anime, this is a keeper. It's more complex than it first appears but the bulk of it's plot is "save the world" redundancy even though they barely focus on it until near the end. It's always just a side thing. It has a lot of good rewatcablitly and some memorable character performances, so it's worth at least one look, but I'd just get the whole thing for keeps.
Overall, Kannazuki no Miko was a cliche-laden but emotionally satisfying roller coaster ride complete with mecha but an excellent example on how to make what it really is, a shoujo-ai anime, look really really good!

| Kannazuki no miko, or Kannaduki no miko is one of the finest anime that I have seen in a long time. If you like love stories, a mech or two here and there, and of course yuri, you're in for an amazing anime.
Note: this review is strictly opinion, and you should probably read others' opinions as well. Everyone has different tastes! Enjoy! ^_^
