| Well basically this manga is great, the story is very good. the art is nice, the characters are great so overall it is very good.
That being said let's see. this manga is about a cute little boy called Yagami Light. Light wants to change the world, And the thing is, he CAN because he has a book, wich pretty much kills everyone he writes about, in every given time, place and in every way he wants.
Ligt decides to punish all the criminals, in order to create a crime free world. That murdering tons of criminals is a crime in itself, Light does not see that. He thinks that he is coming close to what people call a GOD.
well that is basically the story, Light wants to kill all the bad guys, becomming a bad guy himself, and a detective called L, wants to catch him.
However not all is what it seems, and the two main characters have an insanely high IQ, so prepare for an insane cat and mouse game, that is one of the most entertaining ever created.

| This was a very impressive piece of work. Very original concept and all in all well executed. I do have my gripes about it, however. After a certain point in the story the plot begins to drag on and become a little tedious and predictable, which ceased to propel me to the next chapters as before. This was especially the case during the Yotsuba arc except the conclusion and also the Near arc except the conclusion parts.
The denouement of Death Note kept me on the edge of my seat , with my heart pacing, and although I was incredibly disappointed by how it was ended, it was a fitting end and has philosophical value.
Death Note has one major fault and that would be the cast. Misa is perhaps the most pathetic character ever created and is completely useless, but I suppose she was needed. It just seemed like it was too easy at times... Also Takada is also pretty easily manipulated.
The main thing about Death Note is not to ever expect any character development whatsoever. Light has his ideals and sticks with then he never once reevaluates what he is doing. He justifies his convictions and that is that, all that remains is ridding himself of the opposition.
*SUBTLE SPOILERS*
I would have to say that I was on Light's side and admired his devoted integrity to what he believed was right. He was vindicated in his reasoning and it was easy for me to take his side.
On the other hand we have L and his successors, who I found completely repulsive. It was a game to them, where capturing Kira is the goal and whoever does it first is the winner. They had no other motivation than this. Thus, I found it very unfulfilling, that these guys with no sense of justice whatsoever should even be attempting to pursuit Kira. In fact it angered me that these guys would do this and then claim it as an act of justice, thats just hypocritical. In reality they don't even know the meaning of the word and on several occasions contradicted themselves. Thus, I would choose Light's misconstrued sense of justice over L's anyday.
*SUBTLE SPOILERS END*
But in the end I'd have to say that the most developed character was Matsuda as he seemed to be the only one that was always struggling with the question of whether Kira was right or wrong. And the way he acted in the end was superb and incredibly realistic. Everyone else was more or less narrow-minded in the way they thought. Either "kira is right" or "kira is wrong."
In summation it was an enjoyable manga that in short intervals was a chore to read but very satisfying in the end. I definitely recommend it.

| At first is a really good manga. Addictive and entertained. But after some volumes (specially 8 or so) starts getting bored. And the end is the worst ~.~ and i think is the manga with more letter than i have read.

| Personally, I thought Death Note was a stroke of genius. The intial plot gripped me, and kept me interested, even in light of the fact that there is little to no action. The story, revolving around Yagami Raito and his quest to refine the world to his idea of a perfect society by using his Death Note, while avoiding capture by the world's greatest detective, L, is one of the most refreshing stories i've had the pleasure of reading. The character relationships develop nicely within the first arc, while the story proceeds at a nice pace that won't confuse or lose anyone most of the time. The plot can get complicated at times, but only if you rush through the reading.

| Well first of to say I thought this was an Overall excellent Manga. You get a new feel for what a story is like when you see things from the villians side. It was a new and refreshing feeling which added to my enjoyment in reading this.
If you're looking for a Manga filled with loads of action then I wouldn't recommend that you read this manga. A number of the chapters can drag on for a bit, and most of them are contain lots of dialouge. It might take a while to read, but you might find that its worth it.
I found this story to be quite unique, and the fact that he weapon was a Notebook intruiged me. Yagami Raito(Light as its said in some translations), our man character, is the one who recieved the notebook and is a genius. The fact that Death Note has numerous rules makes it even more fascinating to discover how he will use the notebook. He continues to discover new uses of the Note throughout the manga which kept me hooked to read more and more.
Now the main enemy of Yagami Raito is L who is said to be the worlds greatest detective. To make matters even worse L seemed to be on par with Raito when it came to wits. They continously found ways to analyze their opponent, and try to find solutions in order to overcome them. Reading about their battle proved to be quite interesting.
To conclude I thought this was an excellent manga. I believe anyone who enjoys manga period should at least try this out. It's a very interesting battle between two genuis', maybe even one of the best i've ever read about. This one is a keeper.

| This is not a happy-go-lucky manga at all, and this is most likely the reason I like it so much. Granted, this is not your typical manga in many areas and that may turn some people away, but once you give it a chance and read it, you will not be able to put it down and you will want to collect the entire series.

| Death Note starts off as a mystery manga and a clash between two ideals. Yagami Light, our main character, is an intelligent person who finds a Deathnote Book that fell into the human realm from the Shinigami realm. However, instead of putting it to personal use, he decides he wants to change the world where fear imposes order onto the world. He adopts the name Kira and soon various sects around the world begin to worship this young man's ideology. However, to others, his act is mere terrorism. Another intelligent person, L, is given the task to identify Kira. Can Yagami manage to impose his world order and still evade and get rid of L? Deathnote is an intense chessgame where many lives are on the line.
This entire manga is told from the perspective of our cast of characters who live in Japan. We have Japan's police department (of which Yagami is part of to "capture" himself), the FBI and L, Shinigamis, and Yagami as being the different camps. The story is very intricate from the beginning and it takes quite a few reads to totally understand the progression. This manga of cat and mouse is quite intense at times and Yagami often finds himself cornered. It is awesome to read how he manages to escape each situation through his intelligent and thought out plans.
The characters in Deathnote aren't that impressive. This isn't really a manga about character development or growth. Yagami is pretty much devoted to his ideals, he doesn't really care about individual human life. L is also pretty much only interested in capturing Kira, mostly for self-interest rather than some sense of justice. The police department is just a vehicle for Yagami's use, the Shinigamis are also there to add some sort of intricate side the Yagami's plans since for the majority of the manga only Yagami knows of their existence. We also have other useless side characters such as Misa... who makes thing a bit more intricate and harder to solve for L.
Either way, it is exciting to see Yagami and L battle it out. I think that the whole chess game of cat and mouse never loses its intensity from the beginning. Even in the second arc, the capturing game remains intense, although it is more action oriented with more police infiltration and more deaths.
Deathnote does a good job in successfully presenting a good mystery and a good game of dodge and retaliate. I felt that conclusion was quite satisfactory and acceptable for the long battle between L and Yagami. Deathnote includes a whole set of rules of which Yagami has to play with and L has to figure out - even the reader needs to use some brains to figure out what is going on. Definitely recommended, lots of reader involvement.

| I thought DEATHNOTE was a very good manga overall. (one of the best I've read!) The artistry is top-notch throughout the manga. (of course... Takeshi Obata's work!) The storyline draws you in and leaves you wanting more every time! The best way to describe this particular manga is a mysterious type-manga interwoven with supernatural happenings and complicated characters. I highly recommend this to all Otaku's and occasional manga-readers!

| A marvelous manga.
Graet story, great design.
Overwhelming at most parts, a liitle burdensome a some parts and a pretty demanding manga.
But in the bottom line, it's a great genius manga.
RECOMMENDED.
