| Cute, funny feelgood anime. Not the kind I usually watch. But this one I watched. The way Kippei and Yuzuyu formed a relationship was very well done, at times quite funny. I liked the brother too. I personally liked the voices. Theres is some pace, and some things going on, but it is generally just life and forming bonds. It is actually carried out interestingly enough, with humour. What I didn't like was Kippei's romance. I sometimes downright doubted the romance. The friends of the girl seemed more interested in the relationship than any of the parties. Kippei is sometimes even whiny and reluctant. But the rest if fine to good.

| Let's just say that the animation was quite good but fall short of excellent, however, there is some good points though, the hair of yuzuyu changes daily or even three times a day, i applaud the effort of the writer.
The sound was overall okay but the voice actress playing as yuzuyu might be abit off. But it is still impressive for a child voice actress, we should give credit for that !. The music (BGM) chosen was perfect and it came up in the right time during the anime, accentuating the atmosphere and get audiences into the anime. It got really good OP and Ending theme too, both heart warming and very very related to the story.=D.
The story was quite normal, a ordinary little girl came to stay with a ordinary teenage, but yet something so normal but so special could develop, and that is why this anime is special. It is also the only Family-Romance genres anime that combine together so perfectly. The ending was ok, but i hope more stuff could happen and everyone happy. There is certainly room for a second season, on account that yuzuyu's voice actress didn't grow into a beauitful young lady by now.. haiz..
The Characters were quite normal(but that's why this anime is special) and had no super power or whatever. Yuzuyu was really cute and if u notice, her dressing style was usually different, i want to dress up my daughter in the future too ! Each character also had their own personality explained throughly and their own problems. The most notable part is the bond which was formed between yuzuyu and the protagonist, making more like father and daughter than cousins. It is very realistic, i wonder if they hire a professional for reference about child's behaviour....
The value thoroughly impressed me, this is the ONLY anime that have less than 0.001% Hentai ! It promotes healthy relationship between family and girlfriend, something youngster nowadays could learn. It also make me want to have childrenss =D(guess it was the japanese government's propaganda to solve the population problem). Everytime i watch this anime it makes me feel invigorated and i feel i have the strength to fight for my dream(a happy family). I strongly recommand this anime for childrens(to understand how their parents feels), teenagers(soon-to-be-parents and they need a guide on relationship and kinship), adults (to understand more about their childrens).
Ok, now the last is enjoyment, after reading what i wrote above, i think the answer is obvious... GO WATCH IT NOW! This anime have something special about it that cannot be described in mere words...

| A very subtle and low-profile anime, if I couldn't mince words. There's nothing extraordinary about this anime, but nothing horrible you can say about it either. It's something you'll just have to enjoy slowly, kind of like taking a walk and enjoying the scenery. From what I've heard, the person who did the anime is not the same person who drew the manga, which kind of disappointed me, because the manga was drawn so well! Please read on for full reviews!

| Aishiteruze Baby is the best feel good/slice of life series that I have seen. It is about a teenage boy named Kippei who is asked to take care of his five year old relative, Yuzuyu. The premise is original, and the series is carried out in a believable and enjoyable manner.
The best part about this series is that because the characters and situations are believable, I really connected with them and was therefore completley drawn in to all the little things that happened to them be they good or bad. Watching Kippei get better and better at raising Yuzuyu, seeing how Yuzuyu learned to trust Kippie unconditionaly and seeing the bond of parent and child form between them was a touching and beautiful thing.
Don't expect this series to move quickly or to have much action, it is not that kind of show. It instead draws upon the vast amount and range of human emotions, and shows the characters bond and mature as they experience them together.
Aishiteruze Baby is a wonderful feel good series, that while slow paced, is nevertheless entertaining and heartwarming throughout. If you have had your fill of Naruto and DBZ for a while, give this a try. You won't be dissapointed.

| Where do i start... since i have read the manga, Aishiteruze Baby already, I will be comparing it with the manga a lot throughout this review. Thus, making my rating and review a bit bias.
Firstly, the animation. The animation is quite old, and not exactly very good, which tones down the quality of an anime with such a good storyline. Well, I Definitely Liked the Art in the Manga which was very Clear & Detailed, & Very Beautiful. So WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ANIMATION?! Well, this is the most obvious flaw of the anime, but let's move on to other aspects...
Well, about the music and sounds and seiyuus, I Liked the Opening & Ending theme. The opening theme had a very peaceful melody, just like a lullaby with a sweet melody. The ending theme is a good song, which ends each episode quite well, though having no other opinions about it, it's a nice song to listen to anyway.
Now About the Seiyuus, At first when i heard Yuzuyu's voice, I was a bit ...shocked... Probably because i haven't heard a kid's voice in a while, & i have never heard a kid talking in japanese before. Though it was a bit freaky that a girl's voice sounded so "rough" or "coarse"... I'm not sure whether it was a problem with the quality of the sound, or a problem with the seiyuu. Yes, I was a bit freaked out at first, but i got used to it and am able to enjoy the rest of the anime.
Another voice that i was not used to at first is Kokoro's voice. Her voice sounded a bit low, deep and harsh for a girl. I thought she needed a more feminine voice. Well, looking at Kokoro's Character, Tough & Strong on the outside, but sensitive inside, i guess the voice fits her, but i definitely think a slightly more feminine tone should be used...(O_O)
Other than that, the music, background music, & seiyuus were pretty much all right.
Once again, Aishiteruze Baby retains its Original Storyline, and moving on a very slow pace. But i regretted reading the manga before watching the anime, because it spoilt the anime for me, & things were very cliche, whereas if i hadn't read the manga, there would still be some really Surprising Twists! But oh well, StiLL, despite the poor animation, & slightly weird crying voices of the seiyuus, Aishiteruze BabY was StILL a Nice, Pleasant, Heartwarming Anime. It does not bring you to tears like Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Full Moon wo Sagashite or AIR TV, but rather cuddles you in a nice, warm, fluffy blanket, giving you warmth and a peaceful, heartwarming feeling, making you go "aawwwwww.... SoOoOoOoO SWEET!!!" throughout each episode of the anime. =)
Well...this anime has mm... what do you call it... the comedy, is kinda... "shojo" like... this Shojo comedy is really VERY Shojo, and there are times when i find myself going "uhhhh..... lol???" with my eyebrows in the shape of mountains... *get what i mean?*... i think that Girls would probably laugh, but yeah, i don't expect guys to enjoy the shojo comedy in this anime...
Now, the Characters...The characters are GrEAT. The characters grow on you & developed a WHOLE LOT. When i had finished watching Aishiteruze Baby, I went back to the FIRST Episode to take screenshots. I saw how immature & irresponsible Kippei was, and comparing to the Kippei when the anime ended, It's Like I never noticed he had CHANGED SOOO MUCH?! But HE DID! Slowly, Bit by Bit. The Same was with Yuzuyu-chan & the Other Characters. There are also a number of characters who "Look" & "Act" strong on the outside, but are actually very sensitive, and kind people in the inside. & we see their sensitive and kind side as they tell their stories that have led them to put on such a "mask" or "shell"...
And after that, either Yuzuyu or Kippei use their some sort of magic power, and convince/comfort/calm down those characters, & Then That's how you Get Wrapped up in the Warm, Fluffy Blanket with that Cheerful, HeartWarming Feeling... Awwwww.... =)
This anime is very Relatable to real life as it talks a lot about those who have lost their parents when they were young or those families who have Problems Communicating & understanding each other, & it also talks a lot about HOW IMPORTANT it is to have a Support when you're just a kid, and what would happen if you grew up without People supporting you. A STRONG Point of this Anime!!! =)
Oh Yeah, & after watching this anime, i realised that Kids DO HAVE VERY ExTREMELY Sensitive Emotions & CAN Think to Such an Extent that's brings AWE to even adults. I never knew that children possessed such strong emotions... x) But Aishiteruze Baby proved me wrong.
Now, i shall compare it with the manga, the anime didn't show the extra characters and the conflicts/problems that came with them that were in the manga. so some character development was missing, & the story in the anime didn't exactly complete itself, and it seems to leave a plot and storyline for a second season. But somehow, i get a nagging feeling that Aishiteruze Baby won't be continued. So It's a bit sad that the missing characters, and missing plotlines, and missing character development and extra stories couldn't be added in. =(
Though i have to say that Aishiteruze Baby has some fillers and moved in a very slow pace, i didn't mind them and the slow pace was very nice and peaceful in a way.
The anime ended in a satisfying way... But for the person who finished the manga before watching the anime, i just can't help wanting a second season to PUT BACK ALL those Missing Stuff & END it ProPERLY! =(
After aLL, IT didn't seem like it was about to end there... There COULD STILL be a SECOND SEASON!!! & I Definitely Wouldn't mind Watching it!!! =)
EITHER WAY, AISHITERUZE BABY is a GREAT ANIME! Not the kind that will make you Emotional & Cry Buckets, but the Kind that makes you Happy & Cheers You Up with the Heart Warming Feelings that naturally comes as you watch this anime... =)
NOTE: If you HATE Kids, people with "masks" or different personalities when they're with people and when they're by themselves, shojo/emotional animes, slow-paced animes, then i don't recommend this anime...

This one is one of my favourites, not for its animation, or character development, or things like that, but for the story development.
Aishiteruze Baby sort of wraps you up in a warm fluffy blanket... but when you snuggle in to enjoy it, you find that that blanket has slong ugly thorns hidden within its warmth.

| Aishiteruze Baby is a good anime with an amazing story line, but all the others fail in their own category or at least average at best. The reason I watched this anime was because my cousin suggested to me. I don't doubt watching this anime, but I think the anime could do better.
Animations look like they came from the 1990's and just doesn't match with today's animes. The character look kinda weird and everything was just dull.
This anime had some of the worst voices ever. Yuzuyu (A 5 year old girl) is really annyoing with her voice and Kippei doesn't sound like he should be. The OP and ED were meh. There was barely and background music and there were barely any sound effects. The lowest point of the anime.
A very dramatic story which teaches the meaning of life, love, and taking care of someone else. It has many good moments in the anime. The ending was kinda plain and left you off with a cliff hanger, but that's ok. I don't really want to watch this anime again.
There's is a whole bunch of character develpoment. Kippei starts off being a guy who doesn't care much about younger children, but then he changes into a dad after taking care of Yuzuyu. Yuzuyu is kinda annoying and stubborn sometimes, but most children are. Kippei is just a little clumsy so I didn't like him much. The characters look a bit odd and that makes you think the characters aren't real at all.
A average anime at best, but this won't be a keeper. Worth watching through at least once. Unless you think the first few episodes are boring then just stay away from it.

| A truly touching anime. Slice-of-life heartwarming series which really illustrates the fragility and innocence of the bond between a child and his/her caretaker. Nice, slow paced show, with animation which isnt outstanding but does the job very well, especially with the watercolor OP/ED. Technical mediocrity aside, it was the story of this show which blew me away. It was very original, and very easy to relate to. The relationship progression between Kippei and all of the involved characters is unpredictible, but leaves you sighing in content with each resolution.
Theres not much I can say that has not been mentioned in other reviews yet. I am a big fan of the manga, which is how I was introduced to this show. This isnt a genre of show I typically am a fan of, because of the very very slow pacing, but the amount of times you will be going "awwwwww...." more than make up for the doldrum story progression speed. It has a decent amount of comedy to occasionally break the mood, but the easily-empathized-with drama is king. Highly recommended =).

| I have watched alot of series so far, though I haven't bothered to review them. I enjoyed this series so much that I felt I had to come on here and review.
I am a fan of the school/romance series, but I watch and enjoy all the genres. The addition of a little girl into the typical romance really makes this a unique anime. The romance takes a backseat to the little girl and her cousin. This may have made the romance part of it that much better. You only get little bits of it here and then, and it leaves you really wanting more. Overall a highly enjoyable, feel good anime.

| Aishiteruze Baby is a heart-warming, slice-of-life story that is very enjoyable to watch. It has many touching moments. It also has a cast of realistic, likeable characters.
The story revolves around a theme I'm all too familiar with, and this has touched me personally and I derived great joy in watching the progress of the story.
The story pacing is just right and easily digested, and the number of episodes adequately covers the length of the story thus ensuring that the story is neither rushed nor too stretched out.
It also has very nice opening and closing themes. Both of which beautifully captured the overall mood of the story.
I must say I thoroughly enjoyed myself watching this series.
Don't mind the weird character designs. I found them a little weird and "manga-ish" too but I got used to it within two episodes and it was just a pleasure to watch. The ladies were beautiful, once you've gotten used to the character designs.

| (This review compares and contrasts the anime and manga, in addition to reviewing them. So it might be a bit long. Actually it's very long. X_X But I hope it can be helpful for somebody out there.)
PROs : A very cute and fun show. But even with the sweet tone and theme of hope that surrounds this series, some sensitive subjects and emotions come up. (abandonment, child abuse, and loneliness) and are intense but gracefully handled to the point of being quite touching. This show does a good job portaying what it's like to be a little girl and what it's like to raise one, the various side stories are entertaining and add to the experience and originality rather than detract.
Cons : Animation is outdated. It's slice-of-life, so it may be too slow for some. A couple of eps don't measure up to the rest.

| This anime had a unique twist that I enjoyed a lot. Taking care of a young child is always an amusing factor in any show or drama, and this one aimed to please. The animation wasn't bad, and the same can be said for the sound. The storyline was pretty good... until you get to the end.. you'll see what I mean. I'm having conflicts with what I should give for the character rating, because I think that the main character's persona was awesome, while other characters like Kokoro were... ehh... But still, it deserves to be watched by people with kind hearts, and there are definitely notes of humor sprinkled around everywhere. All in all, Aishteru ze Baby was a pretty good anime.

| Going into this show, I was wondering to myself why a even bothered to watch it. It about a teenager and his 5-year old cousin. I hate kids in movies, TV and anime. They are annoying by being to cutesy or spew pop culture garbage. I wasn't always this way, until I saw Terminator 2. Needless to say I was rooting for the machines in that movie. Kid in pop culture piss me off.
However, after watching this show, I found hope. Yes, the cynic in me was turned, even for only a few hours. This basic premise is a 5 year-old girl, Yuzuyu, is abandoned by her mom after the death of her husband. She is taken in by her mother's sister family. Of course, no one on her side wants to watch the tyke, so they pick the eldest brother, Kippei, to be her guardian. Hilarity ensues, well not quite.
At first, I thought that there would be some perverted love triangle going on between, Yuzuyu, Kippei, and Kokoro, a girl that secretly likes Kippei. There is sort of a triangle, but it is adult, well written and believable. It is much more mature than typical shoujo anime like Ai Yori Aoshi. The show plays Yuzuyu as kind of a wild card in the relationships between Kippei and others, even Kokoro. The progress between, Kippei and Kokoro is really well done. Their feelings toward each other grow slowly, and are inexorably affected by the friends, lovers, and little Yuzuyu.
Of course, I think that story between Kippei and Kokoro is good and all, however the main theme is how Kippei handles Yuzuyu. It is exceptionally well executed. In the beginning life is murky as Kippei, who has never has taken care of a kid before, handles her. He knows nothing of her plight and added misfortune of Yuzuyu being unable to express herself well, she's five after all. They explore her states of fears, anxieties and happiness. As he gets a handle on his new life, it affects others who he interacts. You get the feeling that the writers know about kids and how to bring them alive. Yuzuyu loves Kippei as a kid should, despite he inexperience.
I liked enjoyed the music and sound were good and fit the moods well. I enjoyed the songs that Yuzuyu sang as I have heard few Japanese kids songs. The OP was good for j-pop, and the EP was average. The overall animation reminded me of Tenshi na Konamaiki, A Cheeky Angel, with Kokoro bearing a striking resemblance to Megumi. The lines were drawn cleanly, the animation soft and pastel. It also contained story lines branching over two episodes, which I love. I hate it when they box a long story into 22 minutes.
There were, of course a few pitfalls. The stories all had sappy endings, the Yuzuyu and the kid at kindergarten where just a little too mature for being just five, everyone has the hots for Kippei, and few episodes with Yuzuyu's cousin making an entrance felt like filler, although is was not too bad as filler goes.
Who should watch it? Well, it might be a little too much drama for kids under 10. Over that age, I think that anyone should be old enough to watch, especially young girls/women. There is no echii, but in some of the first few episodes, Kippei does some questionable things. I whole heartedly recommend this anime. The only stickler is that you will have to watch it in Japanese (subbed) as it hasn't yet been brought across the pond. I hope it will, it has some of the best anime I have seen in a year.

| Aishteruze Baby is an anime which embodies all the elements of a fun-filled heart warming comedy ideally suited for a family audience. The premise is a simple one - Five year old Yuzuyu is abandoned by her mom (due to her emotional imbalance), Kippei the high school playboy is given the responsibility of raising her. Can he manage the task? It is heart warming, and puts a big smile on your face. The anime itself has a threadbare story - most of the episodes based on incidents revolving around Yuzuyu. But this is as far as it goes, due to a large flaw - the people who made this anime forgot to put a plot in it.

| Some components of the anime Aishiteruze Baby are just at a top-notch level, but at the same time, some are barely meeting the modern anime standards. I've had a mixed feeling when I was watching this anime because while the story was gripping and very original, the animation and voice acting wasn't there to completely absorb and captivate me to actually make me care about the characters.
Animation: While the drawing 'might' have received a rating of 9 or above about ten years ago, the animation just doesn't compare to the modern standards. There's no use of 3D, the characters are drawn weird and almost unrecognizable at some angles, and the overall drawing was just flat. This is definitely a weak point of the anime.
Sound: This is where the anime gets brutally butchered. Absolutely the weakest point. The anime had 'THE' worst voice acting out of all the animes I have seen so far and definitely discourages the viewers from enjoying the anime.
Story: A frivolous guy changes when he was forced take care of a 5 years old girl. Sounds pretty cliche but it works out quite well in the anime. The slowly developing relationship between the two characters is definitely what kept me watching this anime.
Chracter: There is definitely a character development here, especially the main character Kippei. Other than that, other characters are flat and nothing exciting goes on between other characters.
Value: Basically, the moral of this story is men are beasts but when tamed, they become human. I do not mean this literally but in terms of men's innate desire to associate with as many as girls they can. Again, quite a cliche theme.
Enjoyment: If you don't mind the crappy drawing and abominable voice acting, watch this anime. I enjoyed it, (turning the volume wayyyyy down) and so will you if you are interested in romance.

| This is more like a mix of several childhood/teenage splice of life anime. There's nothing spectacular that stands out other than probably Yuzuyu's cute moments. There a high level of drama at some points but nothing new since most teenagers face the same issue in real life. However these dramatic moments are solved rather quickly and isn't dwelled on for too long. Still, you might have some sympathy because they do their best to draw tears from you viewers.
The animation itself looks a bit messy, and a bit scary. The uber-sized eye factor sort of threw me off at first but once you get used to it, you start watching it normally.
Sound is pretty decent I thought since it revolves mostly around little Yuzu. Fits for a kindergartener.
The story, again, sort of goes back and forth a little, from taking care of a 5-year old to solving a depressed teen's suicide attempt. It's a splice-of-life so we can all relate somehow. And also, you must realize the level of responsibility needed to take care of a child on your own with little or no assistance, especially as a teenager. Yes, Kippei sacrificed his usual playing around with girls for Yuzu, and eventually settled on one girl. So hopefully, this sort of teaches a lesson... if not, then excuse me. Howver, the ending was questionable because it didn't really satisfy me.
Not much of a wide array of characters as some come and go. But the focus is on Yuzu and Kippei, with Kokoro having more of a role later on when the romance arises. Quite a development in the end, as you'll see. However, I did get overly annoyed with Yuzuyu's mother, as she repeatedly cried and reminded us, the viewers, that she'll get stronger and get her back soon.
Overall, this is a decent series. It teaches a few lessons and reminds you of what teenage life might be like. I liked this because of the cute little girl factor. I think it was a good thing I ran into watching this because it sort of softened me up when it comes to children.

| A unique anime that boasts one of the cutest characters in anime, with a splash of teenage romance. There’s a feeling of familiarity when watching this anime, but they did just enough to make this a breath of fresh air.
What made this anime was the characters, this can be shown by the fact that if you were asked to sum up what happened in Aishiteru ze Baby, you would struggle to say something exciting. What made it fun to watch were the characters, there’s the cool one, the funny ones, the serious ones, the bad ones and the lonely ones, not forgetting the “baby”, Yuzuyu herself. There were moments where Yuzuyu was slightly annoying, but those moments were brief, after all she is a child. What didn’t happen was the script writers trying to make her sound too grown up with tons of wisdom spilling out of her mouth all the time.
Another aspect that deeply impressed me was the sound, this anime was almost filled up to the neck with music and sound effects which made it more of a delight to watch, only if all animes are like this. They didn’t have many pieces of music to work with, but they were used cleverly. They did not seem repetitive at all, in fact the love theme was a wonderful piece that really did bring out the tears in certain emotional scenes.
Among the many positives this series brought, there are the negatives. Times existed where you felt like some episodes were fillers, mostly where the focus shift, temporarily, to a side or totally new character. This distraction from the main storyline made me feel as if they could have easily fitted it into a 13 episodes series.
Convincingly made, something that’s not to everyone’s taste, if you don't like the characters, you won't like this anime. For the parents, this one would be for you, if not, there’s heaps of satisfaction to be gained from the love story. Part of the beauty of this series is that it gets interesting again just before you get too bored, if you can endure the dullness.

| My first impression of this show was rather off, as episode 1 gives the impression that this is going to be some pedophilic show with a romance between a little girl and teenager.
Why do I even bother saying this?
Because, it's actually a pretty good anime, which was fairly surprising considering the description and picture.
It's not very deep and the characters are barely developed, but I liked this anime, and I easily watched contentedly through to the end.

| Heartwarming? No. Cute? Don't think so. Bland? Absolutely. After dragging myself through twenty episodes, only about six of those willingly, I couldn't bear to continue. To most properly describe the experience, I take a quote from VivaFruit's "Ajimu Kaigan Monogatari" review: 'If you find yourself awake at around 3 or 4 AM, give Ajimu a try. It'll put you down in no time.' If one replaces "Ajimu" with "Aishiteru," then they obtain an adequate overview of the this boring, utterly dull series.
From the getgo, the animation was a real turnoff. Tacky at best for a 2004 production, I was quite unimpressed. Perhaps attempting a new style of art, Aishiteru certainly fails, as characters are drawn awkwardly, plainly, and void of any real spirit. Pitted against bland, poorly designed backgrounds, there simply was no atmosphere at all. While I'm on the topic, Aishiteru displays some of the poorest actual animation of any recent production: it felt, sometimes, as if I were trying to read a manga which constrained me to 20 minutes a chapter for 3 minutes worth of content.
Coupled with perhaps the most horrendous Seiyuu I have yet to experience, the aesthetic value of Aishiteru all but vanishes. Mediocre opening and ending themes stand at either end of a poorly composed soundtrack, which, when attempting to aid the Seiyuu, resulted in the prompt muting of my speakers. If anything about the sound was designed to exact an ounce of sympathy from my being, it most assuredly did not. I swear if I hear Yuzu cry one more I'm going to put a fist through the screen.
The base of Aishiteru's story would have fit much more comfortably in a four episode OVA. Basically, it revolves around a teenage boy named Kippei whose aunt happens to abandon her child, Yuzu, until "she is ready to take care of her." Sound touching? Well, it is, for all of about five minutes. We soon discover, over the course of twenty episodes, that the plot really has no direction. With a voice rivaling the grinding of nails on a chalkboard, Yuzu's incessant crying, whining, bickering, and complaining encompasses the entirety of the series, with a pitiful attempt at a romance between Kippei and a classmate Kokoro shoved inbetween. As I mentioned before, I'm usually a sucker for romance, but after being introduced around episode twelve, I lost all concern by twenty. Decent in theory, Aishiteru just might have worked had it cut out all the junk and focused more appropriately on building relationships, rather than Yuzu making friends with a kid whom vanishes an episode or two later for the remainder of the series.
Ironically, the aspect of Aishiteru which I enjoyed the least obtains the highest score. As previously stated, the utter lack of palpable character growth cripples Aishiteru early on. Perhaps the only idea worthy of any much mention regarding the characters is this: they were designed with good intentions. If handled more properly, Aishiteru might just have been redeemed by a deep, multi-facet caste of characters; but alas, this is not so. In fact, had they reworked Yuzu to not be so damn annoying I think I might have held a lot more interest.
To be fair, for a short while Aishiteru is enjoyable. It does have its moments which are slightly heartwarming, so it hasn't completely fallen into the gutter. Nevertheless, not on my life would I recommend this crap to anyone; unless, of course, as VivaFruit said so brilliantly, you suffer from insomnia, in which case Aishiteru is just what the doctor ordered.
Highly discouraged.

| the animation is on the poor side, but the characters doesn't require much more
the music is quite cheap, though the OP and ED are done better
the story doesn't proceed in a consistent or climatic manner, which can be clearly represented by the unusual ending. Mainly focusing on kippei and yuzuyu's relationship, and and in the second half with the inclusion of Kokoro, it adds smaller mini-like stories of persons or family members associated with them, not significantly adding to a main conflict. Neither are the mini-like stories more thoroughly fleshed out for the audience, which would've given them more presence than they seeminly had. These tangents and the unfocused conflict of the main story can unease viewers from accepting AzB as good as it should be.
the characters remedy the problem of the story, which is its relavance. Kippei's, Yuzu's, and later Kokoro's characters are all consistently fleshed out among the many diverse, though somewhat predictable, conflicts. None of them really adds to the main conflict between yuzu and lack-of-mother, which is often brought up throughout the story, which can be confusing. Instead, what the characters attempt to do is affirm the conflict and move on, a theme mostly represented in kippei and his family as a whole. Some characters play the role of the 'giver' who provides the conflict and/or triggers it. Others are 'accepters' who must deal with the conflict. Many of these g/a characters pop up and then are never seen of again, yet their relationships adds to the 'kippei' theme. With in the frame of this theme, the many side stories' conflicts are incorporated as support in a variety of situations. Although the theme leaves the side stories and the main story arc seeminly untied (though some are ultimately resolved of a more obvious conflict, there never seems to be a clear cut end to the presense of 'those' support characters in question) the open-ended conclusion is presented with the idea that the theme is understood, proposing that although characters are not given traditionally happily-ever after endings, they will affirm their conflict and move on, persevering despite the results. This does not really remedy the story's flaws, but offers another way to interpret stories.
It is within all the characters that the emotions play the biggest role and are given the most attention. The focus of many smaller dillemas throughout is the concern for the feelings of Yuzu or others. Much time is given (or killed) to the produces to slowly zoom in on or pan across characters' almost unmoving faces as they try to understand each others feelings, which undoubtly will bore some viewers. (AzB surprised me by making these scenes so abundant and central to the relationships involved. Maybe because i don't see/read much shojo) However, it becomes central to the characters' daily routine that emotional obstacles are meant to be tackled and understood, supporting the 'kippei' theme.
flaws abound in AzB. The voice acting will be bland to some, but it is subtle, tactful, requiring detailed listening. The dialogue itsel is simple, so where the real drama takes place is within the hearts and minds of the characters. The child voice seiyu doesn't do as great a job as hollywood blockbuster's equals, but it was surprising enough they actually used a little kid instead of an adult. Flash backs take up time (or kill it), and some characters dissolution and indecision will annoy certain viewers(though if you can understand their situations, it's not hard to accept their dispositions) but they don't detract from the heart of the story enough to ruin its charm and attraction. Yuzu is terribly cute child, the cutest kind of cute. the romance is unique but not astoundingly eventful. The conflicts are boring and mundane, but fill ordinary urban domestic life with real boring mundane problems.
